I will start by saying I had never ground coffee beans in my life! I'd been a pre-ground coffee aficionado "forever." Curious to see what "the other side" was raving about, I got this model. It is heavier than my pre ground coffee machines, impressive, and obviously professional grade. I unpacked everything, sticking close to the excellent instructions and managed to get everything in place for the first Big Test. After the coffee beans were dispensed in the built in grinder on top of the machine, what would happen when I made the selection for the first cup? How would the beans get reduced to a cup of coffee that would have me amazed? Well, everything worked as advertised. I pressed the Espresso selection, the beans started automatically grinding away, and Voila! I had a cup of perfectly ground and brewed Espresso at hand! There are other selection buttons on the top face of the machine, btw, allowing one a good variation of different styles (latte/variations of Espresso/ice coffee/ even pre ground). The neat glasses depicted in the advertising do NOT come with the unit, but De'Longhi does sell them. This machine works absolutely as advertised: Perfectly! If you are in search of that PERFECT cup of "Joe," then I would heartily recommend this machine! I gave away my previous pre ground machine! :-)

I bought this machine brand new thinking it would be the best but this machine literally takes me about an hour for it to work functionally. It tells you to put a scoop threw the top while but then it doesn’t go threw so, I have to make sure it goes through by hitting it with the bottom of my knife. Now I can’t return.

Where do I begin?! This espresso machine is excellent. It has definitely exceeded my expectations. Let me start with the looks. The design is very appealing and looks good in my kitchen. The machine itself is easy to wipe down and keep clean. The removeable pieces are also very easy to clean and dry. Just wash them like I wash my dishes. It's simple and doesn't really require any special cleaning tools like my last machine did. Now, the grinder in this machine is great. It has ground everything I have used with it very well. It's also not that loud compared to other grinders I have used. I have made cappuccino, a latte and coffee. All three of these beverages were smooth and tasted very good. It had a nice creamy texture and it went down the hatch smoothly. The flavors were bold and sweet. I used the built in recipes for all three and also input ones that I looked up online. The settings worked well in both cases. I think it's a great feature to be able to add recipes. Lastly, the froth with my almond milk was perfect. It felt like I was in an actual cafe. All in all, I am very happy with this machine and look forward to enjoying it more.

A Latte Effort For Some Cafe

My wife and I drink a lot of coffee. Well, I drink more, but between our recurring Keurig orders and the automatic reloads on the Starbucks card, we figured it was time to make our favorite specialty coffees at home. Therefore, we obtained this machine. Unboxing was rather different than anything I had experienced before. Packaging was great, with this weird cardboard paper sandwich that protected the coffeemaker extremely well, but apparently it was also designed to be used as some sort of lifting device to get the maker out of the box. There weren't any holes or handles in the packing that I could find, and it only lifted out partway. I ended up having to find handholds and just lifted the coffeemaker out of the box, leaving the "official" packing/unpacking material alone. Setting up also provided some challenges. The quick-start book was good for some things, but it felt like it wasn't published in the order it needed to be for an efficient set-up and quick start. Some of the pieces and accessories were already installed for one, which created lost time as I worked out what piece was what, and where it was. The additional pieces are not labelled or identified beyond a single parts diagram. I did appreciate the fact that the machine can account for things like filter wear, water hardness, and other variables that could have a significant effect on the final coffee product. However, while the steps for fine-tuning the coffee machine were included in the quick start guide, they came after the steps that have the user make their first few cups of coffee. I would have liked everything to be set up correctly the first time through. Finally, when I set the condition for my water hardness, I went back to double-check that it saved correctly. However, I found that it didn't appear to do so, and no matter what I did, I was never left with the confidence that that particular setting was correct. On to the coffee! Again, this was a situation in which I found myself having to refer to not only the quick-start guide, but the full user manual as well. The instructions say to make 3-4 espressos to start with, as these will be discarded, due to getting the machining and assembly residue and debris purged. This does, however, provide a great opportunity to fine-tune the grind for the espresso. The unit comes with a trial pack of custom beans, which were just enough to create the needed espressos and finish the set-up. I was able to get the 'warm honey' look and flow with some trial and error, and it definitely didn't hurt that the aroma of freshly ground coffee filled my kitchen. Clean up of a round of coffee-making is also very easy with the built-in container that collects the used grounds and other debris. I was amused to find that the machine creates little 'pucks' of packed, ground coffee, but I was not as amused to find how easy they burst apart if you touch them, leading to some unplanned-for sweeping and vacuuming. Cleaning the milk container is a little more involved due to the valving and different fittings, but it's nothing anyone can't handle. Beyond that, once a user gets used to setting up the machine for his or her specific drink preferences, the whole process is very straightforward. The illustrated touch-pad makes it very easy to select the drink one wants, and at the strength one wants. The alerts require some referencing of the user manual, as many are not very clear, but taking care of any issues is a non-issue. I like the fact that it can utilize both coffee beans and the stuff that is already ground, but there is a definite difference between the two. I would recommend letting it handle the grinding as the taste reflects the freshness. For me, the set-up is what pulled down the rating. For the price and features, I would have expected something fully ready to go out of the box, as this unit was close to being, but with a user only needed to set up the custom settings for their particular situation, such as the water hardness. With steps feeling as if they were out of order, I was disappointed that I had coffee in the system already, but with additional work that needed to be done. While it's not as fast as a Keurig, the results speak (taste?) for themselves. It's a lot fresher and fuller-tasting, the aroma is richer and longer lasting, and an owner can get additional options for drinks that other home machines don't offer. I look forward to trying various blends and offerings from around the world.

The very first espresso machine I ever got was a De'Longhi...over 20 years ago. Although it was quite primitive when compared to today's De'Longhi espresso machines, it was my go-to espresso maker for many, many years. Throughout the past 20 years, i have had to privilege to own two other De'Longhi coffee/espresso machines, and each one always delivered the most superior coffee drinks. So when I decided on the De'Longhi Magnifica Evo Coffee And Espresso Machine, I knew I would not be disappointed. I was impressed when I unpacked the Evo. The machine was much heavier than I thought it would be. But the more I unpacked, the more I understood why. Everything about the Evo screams quality. The materials are obviously high quality, and very well put together. From the drip tray to the brilliant display buttons, it is obvious that the De'Longhi designers and engineers put an insane amount of time into not just designing a beautiful machine, but also one that is designed to be intuitive and very easy to use. In all seriousness, the De'Longhi Magnifica Evo would be a beautiful addition to any kitchen. Putting the Evo together was straightforward and easy. The Quick Start Guide has more than enough illustrations to answer almost any question you might have about putting it together and making your first cup of espresso. And so it was that I followed the QSG, and within a short time I was ready to put it to the test. One thing I want to point out is that there are several lighted buttons across the top of the machine to indicate the types of espresso drinks you can make with just one push of the button. Each drink option is set to factory specs, and will always deliver the exact same drink...unless of course you choose to program your own version of each one. I at first thought only the "My Latte" button was programmable, but I discovered that each option can be user-programmed as well. I opted to leave everything set according to the factory settings. To make sure your Evo is producing the best drink possible, there is a very handy illustrated guide in the QSG that explains exactly how your espresso should look. By adjusting the grind and/or the strength, you can make sure you are making the best coffee/espresso possible. There are three non-milk drink options (four if you count the Hot-Water button) and two milked-drink options (three if you choose to program your own latte drink). The first drink I opted for was the espresso. After several adjustments, I found the sweet spot for the grind and strength levels, and produced an amazingly balanced cup of espresso. This is important, because it laid the foundation for all the other drink options. To make a rather long story short, I tried every single option...the Latte Macchiato, Cappuccino, Espresso, Coffee, and Over Ice. I did use the Hot Water as well, but only to see how much hot water it dispenses...which is until you stop it. This is great for hot chocolate and the like. The milk drinks make use of the included milk container. So what is my ultimate take on the De'Longhi Magnifica Evo Coffee And Espresso Machine? I am a person who loves a great espresso as well as the many variants of the latte drinks. But, I am a person who also loves the ability to simply push a button to get the drink I want. This machine offers both. Because I am able to program the Evo, I am able to design an espresso or latte to my own individual preference. I can now always have the perfect espresso...the absolute perfect balance of sweetness, acidity and bitterness. My macchiatos are amazing. Even the good ol' cup of coffee, each one made to please me. What more can you ask for? Don't get me wrong, there are things about the Evo I would change, such as the frothing. The Evo takes away the joy of frothing my own milk. But in view of the many benefits, I can live with that. The one technical issue I couldn't get around is the machine's ability to use ground coffee. This is probably an option they should have left out. No matter how I tried, this option just did not deliver. In fact, it created more of a mess than anything else. Each time I tried to use it, I had to clean the drip tray and the grounds container. But then, I did not get the Evo for coffee...I have a coffee maker for that. All in all, I heartily recommend the De'Longhi Magnifica Evo Coffee And Espresso Machine to anyone who is thinking about making the plunge into the made-at-home espresso world, and even to those who have been doing this for a while. It is a GREAT espresso machine, well-worthy of the long and rich De'Longhi tradition of exceptional quality brewing machines. Do yourself a favor, go out and get this machine. You will thank yourself every time you sit down and enjoy a great espresso or macchiato!

An automatic machine that will blow you away

Wow, the coffee from the De’Longhi Magnifica Evo is downright incredible. I am a bit of a coffee snob, love going to local cafe’s to enjoy a fresh quality cappuccino, macchiato, and of course, an espresso. With that said, I also brew at home regularly with a manual machine. I tend to use Cuban beans and some local dark roasts. My aversion to automatic machines like these has always been that I must give up whole beans. Most automatics, especially at this price, use pods or other non-whole bean methods to brew coffee. The De’Longhi Evo Magnifica is an exception. When you brew with fresh whole beans, grounded right before they are brewed, you get an unmatched coffee taste. The De’Longhi Magnifica Evo uses a bean hopper and conical grinder to achieve this. Where things get real fancy is that it tamps your coffee for you and everything. Thats where the magic in this machine lies. You are getting close to manually made coffee quality, with a fourth of the work. The machine has several built-in coffee drinks you can select from. I’ve tried them all and they are all excellent. The one that has blown me away the most is the simple and humble espresso. There is no way to hide a bad espresso. There is no frothy milk or fancy layers to mask a poor shot. The espressos this machine is pulling are downright incredible. I don’t even remotely miss my manual machine. The milk-based drink are honestly a magic trick. You simply pour milk into a container that is attached to the coffee maker, and that’s it, the machine will do the rest. Steaming milk is a tricky skill that takes a long time to learn, the De’Longhi Magnifica Evo does it for you, so you don’t need to stress about it. That’s the common theme with this coffee maker. Zero stress coffee. If becoming an at home barista with a manual coffee machine sounds bothersome to you, don’t sweat it. The De’Longhi Magnifica Evo will ensure you aren’t missing out. It has all the key features you need to pull perfect coffee shots every time without the headaches.

Pro: -Quick one touch hot coffee -Includes water filter, tester, descaler, and sample coffee beans Con: -Upkeep and maintenance I’m not a coffee expert, but I’m satisfied with this maker. It’s simple to use and maintain, and the coffee comes out smooth and creamy. I prefer lattes so this makes it quick and easy to brew a cup. There’s a decent amount of regular upkeep and filter that needs to be changed every other month. There’s a few steps for the initial setup. The machine needs to be primed, and a few batches of coffee will be thrown during the process. I had a piece of plastic come out of the milk sprout during the first run. You’ll probably go through half the sample bag of coffee just setting it up. Once the initial setup is done, making coffee is quick and easy with a one touch preset. The amount of coffee made is just about right, but you can also change the amount to your liking. An expresso will give you about a shot worth, and a cappuccino will fill about a cup. You can get hot water within seconds, while the milk comes out warm and foamy. The intensity of the flavor can be adjusted as well as how fine the beans are grinded for the perfect extraction. There’s a bit of regular maintenance that is needed. It’s not difficult to do, just a lot to be aware of. Indicators will light up telling you which ones need your attention. You’ll need to empty out the coffee bean tray and wipe down the inside, clean the infuser, replace the water filter every couple of months, and descaling the water if you have hard water. You can use it without the filter if you want, but that may affect the long term use. If you’re not using it often, the diffuser should be rinsed and run the cleaning cycle to clean out the spouts. You’ll also need to take apart and rinse out the milk container daily. Most of the parts are hand washed only.

The De'Longhi Magnifica Evo coffee and espresso machine is a good value if you like your coffee like I do. That said, I also own a Jura E6 so the Magnifica Evo faced some stiff competition in my kitchen, but it is important to note the Jura is nearly twice the price too. Setup and install is pretty easy. Especially so if you have used any similar style self grinding coffee maker. The first thing of note is that there is no display on the unit so it isn't as intuitive to use as one might expect. There are individual indicators on the unit for things like tank empty, empty grind tray, and strength. The machine will make lattes, espresso, coffee, etc. I primarily used it for just straight coffee, but I did use the milk frother a couple times too. I will say the coffee made was pretty great with the out of the box grind settings. Over the course of the last three weeks I have used three different beans and all have turned out great in the machine. The crema it produces is about as good as a barista could make and on par with the Jura. Making a latte is pretty easy too with the milk tank attached to the unit. Fill the tank and hit the latte button and away you go. I love lattes, but the cleanup is just too much of a pain for me. Even though cleaning this machine is easy by pulling the milk tank off and rinsing it, as well as, pulling the drip tray and grind tray. The problem is that lattes make this a daily affair or you can expect the unit to become a science experiment with growth thanks to the milk. So why only 4 stars? Well, simply put it really isn't focused on volume. The tank is relatively small and most of what it outputs even at max settings are lower volume. Not to say you can't just hit the button twice, but the tank size will quickly remind you that it would prefer you just make an espresso instead. So for me, the Jura goes back to my primary coffee machine and I will use the Magnifica Evo for speciality drinks. If you aren't a high volume coffee drinker then this machine might fit the bill. While seemingly expensive it is actually reasonable for the quality of beverage it produces.

All my favorite drinks at home saving money & time

Being able to make all my favorite coffee drinks at home is just plain awesome! The machine itself is very heavy and well built. The design is beautiful. And is a conversation starter for sure. Everyone that goes in the kitchen immediately asks about it. And its great to be able to ask them “Whats your pleasure” and actually be able to make it. Getting started can be a bit overwhelming if you expect to just know it all right away. But if you take your time and read the instructions you will be up and making your own drinks in no time. My 2 favorites which are very simple to make are lattes and macchiatos. And depending on the day and how I feel its awesome to be able to make both either hot or iced. Making the drinks can be as easy as you want with a couple taps, or you can tweak them to your liking. And once you get use to it it becomes as easy as your standard coffee maker. If you need a quick pick me up a double espresso is a touch away. It has 7 built in one touch recipes, and you can create your own as well. Even some of the complicated drinks are no problem. I look forward to experimenting with other drinks to see if something might replace my go to macchiato. Maintenance is very easy as well and laid out in the manual. It can all be done in a few minutes and with something like this its well worth the little time to keep your drinks flowing. For me as a daily coffee drinker this is going to save not only a lot of money, but time as well. Everyone hates being in hurry to get somewhere and have your local cafe backed up. Now I can have my drink in the morning (or anytime for that matter) without the wait and the money. And making drinks for guests is so much fun. I am very happy with my De'Longhi Magnifica.

This unit will make you a effortless, perfect cup of coffee, every time, repeatedly. The great thing about technology are the advancements in robotics. While this machine looks like a simple countertop kitchen appliance, it accomplishes an astounding amount of consistent, measured, automated functions. Those functions all come together to add a tremendous amount of convenience to your life. As someone who works from home, adding the ability to create a barista level quality coffee right at home by pressing a button is a life improvement I didn’t know I needed and now won’t give up. Gone are the days of brewing partial pots of coffee, or not to mention the whole process involved with making espresso, lattes, or cappuccino. You no longer have make an insane mess and take up an inconvenient amount of time manually going through the steps to create an espresso shot. It’s bad enough having to clean up all that equipment for yourself, it gets worse if you have to make multiple drinks for multiple people. Unboxing is straight forward. I was able to unbox this machine myself, but it did require some space to complete it. If you struggle with oversized items or don’t feel comfortable handling it by yourself, an extra set of hands wouldn’t hurt. You’ll fine several things inside the box: milk storage container, ground coffee spoon, a water filter, descaler solution, and a small sample of whole-bean espresso coffee. In addition to the obvious espresso machine, you’ll find a very high-level overview quick start guide and a much more detailed operating manual. The quick start guide wasn’t super informative, you’ll be better off deciphering the contents of the full manual on your own time. Starting out with the machine, you’ll do a fairly large water flush and run 3-4 shots of espresso before you can taste the lovely beverage this machine is creating. You’ll also need to take a sample of the water you’ll be using on the included hardness strip test. Setting the hardness levels correctly calculates the descaling period for your Magnifica. Without this set correctly you’ll encounter excessive scale that will be harder to remove from the internal heating components. From there, a simple push of a button can make barista quality drinks with zero effort. The Magnifiica certainly lives up to it’s reputation. With 13 grinder settings, the automatic brewing system, the ability to take ground or whole-bean coffee, and automated milk frothing, you can’t go wrong with your dedicated, personal barista. You can customize settings further for those that are slightly pickier with their drink. This machine is an absolute beast and I’m more than satisfied with it sitting front and center on my kitchen counter. It gets used every single day, it makes a consistent, great tasting, effortless cup of coffee and makes my life easier. While the machine is on the expensive side, if you’re a heavy coffee drinker like me that frequents coffee places, this machine is a fantastic investment. You’ll start saving money and have your coffee made exactly the same way, every day. I can‘t recommend this machine enough!

I'll start off buy saying I'm not a huge coffee drinker, however I do enjoy myself a latte or expresso every morning. Being someone that works a hybrid schedule, every day I'm home working this thing has been a delight. Easy to use, easy to clean, this thing is awesome. In addition to the different beverage settings you can also create your own setting. My wife and son are both huge fans of starbucks iced mochas. This machine does though too, little bit more cleanup but its definitely worth it for the money we'll be saving on Starbucks. I'm not a coffee drinker but have family here often that are. I'm not sure if they're here more to see me or use this machine but that's ok because they're my in-laws! This thing is very pricey but well worth the money spent, in my humble opinion. Another great thing about this expresso machine? It takes up very little space. It looks great on the countertop with other small appliances. If you're looking to have a coffee shop in you kitchen to use every morning, this is the machine for you!
