Excellent game if you are into story plots, emotional and dark topics, and Digimon! I like the game as the music and overall story are really good. You can get to choose your ending according to how you interact with the other characters. However, the only bad side is that fighting is only 20-30%, which I wish there could be more.

I've been following Digimon since its release back in the 90s with the original release of Digimon Adventure. I have played every release so hear me out. This game has a heavy emphasis on the visual novel aspect (you're playing a well written Digimon Anime if you think about it). Yet people will pay 69.99 for a Call of Duty game that offers the same gameplay 8 years over and over. Anyway, If you don't care for the story you can skip a lot of the dialogue and be in battle in about 10-25 minutes (Fire Emblem grid based gameplay). I purchased the Switch version to support the developers. I purchased the PS4 version digitally to take advantage of the Guilmon bonus first month bonus. The game has roughly 12 chapters and can be beaten in about 40 hours. 80 - 100 if you want 100% completion. 59.99 is a a steep price, I do recommend this game if you were seriously into the first three seasons of the anime. Otherwise wait for it to go on sale.

First of all, if you don't like VNs, don't buy this game. A VN has a lot of reading...it's a visual novel and that's how they work. I play all kinds of games, traditional RPGS, MMORPGS, JRPGS, Platformers, VNS, etc and I can say that this is a very well made game. I've played a lot of other VNS and this is the most hands-on I've ever played. People want to complain that there aren't enough battles. The game seems to average 2 battles a chapter for the main story. However, you can do as many auxiliary battles as you like and they are necessary for recruiting new Digimon and leveling characters. In regards to the story, It is very adult and serious which is actually super refreshing. You have to make choices which ensure the survival of members of your party. There are also many more serious themes which lurk within the backstories of the main cast. My only complaint is the free time that is in each level. Essentially, you have a set amount of chat icons to spend for the free period in order to raise your relationships status with other characters and their Digimon. I don't like that you can't skip it and that you have to use all the chat icons. It feels like the developers are giving you the illusion of choice in who you can speak to, when in reality, you have to speak with everyone. Otherwise, there are enough twist and turns to keep the game interesting..providing that you actually know how to read, which some people who have bought this game apparently aren't able to do.

This game is mostly a visual novel, unlike other entries in the Digimon franchise, albeit a brilliantly made one. If you're an adult, I honestly believe these kind of games are at home for the Switch rather than fast paced action packed games that end up running in sub 30fps.

I knew going into this game is was going to be mostly a graphic novel with some rpg elements to it. I have to say I put over 60 hours into the game and plan to return. The story was great and there were plenty of decisions to make thst effect the outcome of the story.

If you're familiar with the Digimon franchise, then this game may be a surprise. Many people place Digimon in the same category as Pokemon being a monster collecting RPG but this game departs from others in the series by leaning more in the visual novel camp. There is still adventure and strategy to be had in this game and is a great game to pick up for any fans of the aforementioned genres. Game on cartridge, no download code.

Great and wonderful visual novel/tactical rpg! It's nerve-wracking, attention grabbing and I love every second of it! As far as the dlc content goes... I also didn't receive it in my purchase. I submitted a ticket to Bandai Namco with the receipt sent to my Best Buy account as proof of purchase and they admitted I was qualified before giving me the code I deserved. And by the way...Guilmon is fun at first, but I hardly use him on my team now. maybe others will be different but it's not necessary to enjoy the experience. Love it and will continue playing all the way to the end!

If you haven't been paying attention, Digimon Survive is a VISUAL NOVEL with tactical RPG elements. Every choice matters as the story grows darker and more intense. You'll be replaying and utilizing the many save slots just to experience every twist this adventure has waiting. Additionally the music, art work, and characterization are just wonderfully enjoyable.

I originally planned to wait on Digimon Survive, not because I wasn’t interested, but because there’s so many other releases and only so much spending money to go around. Then I saw that Bandai Namco had given the release a lower physical print run, especially for the Switch version, than usual. It was sold out on Best Buy where I had reward certificates to spend and I was scared I’d missed out. Thankfully, upon routinely checking the app, I noticed it was available to add to cart and I promptly went through the check out, added my rewards, and completed the purchase at around $44. I’ve managed to play about 1 hour so far and from what I’ve experienced, I’m loving every minute of the game so far. Digimon Survive is primarily a visual novel (ie, Dangonronpa) with grid based strategy combat (ie, Fire Emblem, Stella Glow). It leans heavily on the visual novel / point and click gameplay from what I hear and what I’ve experienced so far but that’s perfectly fine with me. The characters, plot set up, world, and atmosphere so far have all been very engaging and interesting. It reminds me a lot of the original Digimon Adventure anime, just with a more mature, creepy tone. If you’re a fan of story and character heavy games, of SRPG combat, and of both reading and watching anime, then I’d highly recommend this to you. While I’m admittedly not a big Digimon fan, I did enjoy the original anime season growing up and the Digimon Movie. This game seems to be a sort of spiritual successor / restart to the original show and set up. Especially in my busy life right now, Digimon Survive is the perfect game for me to play. I don’t have time to put into games with deeper mechanics like Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and my play sessions are very short — Survive is perfect for extended or short sessions, where each one feels akin to picking up an exciting novel again or starting another episode of an anime. The graphics, soundtrack, and gameplay all feel high quality, too. As long as you understand this is going to entail a lot of reading with a little bit of turn based action thrown in throughout, I think you’ll enjoy this game. It’s been absolutely worth it so far for me and I can’t wait to get back to it each time I have to step away!

This game is a 60/40 split where the 60 is essentially storyline and the 40 being gameplay. I'd compare this game to a cross between a tactics style game like Fire Emblem 3 Houses and Danganronpa. I've completed the game and just skipping the dialogue on specific areas to just get to the newest section based on the 3 TYPES of decisions Harmony, Wrathfulness and Moral each providing a different ending once hitting chapter 8, saving at the right moments. Such as when leveling up affinity(meter based on how the other characters like you) to get them to at least a 70 so you can unlock the megas is crucial, so save and reload the game if you pick the wrong option. You can't miss the Affinity Up heart next to the character if you choose correctly. Lastly I was among the many that did not receive Guilmon, until this morning I received an email from BestBuy regarding DLC for a recent purchase. The code worked and I have him on my roster of characters.

Great game but the pre-order bonus is not included as advertised. No it's not inside the case anywhere and no it was not emailed to me. No it also will not prompt you to receive your pre-order bonus in the game after the battle tutorial like some have said. That is false. If you pre-ordered from Best Buy for a physical copy reach out to Bandai yourself so you can at least get a ticket started for this issue. Again, lovely game, great gameplay with a lot more seriousness than expected (LOVE THIS)... but I hate how dishonest the pre-order DLC was advertised. Maybe it was just a mishap on Bandai's part but man it sucks not having Guilmon.

Take the negative reviews here with a grain of salt. The producer of Digimon Survive has always said this game would be 70% visual novel, 30% tactical RPG, and it succeeds at that with interesting characters and high stakes. If you're a Digimon fan who enjoys darker themes in Digimon stories, you'll love this.

This is a great game in the series! Best Buy did sent the DLC bonus, it came in a email. Don't listen to the bad reviews. They didn't sent the email the day it came out but they did sent it. This game is a visual novel/strategy RPG. Look up some reviews before you buy, it's not for everyone.
