    Strong performance, and great versatibility

As a working student I was looking for an all-in-one device which I could use as a mobile workstation, both for work and for school. I also use it a lot as a tablet for writing notes and doing my homework, it saves a lot of paper, is super easy to correct mistakes, and just a very pleasant experience. This device not only does that, but so much more- the build quality is great, the device is usually very quiet, and it is very slim and light compared to the XPS 15 9560. It does get quite warm sometimes, but not too much. My only gripe is that a 15" screen 2-in-1 is a bit too big and get can a bit uncomfortable, but it's a small price to pay for the great performance. I would however suggest to look at the HP Spectre 13" for anyone looking for a tad smaller device. And for people who are looking to use it mainly as a tablet, perhaps just get an iPad. If you want a powerful all in one, and you do not want to settle for performance, this can be the device for you. The color is gorgeous (black), and it comes with the pen which is usually extra which is great.

I've had this Dell for over 6 months and it has been very dependable. I use it constantly and many times times for long continuous hours. Sometimes it gets hot but it's not too bad. Most of the issues I've had with this laptop has been related to Windows 10. Can't really complain about performance of this Dell.

I'll start with the good. The display is beautiful, the system is powerful and the battery life is pretty fair. I bought this machine for travel and some light gaming on the go. I've payed WoW, Forza Horizons 4, Doom, Minecraft and I plan to install Ark. As long as I don't max the settings and play at 1080p I don't have any issues. They all play smoothly. The fans can get to a decent volume if I'm pushing the settings but I'm fine at low settings and the fans are tolerable. In some cases they don't even stay on the entire time and the system remains cool. I've also installed a number of productivity software, CorelCAD, Blender, Affinity's suite of products and it handles all of them easily. The system really does have quite a bit of power under the hood (it is a 65watt processor) so it's got more umph than the Intel U series that are typically found in 2in1s. The speakers sound good. A little quiet when in tent mode or on your lap, they fire to the bottom so it's easy to block them. The display is stunning, 4k, very bright, very vibrant. Dell has a tool to control the color output, any thing from samsung note 9 vibrant down to pixel 2s dull color profile and everything in between. I typically run it at 5% brightness indoor and find that to be plenty bright. Outdoors it is visible in direct sunlight but only barely but I can't remember the last time I actually needed that when I wasn't checking to see if it was possible. Turn to the side or sit in some shade and you won't have any problems. Battery life is decent. If I'm browsing the web I typically get 7-8hrs, if I'm playing games it's all over the board depending on how hard the system is being pushed and seems to run anywhere from 1hr at max power with no battery settings up to 2.3hrs if I'm playing a non-intensive game with Max battery life settings. I can get 1.7hrs playing WoW at 1080p low settings and the frame rate locked at 30fps. More than sufficient for my on the go gaming needs. When running CorelCAD or Blender I typically see 4-5hrs. Of course my use there is mixed. I'm not typically using those programs for 4 hrs straight. Now for the bad. The trackpad doesn't always work. I've sent the system in for warranty repair once which took 2 weeks. I got the system back and the issue still persists. They are sending a technician to fix the system a second time and we'll see if this fixes it. The issue is the trackpad either simply stops responding to input or goes off on its own and starts moving the mouse and clicking anywhere it feels like. The other bad is the battery warranty. Dell warranties their batteries from the date of manufacturing the battery, not the system, and not the purchase. So by the time this system came to be in my possession the warranty on the battery had already expired. A bummer since I've owned the system for 1 month and it already shows 12% wear. I will likely have to buy a battery for the system before my first year of ownership is up. For comparison Lenovo warranties their batteries under the same warranty as the laptop. So as long as your system is covered your battery is covered. And because of these issues I've also had the opportunity to see Dells support in action. They can be good once you get to the right person, but getting to that person can be a very big hassle. My first call I was bounced 7 times before having to ask for a manager to finally was able to help me. The second call to the tech support went better. However the warranty work was ineffective. They reinstalled the OS despite my documenting having already done that and obviously never tested for the "repair" as the trackpad issue was readily apparent on first booting the system once returned to me. They also managed to damage my system in the warranty process. Bending the bottom cover. So all in all a good laptop with above average specs for the 2in1 category overshadowed by low quality control and not the best support.

      Notasaurus,

We appreciate your feedback on your XPS 2-In-1. We're sorry that it doesn't always perform the way you'd like it to. We'd recommend re-calibrating your touchpad if you continue to have issues:
Some Notebooks and Tablets with Keyboards have added gesture features to the touchpad hardware and drivers. A few of these features are two or three finger scrolling, pinch zoom, circle zoom, rotate and swiping. These new features may be the reason for the erratic cursor movement since most are turned on by default. You can disable or modify the way the features work in the touchpad driver properties. Here are some tips to modify these settings:

      1. In the Search box, type main.cpl.
      2. Touch or click main.cpl in the list of programs.
      3. Touch or click the Dell Touchpad tab.
      4. Touch or click on the picture of the touchpad.
      5. Touch or click Gestures (depending on your computer there may not be a Gestures option).
      6. Change the options as preferred.
      7. Touch or click Save.
      8. Touch or click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Dell Touchpad Utility.
      9. Touch or click OK on the Mouse Properties window.
      10. If the touchpad still does not work after following the preceding steps, refer to Dell Knowledge Base article - http://dell.to/2iaiujA.

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2tqmS02.

We hope that your computer starts to perform better for you soon.

      Best,

My background, I'm a computer hobbyist and gamer/designer. I've built my own desktops but needed a laptop. I'm 8 months into owning this bad boy. Had back problems so needed a beefy laptop to work from my bed. This was the most powerful 2 in1 available and a nice 4k screen so I had to have it. Put in a nice Samsung 970 EVO and she runs nice. Kudos to Dell for putting a full-power cpu in a 2 in 1. Not a low energy tablet processor they pass as "fast" these days. And the new format for the gpu and cpu on the same chip is super neat and i believe this is the first 2 in 1 to utilize it. Could be wrong. But those are the things I need to get me to spend 1500-2000 on a laptop. CONS - Dell bloatware - Case not sturdy enough, flexes and causes trackpad freezing. took me 8 months to figure out that was causing it. - With latest bios the fans STILL go turbo in tent mode - Poor speaker placement on the bottom so you can never hear anything (especially over fan noise if you fold it to tent mode) - Have to throttle the cpu %50 and run in "battery saver" mode to get the advertised battery life. I run plugged in most the time cuz i need the full power so this hasnt affected me much. But I used to go to 2 hour meetings with a full charge just taking notes and it wouldnt make it. Now I can squeeze 6-8 hours on a battery with my power plan adjustments, - had to get motherboard and most internals replaced at 6 months - needed a bigger hard drive 250 is not big enough for todays machines so i plopped in a 1TB -lackluster cooling design. Needs to be elevated to get air in and out - hard wired network adapter (it blows) the laptop version of this 2 in 1 you can actually replace it with an aftermarket one. Just make sure you are running on 5gh band to get the best speeds. PROS Thin design Great display + thin bezel touchscreen is nice windows ink interface for pen use beefy processor + new gpu tandem design can handle latest games for break time shenanigans charges quick (as it should with a 130w adapter holy begeesus) That all I got. Going in tomorrow to ask for a replacement or money back as the trackpad thing is the last straw. I cant work on a bendy computer when i dont use a mouse, just the trackpad. Im looking forawrd to the new generations of pcs being built on this new framework and seeing major improvements to the product. Its getting there. just not there yet. Maybe the non 2 iin 1 xps doesnt have the flexing issue...

      thechad,

We're sorry to hear about the issues that you've been having with your Dell 2-in-1. Have you had a chance to reach out to Dell's Technical Support Team? I think that they can offer you some great insight to some of the issues that you're facing: http://dell.to/2sH7Qlm.

Dell products come with a One Year Limited Warranty that you can find out more about here: http://dell.to/2tNsVOs.

If there are some programs that you'd like to remove that you don't think you will use on your computer you can follow these steps:

Uninstalling or removing software or applications that you do not use or do not need from your PC can help speed up your PC. Applications may include background processes, system services, context menu entries and other things that can slow down your PC.

Uninstall applications you no longer need using Programs and Features (previously called Add/Remove Programs). Unnecessary applications occupy space on your hard disk drive.

      1. Press the Windows logo key + R on the keyboard.
      2. In the Run dialog box, type appwiz.cpl and press the Enter key.
      3. In the list, select a program and click Uninstall.

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2tSulGV.

If you'd like to extend the battery life of your computer, here are some tips:

      Change the Power Plan:

      1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon.
      2. On the options list, click Power Options.
      3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.

      a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver.
      b) If running Cortana then type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results.
Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs.
      c) Turn Battery Saver On or Off.
      d) Additional settings available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links.
      e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage.
      f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further Battery Saver feature.

I picked this up as a clearance open box item. I believe I paid around $840. This machine has been out for a round one year with aspects are still killer and it handles most modern-day workloads like It's hot butter. the display is absolutely beautiful in every sense but mainly in colors and brightness. The ram is not upgradeable but I upgraded the storage to an Intel 660P 1TB M.2 SSD and I noticed a significant bump in loading times and overall performance. If you're lucky enough to find one in decent shape in your neighborhood Best Buy, I would totally recommend grabbing one.

I have had this laptop for 6months now. At first it was overheating, and the fan was loud... But after couple of software updates and bios updates, it auto correct itself. Now am enjoying it and getting 3 to 4 hours on battery life that is with typing and listening to music and browsing the web at the same time.

I am very unhappy with this computer. First of all, it has had a sticky 'O" key from day one which causes me to have to retype almost everything I type. I was told that my only option was to return the laptop and start over with a new computer but I was in a work crunch and couldn't waste that time and so hoped that the key would loosen up. It didn't. My other major complaint is the battery life. After about a month, the battery life dropped to just 2 hours. I travel a lot and so this is very inconvenient. The laptop is now 1 year old and the battery will not hold a charge for more than about a half hour. I am done. I will be buying an HP Spectre today.

I am launching a photography business and felt like I may have no choice but to finally switch to Apple/Mac despite a lifetime of Windows/Android products. Then a magazine put this Dell toe to toe with the MacBook Pro, and scored it even with a little edge to this Dell for speed. The 4k display has been exactly what I needed for photos, and I can run Photoshop, Lightroom, and any other program I need simultaneously! It's been a perfect fit, and avoided an unwanted switch to Apple.

Pros -Can game at 4K with settings turned down -thin light and portable -supports external gpu -fast -great looking screen (very bright) Cons -mine came with a glitch that caused loud fan noise. It was fixed with a bios update. -small amount of storage only 256 gigs. You will have to use an external hard drive -battery only lasts about 4 hours Overall it is a great alternative to the surface book 2. Well worth the money for a student or person who travels often.

Previously owned a DELL Studio XPS 1640. This replacement is a great technology leap over the older DELL laptop. It's lighter weight, faster processor, solid state hard drive, and USB 3.1 port technology. I also like the new feature of being able to change configuration from laptop into a tablet with pen. In addition, the battery has new and improved power management features which allows longer usage without needing to be connected to an AC power adapter.

Great 2 in 1, just enough power to play games, but versatile to the point where i dont use my tablet anymore. Has a beautiful screen, lowered settings to 1080 since theres not a noticeable difference on this size of a screen, but helps with performanceand battery life. Fans can get loud if under load but thats to be expected. Has a premium feel to it. Would recommend for someone that wants a jack of all trades 2 in 1.

I bought this high end Dell for it's speed and reliability. It has been working well. However, it is a very slim computer. It does not have regular size USB ports. I had to go back to BestBuy and buy an adapter for my mouse. I'm guessing that's because Millenials do not use mice. It also does not accommodate my SD card, the SD card slot on this Dell is for a smaller card. I have two other computers that accommodate my SD card and I'm planning to get a new camera anyway. I'm warning you, if you're a Baby Boomer you need to accommodate to this slim, sleek newbie.

I purchased this laptop for photo editing purposes. With it being 100% SRGB and 100% AdobeRGB, it was a no brainer. They only had the touch screen in stock so I just went with it, even though I didn’t want touch screen. Not was I wrong! In Lightroom, without touchscreen, you can only zoom so far. With this touch screen, you can zoom into infinity. Perfecting your photos in post crop.
