    Not what D2 fans expect

Let me first start off by saying the game is not that bad, IF you have never played D1 or D2. The game is completely online. There is no offline single player mode. The transition from the D2 visual style to the D3 WOW visual style is upsetting. A change from the dark stylistic setting in D1 and D2 is destroyed with bright colors and silly character models. It is hard to tell weather you are playing the third in a series. The story is extremely poor. From the corny dialog to the lame attempt to continue the series. As the story goes on, you begin to think Blizzard is trying to end Diablo. Not to mention the game is completely story base. Once you complete an act, You cannot go back or forward in acts without leaving the game and making or joining a new one. You have to sit through the story every-time you make or new character, even when you advance in difficulty. They have movie instances which are played during the game. Even though you can skip them, they become irritating. The "game" system has changed as well. There are no more game channels. You join games based on the quest you are on. You are linked with players with the same quest. (joining a game similar to COD) As of now there is no PVP. The skill and stat system has been fundamentally transformed. They introduce cool-down times and eliminate customization. You don't get to pick which skills you want. Skills are gained by meeting the required level. There is absolutely no difference between a character other than items, gender, or class. You can choose a skill set, if you are comfortable with that set you continue to gain new skills that are never used. Skills do not level up. Instead you gain "runes". Basically they are additions to the skill. There is absolutely no stats to appoint. Stats are pre-determined every level. The current level cap is 60. I imagine they will release expansions as they do with WOW. This game is an epic failure. Forbes magazine has written a piece about the Diablo that never was, which I employ every Diablo fan to read. Essentially Blizzard shut down Blizzard North and hijacked the game. We now see the result. As former Diablo creators moved onto such titles as, Tourchlight and the failed Hellgate London. If you are interested in Diablo 3, I advise you to watch youtube game-play videos to understand what you are getting. If you are a Diablo fan don't expect much from this attempt on a sequel.

I played D3 during the beta test and hated it, easily deciding not to buy it when it was released. Recently I saw it advertised for half price ($29.99) at BestBuy and, since I had read that the 1.07 patch had stabilized it quite a bit plus given it some new features, I decided to give it a try. There is no doubt that the 1.07 version of D3 is vastly better than the version I played during beta. That being said, it is still not nearly as good as D2 was, IMO. It is definitely more "theme parky" or "rail guided" than D2 was - I have read that this was done to accommodate the console version, beats me. I finally managed to hang on long enough (by "hang on", I don't mean because of difficulty but rather from boredom) to beat Diablo on Normal with my Witch Doctor playing on Monster(5) difficulty. I wish I had played it on 9, but oh well... I am now playing Nightmare on Monster (5) and it is occasionally a bit harder than Normal, but the game is just plain boring. Sorry to disappoint all you fanbois out there, but the truth is the truth, no matter how much it hurts...

This is not a review of the game at launch. That was horrible. Everyone knows the game was unplayable. This is almost 2 weeks later. The game is unplayable during normal gaming hours; like at night. If others are playing, then you will not be able to play because the servers disconnect you after less than 2 minutes. And saving is only to checkpoints i.e. THE GAME IS UNPLAYABLE. I've tried every few week nights, but the only time I was able to play was a Sunday during the day. I suspect the positive reviews are coming from addicts who are playing through the night. On a Friday evening, I've been disconnected 10 times in a row. And it will continue like this for the foreseeable future. Just like the launch. Customer support responds after a few days, to each ticket - and I've sent multiple - with "yeah, our servers were really getting hammered. it should be better now." But of course, it is not.

I have been meaning to do this for awhile and to those that bought the game and have been ripped off by Blizzard, I am sorry I didnot get this posted sooner. This game is online only, and is prone to accounts being taken over by hackers. Blizzard while saying it is the account user's fault will not abide by their own policy to reset the account and will instead ban your account. With it being an online game only, once this is done you may no longer play the game. I was able to play mine for 5 days, took a 2 month trip, returned to find the account had been taken over. When reporting the problem, my account was banned. In the end the hacker stole my account, and Blizzard stole my game. From what I did see of gameplay, the graphics/gameplay are average. I expected more with such a long wait between the games. I hope this saves someone from my experience.

    I want my money back

Having played WOW for several years (I stopped my subscription over a year ago) and knowing Blizzard's dismal record with getting connected when they have a new release or update, I waited until the initial "rush" was over to try the thing out. I'm taking it back to see if I can trade it in or get a refund. The whole experience was a disappointment. The game is nothing more than a cheaped down version of WOW. My biggest complaint is the need to have a constant internet connection to play, even in single payer mode. However the whole experience was a major let down. I played Diablo II from the time it was first released until the discs wore out, if you are a die hard Diablo fan, skip this mess and avoid the let down. In my opinion this is nothing more than a thinly disguised money grab my Blizzard to shore up their diminishing WOW revenues.

The game play of Diablo 3 is fun... if you can play.. I bought the collectors edition from Best buy and the game was fun to play when the servers were up even though half the features like the auction house have been down 75% of the time. But I got home from work the other day and the game has been removed from my account and it set me to the starter edition... I can't access my high level chars I made or any over lv 9. I've tried to call support multiple times over the past few days and every time I get a recording saying there phone Que is full please try again later. Well later never comes I've been calling at all different hours multiple times a day for 4+ days. I also submitted a online support ticket with the game and still 4 days later no response. If you like playing the games you buy don't buy this one...

I had been waiting for this game for years! And I was so excited to get a copy on the very release date... However things did not go as well as I expected. First I could only play for a total of 20 minutes (all together) on the first day. I kept being disconnected from the server. Now it is getting better but this game requires an internet connection at all times. This means that I can forget about it because of my funky shared internet connection. Unfortunately I am afraid I will have to return it. As it does not save automatically I have to restart over and over again when the connection fails...

You cant play the game on the release day, due to the server busy. What is the point of releasing the game when the server is not even ready. You do need to connect to the battle net in order to play this game. Blizzard will probably improve its server, but don't expect this will be done in the near future. So you just expect to get server busy code from battle net every time you connect to it. Blizzard, you owe me $60 and about one and half hour of trying to connect to your server! If you have not owned the game, do not buy it. Keep your $60 and spend your $60 on something else.

I LOVE Diablo 2, and am still playing it, even toady. Make that especially today, as the servers for Diablo 3 are down yet AGAIN. I pre-ordered this and have not been able to play more than an hour today because of server issues. This is what happens when you make it online-only to play, Blizzard - people can't play it when you can't get YOUR side working. Right now I have a $60 drink coaster. DO NOT BUY THIS until Blizzard can get thier act together and offer offline play!

Haven't been able to play because the description said broadband was required for Internet content, however it didn't say you needed a constant broadband connection just to play the game on any level. I expected to at least be able to play a single player game without internet while maybe sacrificing some multiplayer play and features. Not so. Don't even bother unless you have constant broadband.

Having experienced 2 times where battle.net servers went down i have to say that this game sucks. Pure and simple, it doesn't have that great of graphics, its HUD and user interface is...ok. its laggy. you can only play with a few people (3 i believe) at a time, really strange for a Online Only game. if i we're considering buying this game again, i'd go buy a slinky or something that actually works!

They claim it is playable on Mac computers, however it never specified it had to be a Mac computer built after 2009 or something like that. I wouldn't have a problem with this if I hadn't already opened it to find this out. Now I'm stuck with a game I can't play and I would have to be wiling to sell it on ebay for less than I bought it for.

I had high expectations for this game but after playing it for a week. It got really boring. This game is based on the real money auction house. The loot is horrible. You have to buy your items in the RMAH to play inferno. The items can cost up to $250 per item. Big scam is what it is. Check out the forum before you buy this bad game.

This is a game that's been released prematurely. The customer service is a nightmare. I know everyone feels like they should get it because it's a game they've anticipated for a long time. I was an avid D2 player. Just stay away. Go buy a different game.

we were not informed that a special graphics card would be needed to use this item on our home computer...and sadly it is needed. So we cannot play or enjoy our new game without new equipment. BOO Blizzard!

Nothing new at all. Blizzard got greedy trying to implement a constant revenue mechanic for D3 as they have for WoW.
