    Sound bar system was easy to connect with my new television. However, I experienced some elevated "bursts" of sound when watching TV programs until I started using night mode with the remote.

    First thing is the set up was real easy. The sound bar is sleek looking and won’t take up a lot of space. The sound quality is good, depending on what the tv is playing you can hear a nice base sound out of it. The volume is what I don’t like about it, the numbers go in 3’s instead of 1’s so 3,6,9 etc. but the volume doesn’t get loud enough to hear until you get to 25, so anything below that you can’t hear the tv. The other thing is now I have another remote without a universal remote I can only adjust the volume with the included remote. I would have like it to be able to pair to my tv remote which controls everything else but the sound bar. All in all it’s a decent sound bar, watching an action packed movie or watching a music video you get a nice sound and base from it.

    I have helped friends set up soundbars of different price points and honestly unless you are willing to spend a small fortune the performance, like the sound left me flat. Until now. The Denon DHT-S316, is the exception to the rule. Let's face it. With only one very expensive exception, even today's higher end 4k and now 8k tvs have gorgeous pictures but less than Stellar sound. The Denon DHT-S316 fills that gap nicely. For those who may not know, Denon is under the same corporate umbrella as MARANTZ, a name synonymous with excellent quality and sound. I found this a snap to set up. One simple tip, if you have an ARC channel, plug your HDMI into it. If not, then use the provided DAC. I used the ARC option, went to my Sony remote, changed my speaker option to external.... BOOM. DONE. The sound is so much fuller and more enjoyable than the TV speaker, and the subwoofer adds just enough punch to stand out. I connected my turntable, via Bluetooth and after setting the mode to music was quite pleased with the performance. Well worth the cost, a quality product by a company known for sound innovation the Denon DHT-S316 is worth the cost. So if budget is your concern, look no further. Enjoy!!

    Personally, I have not heard of Denon before, so I have not used any of their products previously. With that said, this soundbar was very easy to set up, looks and "feels" great, and provides pretty great and quality sound. You likely don't need any thing additionally with this soundbar as everything you need is provided initially (including a battery for the remote, a HDMI cable for ARC and an audio optical cable. You actually can just use the audio optical cable and be fine - for myself, I like minimizing wires, if possible). Additionally, the soundbar itself has buttons on the top and it comes with it's own remote, but if you are a little tech savvy, you can very likely "link" it to a universal remote or most cable TV set-top box remotes, which is what I did. As far as sound quality goes, the sound itself is pretty clear and crisp, and I have not noticed any "feedback" or "fuzziness" that one might notice with some older soundbar. You also do have your basic sound settings you can customize, such as bass, which is pretty nice for someone like myself who is just looking to enhance sound while watching TV and not go "all-out" with a home theater system. I will say that the sound itself can be turned pretty sound, though I do live in an apartment, so I haven't turned it up to it's maximum, yet. So, for smaller living rooms or even bedrooms, this will do the job nicely. I also have not noticed any "lag" between my TV display and sound being projected, which is something I have noticed with other soundbars in the past. Conveniently, the subwoofer is wireless, which is nice, though it does require it's own power, which may or may not limit one's options of where to place it. Overall, I am pretty happy with this product. If you are looking for a "simple", "smaller", or "basic" sound system to compliment your TV, this is definitely worth checking-out. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to enhance their TV viewing experience.

    Great sound but limited versatility

    I just want to start by saying this is one of the better sounding sound bars out there. Sound bars will never compete with 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound systems, but you can't beat their ease of set up and the huge bump in sound quality over your TV's built in speakers. The biggest draw back for this sound bar is the limited number of HDMI ports. Luckily, the HDMI ARC helps in that department. BUILD QUALITY Denon is a quality speaker brand that makes quality products and this sound bar is no different. It is solidly constructed without being too heavy. The subwoofer isn't overly large but still packs great sound. There's no flashing lights or anything that screams gaudy, it is an understated sound bar that isn't meant to draw attention from your TV. I also like the top mounted buttons. It's not something I use a lot, but I have a Samsung soundbar with buttons placed on the side and are confusing to use. These are not and they're easy to locate and understand. SET UP Set up is easy. This is actually where the fewer ports is a plus. You can't really mess it up. Just make sure if you plug the sound bar into your TV's ARC port. That way other devices that are plugged into your soundbar can enjoy the sound. If not, then you want get any sound. Your other option is to use the included optical cable, which sends sound from your TV to the soundbar. Luckily both cables are included. Most TVs are going to have optical outlets, which might be the best bet if you aren't sure about your TV's ARC input (most if not all newer TVs have them). Just make sure the settings on your TV are correct to enjoy optical out sound. I don't think you'd have to change them, but keep that in mind as a means of troubleshooting if after you plug it in there's no sound. Getting the soundbar up and running is simple and connecting the wireless sub is as simple as plugging it in to an outlet (it can be placed anywhere in the room, I put mine behind the couch) and hitting the sync button on the back of the sub. I didn't mount it to the wall, but there are instructions to do so and I wouldn't imagine it being too tough. I will likely mount mine to the wall when I get some time to hide the cables behind the TV (that's the one bad thing about any sound bar, is the sight of cables). SOUND QUALITY Denon is known for high quality sound and this sound bar delivers. It has rich bass and immersive sound, despite only being 2.1 channels. It has some Dolby surround sound magic that sounds pretty good. But again, it won't produce true surround sound but for a living room TV or TV in a den, it's perfect. EASE OF USE The remote is dead simple to use, but if you have ARC input on your TV, you probably don't even have to use it (a plus, one less remote to mess with). With ARC sound, your TV controls the sound, so your standard TV remote should, without you having to do anything, control the sound. You would need the Denon remote to change sound settings, but honestly, that's not something you'll do much. Like me, you'll likely pick the preset sound you like and then leave it be and just be adjusting volume as you see fit. CONNECTIVITY I have a lot of devices plugged into my TV. FireTV, Chromecast, Nintendo Switch, and 4K Blu Ray player. Luckily for me, my TV has that many inputs. Once you set things up it really isn't a big deal whether your devices are plugged into the TV or soundbar, in fact, you could argue it's easier to plug them into a TV and just use your soundbar for sound. That way you never have to use a separate remote to change inputs. BUT, if your TV doesn't have enough ports, this Denon won't help your problem. I doubt this is a problem for most people, but given my lifestyle I need a TV/soundbar/receiver with lots of HDMI ports. Like I said, I get by with the HDMI ports on my TV, it's just something to keep in mind. Plus, this soundbar is pretty pricey, so you would generally expect more inputs. But that's a fair trade off for the great sound quality. I just caution everyone looking at this sound bar (or any soundbar) to pay close attention to the number of devices you want to be hooked to your TV and keep in mind that the Denon soundbar doesn't have any room for expansion CONCLUSION Bottom line is that this is a great sounding soundbar that will compliment almost any TV. I probably would want something bigger if I were using it for my main movie/TV television room, but it would be perfect for most people. Only thing to keep in mind is the number of ports.

    Ah GoT season. What perfect timing to try out a new soundbar! The Denon DHT-S316 is a 2.1 channel soundbar that comes with a wireless subwoofer. Pretty much good for stereo sound plus base. So, basic functionality, but maybe it will have more up its sleeve. The soundbar itself looks pretty sleek and stylish. The subwoofer isn't anything special but that can be placed unobtrusively at the side of a room or by a wall. It makes sense, the soundbar will be seen the most as it would need to be placed in line with the TV for best sound. Based on the remote and inputs, I was not expecting much. A single HDMI input, optical, aux, and bluetooth. As barebones as the controls. Looked another way, this can be a good thing. With a pretty simple set of features, perhaps this is a soundbar that does one thing and does it well. Setup as expected was pretty simple. Hook up the HDMI cable, press the sync button on the subwoofer and go. After hooking things up, it was time to listen to some shows. Playback of some streaming titles from Hulu where I'd typically only got stereo sound was good - as good as stereo playback on a higher end system. The speakers don't sound cheap. It has a voice-enhancer feature which didn't seem to do much. Moving on to the bigger test, how would it fare on a content heavy GoT episode? The answer was - it did ok. Certainly better than the TV speakers and one could certainly pick out left/right differences as characters moved across the screen or had a whispered converation away from others. I wouldn't say I was blown away by the sound but it was good. What the GoT episode highlighted was that the bass was not as strong as expected. The bass was there, enough to contribute to the ambiance, but not going to fool you into thinking you have a full-fledged home theater system. The remote was easy to use and responsive. Line of sight didn't seem to be an issue. With HDMI ARC, you can use your TV's remote to control the soundbar. You lose the audio enhancer functionality but as I found, you likely won't use it anyway. The only other advantage the soundbar's actual remote provides is switching inputs. If you have multiple devices, that can be useful. The soundbar has buttons to control everything on the bar itself so if you misplace the remote, you won't be stuck. I would recommend this soundbar system to someone looking to improve upon the built-in PC speakers while keeping things simple. It does a decent job and won't distract look-wise.

    Perhaps the best sound-bar I've tried

    I’ve tried a variety of sound-bar systems, and this is system is definitely worth the money. I currently use an upper-end Bose system which is no longer made/sold (from the Solo line, but a single large box to put a TV on top of). The sound quality of the Denon S316 is not quite on par with that, but it is a really good system for the money. I have tried the newer Bose systems which are the same form factor as this Denon system, and I was not impressed with the sound. It seems that the sound-bar form limits the mid-range that these systems can produce, which results in an artificial-sounding bass-boost to dialogue, particularly with informative programs like the news. However, this system is something that I’d say is pretty comparable to the Bose sound-bar/subwoofer systems. What this system has that the Bose sound-bars do not is an independent bass adjustment on the remote. This can address the odd bass-sound in newscaster voices. Additionally, the Denon system has different settings to not only adjust the audio for movies or music, but even voice clarification. I’ve seen this be very helpful for people who are a little hard-of-hearing or who have a hard time picking out dialogue over background music. The Denon has 3 levels for this, so you can set it to your needs so you can hear the dialogue without affecting the other sounds any more than necessary. In total, I’d say this system is well worth the sale price of $300, and likely still worth it at the MSRP of $350. If you want better sound, you’ll likely have to go for a much larger system that isn’t just a sound-bar/subwoofer, which will take a lot more money, and even then you’ll likely not have as many simple-to-make audio adjustments. I’ve made a video of my thoughts, which you can find here: https://youtu.be/CJqAyX8b3EE

    This is my first attempt at using a soundbar. I am not an audiophile by any means but I can differentiate between a decent set of speakers and a good set of speakers. I was intrigued with this soundbar because of its Bluetooth capability. Right now, we use a Bose Soundlink for serving music from our phones. I was hoping that this soundbar may be an upgrade over it. Unfortunately, after trying this out, I didn't feel any major difference in the sound output. Now coming to the actual use case of using this soundbar with your TV. The ideal way to connect this to your TV is using HDMI cable assuming your TV supports HDMI-ARC. Unfortunately, my LG 3D TV from 2013 doesn't support that feature. Hence, I had to rather use the optical cable. That's not a problem though because it keeps your HDMI port free (assuming you have limited number of them). A good thing about this package is that it comes with all required cables including an HDMI and optical audio cables. Another great feature of this product is that the sub-woofer hooks up wireless-ly to the soundbar. Hence, you don't have any messy cables to deal with. The connection is pretty fast as well. It connects within 2-3 seconds. There is a button to re-pair it with the soundbar but I didn't have to use that. The soundbar comes with a quick start guide. The complete manual is available for download from Denon's website. The soundbar is wall mountable but doesn't come with any screws to mount it. It seems like it's easy to mount though since it comes with an easy to use guide with markings on were to put the screws. The soundbar comes with an IR remote which could be used to switch between Bluetooth, AUX and HDMI/optical. There is no equalizer setting available. Although, the bass could be changed using the remote. All in all I found the product to be OK. Not out of this world but not bad either.

    Dolby Digital / DTS / Great Sound / Wireless Sub

    Dolby Digital and DTS with a Wireless Sub in an inexpensive compact package. If you are looking for a low profile (only 2 inch) soundbar with a wireless sub and quality build then this might be just the ticket. You can place it on a shelf under your TV or install on your wall with Wall Mount Spacers. Setup is easy, you are able to take advantage of your TV’s ARC HDMI Port for a seamless connection or if your TV has an Optical Out you can connect via the sound bars optical input. Placing the Wireless Subwoofer near the soundbar is all that’s needed to have them pair up, which I found out by accident, but that’s all you need to do. You can also pair up your Bluetooth phone for music listening from your favorite music app. Once hooked up and up and running the sound you get is full and rich with nice bass. If hooked up through HDMI ARC then the soundbar can be controlled with your TV remote which is a great ARC feature. There is no Bass adjustment however so you cant customize it if you wanted to but that’s a minor issue for some, major for others, the sound is so good though that I don’t miss the adjustment capabilities. Overall at this price point the DHT-S316 is hard to beat, I definitely recommend it.

    Denon = Quality

    Denon has been around for some time and is known for quality so I was very excited to get this Denon 2.1 channel soundbar. The setup was extremely easy - basically connect via HDMI from your tv to the soundbar, plug it in and turn it on. The sub-woofer automatically connected. As others have written, the remote is very basic but that's fine for me, as I use a universal remote anyway. The best feature of this soundbar for me is the ability to adjust voice settings. The sound on TVs is usually lacking and I find it difficult to understand dialogue sometimes. The ability to adjust the dialogue on this soundbar makes a world of difference in this area. Finally I can understand what people are saying! As for the overall quality, it is very lightweight... the bar and the sub-woofer both, but this does not take away from the quality. This unit sounds good... I wouldn't say it's fantastic though. I don't get those crisp notes I want with this - either from the highs or the bass. I listened via Bluetooth to a playlist on my iPhone and I was not impressed. I listened to movies, music and dialogue from the TV and that was most impressive. As an improvement for a typical TV, I would highly recommend this Denon 2.1 channel soundbar.

    Decided to hook this sound bar system up in one of my bedrooms since it is a smaller sound bar than the one I have in my living room. I was a little hesitant on expecting great sound from this one primarily because I’m honestly not familiar with the brand and I thought the size would make it a lesser item than the one I already have from a different brand. I was pleasantly surprised by how good this sounds. I’m not an audiophile or super picky when it comes to things like this. I just know what sounds good to me and that makes me happy. Specs are great but I’m not the one to delve into all of the technical stats for this (I’m sure others will satisfy that need). The subwoofer helps round out the sound when needed so it’s doing its job well. I don’t know if I would feel the same in a much larger open space like my living room (the one that I already use in there has a much fuller sound to be able to handle the larger space) but it’s definitely adequate. If I didn’t have anything to compare it to I might have been happy with it even in the larger space (because let’s face it...almost any type of sound bar system would be an upgrade from the tv speakers on most TVs now). If you’re looking for a budget friendly sound bar system that sounds great you should definitely consider checking this out.

    I really like this sound bar! For someone who doesn't want the hassle of installing a true surround sound system, this option is for you. The sound bar looks sleek and stylish, and it does give you that theater feeling in your own living room. A bonus is the wireless sub woofer that links directly to the sound bar. All you do is find a place to plug it in and it pairs automatically. The sound bar comes with a remote control that allows you to adjust overall volume, sub woofer volume, and it also has several other modes such as night mode and music mode. Pairing the sound bar to my phone via bluetooth was also very easy. My only complaint is the lack of options to connect this to my older tv. My tv does not have an optical port or an aux port. So, since I stream all my tv via a streaming stick, I linked the soundbar to my tv stick via bluetooth. All in all, it sounds great and I really like it!

    Minor Adjustments = Awesome Sound

    I set this unit up in my game room which is about 150 square feet and the sound is incredible while playing my video games, music and occasional movies . It is really simple to set up and use if you have ARC HDMI. In use you basically have separate adjustment of the base and sound volumes and a few sound settings - movie, night and music along with three voice clarity options. The sound quality is spot on for TV and music with a really full sound. I found that to get the best out of it you needed to adjust the base up or down to suit the specific content. Once you find the right balance the sound is great. It can be set in the middle for a general quality output but if you want to get the most from music and movies it needs tweaking to your tastes to really impress. And it really does impress. I have a 42 inch TV and the stand is small and it fits perfectly on the stand.

    I received this soundbar set at no cost for an honest review. Receiving a 2.1, I was expecting very limited sound. However, this 2.1 soundbar and bass combination definitely puts up a fight against any surround system. For starters, it is very unobtrusive and thin. The bass unit is also smaller than most bass systems in this category. It can feel a bit cheap just because it's so light, but once you plug it in, you'll be blown away. It is very simplistic but it has an ARC HDMI in, OPTICAL, AUX, and bluetooth. The bass is wireless so place anywhere at your discretion. The remote is also very simple, but keeps things easy. The bass is powerful but the best part is how clear the voices can be. With this set, Denon really focused on getting voices crisp and clear, and with that, they did awesome. The only reason it's 4 stars is because for a 2.1, you'll just have to hear it to be convinced, otherwise I'm guessing people will be tempted to go for a 5.1 within the same price range. I do recommend if you're looking for something unobtrusive and still powerful.

    Had a LG sound bar for a few months but constant subwoofer pairing issues drove me to find something else. Denon makes great audio products and this is no exception. It’s a bit smaller in size but that is the only thing negative that I can come up with. The sound is crisp and clear all the to the max, the bass is powerful for the size of the unit. No sacrifice in sound at all by going to a slightly smaller sound bar, the room is easily filled with it. I got the unit on sale and then there was an additional home theater discount so I really can’t conplain at all. This was a fantastic purchase at the $249.99 price before tax that I got but $349.99 is still well within reason. This is a quality product that exceeds expectations.
