I bought the 2017 XPS 15. It is nice and sleek notebook also expensive. After 9 months passed it did not turn on because of the thermo problem. Then I called the dell costumer service. They helped me very well and fix the notebook.

Great Laptop, near perfect linux campatibility

I picked this laptop up via another retailer since they were running a black friday deal that got me 32GB of ram and a 1TB SSD for about the price of this config with 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD.... but as the other components are the same: * Display - 10+/10 -- The display on this thing is quite simply gorgeous. The only "flaw", if you can call it that, is that powering all those pixels means you get less battery life than you would with the 1080p version. * Trackpad - 9/10 -- The trackpads on Apple laptops are better... but this is the best trackpad I've used on a windows laptop. * Keyboard - 7/10 -- The keyboard is good... but I've typed on better ones, and this is a premium price point. That said, I don't have any trouble typing, and it doesn't feel bad, it just doesn't feel great. * Performance - 10/10 -- Hard to not get top marks for an i7-7700HQ in a productivity minded laptop. The thing is quite snappy... no complaints. * Gaming - 7/10 -- This isn't a gaming laptop, and my primary use of it is to leave the machine in linux with the nVidia card turned off, but it's capable of playing casual stuff at 1080p. This is obviously scored on a curve, because if you're a hardcore gamer you're not even looking at this machine. * Build Quality - 10/10 -- This thing is absolutely gorgeous, and sleek, and feels great to hold. Its also built of aluminum and carbon fiber, and is rock solid. * Battery - 8/10 -- also graded on a curve. I am seeing about 5-6 hours of battery when using the laptop for web/writing code. This is not "great", but it's also above average when compared to machines in this class. I mean sure, an Atom netbook with a dim 720p screen can last for 10 hours with a much smaller battery, but that machine is also (to state the obvious) just not nearly as powerful. Value: 7/10 -- this is a premium build machine, and you are paying a hefty price for that. You can get similar specs for MUCH less in the Inspiron 5000 gaming and 7000 gaming lines. Those machines are very capable in terms of "function", but they also skimp a bit on the "form". My son has an Inspiron 5000 gaming laptop that he loves, but it's much bulkier and more plasticy, and generally not as solid -- and it certainly doesn't look as sleek and professional. That said, compared to a 15" Macbook Pro, or an i7 Pixelbook, the value comparisons fare much better. * Issues: none. I have not had any of the issues that I've often seen reported with this laptop. I also have not run much in Windows, so that may be why, but at least for my one laptop, it seems Dell got it put together right. Notes: I got this machine to be my linux workstation, and for that it is delivering and then some. Basically everything just worked out of the box, and a simple howto on turning off the nvidia card (since I don't need it in linux) got me set, although I could have gone for setting up the nvidia driver and either bumblebee or prime setup to switch it on and off as desired. Everything, including the function buttons just worked in xubuntu. One of the smoothest laptop setups I've ever done. (This is also somewhat expected since Dell sells basically this same machine branded as a Precision workstation with linux pre-loaded). The only thing not working in linux is the fingerprint reader... which would be a nice touch (HA!), but hardly something I'm hung up over. I've been using this for about a week doing software development on it, and this laptop has been a joy to use. The screen is just a feast of candy for the eye. It's gorgeous to look at, and after setting up the hiDPI settings, text is just silky.

The computer is a great. It is lightweight and fast. It needs a larger SSD drive, but the price would be ridiculous. The computer works perfectly but Windows 10 Pro is a pain to use. The price on the computer is way too high for what get.

The Dell XPS line always manages to live up to the expectations, and those expectations are high. This model, in particular, provides the user with fast performance, stunning screen resolution, decent battery life (6-8 hours I find), and a very clean and durable design.

The graphics on this are amazing! The equal to that on bigger, bulkier laptops. Geek Squad set up my computer so I have not had any problems what so ever. Initially, I would have given it 4 stars because the keyboard is more compact. However, after a week of using the computer, I have gotten used to the smaller keyboard.

    Power Receiver = BAD Design

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Dell XPS 15 9560 Laptop Power connection (internal to the laptop) has a black receiver “nub” that has broken and fell out of the Laptop. Why did Dell design and build this cheap power receiver “nub” that cannot withstand everyday use? None of my previous Dell Laptops had power insert receiver design.
