I previously owned a XPS 15 a long time ago before I switched to a gaming laptop, which died, so I purchased this XPS 17. I wanted something for work that I can game on as well. There's a lot to love about this laptop but it is on the expensive side, that is what you pay for to get the XPS experience. Pros: -Windows Hello -Display -Trackpad -Build Quality -Performance. Cons: -Fingerprint Scanner -10 Key (which most 17" laptops have) but the XPS line doesn't. I haven't had any issues with my laptop, running everything work related, some photoshop and video editing and gaming. I've only tried games from Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for PC so far. Highly recommended if you can get pass the sticker price. Sometimes it goes on sale and the open box are even cheaper.

I had found this open box offering online while in SW Utah. I drove to Boulder, CO and this same deal happened to be at the Boulder Best Buy. I took it as a sign that I was supposed to get this classy laptop for photo editing and video creations. The sales person at the Boulder store was great to deal with unlike some other Best Buy associates I have encountered in the past. I love the touch screen which makes a laptop more efficient to get work done. I do not have any operational complaints so far. The auto power up feature upon opening the monitor up and the facial recognition unlock are huge conveinence features and if the facial recognition does not work in difficult lighting situations for some odd reason, then the finger print reader built into the power button works very good. I watched many review videos on this particular laptop comparing it to the main competitors on the market. I have never been an Apple product user. I typically always 100% of the time have a knee jerk reaction to Apple products every time I think I might finally be ready to jump from the PC environment. This time to purchase was no different. I got the XPS 17 9700 because I love the upgradability of it, the fact that it has a full size SD card reader built in, and it has a huge and bright 17" 4K resolution touch screen for showing off my world class professional photography work in almost a 15" laptop chasis. I love creating videos and post producing photographs on this machine. My unit came with Windows 10 installed and that is taking me a little adjusting to get up to speed with but it s not a lot different than the Windows 7 I had been using before. I have never used a computer platform that totally made sense to me but at least my preferred computer choice is not fruity...lol

This is a dream laptop for graphic designers, photographers, videographers and other content creators. I added another 16GB RAM and another 2 TB SSD to make this a perfect configuration for handling large files. It is rare these days for a laptop to be upgradable, but that is a real plus of the Dell XPS 17. The 4K touch screen is the best there is, and the quality of construction is impeccable. It’s weakest link is its built-in camera, which is only average. The excellent graphics card makes this a good machine for gaming too, even though that is not what it was primarily designed for. I really enjoy the excellent speakers which have a pleasant room-filling sound. One of the greatest strengths of this laptop, however, is its size. For a 17 inch laptop, it is quite svelte.

Still hate Windows but love this Dell XPS 17

This is a quality machine. I had hoped that I would never, ever have to be a Windows victim again. My Chromebook does everything I need it to do except for one program, Camtasia. Alas, the HP laptop I have been using for Camtasia is long past its prime and seriously acting up so Your Humble Reviewer bit the bullet and bought what I hope to be my very last Windows piece of crap. I will hate Windows forever but I love this Dell XPS 17. My wife is the one who cajoled me to get it. I am glad I did. With a 17" screen, it is exactly the same size as my 15.6" Chromebook although it does weigh more. It is lightning fast. The screen is gorgeous. The keyboard is excellent, better than any that I can remember except for my beloved AST 286 from a million years ago. The battery life at full brightness is not exemplary but that is to be expected and should not even be mentioned. Most of all, I am just really impressed at how well it is built. Again, I pray this is the last Windows machine I will ever own. Thanks, Dell!

Powerful laptop that's capable of pretty much anything you can throw at it. The Intel Core i7-10875H & GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q are a marvelous paring that can blaze through any task and even many AAA games at high settings. Heat management is very good. One thing that I've often overlooked in laptops is the sound. In this case, it's not an afterthought. The speakers are very competent and actually enjoyable to listen to! More than just function, the sound has depth and is engaging for a laptop. Display...what can I say, it's flat out gorgeous. Coupled with Dell PremierColor, you can adjust the settings to your preference. Backlight bleed is almost zero and it's the closest I've seen a non-OLED display nearly match an OLED. Physical build is top-notch and probably the most solid laptop you can get, yet still being only 5.5 pounds. Perfect for professionals and occasional gamers, this is the do-it-all powerhouse that will knock your socks off.

Bought this as a replacement for my MacBook Pro since I needed a windows machine for my job. Overall, it’s a great machine with a beautiful screen and easily upgradable if you need to. My only concern is the trackpad at the moment. There’s an inherent wobble to it and when you physically click it push down on it it cracks like it’s catching on something. Other than that the machine is great and the design is really aesthetically pleasing.

I don't know where to begin. Dell as out done themselves on this notebook. The form factor for a 17" is amazing not much bigger than the normal 15" you buy. The CPU fits this mdoel well an the dedicated 2060 Nvidia, WOW! In such a thin and light machine. Don't worry the vapor chamber does a pretty darn good at keeping them cool while under load. The screen brightness color accuracy and sharpness is above any other option I have seen on a notebook. Even over some of the OLED's machines I have had. The carbon fiber is nicely done. It doesn't get anymore eloquent than this. It is NOT a gaming machine but it can handle many games just fine for a nice break between work. The beauty is it is upgrade-able! It has 2 NVME slots and the RAM is upgrade-able. This puzzles me how thin they make this and still make it sorta future proof. Alienware couldn't do this on the m17 r1/r2/r3. They are not as thin and this but they soldered on the ram and the wifi card, sad for gaming computer and this bad boy is upgrade-able. I was about to buy a 16" MBP until this came along. I am glad I waited. Although Final Cut Pro would be nice.... GREAT JOB, Dell!

The build quality is excellent, there is no gaps, creeks or flex in the chassis. The screen quality is amazing and is definitely better than my MacBook Pro 16. The speakers are good and are slightly inferior to MacBook Pro 16. When I got the laptop it keeps crashing whenever I do anything graphics intensive and gets very hot. I tried to use Dell update to update everything to the latest, but it turns out there is a vBIOS update on the Dell website and after updating it fixed my issues. Overall I am very happy with the laptop

    Solid top-line Dell desktop-replacement laptop

In general, Dell's never been my favorite for laptops or desktops. In my eyes, they've always been bulky stocky boxy affairs where you could poke your eye out looking at them. But that was not the case here, to my utter surprise and delight. This is not to say that this is a slim sleek laptop - as a 17" behemoth, that would be impossible - but it IS the slimmest 17" I've ever had, and still very stylish, with aesthetics that mimic a Macbook Air if it let itself go during the winter. But let's face it - if you're buying a laptop this big, you probably don't care about the way it looks - you want to know about its innards - the blood that runs through its veins and the heart that pumps it. And this laptop has what you need, and can run what you want it to (and without a lot of bloatware to boot!). I'm not going to run through the specs - you can easily read that in the description. I'm also not going to tell you how the hardware ranks because BestBuy does that too. But what I will tell you is that this sucker can be reformatted without having to search all over for drivers (which is HUGE). This baby will do that reformat in about 15 minutes from power up to Windows setup (super fast compared to our normal Lenovos). And it's really light for its size, so you won't be breaking your bag when you want to use it as an actual laptop during vacations and lan parties (as if anyone does that anymore). In short, solid buy.

You can feel the quality from opening it, to typing that it was build well. Still early in my using it but by far the best screen on a laptop. Very quick boot and so far quick to open and use all applications. One of the more expensive laptop options so all this was anticipated as I did a ton of research before I chose which laptop to purchase. So far not disappointed at all.

This is a top notch computer. If you looking for a solid game or work laptop that can take pretty much whatever you want to throw at it you may have found the answer. Slim and sleek with a beautiful screen and bright clear colors. My work puts a premium on screen real estate. I design ads for publications so being able to see in detail the text and artwork of a full page on the monitor was important and the reason that 4k appeals to me on a laptop. The only problem that I found and eventually became the deal breaker for me was the keyboard layout. The keys are smooth and feel great when typing but the keyboard feels like its spread out to fill in the space left behind for not having a 10 key pad on the right side. Would have been better to just put the 10 key back on the board and keep the spacing more like a laptop. This is only my opinion though.

The xps 17 is an incredible machine! Use in our purpose for photography editing. Using photoshop requires a supply of graphics and power, both of which this rig has straight out of the box. I debated long and hard between the XPS and the MacBook Pro. I am a huge Apple fan. But as the review have said, the XPS is an absolute contender for the MacBook and with the versatility of windows. The unit I bought was an open-box from beat buy. It shipped and arrived 3 days earlier than expected. The XPS and packaging were in perfect condition. I would recommend this product time and time again!

If you’re looking for a laptop computer that is really a desktop computer that you take with you this is it! The 4K UHD touchscreen is the best screen that I’ve ever seen. It would compare favorably or better to the iMac. End it adds touchscreen capability. With the solid-state hard drive and the 10th generation Intel core I 7 processor and 16 GB memory the laptop easily handles normal office and web applications. The Nvidia graphics card handles video and photo editing easily. Almost good enough to be a serious gaming computer. With heavy video intensive applications it does drain down the battery even plugged in. The 130 watch charger is under powered to keep the battery at 100% charge with intense video applications. The sound card provides excellent audio especially with external speakers. I would prefer it had a numeric keyboard but Dell spent the space for speakers instead.

Dell XPS 17 - First Impressions... Meh

Compared to many premium laptops the Dell XPS 17 seems thicker and heavier. That may be due to better build. The top is metal and sturdy enough to minimize screen wobble. Deck is carbon fiber, which at first seems classy, but I wonder how this will wear over time. Perhaps it's my aging fingers, but I have a problem with the height and depth, as the wrist tends to ride the edges of the deck... perhaps to accommodate the large responsive touchpad. Consequently, it feels as if my hands are shifted to the right. As a result, the little finger often hits the up arrow instead of the shift key. Bottom is advertised as metal, but sure feels like plastic. Screen is brilliant and responsive. Less than 24hrs into use, the computer froze on the DELL logo and wouldn't complete boot. Hours later, after troubleshooting, contacting tech support, and explaining that the problem appears to be software related, I was told a tech would have to be sent out to replace the motherboard... in 4 days. Got frustrated, removed the back and replaced the SSD, and while I was at it, increased the ram. Booted like a charm and no further problems. Called Dell and cancelled the whole tech service call. Overall, seems like a lot of money for something I believe can be had at almost half the price.

The product itself *looks* great, and fits the frame (and most non-screen accessories) of a 15-inch model. However, its slim figure comes at the cost of rapid overheating. After a couple of months of moderate use, I began to have various issues with a number of drivers. Eventually, the graphics card sputtered out. It turned out that the motherboard had fried and needed to be replaced by Dell (thankfully, this was covered by warranty). During this period, I had noticed the laptop growing extremely warm, so I purchased a high-quality fan base to keep it raised and cooled. Even so, it still was overheating. After it was repaired and returned to me (presently), I find that the problem persists, and that it is often too hot for prolonged touch just above the keyboard. This can happen while playing a game with average graphic settings on 1080p only after just 30 minutes. Honestly, I have no idea whether this laptop will continue to work for much longer. This was my first Dell laptop, and it will likely be my last.
