      Hello technologyman,

Thank you for your input and review. We are sorry to learn that the screen brightness of your laptop isn't quite meeting expectations. We would love to help as promptly as possible. Windows can adjust the brightness of the display based on how much light is reaching the system's ambient light sensor. This feature is referred to as 'adaptive brightness' and it can be disabled in Windows. Here are some steps to adjust this feature:

      1. In the Search box, type Settings.
      2. Touch or click Settings (Modern application).
      3. Touch or click System.
      4. On the Display screen find the Adjust my screen brightness automatically option.
      5. Touch or click the slider to toggle the option on or off.
      6. Touch or click Apply.
      7. Close the System window.

      Dear Rich,

We want to thank you for taking the time to leave us your review. We sincerely apologize for the trouble you are having with your XPS 9500 locking up. Below I have provided a list of solutions for the freezing issue, along with a link to the full article, should you need further information. We also recommend making sure your BIOS is up to date on your PC. I have given you a link to the Drivers and Downloads page for your computer so you can check for and do applicable updates.

      Resolutions
      1. Run a Computer Diagnostic. To determine if your computer is experiencing a hardware problem, run the Dell Preboot System Assessment (PSA) Diagnostics. For information on how to run Diagnostics, and to determine the issue, refer to Dell Knowledge Base Article: http://dell.to/2iaiujA.
      2. Check Safe Mode for Symptoms. To boot into safe mode, please follow the instructions below:
      a) Start the computer.
      b) Tap 'F8' on the keyboard immediately and every one second until the Dell logo screen disappears. From there you will see the Windows Advanced Options Menu on the screen. (If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, restart the system and try again.)
      c) Select Safe mode with Networking and press Enter.
      d) Log on as the administrator or as a user with administrative access.
      e) Open applications and test the computer in safe mode. If the symptoms exist in safe mode, please continue the troubleshooting steps in this article. If the symptoms do not exist in safe mode, the issue is likely related to a driver or software and you may wish to complete step 3 to see if you are able to resolve the lockups or freezing.
      3. Check for Malware. Malware (Virus, Spyware, etc.) can cause a Windows system to lock up or appear to hang. To check for malware on your system and to ensure that your computer is up to date on security software, visit Dell Knowledge Base Article: http://dell.to/2wWP1zI.

This is the worst laptop investment I've ever made. The first and biggest problem is that the file system foundation is on OneDrive. OneDrive is dependent on the internet. If you have slow internet, you have a slow computer. I was able to uninstall anything related to OneDrive which allowed me to open basic JPEG images. The laptop automatically writes all memory storage through OneDrive. This rendered all my adobe and CAD products useless. I again had to manually write them to the local drives. The trackpad is also a disaster. There are two layers of clicking and it gets them confused all the time. There is the light tap and then the click. Anytime I use the track pad, I end up clicking and dragging everything around and making a mess of anything I'm working with. The fans are also a disaster. Since the laptop is so thin, they must have ditched anything related to cooling the internal components. When I open just an internet browser, the fans come whirling on at max power. The fans blow at max power at all times. The laptop also gets extremely hot. Even in sleep mode, the fans will be blowing at max power and be overheating without you even knowing it. I took this to Best Buy and asked about all these problems and they had nothing to say. They even agreed with uninstalling OneDrive. This is the worst laptop I have ever purchased. If you are a professional designer or engineer, do not buy this laptop.

      Hello Amatossi,

Thank you for your thorough review of your XPS. We are extremely sorry to hear that your laptop has not met all your expectations. Your feedback is incredibly valuable as we build current and future products. Dell has released an Intel Power Management Utility to help with the overheating that you may be experiencing on your computer. For this package to take effect, the system power plan must be set to Balanced under the Additional Power Settings. Also, the Power Mode option that is displayed when you click the battery icon, should be set to Better Performance. This package only takes effect on AC power and not on battery power. The Intel Power Management Utility can be found here - http://dell.to/3tStRgX.

If you still run into issues with your trackpad, this link can assist with more details and troubleshooting steps: http://dell.to/2tqmS02.

I thought I had done my due diligence in researching laptops, when I bought this Dell. First, the Camera is horrible. Very grainy and forget about doing video calls in low light/at night. The image is vey pixelated. Second, after having this laptop for only 8 months, the battery no longer holds a charge and I have to keep it plugged in 24/7. I really wished I had just upgraded my HP X360 Spectre. Also, now that I am working a hybrid remote/onsite schedule, lugging this laptop to the office is no joke. It's heavy. My HP X360 was super lite and portable. Sigh...

I'm going to be honest with you, I'm a Software Developer for Google most of my coworkers use MacBook Pro's etc. I have never used a laptop that I hated so much as I did with this laptop. The screen is the most unacceptable thing in the world it's not 1080p let alone the weird Resolution they say in-between 1440p and 1080p Video playback is immedicable. I used the laptop for a week t'll I said no more and got a Razer Blade Stealth 15 for about the same price. Don't even try to type on this keyboard it's the weirdest layout on a laptop I've ever seen weirder then Chromebooks. The laptop hinge for the screen is absolute garbage when it's open its steady and doesn't shake but when it's supposed to be closed in your bag it opens up risk of damaging the screen. The computer is super slow it doesn't not perform to my standards of what a expensive laptop like this is supposed to feel like. I would stay away I got myself a Razor Blade Stealth 15 and I've been the Happiest man in the world performs great under load and stay's cool and way better looking.
