I ordered this product nearly 2 weeks ago. I just recieved my package this morning only to open the box and have it be empty. I did order an open box but I expected to still receive the laptop. After speaking to 2 different representatives at best buy they said I will receive an email about what happened in 25 to 76 hours. With zero answers on if they will send out a replacement anytime soon. I am extremely unhappy and extremely frustrated with BestBuy. I will most likely end up just buying it somewhere else once they finally give me my money back.

I despise this laptop and wish I’d never bought it. It’s like using a computer from 30 years ago. It takes minutes to load programs. It’s schizophrenic during start-up when it keeps going through the start-up steps with opening the home page. It get so hot even when closed that you can hear the fan in a different room. It also smells almost like it’s burning. I use my phone as much as possible because this piece of garbage is completely unreliable.

Returned within 1 day of arrival. Apparently some of the dell 4K models have this yellow-ish tint issue (googled dell XPS yellow tint screen issue and turned out a lot of the customers are experiencing the same problem). No matter how you adjust the screen color it just cant' be set as a normal color screen like your phone or your computer. You might get lucky to get the good screen version but what's the point of taking this chance on a $2700 device.

This is a Best Buy exclusive laptop meaning it is spec'd out for Best Buy and Best Buy only. Best Buy nor Dell will not be able to support warranty repairs for this unit as evidenced by my experience with both of them. Best Buy also falsely lists this as having a full manufacturer warranty when purchased open box, which it doesn't.

Hello DeeGommz,
We are sorry to hear that your new laptop was running a little warmer than you would like. Your feedback is incredibly valuable as we build current and future products. Dell has released an Intel Power Management Utility to help with the overheating that you may be experiencing on your computer. For this package to take effect, the system power plan must be set to Balanced under the Additional Power Settings. Also, the Power Mode option that is displayed when you click the battery icon, should be set to Better Performance. This package only takes effect on AC power and not on battery power. The Intel Power Management Utility can be found here - http://dell.to/3tStRgX.
We also recommend that you check for any BIOS and Software updates that are available for your computer on the Dell Product Support Page for your system. Many times downloading and running the latest BIOS and drivers can help with overheating concerns that you experienced.
Best, Wendy C.

I have never had a brand new device not work out of the box before. The screen would not come on no matter how long I attempted to charge the device. Highly disappointing.

Plethora of Problems Has Me Bummed

PROS:
+ Large screen
+Touchpad
+Looks pretty
CONS:
- First time turning it on out of the box, there is a thin, blue vertical line down the right side of the screen. Very annoying. Plugged the computer in to an external monitor, and the issue disappears on the external monitor. I Googled this issue, and seems as if a lot of folks have this issue.
- No USB ports. I knew this when ordering, but figured it could be overcome by simply buying a docking station. WRONG! If you have an external USB drive that you plug into a docking station, the XPS17 will NOT read that drive. (Error message that there is a critical error with the drive.) Yet when I plug the new docking station into my older Lenova gaming computer, and plug the USB drive into the docking station, the drive is readable with no issues. Same with a few other USB peripherals: They work on my old computer, but not on the Dell.
- Locks up constantly when doing simple work. I'm not talking about locking up when surfing the Internet or when gaming; I'm talking locking up when trying to launch ONE MS-Word document.
- Key pad works sporadically. Sometimes it does, other times the keypad doesn't register/recognize when your finger is trying to use the keypad to navigate around the screen,
- Ill-conceived power button placement. Seriously?! Right next to the DELETE key, which I use often?! C'mon, Dell.
-Torture device on front of laptop. (AKA the sharp edge on the front of the compter that makes long-term usage of this computer literally PAINFUL.) This is not a new issue for Dell; consumers have been making these complaints for several iterations of the product, now. Yet, Dell chooses to refuse to acknowledge/address this. It's a simple design fix: just round the corners a bit.
I did a ton of research before buying this computer (directly from Dell). I was torn between the XPS17 and the Alienware gaming computer 17-inch. BUT, many reviewers said the Alienware had horribly loud fan noise, which is a deal breaker for me.
I don't know if I just got a dud, or if these problems are indicative of what to expect. But for the very high price point, I expected better, I'm on the fence whether to return it for a refund, or try my luck with an exchange. Not sure how "lucky" I feel with the exchange option now.
If I do exchange it, and I get a better computer (an XPS 17 with no screen bugs, keypad glitches or performance issues), I will update this review.
