After much research I decided to purchase this one as it is more practical, user friendly then go pro. Go pro 11 has better video quality but if you are not into film production, you won’t know the different. Ease of use is more important to me then brand.

Challenging the GoPro HERO11

It is impossible to talk about the DJI Osmo3 camera without discussing the GoPro HERO11 camera that was released almost simultaneously (and its predecessor, the HERO10). Both cameras are almost indistinguishable in size and weight – and the cameras are practically identical in terms of operation and navigation. There is no doubt that the design of the Osmo3 was “heavily influenced” by the designs of the HERO10 and HERO 11 cameras. GoPro makes cameras that are truly versatile and outstanding and the company has established itself as the one to beat in the realm of action/lifestyle cameras.
GoPro is, obviously, the one to beat!
GoPro has years of experience on their side to support increasingly capable cameras, but DJI has been making astounding drones with phenomenal image stabilization and “content creation” cameras and DJI’s production provides them with a wealth of creative support at their disposal that absolutely would prohibit a lesser company from offering a camera like this to compete with one known giant. And DJI did not come to play.
The Osmo3 has a better/larger sensor than the GoPros, is waterproof to a greater depth, and has been showing me MUCH better battery life. And, in an interesting flex, while cameras from both companies sport front and rear image viewing screens, only the Osmo3 has touchscreen navigation on the FRONT screen as well as on the real screen – astounding.
In terms of relative feature differences, the GoPro HERO11 only has a couple options that exceed the capabilities of DJI’s Osmo3: the GoPro can take video at 5.3K at 30fps (the Osmo3 maxes out at 4K – both cameras can capture 4K at 120fps), and the GoPro can capture 8x slow motion video at 2.7K / 240fps (the Osmo3 can only capture 8x slow motion video at 1080P – but can capture 4x slow motion video at 2.7K).
DJI and GoPro use different types of image stabilization technology – both are incredible. I prefer DJI’s result.
Small deviations in technology aside, I had a SIGNIFICANT problem getting my DJI Osmo3 camera up and running for evaluation. Basically, after five powers-on, the camera will not continue to function until the firmware is updated - and the firmware can only be updated by connection through a smartphone. Apparently, there was a problem either with the firmware that the camera was shipped with or with the app that is available for Android devices or both (I believe it was both). I was testing the camera using my Google Pixel 4XL smartphone and the DJI app could not locate the Osmo3 camera. After many attempts (and disastrous interactions with DJI customer support!!), I tried a crazy workaround - I installed the DJI iOS app on my old iPod Touch and was able to connect to the camera and update the firmware immediately and continue evaluating the camera. Then, once the firmware was updated, my Android app was miraculously able to identify the camera.
My informed guess is that DJI rushed the Osmo3 out to evaluation so it could compete in real time with the release of the GoPro HERO11 camera. I got an early version of the camera to review so I hope that this camera is being shipped with improved firmware that will avert such a crisis. But I’m concerned that quality control at DJI didn’t catch such a glaring problem prior to sending it out for review – seems like bad business for a company that is not known for shipping out products with poor review.
Final notes: (1) The battery life for the Osmo3 is astonishing – they claim a maximum usage time of 2.5 hours under ideal conditions and settings, but my own experiences with standard video at 30fps have allowed me working times that truly approach 2 hours! (2) This creator kit comes with THREE batteries in a charging case that accommodates all three batteries – their combined high performance shooting time is incredible. Also, FWIW, a depleted battery can be charged to 80% capacity in the camera in 18 minutes. (3) The mounting hardware design for the Osmo3 is the same as the design on the GoPro cameras so peripheral mounts are interchangeable. GoPro cameras utilize flip-down mounts that are part of the base camera, the DJI cameras us a magnetic quick-release mount that attaches and detaches from the base camera. (4) This kit includes a sturdy grip mount that extends out to a length of 5 feet. In the DJI Mimo app, you can use their AI to remove the stick from selfie videos to give the appearance of being filmed externally by a professional. & (5) Be forewarned that super slow motion video is VERY taxing to this camera (and to the GoPro cameras as well) – this camera can get extremely hot in extreme slomo modes during extended sessions.
DJI is pushing this base camera out at fully $100 less than the GoPro HERO11 base camera (as I write this). Assuming it ships to stores with better functioning firmware, then I think they have thrown down the gauntlet.
Enthusiastically recommended!!

DJI’s next version of an action cam looks to take on the obvious juggernaut in the industry, and does a fairly good job, though with some definite limitations, but also so added features that their competitor doesn’t have.
The camera is slightly smaller than its competitor, though nearly similar in weight. The lens is large and circular, and oddly and inexplicably exceeds the footprint of the overall camera itself, protruding beyond the left and top of the camera.
Image quality is what you would expect of a DJI product. Crisp, clear images with very good stabilization, though did get some jitter when really bouncing it around while testing it out. In terms of stabilization, I think they may have a little more work to do, but for most people with most activities, you’ll get really good, smooth images out of the camera.
Video tops out at 4K, versus 5.3K in other cameras, but most of us using cams for videos are only uploading or processing in post at a 4K max since that’s what 99% of people are capped at, whether on their phones or TV, so this isn’t a negative, just worth mentioning.
I like say I have a love-hate relationship with the accessory mount. The genius part is its magnetic+clip attachment. The clips bite into the camera & hold the mount and accessories on, while the magnet built into it helps guide it into place if you’re trying to change things around without looking directly at it. You can put the mount on the bottom (standard), or on the side for vertical video, but ONLY with the included camera frame attachment that you have to slide the camera into (and you’ll find there’s no reason not to put it in the frame & leave it – you lose no functionality by leaving it in place). Also, the mount, since it’s magnetic, only attaches on one way, and like 2 magnets being put together, it will push the mount away if it’s put on backwards. Probably could have made 1 side magnet and the other side a metal to avoid this. As an aside, the mounts are slightly larger than GoPro mounts, but are configured to work with non-DJI mounts just the same.
The menus and options I think are easier to access & change than its competitor, with the added bonus that you can control the options from the front screen if you’re shooting selfie videos or cameras.
The Action Combo comes with a load of accessories, including a couple of mounts, a long, 4-foot mounting pole if you’re using this while skiing or other activity where you want the camera further away from you. The DJI app has the ability to digitally remove the pole from your videos, though I did see where it would occasionally miss a few pixels when moving it around and you could see the pole for a brief second. But in terms of shooting far, wide shots, this was a great addition.
Battery life blows away the competition. I was running over 1 hour of video per battery in an ice cold hockey rink (so there may have been some loss in capacity), and DJI claims you can get up to 160 minutes per battery, though I got nowhere near that, so presumably that’s with a variety of options changed in the settings, turning off LED displays, etc. I also appreciate that DJI (unlike others) included a battery charging bay and 3 batteries with this combo pack. Right out of the box, without any other purchases, you’re going to get about 90 minutes of shooting time per battery.
As with any 4K level camera, make sure you’re selecting a proper SD card for the device. You’ll want the fastest card you can find, and DJI has a list of supported cards, though note that anything in the high speed range will work.
Cons:
Right out of the chute, I was turned off by the fact the official DJI Mimo app to control the camera was only available via direct download from DJI and not available in the app store (I’m on Android). The red flag here is that it’s not approved from Google, and moreover requires you to lower your security settings to allow untrusted apps (not downloaded from Google). Considering DJI’s headquarters location, this certainly is a concern, but if you want any level of live control over the camera or livestreaming capabilities, you’re forced to choose this app. Also, the app is different from the DJI Go app used for drones (which IS available from Google, oddly), so now I’m running 2 different DJI apps – one for my 2 drones and 1 for this camera. Would like to see them consolidate the apps together.
There is a lot of talk in reviews & on user boards about focus issues and blurry images. That is indeed a problem, and I did notice the issue out of the box. HOWEVER, if you update the firmware to the current version, it appears to fix it, and all subsequent photos and videos have been crisp & clear.
And the camera runs HOT. After a solid 90-minute shoot, the camera was noticeably (and almost concerningly) warm, and this was while shooting in an ice cold hockey rink. I haven’t had a chance to test it in the hot Texas sun yet, but imagine the added ambient heat will only add to the heat issues. Not sure if it’s the battery or the internals causing the temperature, but worries me about the long term life of the batteries.
There is also no accessory options in terms of add-ons (external mic, external light, etc.). While the built-in mic isn’t bad, there’s no option for say a lav mic to record narration while you’re doing whatever activity you are doing. Would have liked to see a 3.5mm mic port on it.
Summary:
This really is a good camera, though there are certainly a handful of issues and features that could be improved. The requirement that you have to have the app (no choice) yet the app is unverified concerns me. The heating up of the camera is also a concern. But with those issues, the camera is a great option if you’re looking for a good, small camera that comes not only with features but helpful accessories right out of the box.

I’m a DJI fan. I have had pretty much of all their drone models since the Phantom 3 Pro all the way to the Avata. I’ve also owned their Osmo series as well. This is first action cam from DJI though. My two previous action cams were GoPros. My first GoPro, the videos were so shaky, it was hard for me to view them. Nowadays, action cam videos are so smooth like as if they were on gimbals. Action 3 has three stabilization features; RockSteady, HorizonBalancing & HorizonSteady. HorizonSteady is only available on 1080P and 2.7K/16:9 resolutions up to 60fps. HorizonSteady lets you rotate the camera a full 360 degrees while keeping the horizon steady as if the camera was standing still. I probably won’t get to use that feature but good for those extreme sports users. The HorizonBalancing, which is available on resolutions up to 4K/16:9 60fps, is the stabilization feature that I used the most. It keeps the horizon level just as long as the camera tilt is no more than +- 45 degrees. This Action 3 takes awesome crisp pictures up to 12MP and breathtaking 4K videos at up to 120fps (16:9 only). It has slow motion up to 240fps at 1080P and up to 120fps at 4K. If you’re into Timelapse or Hyper-lapse, Action 3 got you covered.
Truthfully though, my favorite feature is the magnetic mount because it makes switching or moving the Action 3 around so easy, frustration free. Too bad it only comes with two magnetic mounts. With the protective Frame on, you get two mounting points, horizontal or vertical for those TikTok or IG contents. Sometimes I use the Action 3 as a dash cam and these mounts makes it easy to mount and unmount from my dashboard.
Dual full function touchscreen is nice. You can make changes to the camera settings from any screen. Both touchscreens are pretty responsive too which will probably make vloggers very happy.
Like every DJI that I’ve had, this is well built but if that’s not enough for you, you can slide it into the Protective Frame for more protection. The Protective Frame lets you use the camera vertically or horizontally.
You can control the camera with the voice command function. It has four commands; Start/Stop recording, Take photo and shutdown. There were a few times where I had to repeat the commands but this was outdoors and there was a nice breeze going which probably interfered with the mic. Speaking of mics. This has three mics, two on the front and a “windproof mic” at the bottom.
It comes with three batteries and a nice multifunction storage case. The case charges batteries using an external charger (not included). It has an LED for each of the battery compartment that indicates the battery status. Green LED for a charged battery and red for battery that needs charging. Wish it was able to charge the batteries without using a charging block.
Here are some other notable specs:
Weight: 145g (0.31 lbs)
Max video bitrate: 130Mbps
Battery: 160mins
Uses USB-C for charging and data transfer
Digital 4X zoom
ISO range of 100-12800
FOV: 155 degrees
Fixed aperture: f/2.8
It would be better:
A built-in storage device would have been nice
Wish they would have added tripod legs on the extension rod.

There is a lot to like from DJI Osmo Action 3. I owned the Osmo Action 1 and series 3 is an improvement over an already very good action camera at the time. DJI decided to return to the typical form factor for action camera, which makes a lot of sense.
This time around, 4K with lots of FPS is the norm. 4K TVs are very common these days and people like to watch their content in the glorious 4K resolution. Osmo Action 3 supports 4K resolution at 120 FPS, which is great for making fast motion looks detailed and editing the clip into slow motion possible.
The adventure combo comes with accessories that you will actually use: the stick, the mount, extra batteries, charging cable and the skeleton case. They are all useful. When I got my action camera for the first time more than a decade ago, these are the accessories I was looking for to start taking video.
The camera is waterproofed up to 52 feet, which makes this camera a must bring item every time we go to waterpark. Kids love underwater footage of themselves.
The screen is good enough, nothing too special but both screen is touch operated. Access to menu is simple enough, will take a short moment to familiarize yourself with all the functions of the camera.
Video and sound quality is great. You can take video in vertical mode like a mobile phone’s camera. This is a solid DJI product that enables your footage to shine in popular video sharing website such as Youtube. The Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) is doing very good job of stabilizing the video and it supports horizon steady, which makes your clip as if it were being taken by a camera gimbal. The EIS works really well even when you run, which is awesome. DJI also has a plethora of accessories to choose from, including external microphone to boost audio quality of your clip. If you’re into drones, modifying a mount for the drone to carry the camera is not difficult.
So, can you use this camera as a normal camera doing normal stuffs unrelating to sports or extreme actions? Absolutely, the field of view of the camera is adjustable to normal. If you’re considering getting an action camera, this bundle gives you quality accessories that you will use. Make sure to get decently fast memory card to get started.

This set from out of the box gives you a lot! I absolutely love the handheld extension rod. I'd love it more if it was covered in a foam or padded exterior but the textured rubber is not too bad in the hand. It comes with three "extreme" batteries, a protective case for the camera, two rubber lens protectors for safety, two quick connect adapters with screws for each, a USB type C charge cord, and a flat adhesive mount, as well as the camera itself.
The camera does shoot 4k video but for the price I would think it'd shoot better than a 12 megapixel picture with a maximum aperture of f/2.8. And the only focus mode is automatic. Most peoples cell phones outdo that now (megapixel wise). I do love the fact that it's touchscreen and has screens on both front and back. It's waterproof too, to a quoted 52 feet below water. You can also use microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC for expanded internal memory. It is also Bluetooth and WiFi enabled.
One thing to note as well when I was reading it says that its operating temperature minimum is -4 degrees Fahrenheit to a maximum of 113 degrees Fahrenheit. So I know this from living in Las Vegas haha that fairly often in the summer time you'll see above that and then some which might be an issue for some because In Arizona and Nevada a lot of adventurers go hiking for the scenic spots especially the Grand Canyon and Red Rock Canyon to name a few.
One of the biggest issues I have with this camera and setup was that the necessary app cannot be downloaded for android from the Google Play store, you must scan the QR code on the back of the box and then download the APK app for android users. Now most won't even know what an APK app is but it's an external app and to even download it and put it on your phone, you have to go into your settings and change it under "install unknown apps". It then warns you that installing apps from this type of source may put your phone and data at risk because it is not screened for safety like apps are on the Google Play store. By definition "An application is a mini software that can be installed on any platform whether it be Android, Windows or iOS whereas Apk files can be installed only on Android systems. Applications directly install on any device however, Apk files have to be installed as an app after downloading it from any reliable source." In my opinion DJI who has more than one app for their drones on the Google Play store should definitely have one available for these cameras as well so that someone doesn't have to risk turning off safety features to download their app.
Overall the video and all of the features and functions of the camera worked flawless for me. It's a really nice "complete" set for what you're paying. I would definitely recommend to others

Good Camera, Full Kit, Great Value, but...

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I don’t have a ton of experience with action cams, but so far, I like what DJI has done here. Mostly. There is quite a bit I like…and some that I do not.
Right out of the box, the camera (everything in the kit really) seems built well and has a rather nice design. Everything is black, clean, and simple. More or less the look I am looking for in just about everything.
Once up and running, I found the menus and software intuitive and easy to use. I didn’t really have any problems figuring out what I was doing. It was also nice to see that I could have some control from both the front and back screens (they are both quite responsive). Not really something I had thought about, but a great add
.
When it comes to what this camera is all about, I was mostly pleased. I thought the 4K video output looked good, was color accurate, and I was really impressed with the field of view. I found the stabilization solid as well, but I am sure this depends a bit on what you are doing with the camera. That said, I am struggling a bit with focus issues. It is not as noticeable to me in the video itself but can be seen in stills. I went down a rabbit hole searching, and after a firmware update the problem is “better.” Sort of. Everything is sharper, but I am not certain the issue is truly fixed. This could be me partly over-obsessing over the camera output, but it is something to note. Regardless, I am hopeful that DJI will address this is some capacity via an update, and perhaps this is not an issue for some. As for the sound, well, I do think it is pretty good. Probably more than good enough in most situations. I just wish they included a 3.5” port. Yes, there is USB-C that can be used, but it just complicates things. Would be great to be able to just plug and play other mics.
Battery life has been very good. Perhaps a bit lower than stated by DJI, but I am sure that was a number given with a lot of settings tweaked and/or lower than most would operate. Still, no complaints at all here. I think it is a strength of this product. Not only does the battery perform well, but they give you 3 batteries in this kit, and a fantastic case to house them in. Not only does it store the 3 batteries, and show the charged status, but you can use the case to charge all 3 at the same time as well. Further, it is extremely compact (like everything in the kit) and easily stowable.
Frankly, the included accessories are a major part of great value of this entire kit. Between the battery situation, the frame, the magnetic mounts, base, and the extension rod/selfie stick, you really get the entire package. I really like how easy the magnetic mounts are to use and I can’t believe how much I have enjoyed using the selfie stick for, well, not really traditional selfies. I am impressed how well the software can get rid of the stick. Software voodoo. It makes it easy to really get some cool footage. That said, I am still learning how to get the most out of it.
So, as I said, there is a lot I like here, but…it is not perfect. There is the focus issue (take my opinion for what it is worth here), the lack of a 3.5” port, and it does run a bit hot. So far, temperatures haven’t been an issue, and I do like that they seemed to take care of cold weather use (and water), but it seems heat is an issue in this space. Something I will have to keep an eye on when warm weather returns where I am. Lastly, as an Android user, I feel I have to mention that the DJI app for this cam is not on the Play Store, and quite honestly, not the best software. It is not really a “major” concern for me, but given the world today, it is something to, again, think about. Could the app disappear? What effect would that have on the camera? Unknowns.
All of that said, in the end I like this camera and the kit. As is. Full stop. It is a good, compact camera with some nice features and comes with a ridiculously nice kit of accessories that are more or less a laundry list of day one purchases you no longer have to make. A good camera and a great value, but, as always, check your use case.
