Pros Plenty of grilling space Includes flat and griddle cooking surfaces Can make waffles with optional accessory Versatile Easy to read digital screen Includes timer function Easy dishwasher cleanup Top and bottom cook surfaces are controlled separately Includes companion app Premium appearance Cons Actual temperature does not match set temperature Heating is very uneven Dials didn’t feel smooth for such an expensive product Steep slope on for drippings causes items such as eggs to run Drip tray removal is in back Massive size limits kitchen placement in normal kitchens Only includes temperature settings and no Low/Medium/High High amp draw might require using a separate circuit The Delonghi Livenza is a very large multipurpose grill. The grill surfaces have an integrated heating element. The claim is by offering direct heating of the cooking surface you get even distribution of heat. With the included flat grill and griddle and optional waffle plates you have the option to cook nearly anything without the need of a stove or oven. In fact, the Livenza can even serve as an open broiler. A timer and sear function are also included to round out the package. There are only temperature settings and no options for Low, Medium, and High so some knowledge of cooking temperatures or using the companion app are recommended. Cleanup should be easy since the plates are dishwasher safe and the drip tray catches everything else. The front display has a slight angle meaning food will likely need to be cleaned off the front but the task is not difficult. Strangely, the drip tray must be removed via a back slot. With such a large grill, a side or front removal of the tray would be preferred. If you intend to purchase the Livenza, keep in mind this is a very large grill. You could be forgiven for mistaking this for a commercial grade restaurant grill it is that large. It looks and feels the part in every way. It feels very sturdy as if it was intended for frequent use. Digging deeper into the grill, the commercial type nature continues where each heating surface is controlled separately and a bright, easy to read display shows the set temperature of each heating surface. Unfortunately, the temperature set cannot be trusted but more on that later. The knobs feel sturdy except that turning them feels rough, almost as if there is sand stuck behind the knob. This takes away from the premium feel a bit. After continued use the rough feeling lessoned. One can only hope this is because they are tight from the factory for extended use and require a breaking in period. Carrying on with the more commercial theme, with this grill open you have as much surface area as most residential cooktops except nearly all is useable. When cooking large amounts of greasy food, such as bacon, enough bacon grease is vaporized where you may want to consider using it under your vent hoot if you don’t have tall ceilings. Because of the size of the grill, if you intend to use both surfaces at the same time while having another appliance running, such as a small toaster oven, you will need more than a 15-amp circuit. Probably the boldest claim is that the Livenza solves the largest problem every cooking surface or grill and that’s uneven heat. Unfortunately, during testing it could not live up to this claim. Temperatures were verified with a thermal gun to very as much as 80 degrees Fahrenheit from one area of the plate to another. This can the difference between overly runny eggs and dry eggs. Not only are surface temperatures inconsistent, they are regularly higher than set. When the temperature was set to 400 degrees, a check with a thermal fun verified temps of 436-448. A setting of 350 yielded 398 degrees. This does not prevent the Livenza from being a competent cooking tool, only less than accurate or consistent. If you are in the market for a very large multipurpose grill for larger meals and value a sturdy build quality and commercial look this grill may be for you. Just be ready for temperature inconsistencies.

This May End Up Replacing Our Gas Weber

Since this is a kitchen appliance for the most part, and not really in my domain, the following review is by my wife, Mrs pillboy: I find it enjoyable to use this versatile appliance. We may never need or want to use our gas grill again. We’ve made boneless chicken breasts, hamburgers, pizza, grilled cheese sandwiches, pancakes, hash browns and eggs this past week. La mia pizza era eccellente! Our favorite was homemade pizza. We prefer a crispy bottom crust and achieved just that, in the very first attempt! This appliance is not ideal for making eggs, however it can be done if you "herd" the eggs with a spatula - the eggs want to flow towards the grease tray at the back of the grill until they solidify. This grill would be great for entertaining small gatherings or perhaps daily use for larger families. It fits nicely on our smooth-top range, under the exhaust fan. We found this location ideal, especially when cooking meat. In the future we may use it on the porch both for space and venting. I recommend the brief De'Longhi videos found under “From the Manufacturer” for informative overviews of several aspects of the appliance. I wish I had watched them prior to using the grill. Pros: No assembly required Contemporary styling Sturdy construction Informative display Simple to use Easy to clean Even surface temperature On screen timer (its use is optional) Multi-functional - Closed Grill, Broiler Mode or Open Grill Ability to adjust plates to different temperatures and change temperatures during cooking if desired Underside temperature of the appliance is not hot (countertops are unaffected) Cons: Waffle plates are not included - they may be purchased separately Price seems a bit high Eggs want to travel to the grease tray Other Observations: Cord length of 32 inches may require an extension cord in some settings Heats to 450° F in 4 1/2 minutes The variable temperature control dials include the following Fahrenheit temperatures: 140°, 175° 215°, 250°, 270°, 285°, 300°, 320°, 340°, 355°, 375°, 400°, 410°, 430°, 450° The sear function increases the temperature to 464° F for one minute and cannot be used again within a 30 minute period, even if the appliance is turned off then on again Default setting is Fahrenheit - Celsius setting is also included if desired

Solid Kitchen grill - year round use!

You could say I’m sort of a meat guy, which is why I was excited to have an opportunity to try out the new DeLonghi – Livenza All-Day Electric Grill! Not just because I live in Minnesota where the winter nights are so cold your nose freezes together, but because I can continue my grilling year round! In short, I was impressed the ease of use, quickness of grilling and ultimately the taste of my food after cookig on this grill – but there are some shortcomings. Read on for more… The grill arrived in a sturdy box, well packed and HEAVY. It should be heavy – it’s a solid kitchen appliance with multiple grilling plates – mine came with flat plates for things like pancakes and grill plates for meat. Yum. Interchanging the plates is relatively easy – just have to figure it out once and your good to go. I was hoping to receive some waffle plates too – but that wasn’t in my unit bundle. There really wasn’t much setup. I removed and washed the grill surfaces, placed them back in and fired it up! I didn’t know if the grill would smoke a lot, so I placed it right on the stove top underneath my woefully inadequate microwave/exhaust hood system. My exhaust system vents directly outside – so that’s a plus if your using an electric grill inside the kitchen. You can see from the pictures, it does produce some BBQ smoke when you are grilling for sure. It wasn’t bad in the house though – but I’ll be sure to place it there again when I use it. See picture. Each plate has its own temperature setting. For grilling most meat (steak, hamburger, pork, chicken) the guide tells you to set each plate at 450 degrees F – the max setting. Let the plates warm up (it tells you when they are ready) and put your food on allowing both the upper and lower plates to contact the food. BONUS – your food is done in roughly ½ the time since you’re cooking both surfaces at once – no need to flip! You set the temperature by adjusting the two large control knobs on the front and reference the LED readout for the setting. The unit features an adjustable hinge on the upper plate so you don’t squish your panini’s bread, etc. There are a few down sides to the grill though – let’s go through those: Size – it’s both a blessing and a curse. You can open the grill up and lay it flat – using both side like a normal outside grill – so you get more cooking area. You could set one side as a grill and the other as a griddle. Clever indeed! The problem is storing it. The grill itself it large, and when you have extra cooking plates with it – they need to be stored too. Keep this in mind when purchasing it. See picture. The power cord is pretty short. I could see another 3-4 feet needed for many applications. The note in the box is a bit disturbing: “California Proposition 65 – This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.” Really? The coating on the plates? I don’t like it. Overall – this is a solid, heavy, well-built and full-featured kitchen grill that will see occasional use around the home. I would suggest checking out the competition and sales before purchasing but if you do select this model I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

The DeLonghi - Livenza All-Day Electric Grill is mpressive, both visually and functionally. After using it to cook multiple meals, I can see how this can quickly replace many of my pans and even my stove top. To begin with, the electric grill feels like it's worth its cost. Every thing about it's construction feels sturdy. It comes with the flat pan-like panels installed which is ideal for eggs, tortillas, and other things you'd normally make in pans. I swapped those out to test the grill panels, which are included. There is a third option of panels to make waffles, but those do not come with this unit and are sold separately. There is a recommended free phone app that is a companion to the unit. It is not necessary but in an effort to test everything touted about the unit, I downloaded it. It's mainly suggestions to set a timer for the various foods you can cook with the grill. I followed those suggestion and made the following: 2 sirloin 3 inch thick hamburger patties and 1 sausage link (5 inches); 1 frozen chicken breast and 1 sausage link (5 inches). The first time I made the burgers, the meat was done as expected. I set the timer exactly as it was suggested in the app, 6 minutes for two patties. The meals cook quicker because both, the top and bottom panels heat up independently. The instructions on the app said: Set temperature on both panels to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Push the seat button and wait for a beep. Temperature will remain at 450 for the duration of the timer. Because I added a sausage link, my meat needed an extra minute and a half, but it was well done all around and inside. The chicken breast was also thoroughly cooked and from a frozen state. If you plan on using this daily (perfect for college students), then cleaning can easily be done with the included grease scraping tool and a napkin. Eventually, however, the panels will need cleaning. A simple press of a button makes the panels removable and you can hand wash them over a sink. A great feature of this grill is that the top panel can lie completely horizontal to the table, doubling up your cooking space and simulating a stove top. My reason for deducting one star is as follows: the top of the grill has an option to make paninis. A gentle push from the bottom of the top panel unlocks part of the top lid so that it swings and doesn't press down on sandwiches so as to not make them super flat. That feature is a little to sensitive and in my use, the lid turned into the panini mode without me wanting to. I tried finding something on the unit to make it more secure, but I couldn't find anything. It's not a big issue for what is otherwise a great product, as it fixes itself upon closing of the panels to cook.

This DeLonghi Livenza Grill comes with an app (What doesn’t these days?). Not one for using apps with appliances, I opted to wing it without the app. Oops. That proved to be a mistake. This grill has a lot of options and settings, and without the app you may find yourself floundering some. I later downloaded the app off the Google Play Store and installed it on my android phone. I found it a little worrisome that this app needed to know my identity and needed access to my photos. The app itself is useful though. You select the type of item that you’re looking to cook, answer a handful of questions about your specific piece (type of cut, size, etc . . .), and it gives you cooking instructions including temperatures and cooking times for that piece. The grill comes with flat skillet plates and grill plates. The plates are well-constructed and remove and install easily. The plates and grease tray are both dishwasher safe, which is a huge bonus, in my mind. However, the plastic cleaning tool that comes with this grill is a joke. It’s a thin piece of poorly machined plastic with little plastic filaments coming off of it at the edges. Mine was already warped out of the box. The instructions warn not to use this tool on the grill while the grill is hot as excessive heat may melt the tool. I would go further and add that this tool probably shouldn’t even be near the grill while it’s operational lest it melt into a puddle of plastic on your counter. I opted not to use the cleaning tool at all, and I let the grill cool completely and used a soft non-abrasive cloth to clean it instead. It took some vigorous scrubbing, but the grill seems to have cleaned off nicely. The grill doesn’t come with any cooking utensils. The instructions clearly state not to use any metal tools with this grill (always a good rule of thumb with non-stick surfaces), so I opted to use a silicone spatula. I don’t like cooking with oil because of the high fat and cholesterol content, and I was surprised that the instructions recommended liberally oiling various meats for best results. One of the big selling points of contact grilling has always been that it’s healthier and drains off more fats and oils than other cooking methods. This instruction seemed to fly in the face of that. I used a modest amount of olive oil spray while cooking, and my food turned out okay. I’m relieved to report that the olive oil spray did not seem to have any negative impact on the grill plate. I’d had some concern about it burning in and leaving a permanent gunk stain on the plate the way some cooking sprays do. I was surprised by the amount of moisture coming out of the front of this grill. I’d assumed that all of the drippings and the like would exhaust out of the back. That being said, I experienced a significant amount of condensation on the front of the grill. Given how cleanly it cleaned up, I suspect that this was just water vapor; but I thought it worth mentioning as it did catch me by surprise. I’m fairly happy with this grill and the app that comes with it. I would recommend this grill to a friend.

Just recently received this grill and the email request for a review was upon me before I really had time to use it. Therefore, I have only prepared a couple of things with it using the grill plates only. First, although it was packed very well in its box by the manufacturer and there was no apparent damage on shipping, there was some kind of abrasion on the right side hinge, looking straight on at it, that was there when I opened it. This is a very sleek-looking, solid piece of equipment that has a non-skid surface on the bottom which creates great stability for cooking. I used it to Grill/BBQ in the total open position that required use of the most counter surface. I wish the electric cord for the plugin was longer because when grilling, it must be placed on a counter surface that does not have any overhead cabinets from a safety and grease standpoint. In my kitchen that would either be on a peninsula that does not have a plugin close enough without using an extension cord or my island which does. So, the length of the cord limits where I can use my electric grill. Cooking and the ability to control time and temperature were great. One of the things I prepared was marinated chicken breasts. The owner's manual suggested putting some oil on the grates and I did that with peanut oil; knowing that other type oils could also be used. At any rate, the meat never stuck to the grill plates and the clean up in this instance was easy. I had also cooked hot dogs and did not use any oil on the plates as they secret liquids as they cook and sticking was not an issue. I see that there is a cookbook app that can be used, but because I wanted to get this review in now, I will admit that I did not have time to access and use it. When I went to the Google App Store, I put the name of this product in the search bar and it is there. This is what it says: "In accordance with the type and the quantity of food you want to cook, the app suggests the best plate position, temperature and cooking time settings. Incredibly easy to use, the app helps you to manage the most delicate stages of cooking, giving you precise instructions and tips for perfect results every time. It also features a handy recipe book filled with a host of delicious new dishes to try" There were 5 app reviews giving it a rating of 2.8 out of 5. However, I have not used the app yet so I cannot personally comment on it.

I have had this grill now for a couple weeks, and I have not seen anything that made me regret the purchase. Overall, this unit seems VERY durable, versatile and high quality. I was hoping it would be slightly larger cooking surface, based on the overall size of the unit, but with a 14"x18" unit, it is only able to fit 4 burgers on there. The only thing missing on this grill is the outdoorsy flavor of a propane/charcoal grill. Positives: - Since the grill plates can be placed in the dishwasher, the cleanup is quite nice. I had a different one prior, and it was a pain to clean, and was not dishwasher safe. Although this says it can be put in the dishwasher, it does say that after time, it could take off the slick finish. - The provided tooth-like spatula used to clean it is amazing, when it comes to cleaning. I cooked burgers, and it had the grease and burned brown stuff inside the grooves of the grill plates, and a single swipe with that spatula it wiped it away, like I was recording a commercial. - The App tells me exactly how long to cook things. Yes, an APP. The app shows different types of meat, bread, pancakes and eggs, and yes, even dessert and cheeses. - Timer shut off is pretty cool. Granted, the grills will still stay hot for a while, and you can’t leave the food on there, but the peace of mind knowing it will shut off is nice. - Alarm countdown timer lets you know how much time is left. - Heats up pretty fast. In about 4 minutes you are ready to throw your food on there. It lets you know when it is pre-heated - I can cook things EVENLY. Yes, that is an issue with most outdoor grills, but the ability to get the top and bottom to cook at the same time, the same temperature is not possible on an outdoor grill. It cuts the cooking time in half. - Panini-style grilling and Open-faced style BBQ grilling in the same unit. - I would bring this camping with us vs a propane camping stove. Sure, the propane gas stove may feel more outdoorsy, but this one definitely cooks better. I can cook breakfast, lunch and dinner on this grill. - Can cook a pizza. Yeah, I thought it was going to turn out terribly, but it actually cooks it just fine. The top and bottom plates are set to different temperatures, and are locked in so that there is only a little gap. Negatives: - Large size for storage (but much smaller than an outdoor grill) - Does not come with the Waffle maker grates. I was really hoping it did. Guess I have to pay more for those. - No way to store the grill plates & flat plates when not using the other set. I am not sure how to store them without setting them on top of one another and risking scratching them. I don't know how they would do that, but having interchangeable parts that are larger, it makes it difficult to account for storage. - The buttons/knobs do not have any words on them, only pictures. To some, this may not seem like a negative, but in reality, the picture that is next to the grill temperature dials, is a side view of the grill, where either the top or the bottom half is filled in with white. It is very confusing as to which is which. Is the dark filled in portion what the dial is for, or is it the white portion. Turns out, it is the white filled in portion (opposite of what I would think). I can see myself forgetting each time I grill, and having to look it up in the manual, which knob controls which grill plate. - The Cord is very short (only about 2 feet long). - Broil is only allowed 1 time, in 30 minutes. That seems kind of strange, because what if I want to broil several different things, or food that was not able to fit on the grill for the 1st round? - The top plate has a small ball/spring-like device to keep it in parallel to the handle, and when enough pressure is put on the top plate, it disengages and snaps into free pivot mode. That way the top plate is no longer angled away from the bottom plate, and drops to be parallel. I get that it is meant to pop out when I close it on a thick burger, but there is not enough tension in it so it doesn’t continually disengage when lifting it up/down or moving the whole grill around.

DeLonghi - Livenza All-Day Electric Grill - Black/Polished chrome This grill is pretty cool, I used the famous boxer grills in the past and never really liked them, seemed they were clunky and the grease drip pan was awkward and problematic. Plus they were not easily cleanable as the units really didn't come apart. As for the DeLonghi - Livenza All-Day Electric Grill, we have an integrated center grease drip pan, removable cooking plates which are easily cleanable and interchangeable with other pairs of cooking plates for flat grilling purposed, standard ridged plates and a waffle plate (not included with my model). In any case I put this unit to use for the first time with two New York strip steaks, they cooked perfectly and the grill marks were picturesque, like they came from a fancy restaurant. The steaks cooked quickly and evenly in a mode where the top grill plate sits on top of the food, this setting is also adjustable for other types of food either where you want to put some pressure (like a Panini) or an option to sit above the food without the top plate making contact (think something like shrimp or tender fish where you don't want to necessarily want to put pressure on food or make contact). Very interested on how this grill handles boneless chicken breasts, thick cut pork chops and kabobs. The temperature controls are pretty straightforward (one each for the top and bottom grill plates) with digital readouts and a sear mode which intensely grills your food. Should also do an excellent job cooking brats, Italian sausage or Polish Kielbasa. You can probably get innovative and grill some veggies on the non stick surfaces of the unit. Overall this unit is well built, the heat from the grill plates is well insulated from the rest of the unit, so you don't have to worry about other exterior surfaces of the unit heating up. I used the unit outside on my deck and quickly cleaned up after, that process is simple and painless. Only thing that I could really complain about was the waffle grills were not included in this model. Also the cord is a little short, so you better be close to an outlet.

The Livenza all day grill is truly an awesome grill capable of just about anything. To talk about all the functions and abilities that are possible with this grill would take too much time. Instead i just want to focus on some of its key features to help decide if this is right for you. Out of the box you will receive two flat plates, two grill plates, an oil drip catch, scrapper, and griddle plates. Very little assembly is required and no tools are needed. This is my first true grill/press. In the past i've own other basic grills that you may have seen on t.v. but nothing truly compares to this grill. Lets talk about some of the features. First off you have a LCD digital display which gives you temperature readings and timer countdowns. Off to the right are your temperature controls for your plates. Once nice feature i like is the individual settings of each plate. Depending on your cooking style and type of food your making you can set the top plate temperature different from the bottom plate in order to insure thorough cooking. Another nice feature is the three cooking modes that are offered. You have Contact grill mode, broil grill mode and BBQ mode. Contact grill mode is just as the title suggest, the two plates make contact with both the top and bottom food that you are cooking. This makes quick work of simple snacks or foods such as grilled cheese sandwiches, Quesadillas, pancakes and much more. Broil grill mode allows you to lock the top plate into a hover position and allows the griller to be used much like an oven. Im not a fancy cook but i did find this feature was very nice when it came to making mini pizzas. Since the top plate never touches the food in this position you can easily set the temperature higher for more thorough and faster cooking. BBQ mode is a really nice feature, it allows you to lay the top plate completely on its back providing you with two cooking surfaces. This is great for when you need double the cooking space. Built in to the grill is a grease catch which drains into a oil catch allowing for healthier eating habits. One thing i did forget to mention about this grill that i did notice was the fact that it had an integrated heating element built in to the plates. The reason i bring this up is since there is no open flame and since the heating element isn't built directly in to the grill this helps to eliminate any hotspots and give you a more thorough and evenly cooked meal. Also Livenza provides you with an online app for iOS and Android in which they give you lots of cooking recipes and ideas for meal planning. If you like to cook without making a big mess or breaking out the BBQ grill the Livenza is definitely the way to go. Right out of the box you are going to see the quality and care that was put behind this.

I have used an electric grill for many, many years for indoor grilling of meat and veggies and for making panini. It speeds up the cooking process and it is fairly to clean. I have never liked the George Foreman grills so when my grills would need to be replaced, it was so difficult to find a quality model that was durable. Nowadays, there are so many more models to choose from, each with a wide range of options and an accompanying price tag ranging from inexpensive to quite expensive. The Breville Smart Indoor 1.4” Electric Grill (BGR820XL) and the DeLonghi Livenza All-Day Electric Grill (CGH1020D) are at the top end, both selling for $299.99 and they both have similar features for the most part. The DeLonghi Livenza is called the All-Day Electric Grill because it comes with removable die-cast griddle plates for breakfast cooking and grill plates for the rest of the day (my model did not come with the waffle plates). It is convenient that the trays are dishwasher safe, but I tend to clean my trays immediate after use with moist paper towels. The cleaning tool that comes with the unit is helpful to loosen up the baked on char without harming or scratching the plates. A step up from my previous indoor grills is that there is a separate heat control for both top and bottom. That means I can use unit in a variety of ways to cook a variety of foods. For example: reheat pizza with the bottom toasting and the top as a broiler; completely open (and doubling the grilling capacity) as a grill for hamburgers and hot dogs; open as half grill and half griddle to cook fajitas with grilled vegetables; contact grill for sandwiches. This is also the sear function for sealing meat during the early stages of cooking, which keeps the meat tender and juicy. Another aspect that makes this purchase worthy of the high price tag is the Flex Press system. The floating hinge adjustment allows you to cook without crushing the food. That expands the uses of how this unit can be used (see above). My other favorite features are the safety locking mechanism, which allows me to store the unit in a pull out drawer under my counter, and the easy-to-read display. The older you get, the harder it is to read anything on appliances. The last thing I want to mention is the app that you can download onto your phone either in iOS or Android. It is the De’Longhi Livenza Grill app. The rating isn’t too high (2.8 rating), but this supplements the nine recipes you get in the black and white (hard to read and see) manual. The Troubleshooting and Cooking Guide are helpful. I was spoiled after reading the high quality Get Started booklet (large print, dark color, clear, easy to read, laminated paper). I know this is a very costly addition to a kitchen, but this is ideal for a young couple, empty nesters, or an older person who likes to cook but doesn’t want to use so many big appliances. This will not permanently replace an outdoor grill if you use one, but it is great backup when it is raining or windy outside or if you just have a few small pieces to cook in a small amount of time. It is a bit large to leave on the counter, but it does replace a griddle and panini maker. I would certainly recommend purchasing the De’Longhi Livenza All-Day Electric Grill. I have used it every day since I took it out of the box a week ago.

We have had other brands of electric grills that performed well for the price, size, low expectations. While they cooked the food the cleanup was a pain and the food was usually a little on the dry side. It seemed like it took too long to cook the food to the desired doneness. (New word created for this review, TM pending) My first recommendation, download the app from your favorite app store, unless you have a Windows phone, there isn't a app listed for it. There are a few different apps available for iOS and Android, I recommend at a minimum to get the Livenza Grill app. It will let you know what temp to set the grill at and how to configure it. Search for DeLonghi and quite a list will be available. The Grill app is the must have though. The recipe app is OK but very limited. Still some decent ideas in it. The food turns out perfect and quickly. The first thing we made were pancakes. Usually my wife will make 2-3 pancakes at a time, so one person eats every few minutes and she slaves over the stovetop the whole time. With the grill open flat, she was able to use both sides and pumped out a dozen medium sized pancakes all at one time. As for my part, beyond eating, cleanup was a simple process. I popped the removable griddle plates out, wiped them off and put them in the dish washer. The plates, spatula and grease catcher are all dishwasher safe. Possibly the most impressive thing, the pancakes that were not taken from the stack were still hot after I ate my first batch. Simply put, our first go round with the grill was outstanding. This would be fantastic for a college dorm room, a small efficiency apartment, mobile home/camper to the largest kitchen on the block. If you find one stove top is not enough, this is cheaper than a kitchen remodel. A few neat features that I have not seen in other grills: This has a oven mode. You can bake a frozen pizza (or home made pizza) in the oven mode. Basically the two plates can be configured so there is about a 3-4 inch gap between them. You set the lower plate to 450 F and the upper to 350 F. I am looking forward to trying this out. The other modes are the Closed and Open. Closed allows cooking both sides at once and Open is the griddle mode I spoke of earlier. Open allows cooking more stuff at once, closed cooks less but quicker. Oven is just cool...or hot in this case. There are interchangeable plates as well. You receive two griddle plates (top and bottom) and two grill plates (grooves to allow grease to drain and make the cool sear marks in the food). Also there are spatulas designed for the griddle or grill and a grease/drainage catcher. In conclusion, this is a great grill that is very versatile and easy to clean. Probably the best addition to the kitchen since the dishwasher. The build quality is top notch, and I think it looks pretty cool on the counter. Wife likes it put in the cabinet when not in use. Maybe after it becomes a daily use item she will like how it looks in the open too. :D Recommended +100

A Kitchen Appliance that's Fun to Use

I received this DeLonghi Livenza All-Day Grill model# CGH1020D through Best Buy’s Tech Insider Network in exchange for an honest review. I have to say that this was one of the most fun product evaluations I’ve ever done. This grill is very well made and is an absolute pleasure to use. After nearly a month with four different adults using it (one is a bit of a gourmet chef) I am able to heartily recommend it. It takes some learning at first, but the results are worth your effort. Over the last month, I figured out why DeLonghi named it the “All-Day Grill”. It is well suited to making dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and many snacks in-between. It really is an amazingly versatile appliance. NOTE: The CGH1020D model I received doesn’t include the waffle plates that are included in the model CGH1030D. The waffle plates are an option that I will be ordering. Keep this difference in mind if you purchase one of these grills. I’m not going to repeat all the features of this grill, when you can read that information in many other places. What I am going to say is that I’ve never encountered a better way to cook bacon strips than between its grill plates using the Contact Press grilling mode. The bacon is quickly and evenly cooked on both sides at the same time, all the while keeping the strips flat and allowing the drippings to drain into the drip reservoir underneath the grill. It actually cooks bacon in half the time of a frying pan. Frankly, I think there’s no better reason to own one of these grills than for making perfect bacon…especially with BLT season right around the corner. If you buy one, spend some time experimenting with some assorted, cheap, grilled sandwiches while you learn the settings. You’ll have some failures like my first grilled cheese sandwich that ended up being overcooked and squeezed out to the size of a dinner plate. After that, I decided I’d better read the manual on how to use this grill. But you’ll have many, many successes. In one month, we’ve mastered pancakes, eggs, steaks, shrimp, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, po-boys, Ruebens, shish-kabobs (OMG were they good!), all kinds of grilled sandwiches, lots of grilled vegetables like cherry tomatoes carrots potatoes onions mushrooms and peppers, tuna boats, pizza, reheated pizza (much better than a microwave), and even grilled Spam! Yes, they still make it and yes it’s very good grilled in this grill. We especially like grilling cherry tomatoes and then dropping them all warm and squishy into a chilled spinach salad. I do have one negative to report and that is we had one of the little rubber feet come out from under the grill during the first week. Fortunately, I found it quickly and slipped it back in place. The feet just slip in and can easily slip back out of place if the grill is slid across a counter top. A little adhesive holds them nicely, but that’s something the DeLonghi engineers need to look at.

I really enjoyed using this grill. It has so many features that I used this to replace my old griddle. How I used it so far For breakfast I used the flat plates and opened the hinge so that I could cook pancakes (see photo). I was able to easily fit 3 pancakes (1/4 cup batter) on each plate. Both plates were set to 300°F and the griddle signaled when each plate reached the desired temperature. I noticed that the pancakes cooked at the same rate, no matter where it was located on either plate. For dinner, I used the grill plates to make steak fajitas. I set the grill to 450°F and cooked both sides at once, with the lid closed, in under 6 minutes. The steak was expertly well done, with picture-perfect sear marks. The grill did steam quite a bit, so I would recommend cooking under a vented hood or open space. We also plan to purchase the sold-separately waffle plates, although due to the design we wouldn’t be able to make the traditional flipped Belgian waffle. App DeLonghi has a very nice app that gives ideas for the proper settings and cook times for many different kinds of foods. There are even recipes and preparation instructions, but I noticed the INGREDIENTS tab only has the picture of the food with a cook time and serving size. I assume DeLonghi plans to update the app soon to include the actual ingredients. Cleanup The drip pan did a great job of catching the dripping from both plates. The plates were very easy to wash, since the plates have a Teflon coating. I did notice some splatter on the controls, but it was easily wiped off with a damp washcloth. To summarize, I highly recommend this grill. It cooks evenly, is easy to clean up, and is very versatile. Really the only con I can think of is that the waffle plates weren’t included on this model and that they aren’t Belgian waffles.

The DeLonghi Livenza Grill is a great choice if you are looking for an indoor grill. The grill plates are interchangeable and it includes searing plates and a set of griddle plates. The plates are non-stick and clean fairly easily. I have cooked chicken breasts and some burgers and have been very pleased with the performance. The dials rotate to adjust the temperature in Fahrenheit. For me, the plastic dials don’t turn smoothly and feel slightly cheap on what otherwise looks to be a high end appliance. The grill displays on screen what temperature each side is set to and if the plates have reached optimal operating temperature. I like how the hinge opens up allowing you to cook on two independently temperature controlled surfaces. You can even have different plates on each side to further expand the cooking versatility. The plates are heavy duty and maintain temperature during cooking. A trade off is the plates take much longer to cool relative to other electric grills I have owned. There is a timer feature as well, though I tend to use Alexa or a timer on my phone to keep track of cooking time. DeLonghi also offers a companion app that can be referenced to determine temperature, plates, and cook time; though it isn't required to operate. The size of the grill is a strength and a negative in the same stroke. I like having the surface area to cook multiple chicken breasts, but the large size also makes the unit bulky and heavy. Aesthetically, it is nice enough to be left out from time to time, but I would prefer to have an item like this stored in the cabinet which is difficult to do due to size. Overall, I am happy with the unit and recommend the Livenza to someone who wants a versatile, high performing indoor grill.

Design: De'Longhi did a fantastic job designing this Livenza grill. It looks great in our kitchen! Although it is relatively large, I do not mind leaving it out on the kitchen counter because of the sleek and modern design. I appreciate that the oil drip cup slides under the grill in the back, so it is not visible. In addition, the buttons and heat control knobs are easy to use, and the illuminated display is easy to read. Versatility: The De'Longhi Livenza is the most versatile grill I have used. Many of my favorite meals can be cooked on the Livenza thanks to the swappable grill plates. For example, I like how I can make pancakes in the morning then grill burgers for dinner. Cleaning the grill plates is a breeze because of the non-stick surfaces, and they are dishwasher safe. Effectiveness: The cooking surface seems to evenly distribute heat, so food gets cooked the same no matter where it is placed. Once I learned about the features and became comfortable using the Livenza grill, I was able to cook my desired meals efficiently and effectively. The dedicated mobile app has been very helpful since it recommends what grill plate to use, what temperature setting is best, and how long to cook the food. I suggest downloading it! Verdict: Because of the design, versatility, and effectiveness, I now prefer the De'Longhi Livenza grill over any other cooking appliance in my kitchen. I can say with confidence that I would recommend this Livenza to anyone looking for an indoor grill!

Wow, Just wow. This grill have exceed all expectations when it first arrived at my house. The grill is going to be perfect for the summer days when you don't want to bring out the large outdoor grill and the food taste fantastic! The friends love how easy it is to use and work. First off this thing is well constructed every inch of this Delongi Livenza grill is premium. full stop. I have never used anything so premium! The handles are strong and no part of this electric grill is flimsy, All of this is steel just brings the product to life. The front panel is chrome with two strong knobs that independently cook each side of the girl. There is a sear function that works perfectly with each cook in my experience. There is a timer on the grill itself so no need to break out a spare timer. The display on the Delonghi is bright and fully readable. There are 2 die-cast plates and both are dishwasher safe. The plates are strong enough to last for years and years to come. comes with an oil drip cup and cleaning tools so it comes with all the things you need. The food taste heavily, my first meal with this Livenza grill was jerk chicken with roasted potatoes and grill carrots and it was so delightful. The app also is helpful as you can pick various sizes and cuts of meat to show you how to cook it properly with the grill. I have to say Delonghi went all out with this home grill. I would happily recommend this to friends and family especially those with an apartment or a smaller living space. You can never get old of the grill taste of food and this grill accomplish that for us.

I like panini, pancakes, and grilled burgers and chicken, so I decided to get the DeLonghi — Livenza All-Day Electric Grill. I am glad I did. With its 4 grill plates and the grease pan, there are several parts to assemble, but the instruction manual is straightforward, and everything fit together easily on my first try. After giving the grill plates an initial cleaning, I started cooking. The manual warns that there might be an odor the first time each set of grill plates is used, and there was, but only that first use. I am new to this type of cooking, so I have had a bit of a learning curve, but just a bit. I’ve put the grill through its paces, and everything has been delicious. Positives: Panini and other grilled sandwiches come out crisp, not soggy, and very evenly cooked. The result is every bit as good as a good deli or sandwich shop. The grill plates are so easy to clean. Cooked-on cheese and other stuff just slides off when I put a plate under a hot faucet. I haven’t put the plates in the dishwasher, not only because I don’t want to risk damaging the non-stick surface, but because I haven’t wanted to use dishwasher space for something that’s so easy and quick to clean by hand. The self-adjusting hinges also can be manually adjusted (Flex Press), so the amount of pressure is up to you. You can even let the top plate hover to get a broil or top-brown effect. It’s heavy enough to be stable and feel substantial, but still is easy to pick up and move around. No flipping! No matter how careful I am, I can never get a multi-ingredient sandwich (e.g., Reuben) to flip over without messing it up. With two grill surfaces, that problem is gone. The grill can be opened up flat, either to use both sides or just to get one side out of the way while you use the other. That also lets you cook two types of foods at the same time without having them mingle with each other — and even set different temperatures. Negatives: Some reviewers wish it had a longer cord. However, the cord is as long as the cords on all my other kitchen appliances, and it easily reaches both my under-cabinet power strip and the outlet on the side of my kitchen island. This is a fairly big device. However, if it was smaller it couldn’t do all of the things that it does. Bottom line: A good addition to my kitchen that already has me cooking more and eating out less.

Great Grill, Sturdy, Large, Rem. griddles, tricky

This grill is very nice. It has a large cook space(s) with flat pan or grill pan option. It has a single open grill, closed panini, closed broil, or open double grill options (doubling the space). It seems very versatile and the heating seems even. You can also individually control the temperature of each plate. This unit comes with the 4 plates (2 grill, 2 flat), main grill unit, drip tray, and cleaning tool (flat/slotted edges) Optional units have the waffle plate. It cooks well and can take the place of stove top, oven/broiler, grill. The cook space is about 12"x18" each side. The heating element is in the pans so they heat more evenly but must be clipped into the base. This requires you to line up the contacts on the bottom side of the pan (not too difficult but may take more than one try). Some cool features: The grill plates have independent temp control. You can turn the top off or a lower temp. The top can be open 90deg for non use, closed over bottom for panini style cooking (with a lower or same temp), closed over but not touching for oven/broil style cooking (with lower or off temp to keep heat in) Full open to use two grills at same or different temps (i,e veggies on one side, chicken on the other). I am still figuring out the knobs and releases on the side that allow all these functions (just read the manual and it's easy to figure out) Plates are removable to wash separately in sink (so you don't have to handwash the entire unit all together). I don't believe they are dishwasher safe though. Some of my issues are the following: Drip slots at back of grill don't always direct liquid into tray. There is dripping and condensation that occur along the entire back of the pan (most makes it to the tray). So prepare to do a little wipe up. On/Off Controls are unusual. When you turn the unit on, it does not stay on unless you hold down the power button to 'confirm' use. Otherwise it shuts off in a minute or so. There is also a timer you can set. Once the timer goes off so does the unit shortly after, you will have to turn it back on again. Basically, don't leave the unit unattended for long when you first start using it. It may take a while to figure out it's on/off nuances. If you don't use the timer it shuts off in 90 minutes. It's large which is good, but tough to store anywhere unless you want to leave out on you high-demand counter.

Grill is very easy to use and this model comes with two sets of grill plates (missing the waffle plates that come with the next model up) so there are many options for cooking. The two plates each have their own temperature settings, so you can cook two completely different foods at the same time with it in the open position. There are really many different positions since the plates can be set to cook in the closed position or can be set to several levels of thickness for sandwiches and other foods or they can be completely open and used as a large cook surface. Very flexible and is what makes this truly an all day grill. The grease trap is large and does a great job catching overflow whether the grill is used open or closed since both plates empty right into it. The included scraper does an excelent job getting stuck on food loose so the rest can be wiped clean. The plates (obviously) remove and can be placed in the dishwasher for cleaning. There is also a latch to keep the lid closed while transporting and the top has a handle that works well for carrying. I expected the app to be a gimick, but was really surprised by how useful it was. It has an almost over-simple start screen that hides all the features included. It will definitely not be too difficult for even younger cooks to get the basics down for their favorite foods. My only disappointment here was the terminology that some cuts of meat are called is nothing like I have ever heard in my life! I have to look some of them up, which I guess could be called a plus since I am expanding my vocabulary while I make my food! I am looking forward to cooking many more things with this than we can with our flat griddle, we are finding more and more uses for it all the time. I would recommend this for anyone looking to get a grill or griddle since it has so many uses in such a small footprint. As I write this, we are camping and brought our All-day grill with us since it folds up much smaller than out griddle we normally bring to cook bacon and pancakes.

A good counter grill. The versatility is nice, and having separate temperature control is great for cooking different ingredients. The removable cooking plates makes cleaning much easier. While being able to convert from press grill to a dual grill is useful, the “broil” configuration is not as so since the locking positions are limited and ends up either being too high to provide heat or too low that it’s touching the food. The press grill is a bit heavy and will flatten out more delicate meats, like salmon, or squeeze the juices out of steak and burgers. Liked: Different cooking configuration Dual temp controls Changeable cooking surface Disliked: Press grill is heavy and can crush some food Broil feature didn’t work that well I tested this out as much as I could and my results were mostly good. Using it as a conventional grill was fine. I made burgers, chicken, and fish and they all came out fine. Switching to the griddle plate, more liquidy food like eggs will run towards the drip pan. Cooking with the grill press is probably only good for really thick food, like big sandwiches or really thick steak. The press is heavy enough that it will press down on the food and either crush it or squeeze out all the flavorful juices. It tends to overcook much faster as well. In that case, it’s better to use the grilling position. The broil position wasn’t that useful for me. The top has three positions that it locks into and usually ends up being too high and doesn’t get hot enough to really heat, or it’s too low that you might as well be using it as the press grill. This grill does what I needed from an indoor grill and having the extra functions just adds more to the versatility.
