Makes superb coffee or espresso every time
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The De'Longhi TrueBrew Automatic Single Serve, 8 oz to 24 oz Coffee Maker with Bean Extract Technology (whew - that’s a long name!) is a simple to use and highly efficient coffee machine. It grinds your beans just before brewing for the freshest brewed coffee you can have! Or if you choose, you can add ground coffee just before your brew. You cannot store ground coffee in the machine when it is not on. You can add a bunch of beans to the bean container for use over a period of brews, but ground coffee needs to be added for each particular brew. This machine can make espresso with that beautiful crema on top (3oz at a time). It can also make brewed coffee in 5 sizes raging from 8oz to 24oz. This particular model does not support the use of a carafe. There is a convenient fold down cup tray you can use for smaller cups and this will avoid most of the typical splash. You can program this to automatically brew the type of coffee you choose at a specific time, such as in the morning when your alarm goes off - you can have your fresh brewed coffee ready! But it doesn’t stay set for the following day without your having to push a button and there is no way to set it to brew automatically “everyday”- I find that inconvenient. A couple things to mention - the machine is noisy. Of course the grinding of the beans is very loud, but also it does go through a lot of gyrations before brewing and also after cleaning the water lines - the brewing itself is the typical noise level. The inside of the machine gets full of coffee grounds. After just a few uses, it signaled with the icon that it was time to dump the grounds from the machine. There were some grounds and “pucks” in the grounds container but after removing the tray assembly I saw a bunch of coffee grounds all around the inside of the machine that I had to clean up. Also the water container doesn’t hold much water. After a couple large cups of coffee, it needs to be refilled. This is a wonderful coffee maker that makes superb coffee each and every time and that part far outweighs the minor shortcomings it might have in my eyes. It is solidly constructed (plastic for the most part) machine that I hope will last for years to come! I would definitely recommend this De'Longhi TrueBrew coffee maker.

Disappointing coffee maker.

Even when I filled the ground coffee "funnel" to the max, the resulting cup of coffee was light brown and not hot al all. I followed brewing instructions to the letter.

Technical issues with water tank

So I just returned and got Ninja espresso and coffee maker and happy with it.

It simply does not grind the beans as it's intended. They constantly get stuck regardless of brand. The coffee maker takes forever to turn on and get going to make a cup of coffee. We tried making it work by doing a corse grind first, still doesn't work as it should. What's the point of this if I have to grind fully the offee, put it in the shute, compared to simply just getting a kcup and going for it each time. I would not buy this again, and best buy has a 15 day return policy, so you for sure won't be able to return yours if you take a chance

Lots of work for a bitter cup of coffee

I wanted a brewer that would grind the beans and brew a cup at a time. This machine does that but the care and feeding of this beast hardly makes it worthwhile. It constantly needs the reservoir filled, the grounds and overflow emptied, or more beans. The metering for cup size either overflows a normal cup or half fills a larger cup. The brew itself is the bitterest coffee I have drunk outside of a rundown 7-11. Do yourself a favor and avoid this overpriced piece of junk.

If you like a mess free cup of coffee run!!

If you are using pre-grounded coffee you might as well just go to Starbucks. I just spent the last hour of my first morning with it cleaning all the coffee grounds. This is the messiest machine I have ever used. I packed it right back in the box afterwards and it will be returned. Oh, and the best part is that I did not even get a cup of coffee it never brewed with the mess. I am heading to Starbucks now.

Grinder has problems

Messy amd poorly designed

Do not buy.

A good idea, bad execution?

It didn't recognize the water tank and then leaked all over the counter top. DeLonghi took more than 5 days to get back to me. I returned the coffee maker as there was not another one close enough for exchange.

Had high hopes.

Shame on me for not knowing Best Buy has a 14 day return policy, learned this the hard way. DeLonghi customer service is being difficult as well. Looks like I will be stuck with a $500 paperweight. Plus side, my counter in my office has never been cleaner.

Worth the counter space for this machine
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The DeLonghi TrueBrew Automatic coffee maker is a great machine if you want freshly-ground coffee brewed without the hassle of filters or the needless waste of pods. This unit is easy to unpack, assemble and get started. Maintenance is also minimal. So the big question is how does it taste? My other machine is a DeLonghi Dinamica, an automatic espresso maker. Unlike the Dinamica, this uses less pressure resulting in less overall body, crema and depth. But it is still tasty. The trade-off is this machine lets you pour larger quantities than the Dinamica which maxes out at about 6oz or 7oz. For this machine, coffee flavor up to 8 oz is only slightly less flavorful than the Dinamica. At 12oz or 16oz, it starts to lose flavor, though still decent. At 20oz and 24oz, however, the machine pulls a neat trick: it will pour 16oz, then start a new grind for the remainder. My tip is that for the best coffee out of this machine, make a maximum of 8oz pours as needed. Highlights • Can make coffee in a variety of sizes: 3oz (”espresso style”), 8oz, 12oz, 16oz, 20oz or 24oz. The machine has a flip out stand to bring smaller cups closer to the spout. That’s a nice touch and minimizes splashing. • Adjustable temperature which I leave at its highest setting. • Adjustable strength, which I leave at its strongest setting. • Warns you when the bean hopper needs refilling before it’s actually empty. This is a really nice feature since the hopper lid is dark and you can’t easily tell how many beans are left. Lowlights • A bit tall and wide. Check the size in the specs if you are tight on space. • Automatically turns off after idling for about 30 minutes, which is quite short. I would like something that can idle longer so it’s ready to go for my second cup of coffee. Fortunately the start up time is under a minute, but it’s always nice to get a caffeine hit as soon as possible. • There is a bypass spout for ground beans if you want something different than what’s in the hopper. But I did not enjoy coffee made via the bypass – it lacked flavor. Other • The very first cup of coffee, as the instructions indicate, is not good. It comes out very watery. It wasn’t until the third or fourth cup that it tasted consistent. • Secret feature: if you want to pour a volume that’s not one of the options (3oz, 8oz, etc…), you can press the flashing “brew” button while it’s pouring to stop the output. So if you want 10oz, hit the 12oz button and stop the output when you’re cup is full. In terms of absolute taste, I would rate it as very good. For the convenience of larger pour sizes, ease of use, and simple maintenance, I rate it as excellent.
