Huge improvement over my older DJI drone in every way. The tracking features and video/image quality do not disappoint. 12mp stills don’t sound like much, I’ve been very impressed though. The fly more package is worth the extra cost. Definitely recommend ND fingers and I think they should be included considering the price.

This drone is incredible. The photos and videos are clear, crisp, and very steady. The drone performs very well in higher winds(20+/mph). The programmed quick shots make anyone look good. Waypoints add incredible functionality and cinematic smoothness. And… the zoom functions are great!

I've only ever owned two drones, one was kind of basic. This one is definitely the better of the two! I love the picture/video quality, the only downside is the price, boy was it expensive! But definitely worth it! I will only be buyijg Dji from here on out, the next drone i buy will have thermal capability!

Exactly what you would expect for a DJI product. Works flawlessly and what can I say, this is quite a drone. I bought the Air 2 when it first came out and was amazed, now I'm amazed again. Thanks Best Buy for the quit shipping and DJI for an excellent product.

I have been flying DJI Drones since the Phantom series was first introduced. Throughout the years, I have owned several Phantoms, almost every Air, a Mini 3, as well as the Avata FPS. I have even tried drones from DJI competitors, but have always come back to the best. Being very familiar with DJI products, including the action series, has made it easy for me to upgrade almost each and every time DJI releases a new product. As a landscape photographer, real estate photographer, and videographer, I am always looking for tools to improve the quality of my work. Having previously used the Air 2 and Air 2s versions, I was excited to see the specs and improvements that DJI has somehow managed to fit into the Air 3. Is it worth starting out with the Air 3, or upgrading from a Mini, or previous Air series. Read on to find out. The Air 3 has a number of improvements over the previous models, including low light / night mode, 360° omnidirectional obstacle sensing, massively increased battery performance, ActiveTrack 5.0, a new stacked CMOS sensor (more on this later), and much more. These improvements make it a great choice for just about any user, including newbies. Whether you are a pro pilot, or a beginner, the Air 3 is a great option. It is easy to fly and has a number of features that make it safe. But, and I cannot stress this enough, if you are a beginner, take the time to watch some tutorial videos online and get familiar with the controls and app functions / modes before you even consider taking off for the first time. You may even want to fly a drone simulator to get used to which controller mode you will be using. I have always flown in Mode 2, which is how most drones are set out of the box. This is a great time to remind everyone that the FAA means serious business with flying UAVs, so be sure you are in legal airspace before you fly. I am an FAA certified pilot that has passed rigorous testing, so again, I cannot stress both safety and flying legally enough. I can very highly recommend the app called “AIR CONTROL” to find safe / legal locations and altitudes for flight. Download it on your phone to set up your flights and check airspace before you even leave the house. The Air 3 and all of its omnidirectional safety features will help even the most inexperienced pilot get up and running in no time. This coupled with the Air Control app, should be sufficient to give you peace of mind before taking flight. In my humble opinion, the 70mm optical telephoto lens is the absolute game-changer feature on the Air 3 series. This lens, combined with the wide-angle 24mm equivalent, allows for creative possibilities that I have not been able to express until now. For example, I can now capture sweeping compressed landscapes with ease. The telephoto lens also allows me to get a different perspective (depth) than ever before on numerous subjects, including real estate, and any distant subjects that were previously impossible to capture. This is effective for bringing distant objects closer to the focal point, such as trees or a mountain behind a house. It creates a depth illusion that the trees or mountain are closer to the house by compressing the distance between them. It works well for staying a good distance from subjects while also getting close at the same time. Funny how that sounds, but such is the benefit of using a telephoto lens. Overall, I am incredibly impressed with the Air 3 series and both the 24mm and 70mm optical lenses. It is a truly versatile camera duo that will allow me to take my air photography to the next level. Which leads me to the 12MP stacked sensor. I’m no expert on the subject of sensor technology, but what little I have learned through research suggests that sensor technology is indeed taking the next steps. Newer “stacked sensor” digital cameras are faster and produce results comparable to larger sensors by stacking multiple layers of sensors to perform different tasks, rather than a single layer sensor that has to do everything itself. This ultimately means that even though the Air 3 has a smaller sensor than the previous Air 2s, it is actually more advanced and can produce better images and videos at faster speeds with lower noise and artifacts. Don’t let the fact that the sensor is 12MP deter you. Or the fact that it utilizes a slightly smaller sensor size than the previous version. This is where the stacked sensor comes into play, hence internally creating a 48MP image. In nerdy terms, it is truly mind-blowing developmental magic. A genuine win win in my book. As Kip says, “I love technology.” The DJI RC 2 remote controller is another fantastic item to have, as opposed to using your phone as your monitor. With its 5.5” full HD color display, new O4 video transmission, 700 nit brightness level, and micro SD card slot, you have everything you need to get up and running in seconds without having to find a cable, mount your phone, and fire up the app. The RC 2 remote controller is also really snappy performance wise. It looks super vivid and sharp, and the connection between your drone and wherever you are on the ground is rock solid and glitch free. DJI claims the new O4 video transmission system has a range of over 12 miles. What?! There is absolutely no way I’ll ever be testing that, but that also means your connection should be more stable if you have any obstacles in-between you and the drone while it is in flight. The battery improvement over previous versions is also mind blowing. Boasting up to 46 minutes of flight time on a single battery! They say that is a 48% increase in performance over the Air 2s, and with my tests, I can safely say that this is true and another reason upgrading is worth your consideration. If you opt for the fly more combo, you have over two full hours of flight time at your disposal every time you leave the house. And if that wasn’t enough, the new triple battery hub has a power transfer function that allows you to merge the power from batteries with lower power to a single battery to seemingly get even more time if you need it. Needless to say, with the fly more combo, you should be able to capture all of the shots you need with ease. Is it shocking how drone technology has advanced so quickly? I honestly don’t think it is considering the lofty expectations that drone pilots have. DJI is a very driven, tech-forward company and they listen to their customers to create the tools we all need to get our jobs done professionally. The DJI Fly app is simply awesome. Especially with the RC 2 remote. With several helpful modes at your fingertips at all times, such as MasterShots, Hyperlapse, Waypoints, and several fun Quickshots. You really have a flying camera that is extremely capable of tackling almost anything your imagination can throw at it. If I were to go through every shooting mode that is available to you in detail, we would be literally writing a book for a review. Therefore, I also highly recommend viewing a video tutorial based on using all of these awesome shooting modes. It will enable you to get stunning footage that would otherwise be extremely difficult, or just plain impossible. If I had to lodge one small complaint, it would be that the 24mm lens has a fixed aperture of f/1.7 and the 70mm has an aperture of f/2.8. This can certainly cause an issue with the exposure of both photos and videos, but only if you tap from 24 to 70 and back quite a bit while shooting, which most users will most likely be doing regularly. This can also easily be corrected in post, but thankfully I have seen a dual ND filter set being released that balances this issue out by making the 24mm ND area slightly darker and the 70mm glass slightly lighter. For video in particular, this solves that issue, but still makes me wonder why it was designed this way in the first place. Another thing DJI could have done is to include these dual strength ND filters as standard. I would have happily paid a little bit more to have these out of the box. All in all, I can’t say enough good things about this drone. I have several drones and this one is by far the best one I’ve had yet. The footage is professional looking and the investment for this level of drone is reasonable to me. To summarize all of my previous points and add a few more for good measure. The dual lens setup is inspiring and game changing in aerial flight. The stacked CMOS sensor is excellent in low light and has great dynamic range, especially when shooting in D-Log and color grading in post. The 48MP images look sharp and also have great dynamic range when shooting in RAW+JPEG. The RC2 remote and triple battery charger are both incredible upgrades. It is really quiet compared to all other drones I have owned. It is a tad larger than the previous Air 2s making it feel more substantial and stable in the air. The battery life is phenomenal. The omnidirectional obstacle sensing and advanced return to home “RTH” makes this drone extremely safe to fly. The app has several really fun and creative built in shooting modes to make your footage look more stable and cinematic. As a bonus, all of the modes are very easy to set up and use, once you know how to use them correctly. The list just goes on and on and on. It’s a fantastic, very capable, easy to use, fun drone. It is very user friendly. As a long time drone pilot, I’ll end with one more very important tip. When setting up your drone initially, be sure to opt for the DJI Care Refresh plan. I have had to use it before and it is well worth the price tag for your peace of mind. Especially if you are new to UAVs. Think of it as direct insurance straight from the manufacturer. Well what are you waiting for? It’s all there for you, so go get one and start having some serious fun today!

This drone is absolutely great for the money! I purchased a Mini 4 pro about a week prior to this. Ended up selling the mini to a buddy and kept this! The 3x medium telephoto lens is great. It isn’t the longest zoom but the compression it adds to certain shots is stunning. I highly recommend this drone. Maybe not as a “beginner” drone but only because you can get a cheaper drone if just learning to fly. If using this for content creation or part 107 jobs this is great!
