Does it's job, but doesn't shine elsewhere

Replaced an existing Denon AVR that's been the heart of my system for 15 years. Receiver delivers on build quality, and sound (the important things). It really lacks in documentation that is deceiving, confusing or a flat out lie. I can't get the connection to alexa working, and the auto shutoff procedures don't appear accurate. The amp can power 7 speakers. If you want 2 zones you need to give up two of those speakers for the 2nd zone. To me the atmos is useless, as I am powering a 7.2 system, you'll want a receiver with at least 9 outputs if you want a home theater that supports a traditional 7.2 system and height (atmos) speakers. Heos works as expected, but feels like a 2010 app. The OSD also feels dated, but it works and I want good sound not a fancy tablet.

Have owned Onkyo and Yamaha, but this Denon is the best AVR I've had. Great clarity, and classic look. Not a fan of the menu screen as it looks like a child's drawings, but not something to really complain about. There is an options button on the remote that brings up different items that are not explained in manual.

    HEOS App is trash

GUI is subpar and HEOS app is really bad. No technical problems, but HEOS app is not a great solution for streaming. Spotify opens naturally, but TIDAL opens in this garbage interface that doesn't allow, for example, dynamic playlists created by the app. Paid a lot for speakers, receiver, tidal subscription, and its hampered by this crappy little piece of software

Doesn't alway recognize Atmos ,it definitely gets loud, but the sound isn't always distinctive, personally my Sony receiver does a better job decoding Atmos at around $200 cheaper.

      Hello David,

We are sorry to hear about your experience. The receiver is reliant on the signal that is provided to it, if the signal is correctly being sent to the AVR then Atmos should be recognized. There may be something happening with the auto audio setting that is causing a hiccup as well. It will automatically switch to whatever signal is being sent to the AVR, for Atmos this means the source needs to be properly setup to send out an Atmos signal. Please ensure that your source is setup properly to be sending out Atmos encoded data so the AVR can recognize it and switch to Atmos for those programs. We would also recommend that you contact our customer support team for further troubleshooting so you can easily enjoy your AVR further. Product Support: 800-497-8921 denon

Stopped working after 2 years and 3 months. Purchased from Denon and it was 3 months out of warranty so they won't fix it. Save your money for something dependable.

Make sure you buy extra warranty. Purchase twice, same issue after 2-3 years. Device automatically shuts off with flashing red light.

Good budget receiver. Slightly underpowered. The Onkyo NR6050 is in the same arena with more power and crisper sound.
