Nice Soundbar That Delivers Nice Sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.As titled. I would consider this a lightweight soundbar-sub system (as in actual weight). And not too big. Black with cloth covering in the front. Setup is extremely easy. Plug plug plug, on on on. The sub syncs to the bar immediately. You can connect via HDMI, optical or bluetooth (which is basically typical). Of course, HDMI Arc allows you to control the sound bar with your tv remote. The soundbar's remote is small and a bit thick, with various functions -- power, source, volume, bass volume, other modes, and voice enhancer. Voice enhancer is a great feature that allows you to increase the volume of voices/words/spoken audio without increasing all audio, so that you can hear words and not have action or other loud scenes overpower. The soundbar also has some function buttons on top of it (power, source, volume). The soundbar sound is nice. I won't call it amazing because it is not. But it gets the job done. Audio is clear. One thing I noticed is that the volume is super-incremental. What I mean is you have to hit the volume (up/down) many times to get the equivalent of hitting it one time on anything else. I mention this because I find it interesting. I am connected to a Samsung tv. Nonetheless... There are light indicators on the front when it is on and when you increase volume (regular and bass). The bass is not that strong but you definitely hear it. It gets the job done. Overall, this soundbar system sounds good with regular tv, streaming, movies (including 4k) and music. For the music, I played using bluetooth. I would recommend this soundbar system to those that do not require extraordinary sound (non-audiophiles). This is a good average system that definitely delivers. Peace.

The atmos effect is barely noticeable, the subwoofer seems to go in and out at lower volumes, there is no treble response and no control to increase it and the remote control is just awful. VERY disappointing from a brand that usually delivers.

Posted .Hello, we appreciate your feedback. The Denon DHT-S517 was intended for medium to large-size rooms with the ability to provide an impactful experience. Perhaps some setup tips may help in the future. Subwoofers will typically perform best when placed in a corner. Corner placement will result in greater bass response. Also, audio settings often require adjusting within the connected sources and TV. Digital Audio setting is best when connecting a soundbar. I really wish I had had a chance to demo it in the store first is that would've changed my mind. This sound bar just misses out in sound quality and functionality both. Dialogue was almost hidden regardless of the setting and very hollow and muddy sounding, highs were almost noticeable and the base from the subwoofer was lacking terribly. Aside from a little extra bass it was a step down in sound quality from the built-in speakers in the TV. At this price point I would've expected a lot more! I have a $50 no-name Amazon sound bar in a bedroom that out performs this in every conceivable way. It's a real shame as I've owned multiple Denon receivers and components over the years and they were all amazing. Returned.

Posted .Thank you for your valuable feedback. Perhaps the room acoustics is playing a role in the poor sound quality. To test room acoustics, stand in the middle of the room and clap your hands. Test the difference using this method from the Bedroom to the Family room. You have bad room acoustics if the clap is overly bright and echoey. A bedroom will typically have better room acoustics providing better audio. If this is the case, consider an area rug or curtains. An area rug and curtains can act as sound absorbers, increasing the sound quality within the troubled room.
