    Failed product + poor customer service = $ wasted

    Was very excited to embrace DJI's smallest drone - especially to use it while traveling. Unfortunately the device is riddled with issues. From what I've read - much of what I experienced was in line with what others have reported on DJI's forms and on review sites inc Amazon's. Shortly after getting my Spark along w/ DJI's controller, I experience a verity of software issues ultimately having DJI's iOS app crash on a regular basis DURING FLIGHT! This was more than a little nerve-racking but fortunately the controller stayed functional... that is until my 10th flight. The 10th time I flew my DJI drone - I took off from my front yard and about 1 minute after take off, with the drone only about 45 feet away but moving up and away from the house - the drone completely disconnected from both my app and controller. Instead of stopping and returning to the home point it continued flying away from my house both - up and away until I couldn't see it behind trees and other houses. THE DRONE DID NOT RETURN. I spent about an hour canvassing the neighborhood to no avail. A bit deflated - I started researching more about this type of behavior on message boards and found that this is a combination software and hardware error. A week later I was in San Francisco and stopped by DJI's store there and in explaining to the what happend to the sales person - he acknowledged that his is a failure he's heard about before and that DJI should compensate me for the drone, recommending I file a ticket with the DJI customer service. This is not an easy task with a variation of questions, forms to submit and documents + flights records to upload. After 10 days of back and forth with the DJI CS team (operating in UTC+8 aka. China standard time), I was told that the problem was "Improper flight environment" - What the h#ll does that mean??? I then was offered 15% off a new same color, same model drone as long as purchased directly through DJI. NOPE! Why would I want to throw more money away on a faulty product??? Unfortunately I can not recommend this product nor any drone by a company that clearly doesn't stand behind it's devices.

    Terrible Instructions

    The instructions to learn to operate this thing is poor. The first time I started it I couldn’t figure out how to stop it. So I quick went to the app to look for info and found everything else but not what I needed. So I went to the internet meanwhile this thing is still sitting there spinning while I’m googling away but still found nothing. So I tried to reverse the sequence hoping that would turn off the propellers but instead it lifted off my desk and started wobbling around until the propeller strikes my laptop, the drone flipped over upside down, broke one of the propellers off crashed upside down on my keyboard and scratched my screen on my laptop. Luckily there were no kids around. I spent 3-4 hours reading instructions and watching tutorials and I can tell you first hand you need some type of formal training to operate this thing. It is nowhere near easy. The instructions speak in incomplete sentences, the dialogue is obviously a translation from a foreign language because they use improper sentence structures which leave you scratching your head.

    I purchased this drone in Dec 17. I found it difficult to operate using my phone. Also has very limited distance just using the phone method. I spent the money and bought the additional remote which made it much easier to fly. After about 10-12 flight I was flying it over a local river and the drone got disconnected from the controller and landed in the river. DJI said because I could not recover the drone there is nothing they can do but offer me a 30% discount on another drone. I did some research and this is a common problem with their products. I will do some quick YouTube searches and google searches before buying a DJI product. Customer service is not a concern to them.

    Battery falls out

    My son bought the DJI spark and was very excited to use it as it was fairly easy to get going once he watched the videos online. The manual does nothing to help understand how to use it. Took it out to show his friends and the battery dropped out. This was within 24 hours of buying the product. The drone fell to the ground and broke. Fortunately the people at Best Buy stood by their product and gave him a replacement. Not more than 48 hours later had the same thing happen. Returning and hopefully will get my money back.

You are correct that the included manual could definitely be improved, but until then we have amazing resources available online in both written and video guides. The problem you are describing is incredibly rare and usually is a result of a lack of ensuring the battery is properly connected. This is not to imply any fault, rather to inform potential future customers from having a poorly seated battery. DJISupport

    Poor customer service

    Purchased new - battery was defective - could not fly or try. Spoke to company and they said they would send out a replacement right away. Now over 2 weeks still no battery, could not use for what I wanted it for and have yet to see if it even works. Checked and now they said they had to receive the new defective battery before they would send it out. Will never buy DJI again.

    Deceptive busyness pratices by Best Buy.

    This DJI Quadcopter came without a charger. That is kind of odd. During online purchase at Best Buy, their was not listing for a charger, currently stores in my area do not have any chargers. for the price, a charger should be included.

    Everything appeared fine out of box, did all necessary updates, up on first flight drone took off by itself, flying itself into the ground and breaking off an arm and motor. Drone has been sent to DJI for repairs

    Bottom line: you can't even start this drone up without the right smart phone....my Droid Z didn't make the list! Would have lived to be told that somewhere in the users guide or even before I purchased it.
