Yes this is a very good camera. I am sure you already know some of the biggest highlights with this camera is the battery life and fast charging. This camera has the best mounting system on the market and between this camera coming with fast charging batteries and having three batteries with this kit, you guys will be in for hours of recording treats. *provided you buy the proper memory cards and record in resolutions applicable to the assignment.
Speaking of assignment, I have a few videos on this camera as well as the insta260 X3/One RS 1" cams on YouTube 'Jonasegway'. I mention this because that is how you guys can reach me for any questions on these cameras. I keep these cameras on me 90% of the time so if you have a question, I am likely able to answer them almost on site as this is just what I do.
There are a good number of accessories that will make using this camera a ton of fun so if you don't see enough links to accessories in the description of my vids on this camera, ask away and I got you.
When it comes to comparing this camera to the Action 4, Id you have the $$ I am going to recommend you get the Action 4 because of the extra capabilities. If you fancy Telemetry data, the Action 4 with DJI's GPS remote will make your nervous system tickle! This Action 3 doesn't do very well in high speed low light conditions at all (low light being 15+mph). You might be able to get useful footage out of it if you use a gumball and turn image stabilization OFF. This is where the Action 4 comes I to play as a batter low light camera. If low light recording isnt something you care for, get this kit!
If you go to DJI's website and look for their "apps", you'll find the 'DJI MIMO" app. This app will prompt you on how to connect your phone/tablet/laptop or computer to your camera to download your videos. Alternatively you could download the videos manually but that will take some knowledge on how to find the files when connected directly to your editing device and pasting the videos onto this said device.
Best memory cards are going to be the memory cards on the DJI website ORR the black and red Scandisk Extreme PRO 256GB (is what I use) memory cards. This card could also be purchased here in Best buy for those looking for convenience. Id you aren't familiar with cameras, I usually Motovlog in 1080 24fps in low light and 30fps otherwise. Most people dont watch social media videos in 350p resolution due to a lack of bandwidth , so don't get too caught up in recording in the highest resolution. Also not to mention 1080 allows you to record alooot of footage due to it not taking up much memory card space.
2.7k30fps if I am vlogging and 4k rarely....if I am trying to record a short but high quality video, I would record in 4k, but I rarely record in 4k because most people just don't watch our videos in 4k. This is my way of recording, you can use it as a guideline or do as you will.

Out of box needed a firmware update and the update was completed without any issues.
Out of box exposure and dynamic range issues in Pro and non Pro modes.
Out of box, focus issues.
Out of box, subpar video quality.
User settings and functions are easy to understand and use.
Image stabilization (Rock Steady) works nice but pixelates an already subpar image quality
Unit purchased will be returned, without exchange.

Theres a lot of mixed reviews. From out of the box the draw back were 1) would get a bit warm and 2) the video wuality wasnt as what i thought it would be. However, after charging the battery in the mobile charging case and updating firmware, the canera has been great. Ive donr some day and night use and im still inbetween. The benefits for this particual package are the amount of items you ger in this kit versus piecing items together. The DJI action works well woth go pro accessories and the quick magnet connect is super helpful. Was able to wuickly switch mounts on the go. Touch avreen front and back are very responsive in wet and dry conditions. 3x the battery is helpful. Day settings are great, night time lapse manial settings are great. I would recommend this product but id think if you want a tried and true product you nmight want the go pro 11

Just after I picked up this DJI Osmo Action 3 Adventure Combo, I also acquired the just released Hero11 Creator Edition. I’ll try to make this about the Action3 but will let you know how it compares to the Hero11. The Action3 is lighter at 5.11oz vs 5.47oz (w/battery and microSD card installed). The physical width and thickness of the two are nearly identical, the Action3 is about ¼” shorter. The Hero11 has a new fold up/drop down mounting fingers. The Action3 has a strong magnetic clip on unit with mounting fingers. If you have more than one of the magnetic clips on you can move the camera without unscrewing anything (The Adventure Combo comes with 2). This is a big improvement in design, I really appreciate how quickly I can change shots/angles/mounts; latterly seconds versus minutes with the Hero system. A big win for DJI, I enjoyed this feature far more than I thought I would. DJI adventure combo came with a mounting stick that extends to 52”, that has a std tripod mount on the end, so on top of my tripod the camera would be over 10’ high (nice). The Hero11 Creator came with the 9” Volta grip/tripod (with tripod mount on the end). This grip has an internal battery that adds nearly 6 hours of battery life, nice if I’m shooting time lapse overnight, and it also can keep the camera from overheating. Nothing prevents this stick from being used with the Action3 (which is one reason I got both). Both sticks have their advantages, depending on how you plan to use the camera. I frequently like a selfie stick at 2-3’ and with both cameras’ steady mode it’s a great combination. DJI’s solution to increased shooting time is the provision of 3 batteries and the battery's charging case can be used as a power pack to provide up to 8 hours of shooting time. So, if swapping batteries is undesirable just plug the battery pack into the camera. Both good solutions. The Action3 battery is 1770mAh and the Hero11 is 1720mAh. Call it a wash, and of course they are not interchangeable. Action3 iPhone software, called Mimo, allows you to completely control the camera remotely with a very fast interface. Hero11 offers their Quik app, which offers equally as good remote interfaces (although some pro features have to be set up on the camera, where every Action3 feature can be accessed from the app). The Mimo app is constantly promoting GoPro cloud functionality ($49/yr), but you get truly unlimited storage (if you maintain the subscription) and the camera will auto upload any new photos/videos when charging. Depending how much video you shoot, and how/where you edit this might make sense, it is convenient.
Speaking of shooting; both cameras require state of the art microSD cards in order to capture 4K or higher, especially at higher frame rates. I used a Samsung Pro Plus, a SanDisk Extreme Pro and a PNY Elite Pro with great results on both cameras. With either a SanDisk Ultra or the original Samsung EVO I had problems with the 4K output filming slow motion. So, look for a microSDXC card with specs like: 100MB/s, Class 10, U3, V30, A2. Both cameras can handle cards up to 512GB, I’d suggest sticking with 64, 128 or 256GB cards or where you find you get the better bang for the buck.
The Action3 has a 4k x 3k (12MP) imaging chip (1/1.7”), the Hero 11 has a larger 8:7 chip 1/1.9” 27MP imaging chip. Allowing 5.3K video and the ability to change the output format after shooting. So, you capture nearly a square and decide if you want to output 4:3, 3:4, 16:9 or 9:16. On the Action3 you have to set this before shooting, I don’t see this as a big deal, I usually know what/where my output will be used. The raw size of Hero11 videos is more than double that of the Action3. So you will probably want to choose you default output format before uploading. The Hero can capture 8x slow-mo in 4K, the Action3 can capture 8x slo-mo in HD, and 4x in 4K. Where I found the biggest difference is the ability to capture a still photo from saved video. Here the Hero11 quality was clearly evident, Action3 captures were much softer, probably due to the huge difference in the native resolution. In the video output in bright light the two were pretty comparable. In low light Hero3 had a noticeable advantage, having much less pixelation. Both had a tendency to punch up the brighter portions of dark images. The blacks of the Hero11 were much inkier (is that a word) than the Action3. And the colors in the Hero11, with 10 bit color capture enabled are much richer, not just like increasing contrast, but like there is greater detail. DJI has announced that there will be a firmware update of the Action3 to add 10 bit color depth, by the end of this year. Their reputation of keeping the product up to date is pretty good. I suspect there are a number of things coming to improve this camera. As far as stabilization goes, Action3s RockSteady impressed the heck out of me, it’s as good as anything I'd seen in an ActionCam without post processing… Until I used the new HyperSmooth 5.0 in the Hero11 and toyed with their Horizon Lock, both another step ahead.
With 4K/60fps capture the Action3’s battery life is about 150-160m where the Hero11 is about 120-130m; about 20% better. Both cameras have fixed focus lenses with a minimum distance of 13-15”. The Action3 the field of view is 155 degrees, the FOV on the Hero11 can be adjusted digitally from 155-141 degrees. Both have a 4x Digital zoom, but the Hero11 with its increased sensor density does this much better than the Action3, especially at the full 4x length. I wish both offered a true macro capability. Both cameras offer an Auto ISO and Auto White balance that work very well, but can be set to specific values for special circumstances.
Now my biggest knock on both cameras, they run hot. I live in Phoenix, and I tried shooting a slow motion 4K pool video in full sun when it was over 100 degrees. The Hero11 gave me a “CAMERA TO HOT” message after about 5m of shooting. And the Action3 just powered down somewhere after capturing +7min. This did not surprise me with either, my iPhone, just sitting in the sun for 10m can say "Over Temp".
The Action3 is a great little camera, but the day after it launched the big kid on the block launched their best camera ever. But what GoPro really wants to do is to hook you on their cloud, and you’ll get a better deal if you subscribe, but then they have you, especially if you upload a lot of videos. Unlimited space, at what they currently charge, has gotten harder and harder to find. But the magnetic camera grip on the Action3 is a very attractive feature, I love it. In bright light with Rocksteady enabled the camera is every bit as good as a Hero10 was. In very low light it needs some improvement, but that could be delivered with a future firmware update. I have to add that I had a problem getting their battery case to charge, I tried multiple chargers, multiple cables. One worked most of the time. I contacted their support and a replacement is on the way, they handled the situation well.
So, what would I get if I was only getting one, it would probably depend on the cost. If it was the same price, I’d get the Hero11. But if it were a lot more, the decision is much harder, and with GoPro pushing their subscription I’d have to factor that into the total cost. Both are better than anything that existed a year ago.

I've been using the DJI Osmo Action 3 camera with Adventure Combo for the past week, so far it's been horseback riding, hiking, ATV off-roading, and on a cross country run. Initial impression is that it holds up well, has more features than I'll likely ever use, photo quality is decent with some variability, the mounting options are secure, and the only thing I haven't been able to test out yet is the scuba diving mode.
In the box is the camera, three batteries, battery charging case, usb-c charger, camera frame protector, two lens protectors, selfie stick, two quick release adaptor mounts, and an adhesive base mount. This Osmo Action 3 camera is waterproof up to 52' and boasts 12mp resolution, up to 4K video recording, 300 mm focal length, 16:9 aspect ratio and up to 240 fps in optimal conditions. The camera can be connected using either bluetooth or wifi, and utilizes the DJI app for editing and playback.
Out of the box, setup of the camera is straight forward, with attaching the protectors, charging batteries, and mounting a high speed microSD card (not included, for this review I'm using a microSD rated up to 190MB/s read and 130 MB/s write which allows for 4k video). It gets a bit more convoluted when it comes to scanning the QR code to download the app. After a few attempts I was finally about to download the DJI Mimo app on my Android , note, after the fact I figured out I could search for "Osmo 3" and could find the link straight to the download page without any issues.
The DJI app has some unique functionality. First the app can be used to directly pair with the camera, so you can view the camera footage directly to the phone, as well as control the camera via the app and/or livestream, this also applies to changing camera settings: set the camera mode, adjust ISO, shutter, EV, timer, FOV (standard / wide) toggle gridlines on/off, white balance, turn on overexposure notice, and show histogram. In addition you can edit the general settings such as format SD card, turn on voice controls, edit compression, wifi settings, and adjust anti-flicker. The downside to the app is that it feels like an attempt at DJI social media with constantly streaming adds for other DJI products, a "for you" section with video content from content creators, an entire section dedicated to Osmo Mobile 6, another one for DJI pocket. Overall I am not a fan of the mobile app user interface. There is also an AI editor, with numerous editing features and filters, but I prefer to work with other photo editing software versus being forced to work inside the app.
Moving on, the camera is well built, light weight, and compact at approximately 3"x2"x1". Due to protrusion of the front lens beyond the body, I have some mild concerns that I'll scratch it in transit, but so far that hasn't happened. There is a touch screen on both the front and back, both are easy to operate and quick to respond. Battery life is fantastic for all day photos, and lasts at least an hour of continuous videoing. This is enhanced by having 3 batteries and a charging case that will simultaneously charge them all. The mount with side clips seems sturdy enough to keep the camera securely in place no matter the terrain. The included selfie stick extends just over 4', and the voice feature allows you to control the camera remotely. Ultimately lots of different mounting and placement options for any type of content you are trying to capture. My personal preference is a helmet mount, which is sold separately, but is by far the best viewing angle for both riding horses and atvs.
As far as photo quality, it was a bit trial and error to figure out what settings yielded a crisp high resolution photo consistently. I did have some blurry photos, where I'm not sure I know what went wrong, but overall, after experimenting with the settings for each type of event (moving close up, still close up, moving far away, and still far away) I was able to dial in the settings and timing to take the crisp high res photos I expected. The horizon leveling and RockSteady features work better than expected and are essential for cross country riding. Overall, the camera seems to be able to go anywhere, do anything, and return vibrant images and videos.

This Osmo Action Camera 3 Adventure is made for adventure, action and a whole lot more. First of all I will say that the camera itself and the accessories are all made solid, with great fittings and materials. The only things I didn’t like about the accessories is that the stand isn’t taller with adjusting legs or a short tripod like stand. Other than that, the accessories are great. I love the fact that it comes with 3 batteries, battery case and charger combo.
The camera is great and very easy to use, for the most part. It has an annoying application that you must install to activate the camera. It gives you 5 tries and then I don’t know what would happen. Mine activated on my iPhone 14 Pro the very first try. To use the camera you need download the app, install a memory card, and do a firmware update. That was easy enough to not be a hassle for me, but for someone that has never done this before, it might be a headache. The ease of use is great. If you have ever operated a camera, be it a point and shoot or a video camera, this is a piece of cake. If you aren’t familiar with things like image stabilization, not to worry, this camera has built in image stabilization. It has touchscreen on the front for selfies, and for streaming where you can see yourself, and has a touchscreen on the back as well. The image quality is really good most of the time. I did have a few issues with getting it to focus sometimes, but at first I wasn’t sure if it was the camera or my eyesight. I finally got someone else to take a look, and it was indeed the camera. It didn’t do it all the time, or even most of the time, only a few times out of the many times I used it over the course of a week. It wasn’t a big enough deal to me to be a huge concern. The camera did do well adjusting to different lighting conditions, fast moving objects and people, and animals. I didn’t use it in the water, but I did put it in the water to make sure it was waterproof, and I had no issues.
The application DJI Mimo, I didn’t care for at all. To me it was a bunch of information that I could have done without, almost like a builtin advertisement or something. I download the editing application, LightCut, and I do like that okay.
As far as a recommendation, I would recommend this camera and this version, the adventure. It has all you need to get the best shots and video for your vlog, streaming, social media, etc.

The DJI Action 3 is a very good camera with a price that makes it an excellent value. While it may not quite compete with GoPro's new model, it matches or comes close to many of its features, with a significantly lower cost of entry. In some areas it outperforms its competitors, bettering it in water (up to 16m without a case) and temperature resistance, as well as offering a slightly wider field of view (FoV).
There are a couple of handy features I liked, such as being able to use it as a webcam. Plug it in to a USB on your PC and it will ask if you want to transfer files or use it as a webcam. The Osmo Action 3 also supports Wi-Fi livestream @ 1080p/30 fps. The Action 3 also features dual touch screens and the interface is easy to use. The interface operation was smooth with no screen lag. Using DJI's Mimo app allows you to adjust everything from your phone or use it for remote operation.
The version reviewed here is the Adventure Combo, which add two additional 'Extreme Batteries', a very convenient 'Multifunctional Batter Case' which stores and charges three batteries (and is shaped like a granola bar so it fits easily in your pocket), a 1.5 extension rod. DJI claims the batteries offer 160 min max battery life with 150m life in temps as low as -20° F. Unfortunately, the 'Multifunctional Battery Case' does not come with a charger, and my phone's charger was not up to the task of charging the batteries fully. DJI recommends their 3.0w charger.
Video quality was very good overall, though it is a little lacking in low-light conditions, but in fairness it's competition isn't much better, if at all. The Action 3's RockSteady and HorizonBalancing stabilization both produce smooth video from aggressive action such as mountain biking. The default color balance and contrast were very good, and for the most part audio was clear from it's three microphones, though wind noise can creep in.
Overall the DJI Osmo Action 3 offers very good value, doing an impressive job of recording video at reasonable cost of entry. The stabilization features are excellent, the water resistance impressive, and the cold performance is important as I like to record while skiing, where temperatures can degrade battery life. I also appreciate that it doesn't spam me with subscription offers like my other action cam.

Quality Action Camera with Slight Drawbacks

The DJI Osmo Action 3 is back at where it should be. The Action 2 was a completely different form factor and well, it did not please me personally as a user. Bringing back this classic action camera form factor makes me feel this unit will not obliterate into a million pieces upon accidental drop impact.
Let's get into the weeds with the Action 3, starting with Battery Life. The Action 3 comes with 3 batteries and a very convenient charging case. I love how slim it is and can fit into a bag easily with the constant industry adoption of USB-C DJI has also stayed on this route. Connecting to a quick charger will bring these batteries to full within an hour or 2. Battery life while recording at 4K-60 was about 90 Minutes in my testing. Rest assured upon battery almost reaching 0% the unit will stop recording and then power down once it verifies the file has been saved. This is a critical feature that is a must have if you plan on recording long sessions.
Quality of the image is pretty darn good. The vibrance of the video is honestly impressive. Its not over saturated but certainly not dull - Unless you want to shoot in that mode. You'll see a screenshot of my aircraft on final for a runway. The ability for the camera to properly show the sunrise colors from the left to right along the horizon had me gasping when I opened this in my editor. Now you'll see another image here that shows the dynamic range of the Osmo is not fantastic especially when tasked with a indoor/Outdoor shot. The biggest reason I am DISAPPOINTED in this camera is there is NO ability to set an auto-exposure zone. I dug through features and manuals and nothing. A competing product has this ability and you'd think DJI would try to match that. Not having this ability left my image completely blown out and unbalanced. If you plan on trying to use this in any hybrid environment buyer beware. It does not handle it well. This has caused me to ensure I put the Action 3 in a spot on the aircraft where a strong light differential and dynamic range is not tasking the camera.
I did play around with the timelapse feature and it did not disappoint. It actually allows you to pick how you want the video to be rendered and custom time frames and even presets for the situation you are attempting to timelapse.
Audio is impressive for a small unit - Probably due to the additional microphone they included. I must say along with audio being a great quality, the UI/UX is my favorite. I love the chime and sound effects but also the intuitive nature of the camera itself. Going through menus is quite simple and logical.
The mounting mechanism of this camera is the BEST in the industry. Magnetic with strong latch locks. I feel like I could mount this anywhere and the mount would rip off from a surface before it detached from the camera. The external case to allow for Vertical Video for social media platforms is very smart and understandable due to the design of the camera itself and adapts well to that situation.
So should you get this camera? 90% of applications will not be seriously tasking the dynamic range of the camera or require an auto-exposure zone so if you are willing to part with that - Yes go with this unit. It will perform just as well as a competing product at a very fair price. However if Dynamic Range is a key quality feature along with focus zones and exposure zones, this camera does not support that... yet? Overall DJI created a much improved product over the Action 2 and leads to a wonderful set up next year for the Action 4 if they choose to continue the line.

I will start by saying that this camera can only be used by connecting to the DJI app which not available on the app store for me with android. I followed the instructions and scanned the code which took me to the website to download the app. I did have a bit of trouble getting it to download and open. I got really frustrated because it downloaded but i couldnt open it. After multiple attempts i took a break and later used a different device and was able to download it successful to be able to start using it. I love how tiny the camera is but can be used forward face or facing outward. I love that it is waterproof because i can use it rain or shine and in various outdoor activities. It has a clear video picture and the sound is great. I am able to capture memories while atv riding, compile great construction videos of my husbands work to add to his portfolio, and capture great memories while we are out enjoying nature! I love that it comes with a handheld mount or a stable mount because i can mount it to our atv so i dont have to hold it while videoing and can detach it to use for something. Overally its a great camera and my only frustration was the lack of ease downloading the app to use with it. I wish the app was available in the playstore.

I was looking for a camera to mount to my motorcycle helmet and this came across my path. I have to say at first, I was a little skeptical of the mounting system. Most of the time magnetic type mounts are great but with something that is going to see wind speeds of 70 miles an hour or more while riding down the highway, I must admit I was a little worried. All that worry though was for nothing, this mounting system they have is amazing the magnetic force helps line everything up and makes connecting the camera super easy and the two little side clips seem more than strong enough to hold everything in place even at speed. I was pleasantly surprised that along with an amazing mounting system the video quality out of this camera is really good. Switching from high light to low light situations like you might see while driving down the road the camera did really good to change the exposure and keep everything nice and visible. Even when essentially staring directly at the sun (driving into the sun in the afternoon evening) it did a great job of maintaining the image quality and keeping most everything visible even if it wasn’t to me. Another great feature that I use way more than I thought I would, is the quick switch button on the side of the camera. I set up 3 different profiles for different use cases and being able to quickly switch between them even when I’m wearing gloves is very useful. I was also surprised by the quality of the audio even in the wind. Most action cameras are not known for their audio quality, but I have to say for walking around and just talking to the camera the audio is surprisingly usable, even in slightly windy conditions the camera does a great job of filtering out most of the excess noise you would normally hear.
There are so many cool things about this camera that just work it’s hard to go through them all in a simple review but one thing I do want to bring up is the amazing battery life and system they have for charging those batteries with the Adventure combo. If you’re wondering if the combo is worth the little bit extra over just the camera I would 100% say yes almost solely because of the battery case and charging setup. The case that the three batteries you get in the combo come in is also the charger which is super convenient. But more than that it can also be used as a battery bank in those situations where your done filming for the day, but your phone needs a little juice. It’s super useful. As for battery life I was able to get over an hour and a half of continuous recording time without any problem, in fact I still had 35% battery remaining after that. I more than likely would have been able to get two full hours before even thinking about pulling another battery out of the case to swap. I’m super impressed with that as it means I can get a decent ride in before worrying about stopping to switch batteries over. If I had any gripes at all about the setup as a whole, it would only be that they don’t actually include a charging brick for the battery case. You must supply your own usb-c charger, but I guess that’s kind of the way the entire electronics industry has been going lately.
Overall if you're in the market for an action camera this is a seriously good offering from DJI.

Upon first powering on the device, I was greeted with a QR code to download the MANDATORY app. Yes, the camera will actually brick itself if you don’t connect it via the app. You can skip the app, but this is only allowed to happen up to five times. On the sixth power-on, if you don’t have the app yet, you can’t use the camera any more. I cannot believe that somebody decided that this was a good idea. What makes this even better is that the Android app is directly downloaded from the DJI web site. It is not available on the Google Play store, so turning on side loading is necessary, which might be troublesome for the less technically inclined.
The app was downloaded, but the camera still was not found. The stock firmware apparently doesn’t play nicely with Android 13. I need to connect to something to get the firmware update installed. I don’t know why there isn’t an option to update the firmware via the micro SD card. I guess that would have been too convenient for the customer. Well, it appears that the app also won’t even install in a Fire tablet. So I had to dig out an old, slow Samsung tablet with a cracked screen, as it appears to be the only device that I own that can run the app as well as connect to the camera using the old firmware. After a quick firmware upgrade, and running a couple of factory resets, the camera can finally connect to my phone.
Once the firmware issues were sorted out, I could finally start to use the camera. And I must admit that I am pleased with its performance. The first thing to notice is that the camera claims to be water resistant up to 50 feet! This might not be adequate for diving, but should be more than enough for swimming or even snorkeling. This package also includes the usual self-adhesive mount as well as a selfie stick. There is also a plastic bumper that attaches around the unit, and should protect it from the worst of knocks and bumps. So it seems adequately sturdy. If diving is an intended usage, the manufacturer does offer a floating handle as well as a proper waterproof housing rated for almost 200 feet.
There is a full color screen on both the front and the back, with the back screen also being touch sensitive for the user interface. Also, when paired with a phone running the DJI Mimo app, you can see a live view of what the camera sees, as well as being able to remotely control the camera, which is a nice touch. I notice that the image stabilization is VERY impressive. Videos were very smooth, despite my inability to hold it steady. Videos are in 4K, while pictures are 12MP (4000 x 3000 resolution). This camera also includes such niceties as slow motion and time lapse video. Note that this is a VERY wide angle lens (claimed 155 degrees), so it has very noticeable barrel distortion. I should point out that this is expected of a fisheye lens, and the other “big brand” also has the same distortion. Any decent photo editing software can fix this.
Also included in the package was a very nice battery pack, as well as three batteries. This can also be used as a power bank in a pinch, so you can charge your phone up. There is also space in the lid to hold two extra micro SD cards.
So, my overall opinion is that, if you can get the firmware updated properly, and you can connect this camera to the app when you first get it, then this is a great camera. But DJI needs to seriously reconsider how they handle firmware updates, as a customer should not have to go through the headaches that I went through just to get the product operational.

Nice Action Cam, Needs a Better App Experience!

The DJI Osmo Action3 is DJI's third attempt at an action cam and mostly a winner. GoPro users will find it remarkably familiar. The shape, button location, and even the menus pretty much mirror the GoPro experience. While not quite up to the specs of the latest GoPro Heros, it does offer some nice touches of it's own, including a price $100 lower. Unfortunately, at least for Android users, the experience is marred by the app experience. More on that later.
The Adventure Combo is very complete. It includes the Action3 camera, three extreme batteries, a (very nice) three battery charging case, two quick release mounts, a flat adhesive base, a protective frame, selfie stick, two locking screws, and the ubiquitous USBc cable. The Extreme batteries are supposed to perform better at low temperatures, which I didn't test. The battery life is excellent, over an hour sitting on my desk recording at 4K120(max resolution and frame rate). Overheating seems to be a non-issue, as the camera didn't shut down or heat up excessively during the test. Charging is also extremely quick, both in the camera and in the charging case. Full charge took about 20min. The cool thing about the charging case is that it can double as a power bank, like for an emergency charge for your phone. The charging case also has two slots to hold extra microSD cards.
The quick release adapter is pretty neat. It's magnetic has an additional pair of clips to secure it to the camera or the mounting case. The mounting finger are standard gopro, so it locked right into my handlebar mount. I'm a gravel/road cyclist and put the camera through it's paces on the bike. Some significant jolts out in the dirt didn't budge the camera, but when I wanted to remove it (at coffee, gotta have coffee), I could unclip it easily. The Osmo Action3 has a single mount on the bottom, but the mounting case has mounting clips on the bottom and the side for vertical orientation if you want. The stabilization is excellent, you choose among four levels, off, rocksteady, horizonsteady, or horizonbalancing. Increasing stabilization narrows the field of view as the stabilization software reserves more of the sensor area. One additional feature that I found very useful was voice prompts for mode. This is especially useful when you're not able to look at the camera. I hope DJI extends it to include more voice prompts, like for recording and not recording.
After unboxing, I started the Osmo Action3 setup. This is where things, if you have an Android phone, go incredibly sideways. The DJI Mimo app is NOT available in the Google Play store, it is ONLY available for download directly from DJI. Since it is available in the Apple store, I'm assuming the problem is some compatibility with Google's new app format or Play Store. To install it on Android devices, you have to sideload the app, explicitly allowing installation from an untrusted source, download and install the .apk file manually, then disable installation from an untrusted source. Ughh! You'll need to repeat this occasionally, as the app doesn't appear to update itself. This has to get fixed and soon. So next get the battery and microSD into the camera and power it on. A somewhat threatening message pops up, something like "Activation Required: Skip: 5 Times Remaining". At this point you can pair the Osmo Action 3 with the app, register it, and update the firmware. Not sure what happens if you don't activate it within the five times.
All in all, the DJI Osmo Action3 is easy to like. While not quite as advanced or polished as the new GoPro, you can save a lot of money if you don't need the absolute highest resolution and frame rate device. And it does have some unique features, like the quick release mount and quick charge, long life batteries, Hopefully they will resolve the issues and get their app back in the Google Play store. It really detracts from an otherwise excellent action cam.

I really wanted to like this camera.
It’s marketed a bit differently from the GOPRO Hero 11 Black in the sense that it’s not made to collect as high of a resolution, but it seems to the jack of all trades type of product.
My main issue was that I had the focus problem that most people on YouTube and Reddit were reporting. It’s not necessarily mind glowingly bad but it was noticeable. Supposedly the issue has been fix if you receive a model made in November or afterwards. They also released an update to try and address the issue but it’s overcompensating with sharpness.
The battery pack is awesome, you can use the three batteries inside as an external battery pack to charge other items as well. Such a brilliant idea.

I love DJI products. I’ve owned many and have never really been disappointed until now. I will start by saying, the look and feel of the action camera is great as always. DJI tends to deliver very well-built quality made products and this is no exception. The camera and accessories that come with the camera are solid.
The camera mounting system is great. Quick and easy magnetic attachment with clips to secure the camera in place. I really feel like this is a great overall improvement to the action camera industry as a whole. I feel like this should be the standard mounting system. It just works.
The camera interface is great once you get use to it. I find myself still getting used to it but its very simple to navigate. I also like that the touch controls are available on the front and back of the action camera. This provides great versatility for control and changing settings. Overall I feel like this action camera has a great feature set for the price. Rock steady, Horizon steady, and Horizon Balancing are all great features on this camera. I’ve tested the sound quality and it is pretty decent but those looking to use an external microphone are limited by no 3.5mm input and only USB type C. I assume you could use a USB Type C to 3.5mm adapter but its an extra item you would have to find and purchase.
In the Adventure Combo you get 3 batteries and a battery charging case with USB type C charging. Im happy to see more and more devices moving to USB type C. It just makes sense. I think the coolest thing about this batter pack is the fact that it doubles as a backup battery charger you can use to charge your other devices. This is an amazing feature and very useful! The included selfie stick is also very nice and feels like a quality well built product extending way beyond what I would ever need from a length perspective. It also has a tripod mount on the bottom.
So overall, quality build, quality features, easy to use interface like all DJI products.
Now the upsetting part. There seems to be a focus issue with the action camera. I myself am experiencing this issue. I’ve read a lot of folks are having this same problem. This is not a small problem. Focus is huge! And there is a significant problem with the focus on this camera. Almost to the point where, if it doesn’t get fixed in a firmware update or sent in for repair it not going to meet the mark for folks over other options. I have tested this and you can see in my example photos what I am talking about. I really hope DJI can fix this as this could be such a great camera.

This is a great camera with excellent run time and incredible stability tech. Very easy to use and enough setting adjustments to keep a pro happy. It even has a useful battery life in cold weather- snowmobiling and ski slopes.

Wanted a tool to log my daily life so I decided to get this after watching some reviews. I know action 3 has focus issues but seems has been solved in the products manufactured after Nov 2022. So I bought it in Jan 2023, but what I received was still manufactured in September 2023. And I tested it and found it did have focus issue (can’t focus at about 40cm, according to the data sheet the minimum should be 30cm). So I returned it.

I have used GoPro's in the past, and they are great cameras, this is just a more thoughtful product. Ease of use is improved over the GoPro, with features such as the easy switch between landscape and portrait orientation.
Highly recommend, and at a great price point!
