When it comes to coffee, there are two kinds of people. Those who want it fast with as little fuss as possible and those who are obsessed with getting the best possible cup.
The DeLonghi Dedica coffee grinder is definitely for the second group. It’s an expensive beast of a machine, far bigger than even most full-sized coffee makers -- never mind the much smaller $25-$30 grinders most people use to grind coffee. Why so big? Well, it’s designed to handle a crowd, grinding up to 14 cups worth in one fell swoop. And it’s a burr grinder. Not some simple blade grinder that reduces whole coffee beans to an uneven rubble, ranging from dust to big chunks. The Dedica gives you an exceedingly uniform grind for the best possible flavor extraction.
OK. Maybe that sounds a bit pretentious but DeLonghi obviously takes coffee seriously. This thing has more control options than the space shuttle – all designed to make sure you get exactly the grind you want – from ultra-fine espresso to the coarse mixture preferred by those who use press pots.
There’s even a blue backlit LCD screen, which is a bit over the top for a coffee grinder. It allows you to see how many cups worth of grounds you want (there is an oddly placed dial on the side to set that) and the strength of the brew (a button next to the LCD screen to set that). The level of grind is set with a sliding lever at the top of the machine. I find this an odd collection of controls that makes grinding coffee – normally accomplished by simply pushing a single button – quite complicated and anything but intuitive.
But once you read the instructions, it all makes sense. And it all works quite well once you’ve figured out what to do.
Oh and just to be sure no option has been left out, DeLonghi has included an adaptor designed to accept the high-pressure grounds receptacle from an espresso machine. It’s hidden away in the base. Pull it out and slide it below the grinding mechanism and the very fine espresso grounds fall directly into the receptacle, ready to be tamped down . Handy for those who need it.
For all other kinds of coffee, DeLonghi has included a small sealable clear plastic container to catch the grounds. You can grind in advance and keep the grounds there, ready to go. Although as all real coffee fanatics know, you should never grind until just before you brew.
Fine. But does it actually produce grounds that result in a better cup of coffee? I was skeptical. I have used a French press for decades and made do with a cheap grinder, which produces what I thought was an OK cup coffee. How much better could it be? On my first outing, I was surprised to find there is a difference using a more uniform grind. It produces a cleaner tasting cup – the finer pieces produce by a cheap grinder add bitterness. The bonus is there is much less sediment/sludge at the bottom of the cup with the Dedica, so you can drink every drop
.
So it works pretty darn well, And it looks nice too, iif you can deal with the aesthetics of having a massive grinder on your counter
That’s why I add on odd caveat. The grinder has big rubber feet to hold it in place. Great while you are grinding. Not so great when you want shove the big beast of a machine back edge of the counter, under the cabinets, to get it out of the way. I resorted to placing it on a folded napkin so it can slide more easily on the counter.
So sure it's pricey and a bit complicated to use. But it does the job exceedingly well. And that's what it is all about.

This is an excellent adjustable burr grinder! So far, with all the settings this grinder can adjust to, I've had excellent uniform results from all of the settings I've tried for my different brews.
I am definitely NOT a "Routine, Same Ol' Cup" everyday type of person! I like to brew up a mixture of strengths and types of brews that suits my mood at any given time.
This machine certainly delivers on my spur-of-the-moment needs on how many cups (1 to 14) and the strength of grind that my mind and body are craving. I Love It!
Oh, It also looks great on my counter-top as well.
I would recommend this grinder to any "Coffee Snob" that wants a great machine at a reasonable price!

This coffee grinder is a beast. The number of settings alone. I never knew one could grind coffee so many different ways which in my opinion brings out bolder full-bodied flavors. It kinda made me feel like a professional barista, although I know I'm not that good. However, this is a solid piece of machinery that is easy to use. It's a bit out of my normal price range for a coffee grinder, however, it gets the job done. I've only used it a couple times now and love how it's easy for single sized servings. I would recommend this coffee grinder for anyone in the market for a professional quality built grinder with tons of options.

I consider myself a bit of a coffee geek but I was relying on the "traditional" small, portable coffee grinder to make my morning coffee. As we started to do more entertaining, we needed to grind more coffee so we researched the market and purchased this DeLonghi 14-cup grinder.
It's a great machine. It's easy to use and you can customize the type of grinds you want with a simple setting change. I no longer have to put beans into a small grinder every time I want to make a new pot of coffee. I highly-recommend this machine to anyone who values a superior grind for their homemade coffee.

Over the years I've settled on my favorite ways to make coffee - french press, a refillable pod for a Keurig, and a cheap Melitta pour-over cup - so the only other piece of that puzzle is getting beans into the right form for each. I'm so happy to have this grinder! I get a great coarse grind for pressed coffee, any range of medium grinds for the Keurig pod, and use espresso grinds for the pour-over. It is especially important to have a uniform grind for pressed coffee to get the correct strength while avoiding a muddy residue, and I've had success with this DeLonghi. Since no cheaper blade grinder is up to this task, and burr hand grinders aren't consistent (not the ones I've tried so far) and take waaay too long, this one is worth a look. I'm happy to have it.
I don't see me grinding a whole bag of beans in one shot, but the hopper can hold a 12 ounce bag if you need it. Cleaning isn't much different than other grinders - even my hand grinder needs to be taken apart and brushed out.
Because this machine offers a "strength" setting as well a variety of grinds, you can experiment to find the exact setting for any brand, roast, or provenance of any coffee bean that suits your personal taste.

I've worked in a real coffee establishment that isn't Charbucks and have used real burr grinders that are high quality and also from Italy.
This is a great consumer level coffee grinder that is mainly constructed of various metals and it is a true quality piece of machinery.
While I wished for a better control over the grind in terms of being able to select more than three levels it provides, the lack of fine tuning is made up for in the true lack of noise this makes compared to the commercial unit I've used before.
This has a knob to control how many cups of coffee you'll need to grind - I still haven't found the exact setting for my coffee machine, but what is ground is truly aromatic and there is a significant taste difference in the whole bean ground to order and that stuff that is bagged or canned already ground. Ah, the smell of a fresh ground coffee that is immediately brewed. Heavenly!
Warning: Please make sure the top hopper is clicked into position so it won't move - if it is loose in any way you'll likely need to dump the beans out and to ensure that no beans have leaked out - my first grind had the grinding stopped because the hopper had slipped out of position - even though I thought I had felt it click. After I found how it feels to be secured, the grinding went on as desired.
This unit is a bit pricey, but it is a high quality item that is worth the money. You will truly enjoy the ground coffee aroma and the resulting brewed coffee flavor. This is a serious consumer machine!

Easier than I expected...

In reading the reviews and looking at the product description, I was expecting a somewhat complicated coffee grinder (digital readout and whatnot) that would have a learning curve. Much to my surprise this was a very simple device that took just a few minutes to go through and start using! Three quick push-button choices for coffee strength, an easy lever to set coarse-to-fine grounds, and a quick flip of a dial to choose the amount of coffee needed. Easy Peasy and within just a few minutes I was brewing coffee! Nicely built and very sturdy construction, looks easy to keep clean and has a cleaning brush included to get the nooks and crannies. Mostly used for basic "morning cuppa coffee" and definitely nicer to have freshly ground beans instead of pre-ground. After adding sugar and creamer, it's hard to say that it makes a significantly better cup of coffee (I'm not a coffee connoisseur as far as that goes) but it is a nice touch of high living to grind my own beans and get the best brew I can without adding a lot of time and effort to the process. Overall, a nice kitchen appliance that looks like it will hold up for a long time and adds a special touch to the morning "up and at 'em" first cuppa coffee ritual.

Great Grinder - Complements Espresso Machine Well

We like this coffee grinder. It's a really nice-looking machine and it does its job well. I especially like the fact that the grinder includes an adapter to grind directly onto a portafilter, which makes it great to pair with an espresso machine.
The only small knock I have against it is the hopper cannot be removed if there are beans in it - you either have to pick the whole thing up and dump them out, or grind it empty. Certainly not a deal breaker for me by any means. There is also a 'strength' adjustment on the machine in addition to the normal grind adjuster. I'm not exactly sure what this setting does, but the medium setting seems to work fine.

Nice Features, Has Some Flaws

I like the convenience of just pouring your beans into the top hopper and pressing start to get your perfectly ground coffee. It has adjustments for the grind, strength, and number of cups so you get it how you like it every time. Just set it and forget it as they used to say. However, two thing I don't like - first and worst- the mouth of the container that catches the ground coffee is too wide/ large - you can't pour it into your coffee filter without some of the grounds missing and ending up on the counter or into your coffee maker and then ending up in your brewed coffee. Also if you remove the top hopper with beans in it, or add beans to the hopper with it not on the machine, they pour out the bottom- the instructions do warn about this but I accidentally did it anyway and ended up w/beans on the kitchen floor - my bad but seems for this price they could have designed it so the bottom of the hopper closes upon removal. If these two things wouldn't bother you, go for it. (I'm not an espresso drinker so I haven't tried the portafilter holder accessory.)

Easy to Use - Grinds For Any Coffee Maker Easily

This grinder had easy to select ranges of settings, clearly labelled for each type of target coffee maker. That made it much easier than I expected to grind it to the level I would need for the machine I was going to be using (in my first test case, an Espresso Maker). To verify, I actually did use the beans ground in the espresso maker to make several cups of Espresso and it came out pretty decent as far as home brewed espresso goes. I had used the medium setting for espresso grinding, and while I did enjoy the coffee, I anticipate I will slightly alter the grind up or down to see how it affects the flavor of the coffee. One note, after you've ground beans and it has finished, if you are going to transport the machine, you may want to first 'tap' the machine a few times to 'clear' the ground coffee that has not yet fallen down. In fact, any time you change the type of grind and/or bean you may want to do that.

The DeLonghi Dedica 14-Cup Stainless Steel Grinder is a very good coffee grinder. It is fairly large so you'll need counter space to use it. It's roughly the size of a drip coffee maker. I only gave it four stars instead of five because I would like it to hold more coffee beans than it does. It holds around six ounces of beans and I would like to see a pound up there. Other than that, it has features to create any type of coffee grind that you would want. You can adjust between three different strengths of grind, plus you can change from very fine to very course grinds. There are 18 different grind settings so you can get it just how you like it. It comes with a container to hold the ground coffee and it also comes with an adapter to grind into an espresso press. It is a good looking machine and works perfectly. If you like freshly ground coffee then this very well could be the machine for you.

Nice grinder! It has multiple grind settings, you can fill the bean reservoir and grind a single or multiple cups [I've tried 8 max so far] and it's fast as well as an attractive appliance. I like this grinder so much I'm going to spring for an espresso maker [I'm a French press or drip brew coffee drinker.] to try that out.
2 caveats - after grinding your coffee, removing the ground coffee container allows any ground coffee remaining in the chute from bean holder to ground coffee holder to fall through.
Perhaps this was in the instructions and I missed it but do not remove the bean reservoir unless it is empty. Because if feeds freely to the grinder unit there is nothing to keep the beans from filling the space between the grinder unit and the area above where the beans feed from the reservoir.
My verdict? A great flexible grinder with plenty of power, a reasonably-sized ground coffee holder and a couple of minor points w easy workarounds. Thumbs up!

I have used cheap grinders in the past and found them to be painful to use. Not this one! I was very pleasantly surprised at the design and the quality of the product. It has settings for granularity and aroma. The machine is relatively quiet and creates perfect coffee.
The top unit holds quite a bit of beans and the bottom storage unit seals up nicely with a plug and twist off top. The seal is nice and makes no mess as it grinds. I couldn't even hear the grinding.
This is a great grinder. It isn't small, but it is an attractive design. It actually looks nice in the kitchen. This is a high quality product!

What can I say. This is amazing. I picked this up just before I went on vacation to Colombia. Armed with a couple pounds of amazing coffee beans I was very excited to give this a test drive. I have always known that this style grinder is superior to the blender style that always end up being used for spices but I had no idea now much better the coffee tastes with an even grind. I love that you simply tell it how you are going to use the coffee, how strong and how many cups. Press the button and the perfect amount is delivered into the lower container.

If you're a coffee person who wants that rich taste of coffee every time you brew yourself a cup then this grinder is for you. You can choose from a bunch of different grinds and it is super simple to master. The grinding process is pretty fast and it doesn't take long before you are enjoying a nice hot cup of coffee. I love the espresso setting on this grinder the most as it gets the fine grind I need for a great shot of espresso.

I have a Keurig and make my own k cups for coffee. The Keurig needs a super fine grind that my old grinder just was not able to do. This does an amazing job and now I can buy whole bean again.
Really does make a difference. Plus the air tight container keeps the ground beans fresher longer.

Take Your Coffee Grinding Seriously

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
This machine is well suited to those that have coffee in more ways than just a simple drip machine. You can grind the beans very fine for espresso or coarse for french press, or anything in between. It is simple to use with a selector for the grind result, a 3-position weak-to- strong selector (I think this varies the amount of grind the machine computes for each measured cup's worth.) A rotary knob lets you select how many cups worth you want to grind. The motor seems powerful and the beans are processed quickly, very much like the commercial machines set up with the coffee displays in supermarkets. We tested it with a fresh bag of a donut shop beans and the results were good. Fine grind produces a stronger, "flatter" taste, and the coarser setting a richer, smoother flavor. The manual welcomes you to experiment and advises you that coffee makers are different with varying results.
I would have given it five stars but for one reason--any excess beans you have added that are not needed after the grinder reaches the set amount for the cups you requested remain in the hopper, and will make a mess if the hopper is removed. I simply set it to grind another cup or two to use them up so the hopper can be removed.
