I do love flying drones for nothing more than taking pictures; FPV was never an interest to me in the beginning. I gave the first DJI Avata a thought but with goggles and whatnot - didn’t seem like something I wanted to get into - but the new Avata 2 (and all the leaks leading up to the release) made it something I was ready to give a whirl and I’m glad I did.
TL;DR for my frequent readers & way more details to follow …
Good:
Get the Fly More Package (with all the goodies)
Size / enclose propellers
Noise
Speed
Goggles + defogger
Motion Controller
Number Customization Options
Battery Life
Acro Mode / tricks
Goggles defogger
Bad:
Goggles-only configuration
Number of Customization Options
Immersed in the flight / oblivious to surroundings
Meh:
Necessary Beginner Mode
As I sit here reflecting on the past week of FPV flying, I can see how it’s so cool for hobbyists, but at the same time - how it could lose its flair after the first week or so, unless you’re always showing it off. With that, means you’re letting people fly this $1000+ unit and hoping nobody hits a wall (literally).
Cinema Mode on the Air 2, Air 2s and Mini 3 Pro from DJI were my common modes; keep it slow and take nice photos and videos. Fast forward to the Avata 2 and beginner mode - man was that boring, but absolutely necessary to get a handle on how to fly thing bad-boy with the motion controller. After two days, I was ready to let it rip out in the open, but even now, I haven’t touched Manual mode because auto-braking is completely necessary for a novice drone flier like me.
You have to wear the goggles (I think), to set all the menus up and that takes time and it gets warm with the goggles on. There are so many menu locations and options that it really takes time to get set up with what you may want. Then, you’ll watch YouTube and realize all of those options were suboptimal compared to what the pros choose. Just like for Radar Detectors (for your car), do some research on the values first, set them, take some runs and see what you think.
OK, onto the usage. Get used to sitting with the goggles on to do a ton of the drone config changes; I really wish I could have done this via the FLY App or the RC controller, but I found nothing that said I could. Add a comment if I’m off base here.
Once it’s ready to fly, it’s so easy to use with the (taboo) motion controller; Pros hate the idea of this controller but I found it to be an easy “in” to the FPV world. It’s not all that noisy compared to other non-FPV drones in the hobbyist line but I could hear it when I was flying around the outside of the house getting a feel for the controls. Yes, the motion controller is and can be overwhelming as a single unit with around 7 different things you need to remember (menu vs flying) how to use & it gets fun when you’re under pressure - like when it says it’s coming back to you.
After my two days in beginner mode, I went to a local baseball field and let it rip - through the outfield, across the base path, near the dugouts and to an adjacent park. Then, to another park where I tried to split some fence posts where I was mostly (minus that one crash) successful and felt like I was in total control the entire time. When you’re flying in heat like in Florida, these goggles will fog up and there’s a defogger fan that is absolutely a fun-saver.
Then, flying around the outside of the house that was protected with Beginner mode in the first few hours of use was like a totally different flight when I could pull the trigger and go from hearing it hover to nothing at all - it’s so fast. When I got into playing with the Acro mode capabilities, I found myself impressed with the tech behind letting it slide and flip around all while keeping altitude and not crashing to the ground.
When in public, in addition to the ‘don’t fly over people’ rule - I felt a bit uneasy having no peripheral vision of what's going on around me; I recommend bringing a friend so you don’t get robbed :)
Do I recommend this to a Pro? Sure - but from what I’m seeing, use some controller. Do I recommend it to a novice? HECK YEAH! Use that motion controller and have fun.
This thing rocks. Recommended!

This review will be directed towards those of you who are not experienced with drones. I had never flown a drone before ordering the Avata 2. I have been interested in them for a few years but have yet to decide and am overwhelmed about which to get. I had heard the original Avata was an excellent starting point, so when the Avata 2 was released, I knew it would be my choice when it arrived. I can't believe how much fun it is to fly. I live in Oregon, so the drone laws were specific. Still, I learned all about them when I had to complete the TRUST (Test Administrator of the Recreational UAS Safety Test) Test. It sounds more complicated than it is. It's great to understand the laws fully because there are a lot of restrictions depending on the state you live in. It can be done online.
After I had that in hand, I decided to take it to an open field I knew wasn't an official park but was open to the public. I didn't want to have my first time around a bunch of trees or powerlines. However, when I got it up in the air, it was much easier maneuvering than I anticipated. I first used the RC Motion controller without the headset to get a feel for what I was doing. If you've ever played a video game, you'll soon get comfortable with controlling. The real fun starts when you use the headset. The DJI Goggles 3 are fantastic! They're a step above the last gen version, so I can't compare apples to apples, but let me tell you, it is so much fun. The 4K picture is impressive, and feeling like you're up there with the drone is a sensation that is very difficult to duplicate with anything else, with or without VR.
You get three batteries with this package, which are needed if you're out and about for long periods. Each battery should last around 45 minutes of flight time. That is plenty, even if you're using it for an event (i.e., a wedding). My brother is a professional photographer; sometimes, I am his second camera or videographer. Being able to use this as part of his package deal is incredible. This will work wonders when wanting those shots from above at weddings. And with those two extra batteries, we can shoot more than enough.
The drone itself is built with quality and toughness in mind. It's a lot lighter in weight than I anticipated. On the other hand, its four-propeller system allows it to deal with wind well. I've never had issues with it, even with the PNW weather during the transition from Winter to Spring.
For everything you get (see photo of the back of the box), the $1200 is an incredible value. You get A LOT of goodies in this package. You won't need to get anything after purchasing this one. Check out some YouTube videos of these in action, and you'll be excited to order one, even if you're new to drones and a little intimidated. Trust me when I say this thing is easy to get the hang of and super fun to fly.

The drone works perfectly. However the battery case had a bad charging port. So I had to directly charge the batteries 1 at a time through the drone. There was ZERO chance that I could return the product or even try at Best Buy as it had been 15 days before I even had time to unbox it. So I put in my ticket with DJI directly and they sent me a shipping label and I sent it to DJI directly. Yesterday.
My only concern is that when I bought my DJI Ozmo 1. It was missing the phone connector tips, no one at the store would help and I had to order them separately on my own. I no trust BEST BUY when it comes to DJI products. It's actually MUCH easier to deal with CHINA directly. Once this drone is paid off... ...like next month I am closing my Best Buy credit account.
Where's BRAD KLINE these days???

I’ve been flying drones for over 10 years now. Every drone I’ve ever flown is a DJI brand, it’s been amazing to see them progress from the Phantom series, to the Mavic’s, and the original FPV to now the Avata series. The Mavic Pro felt like a huge leap forward from the Phantom the same way the Avata 2 feels compared to the original FPV!
Original setup was probably the easiest I’ve ever experienced with a Drone. The Avata 2 comes with propellers already installed so it was ready to go out the box as soon as batteries were charged. At first glance I was blown away by how small the Avata 2 is in size and weight. It’s by far the smallest drone I’ve ever owned but big things come in small packages. The propeller guards around the installed propellers are a nice touch considering this drone can fit into tight spaces. The FPV googles were easy to setup as well. They have adjustable eye lenses for near and far sighted and ability to move them in and out to fit your face. I love that they added the ability to see your surroundings like a Meta Quest by tapping the side of the Googles twice. This allows you to keep the googles on and still move about and view the area you’re in or even do Picture in Picture of both!
The one thing I wasn’t familiar with was the new motion controller, so I used the Academy in DJI fly app and watched instructional videos on the gestures and controls coupled with the DJI Virtual Flight system that allows you to virtually practice the controls I was up and running in no time. Initial flying with the controller was intuitive and easy to use. Certain gestures make it bank or turn sharply and take a little getting used to but overall, I felt right at home with the drone right away. The Avata 2 being so small and compact makes it much nimbler compared to past drones I’ve owned. Putting it in Sport or Manual mode really opens it up and allows you to feel like you’re literally flying and soaring like a bird. The Avata 2 also can-do Acrobatic moves like barrel rolls, flips and 180 drifts which make your footage even more compelling and satisfying to capture. Videos are crystal clear with 4k/60 FPS HDR video with an angle of 155 degrees field of view. Extra features like Horizonsteady which keeps the horizon line stable and Rocksteady to keep the Drone steady in windy and unstable conditions allows the best video recording experience possible. The Avata 2 has 46 gigs of internal storage on the device itself with ability to add more onboard storage with Micro SD cards. With the fly more pack you get 3 batteries which will give you over 26 minutes of fly time per battery and the fast-charging hub delegates power to one battery to charge faster in emergency situations. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve forgotten to charge a battery before a shoot and this feature has already come in handy. One feature that I did not have to use but could come in handy later is “Turtle Mode” which allows you to flip the drone off its back if it becomes stuck. Quick Transfer on the DJI fly app works like a charm and can easily export the video on your iphone in seconds. Footage is easily edited with the LightCut app to use on social media! DJI has left no feature unturned with this drone.
In summary the Avata 2 is the most user friendly, nimble and efficient drone I’ve ever come across. It’s an absolute powerhouse and a joy to fly. I love my Mavic 3 Pro but I can honestly see myself using the Avata 2 much more in the future for all situations and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a compact but highly capable drone.

Taking Flight with the DJI Avata 2

Imagine strapping on a pair of goggles and suddenly, you’re not just flying a drone; you’re soaring. That’s the FPV (First Person View) experience with the DJI Avata 2. It’s like stepping into another world where you’re not just the pilot, you're the drone -- almost feeling every turn and dip as if you were actually flying. The immersive experience is unparalleled, making it feel less like remote flying and more like you’re the drone itself.
The motion 3 adds to this feeling. It’s like having a magic wand in your hands. You tilt it, and the drone tilts; you turn it, and the drone turns. It’s that intuitive. The controls are so smooth flying feels like second nature, almost like the drone is an extension of your body. For beginners, it’s a dream come true, simplifying the learning curve of drone piloting. And the best part? It lets you pull off some neat aerobatic skills without needing to be a pro. Want to do a barrel roll or a drift? Just push a button. It’s that simple. The Motion 3 controller makes flying the Avata 2 not just fun, but downright thrilling. If you’re a Pro? In manual mode the Avata 2 can reach speeds up to 60 mph!
Together, the DJI Avata 2 and the Motion Controller 3 offer a flight experience that’s not just about seeing the world from above, but feeling it too. It’s FPV flying with a personal touch, and it’s absolutely exhilarating
.
The Avata 2 is equipped with an Obstacle Sensing System which tracks objects below and behind so whether you’re zipping through a forest or chasing sunsets, it’ll help keep you out of trouble. The Fly More Combo comes with three batteries, each good for about 23 minutes of flight, and has a range of 8 miles.
The camera has a 1/1.3-inch image sensor, meaning your shots will be detailed and sharp. Whether you’re vlogging, documenting road trips, or just showing off your neighborhood, this camera’s quality will do well. Keep in mind though that the Avata 2 is all about that FPV experience. It’s not chasing cinematic perfection; it’s chasing adrenaline. So if you primary reason for getting a drone is for shooting video, there are better drones out there for that. If you’re into fast-paced, heart-pounding flying, I don’t know if there more suited drone out there, particularly for first timers or novices. Traditional FPV fans might raise an eyebrow—it’s a bit different from the usual—but hey, different is good sometimes.

first thing I can say about avata 2 is wow I love this! this probably the most user friendly drone i’ve ever flew had drone before and this the first time i’ve ever tried a FPV drone. I got the fly morecombo. comes with total 3 batteries the design and the other extras inside the bag. the drone design looks great i’ve seen Avata 1 and avata 2 is far more attractive as a drone that’s much wider design. I love how easy you can switch the batteries it’s almost like inserting a new magazine. it’s well secured pitch on both side and pull it towards you and that’s it. the drone can shoot 4k 60 with HDR. SD placement on the drone was simple. I bought a great 64GB high upload speed. I have about 120hrs space of recording is more than enough for me.
The dji google 3 surprise me how easy it was to used. i’m very familiar with googles i’ve had VR googles and the DJI did not cause any issue but provided some great comfort while using it. the looks is awesome the color I love the two tone grey and black. I love the pass through feature for the google having the ability to see where you at in real time was great not worrying about removing the headset just to see what’s around you. another cool feature I like with the google is the picture by picture I can see the feed from the drone on smaller scale while viewing the real world at the same time. fly time I get about 15 minutes with 1 battery run, I did set it to sport mode so it’s probably a lot harder on run time.
I thought using the motion controller was also simple. I can deff say this is a great drone for beginners, the basic hand motion is easy to learn you can literally have a perfect run since the motion control works so well that it came natural within minutes of flying. the easy acro mode was awesome I had a kid ask me it it can do flips and I activate in no time and show all the trick it can do with a simple turn, honestly one of the best features in this drone! if you’re looking for a drone i’d highly recommended this to beginners and season flying avata 2 is fun and packs some great features to use. flying with great motion and it’s steady as well. the new dji google is awesome and im glad its bundled with this product.

The excitement of having this drone was at a 100 and I’m still super excited to continue enjoying it. I have the DJI Mavic 3 and since I love it so much, I wanted to try the Avata version for a different experience.
I consider myself a good drone pilot but flying a drone with goggles made me nervous and the motion sensor controller just heightened the feeling. I wanted to be safe and definitely wanted to experience it so I went to an open field with no people around to test it out.
I was surprised at how light it felt and smaller than I was expecting which is a good thing for me.
Goggles are very comfortable and I was able to make different adjustments to improve my comfort. If I have a friend or family member that have corrective glasses, they can make adjustments to help with vision clarity with this goggle 3. My goggles do not look bulky or goofy and I can see my surroundings with the pass through cameras.
I like that I can have someone use my phone to view what I’m experiencing through the goggle 3.
The motion control is easier than I thought it would be. I do not recommend that Avata 2 owners let inexperienced drone pilots take this for a ride because that would be irresponsible. Controls were quick to learn because it reminded me of a meta quest or a Wii controller. Honestly I’m not a big fan of a wand style controller. I decided that I’m better with an actual 2 hands controller. I’ll be getting the FPV remote controller 3 when it’s back in stock because this is compatible with the Avata 2.
Please watch the tutorial videos because it’s informative and will be more useful for beginners. I watched them because this is my first FPV drone and it was a learning curve from Mavic 3.
Avata 2 is not too loud but you can definitely hear it. I think it’s reasonable for a small drone.
Camera is pretty good and it will do just fine capturing my flight experiences. I think this will be my go to drone for fun since it is more durable than most drones and it goes really fast in sport mode. The quick stunts are also a nice touch.
I like the Avata 2 and the more comfortable I get with it makes it more enjoyable. Battery life is about 20 minutes each battery. I have the fly more bundle which gives me about an hour of fly time which is plenty for a day.
I will be using this in my drone rotation to keep things fresh. I think overall it’s a great value for what I get and able to do with it.

The DJI Avata was a huge hit among drone lovers and people who wanted to get into that world. The sequel to that awesome drone if the DJI Avata 2 and it has been a huge hit thus far!
PROS:
- Unboxing DJI did a fantastic job because everything is already nicely packaged in the carrying case it comes in! Which is awesome and makes for an easy setup. The drone itself is really nice, they did some nice design upgrades to the Avata 2 and made it slightly bigger while also being slightly lighter.
- The camera upgrades are awesome as well! Nice sensors and can record 4K at 60FPS which is fantastic for content creators or just viewing back what you recorded. Of course the cameras are also super nice when using the headset which is comfortable and a lot of fun using.
- The flight time has a bump in battery compared to the last model which lets you fly it for over 20 minutes straight, of course the nice thing is this comes with 3 batteries which means over an hour of fly time with your pouch!
- The controls are also really nice and easy to use. The drone cuts quickly and has lots of precision while being able to do flips and some of your fun moves like that.
- I really think the accessories are a great value too with having 3 batteries, a charging hub, extra propellers, and other features to make sure you can do repairs if needed.
CONS:
- None I can think of, this is the complete package!
BOTTOM LINE:
- You want to get into the world of drones or upgrade your current setup, the Avata 2 is the choice to make! The drone flies perfectly with exceptional controls, headset, and crystal clear camera controls as well. It comes with a lot of accessories which make for a great value and it's so much fun to use. I see people using this in so many possible ways that it will end up being a great purchase!

First time flying a drone, ever. This thing is absolutely amazing. If you've thought about getting a drone, worried it would be complicated, and would annoy your neighbors; this is the solution. It is surprisingly quiet, lawn mowers make far more noise. DJI has a fantastic set of videos to walk you through use - "A Beginner's Guide to DJI Avata 2".
Everything you need is included in this kit, except a cell phone and a high powered USB-C power adapter (both required). Initial setup is daunting at first. Weird button presses, strange noises, and weird prompts. Never fear, the drone won't start flying on its own - work through the goggle tutorials, and the firmware update. If you wear glasses, everything about the goggles is a pain, you can't wear them at the same time. And switching between app / video / goggle instructions, glasses keep coming off and on.
Beginner mode is really slow - you only need about 20 square yards of open space. For my first flight, I didn't wear the goggles, I wanted to see the drone fly. After a few flights, yeah the googles are super cool. Incredibly clear view.
Recorded video is gorgeous. With a little practice, it would be easy to record super smooth beautiful video. There's no gimbal jerk when switching between flight movement and camera movement.
Buy this thing. It is truly amazing and fun to fly.
To charge all the batteries in this thing requires a super high powered USB-C adapter - 65W would be the smallest (meaning, the small wall wart adapters will not be up to the job). An adapter for a laptop is sufficient.
The drone has internal storage for video. It uses MicroSD cards in the drone and optionally in the goggles. They need to be relatively fast cards - V30, and UHS-I. Fortunately they are reasonably priced.

If you're already set on buying the Avata2, then THIS is the combo you want. The one with one battery will just leave you frustrated as the flights aren't very long and you might want to charge while you fly.
The Goggles3 are excellent, and they work with the Mini4Pro, and the Air3, complete with head-tracking.
The included Motion Controller is meh. It's probably okay if this is your first time flying anything, but it's very limiting for a more rollercoaster FPV acrobatic experience. And really, you're buying the Avata2 because you want THAT, otherwise you'd get the Mini4Pro.
If you want a camera on a flying tripod, crash-proof, quieter, stable in the air, easy to fly -- get the Mini4Pro. If you want to fly FPV action with some thrill and risk -- get this kit and add the stick controller. Too bad that isn't a kit option.

The Avata 2 is here and DJI has fixed many of the issues with the first generation Avata while adding new features that benefit experienced pilots as well as those new to cinewhoops. Like the original Avata, the Avata 2 is a 3” cinewhoop design which means it is designed for cinematic FPV video with 3” props with ducts or prop guards to improve flight safety and durability.
The Fly More Combo bundles the Avata 2, Goggles 3, RC Motion 3, 3 x Flight Batteries, 2-way charging hub, spare set of props, pair of -2.00 D Lens, OTG cable, and a short USB C cable. For most, this combo is a great value and provides practically everything you need to start flying. DJI did omit an actual USB C charger but I imagine many have at least one USB C charger available, if not you will need to purchase one to charge the batteries, goggles, and RC. The included charging hub is a nice addition as it charges three batteries (sequentially), has a 2-way power share to function like a power bank, and the best part is the power accumulation mode. Using this mode you can take 2 or 3 low power state batteries and use this to accumulate power to one battery without need to plug in. This is great when out, forgetting to top off charge and you don’t have access to a charger.
After registering (weighs 377g, Remote ID compliant) and charging everything, I was ready to go on my first flight with the Avata 2. The first thing I noticed was how comfortable the Goggles 3 are over the previous design. The Goggles 3 now utilize a halo design, with the pressure mainly on your forehead instead of the bridge of your nose, the difference is night and day in terms of comfort. In addition, the Goggles 3 have an integrated battery design, similar to the Integra Goggles that were released after the original Avata. The Goggles 3 are also standalone, meaning you can fly the drone without your phone connected which is appreciated. The Goggles 3, like the Avata 2, support the latest O4 transmission, providing lower latency, improved throughput, and increased range. Inside the goggles, the Micro-OLED screens are sharp and clear after dialing in my adjustments with the new +2.00D to -6.00D diopter lens. If you need further accommodation DJI does include -2.00 D lens, though my prescription was within range. The FOV in Goggles could still be better relative to VR headsets, it is good for the FPV space. Also new is the ability to activate passthrough, though I found tapping to require more force than I expected and the external cameras FOV are very narrow and somewhat grainy.
While the original Avata was fun to fly with Motion RC, you were limited in your ability to control the drone. The RC Motion 3 has significantly improved upon the original motion RC adding new controls. The redesigned trigger allows reverse while the addition of the joystick enables control of elevation and horizontal movement of the drone while using the gyro function. These additions make flying it far more accurate and enjoyable. While a seasoned pilot would prefer a traditional RC such as the new but not included FPV Controller 3, the RC Motion 3 is easy for anyone to pick up and start flying while providing a truly unique experience to flying FPV. Another addition is the acro dial, which can be used to convert the joystick into acro “controls” to initiate automated maneuvers. Though these are great for newcomers, they are limited in their finesse and can only be performed in normal mode.
The original Avata had a few prominent issues for me; the SD card location inside the prop guard, it was a bit top heavy with the battery mounted above the pusher design props, and the aforementioned battery desired to be free from restrictions of the airframe, ejecting itself after a crash when possible. DJI addressed these issues and more on the new Avata 2. Thankfully, DJI upped the onboard storage to a very useable 46GB plus enabling quick transfer, allowing you to wirelessly transfer videos without needing to pull the SD card or plug in the drone. In addition, the SD card and USB port have been moved out of the ducts and on the side of the air frame, easily accessible. DJI refined the Avata 2 further with a new puller design, spacing the motors out slightly and positioning the battery in between the props instead of on top. DJI also redesigned the battery, with the connection interfacing inside the airframe similar to a Mavic or Mini, and improved clips making it far easier to install or remove the battery while providing secure retention. I have had a few crashes and so far not only has the Avata 2 faired well but I have yet to experience a battery ejection. The battery life has also been improved, with up to 23 minutes of flight time. I average 15 minutes per battery but that is usually in sport mode with fairly aggressive flying. . DJI also added additional position sensors in the rear, which improves stability and position hold making it so the Avata doesn’t float around as much. The new camera system has improved performance with a 1/1.3″ sensor capable of 12MP stills and 4K60 HDR video (EIS off). The Avata 2 shoots great footage, with a variety of shooting modes and full camera control. The new gimbal design has increased range while also not getting the ducts in the shot while looking down. HDR is also limited to certain modes but I did not see where to enable while shooting 4K30, it is possible DJI will make tweaks to their software to improve discoverability or I just missed it.
Most importantly flying the Avata 2 is a blast, it is currently my favorite to fly even though I don’t have the FPV controller 3 yet. The improvements and refinements make this one of the best ready to fly cinewhoop drones not just for someone familiar with Mavics, but anyone interested in cinematic FPV flying. Once you outgrow the motion RC, you can even move up to the FPV controller and hone your skills further. Unfortunately DJI is in limbo with talks of banning even their consumer products at the time of this review due to national security concerns, but hopefully legislators carve out provisions for the drone community as DJI has a unique offering for fans and those new to FPV alike. The Avata 2 provides such a great experience that it is hard to not recommend. It is easily one of the most beginner friendly FPV drones on the market, with the Fly More combo being the best value.

TLDR - The Avata 2 is a whole new thing for this “normal” DJI drone user. Coming from a Mini 2, and currently also have a Mini 3 Pro, the FPV is taking some getting used to, but I was getting shots I would have never even tried to get with either of my old units within my 2nd flight. FPV mode REALLY lets you see where the drone is heading and what it's seeing to frame stuff up, all while being an absolute blast! (If you’re an FPV drone enthusiast,do yourself a favor and at least start with the FPV Remote Controller 3, but if you’re a normal drone user or new drone user, the motion controller will get it done for you!)
Pro’s - It’s fast/way more responsive than the fastest mode with my mini 3 pro, and I haven’t even been able to test manual mode yet. (did order the controller!) The video is quite good, seems to be the same sensor as my mini 3 pro, so 4K stuff looks stellar. It’s easy to fly for this millennial, even with my faded hand/eye coordination vs my teens into my early 20s. (The motion controller is way better/easier to use than something like a Wii-mote) The size is smaller than expected originally; my Mini 3 Pro has a larger footprint when opened/unfolded. The included case is very nice, I had the DJI case for both my Mini 2 and the mini 3 pro case, and this one seems even higher end, and obviously larger. Having built in memory is always a plus (and decently sizable at that), as I have been out to take some shots and forgotten my microSD in my laptop at home, but now I usually have a couple extras anyways. The headset is very customizable and comfortable. I have an extra large head, and I can still fit it, albeit right near the max of its adjustability. The diopter adjustment and pad angle really allow for a large range of head sizes and shapes to be accommodated as well. I really like the fact that it has a fan built in for condensation, considering I am an extremely sweaty person, and turning up the setting for higher fan speed really does move enough air to keep your sight clear. (your forehead still may be adhered to the top pad, but that's to be expected) The screen/view in the headset is quite good, plenty bright, and easy to navigate using the motion controller.
Con’s - not the worst con, but the battery life isn’t the best, I’m seeing/expecting usually about 15ish minutes per battery if recording and moving the entire time. My experience has only been limited to sport though, and normal may give you a couple extra minutes, and manual will most definitely drop that time considerably. The headset isn’t the most comfortable for me personally, but it’s fine for the time that the batteries last. Having to plug my phone into the headset is a pain, I wish it could all be done over wifi/hotspot. The top bundled kit should come with the FPV Controller 3 imo. (I don’t fault them for locking manual mode to only that controller though, as it seems to be an easy way for a beginner to wreck their drone)

The dji Avata 2 is a FVP built for reality and fun. I am still pretty much a beginner when it comes to camera drones and really liked how the dji app took me through the process of regulations, requirements, setup and into the beginner training videos. The app introduced me to The Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST) program which I went through in under 30 minutes and passed a series of quizzes to receive a Completion Certificate. The course educated me on the basis regulations of flying drones. I saved this certificate on my phone in case I am ever asked for it while out flying the Drone.
I followed the tutorials on unboxing the drone and setting it up. This bundle “Fly More Combo (three batteries)” consists of a nice Aircraft with an onboard camera, dji Goggles 3, a RC Motion 3 controller, three (3) Flight Batteries with a Charging Hub, and a Sling Bag for carrying and storing the Drone equipment. It also came with a few extras which includes four (4) replacement Spare Propellers, a Screwdriver Wrench, a Lanyard for the Controller, Corrective Lenses, a Forehead Pad if needed to hold the Goggles out from the face, a couple of essential cables, and a manual.
The dji Goggles 3, the RC Motion 3 Controller, and the battery hub with all three batteries needed to be fully charged which took more than three (3) hours, but since I left it charging, I am not sure of the exact number of hours that it actually took for all items to reach fully charged capacity. After the batteries in all components were charged, I powered each of the devices on and paired them with the Aircraft in a sequence of first the dji Goggles 3 and then the RC Motion 3 controller. Through the app I was able to update all firmware. Next the videos took me through the steps of calibrating the Drone and then I watched a couple of videos for beginners before taking off.
The Aircraft started smoothly and was noticeably quiet. The dji Goggles 3 allow for a complete 150-degree view of what the Aircraft sees. In many respects this simulates the actual feel of flying. The clarity of the camera’s video is surprisingly really good. There is 46 GB of memory storage on board for .jpg and videos, and a slot for either a Micro SDHC or SDXC. A feature that I really like about the dji Goggles 3 is the ability to go to setting on the Display and enable PIP. I feel much more comfortable with this setting because it allows me to see what the Aircraft sees and simultaneously what is in my own field of vision.
At first, I stayed low to the ground as I tried to get accustomed to using the RC Motion 3 controller. I played with my West Highland Terriers by hovering over their play area and moving up and down. I was impressed by the Aircraft’s ability to stay constant while hovering and extremely impressed by the smooth landing it makes and how after landing, the Aircraft immediately shuts itself off. I am going to need much practice with the Motion3 controller because I continue to find it hard to maintain smooth control of the Aircraft, and consequently this results in the video being shaky and of mediocre quality. I know that this Drone is capable of much better because it is equipped with a 12-megapixel 4K video frame rate camera of 2160p @ 60 FPS whose clarity is good. There is an additional accessory that does not come in this bundle that I am going to end up purchasing. The DJI FVP Remote Controller 3, which retails at $199, would give me the control of the Aircraft that I really want for the video results that I would like to produce.
After practicing with the Motion 3 controller and becoming more versed in using it to control the Aircraft, I moved up and out but kept the Drone within my visual sight. Using the dji Goggles 3, I was able to see in real time as if I were above taking the video of parts of the farm next door and the surrounding neighborhood. Each battery lasts just a little under 30 minutes so after 22-24 minutes I made sure to bring the Aircraft back. The Drone is equipped with a couple of precautionary features to help save it if it becomes lost. The Return Home feature is reassuring to some degree if the Aircraft does not have a crash, or its battery does not run down before it is asked to Return Home. The other notable feature is Find My Drone which is based on GPS location. I really like the stability of this Aircraft because the propellers are more protected than on other designs in that the body of the Aircraft is structurally built around each propeller.
The Drone has a one (1) year warranty. DJI offers a 1-year Care Refresh Plan and a 2-year Care Refresh Plan which do cover a set number of replacements in the event of a crash or lost drone. The 1-year Care Refresh Plan is also renewable up to an additional year. I think that both plans are reasonably priced at $59 and $99 and not a bad investment if the Drone is going to be used much at all. The company gives a window of us to 48 hours after activating the drone for purchase.
I most definitely give the dji Avata 2 four (4) stars. I would give it five (5) stars for sure if the Motion 3 controller allowed for more precise control of the Aircraft. I just find it hard to have control of the Aircraft and maneuver it where you want it to go with the Motion 3 controller and feel that a better controller should have been included in this otherwise great bundle.

This is so much better than the first Avata!
A1. Less noise! My ears can't thank DJI enough!
1. Better image quality - you can see details in the shadows
2. The SD card and USB port are actually accessible.
3. Longer flight time.
4. Better battery design and removal of the battery wobbly bits.
5. Morse stability.
6. Looks cooler.
7. Goggles are improved- less light leaks, gimmicks aside(PIP).
8. Joystick is better, but still is useless to me.
9. The included case is a plus for once.
10. Increased video memory, like doubled - for when you forget your SD card.
Cons
1. Less durable.
2. Not self-repairable
3. Goggles are kinda gimicky.
4. Can't buy extra batteries, yet.
5. The garbage joystick is included when you really want a normal controller.

Easy to use out of the box. Definitely need multiple batteries because you are going to want to fly this a lot. The motion controller is a lot easier to use than I thought. It goes exactly where you point it to. After an hour of practice, I was able to fly in pretty tight spaces. Camera is best for shooting action videos. This isn't for taking nice pics. Also used this drone to find my dog. Works great for that. Range isn't as good as they advertise but still good. The headset works really good and fits a variety of head sized.

A Thrilling New Perspective: A Long-Term Review of the DJI Avata 2
After spending over a year with the DJI Avata 2 since its launch in April 2024, it has not only earned a permanent spot in my collection of DJI drones but has fundamentally reshaped my passion for flight. For both seasoned pilots and those curious about the immersive world of First-Person View (FPV), the Avata 2 stands out as a phenomenal piece of technology that masterfully blends performance, safety, and user-friendliness.
An Unparalleled FPV Experience
Coming from a background of more traditional DJI drones, the Avata 2 was a revelation. It has made the exhilarating experience of FPV flying more accessible and intuitive than ever before. The redesigned headset is a significant upgrade over its predecessor, offering a comfortable fit and a crystal-clear view that truly makes you feel like you are soaring through the skies. Paired with the new motion controller, the learning curve for mastering dynamic aerial maneuvers is surprisingly gentle.
One of the most impressive aspects of the Avata 2 is its 'easy acro' mode. This feature is a game-changer for newcomers to FPV, enabling you to execute impressive flips and rolls with remarkable ease and confidence. It’s a perfect training ground before progressing to full manual control, ensuring that the thrill of FPV is not gated by a steep and often intimidating learning process.
Stunning Visuals and Rock-Solid Durability
The image quality produced by the Avata 2's camera is nothing short of stunning. The vibrant colors and sharp details bring a new level of immersion to every flight, capturing breathtaking footage that was once the exclusive domain of professional FPV pilots with custom-built rigs.
Beyond the visuals, the drone's durability has been a standout feature. The integrated propeller guards are a testament to DJI's thoughtful design, providing a robust shield against the inevitable bumps and scrapes that come with ambitious flying. This built-in protection has saved my Avata 2 from countless potential mishaps, allowing me to fly with a greater sense of freedom and confidence.
Flight Time and Final Thoughts
While the flight time of the Avata 2 is, as expected for an FPV drone, shorter than that of its more traditional counterparts like the Mavic series, the sheer adrenaline and joy of every moment in the air more than compensate for it. The immersive experience is so captivating that the shorter flight duration becomes a minor consideration.
In conclusion, the DJI Avata 2 is an outstanding drone that I wholeheartedly recommend. It has successfully bridged the gap between professional FPV setups and consumer-friendly drones, offering an accessible yet powerful package. Whether you are an experienced FPV enthusiast looking for a reliable and high-quality addition to your fleet or a complete beginner eager to experience the world from a new perspective, the Avata 2 is an exceptional choice that is sure to impress.
