Easy to get started, and even easier for younger players with Funky Mode. All the classic elements of Donkey Kong Country that you remember, with stunning graphics for the modern age.

If you didn’t get this on the Wii U, I highly recommend it. The level design, music, and charm of this game are outstanding. Funky has helped my young son play co-op with me, so that’s a nice added feature, as well.

I have always loved the Donkey Kong Country games and happy to have this come out for the switch. Way more convenient to play than setting it up on the Wii U. Also nice to have Funky Kong as an added player for ease of play!

I finally picked up a copy of DKC: Tropical Freeze after enough friends who played the Wii U version convinced me to give it another try. I will say Retro Studios, the developer, continues to do an excellent job at making everything in the game worlds feel connected—there is basically never a random floating platform; everything is connected to something, and that can make it easier to figure out what will do what. On the other hand, some of the things I was able to pick up on, as someone more experienced with Donkey Kong Country games, and 2D platformers in general, were not as obvious to less experienced games I tried to play with in co-op mode. I do know the Switch version has the new “Funky Mode”, which is essentially an easy mode that lets you bypass a lot of challenges in levels, but 1) I feel like removing the challenge takes a lot of the fun out for me, personally, and 2) that doesn't help with things like people forgetting you need to hold ZL/ZR while you're grabbing a vine. If you are less experienced with 2D platformers, it may make sense to go with something like New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe; if you already enjoy 2D platformers, or Donkey Kong Country in particular, then this is an excellent entry in the series that improves on 2010's Donkey Kong Country Returns in pretty much every way.

This game is a must have if you have a nintendo switch! music and gameplay is amazing.

This is fun and easy game. The co-op section is easy and fun to play even with little kids.

This game provides an enjoyable ride of nostalgia enhanced by today's graphics and game-play mechanics. It is frustratingly difficult at times and there's been multiple instances where I've had to set the game down for the day after being destroyed over and over in certain boss fights. I guess for some people that's a good thing, but it's what keeps me from giving it 5 stars.

Donkey Kong country remains a tough as nails platformer, and is all the better for it. You will die a lot but nothing beats the feeling of finally getting through what seemed to be an unbeatable level.

My son loves this game and I really like playing it with him. My brother in law came over and played with my son. He enjoyed it so much he bought it as well when he went home. Good classic fun from Nintendo.

So much fun! Better than the DK games from my childhood but not completely different either. A must for every gamer

One of the best side scrolling platformers! Can be frustrating at times but is very fun! Reminds me of the old Donky Kong Country games for snes.

I tend to think that Nintendo platformers are in a league of their own, and that the newer (post-Gamecube) versions have not lived up to the heights of the 90s Nintendo hits. Tropical Freeze (which I missed on Wii U) is the best Nintendo 2D platformer (and therefore the best in the genre) since the 90s, either Yoshi’s Island or DKC2 depending on your taste, because of the inventive and challenging level design. Definitely a big step up from its predecessor, DKC Returns (originally on Wii). If you have a Switch, love 90s Nintendo 2D platformers, and haven’t played this yet, you should absolutely check it out.

I remember playing this game when I was a little girl. The music is absolutely amazing and it's so addicting we beat the game in two days but only because I went to sleep. You will not be disappointed!

I grew up with Donkey Kong and Mario games and have always loved them. This game is fun, but it's really difficult (at least to me!). I recently purchased Mario Brothers U Deluxe, and I like how it starts out easy and gets progressively harder. This game seems hard from the start. But again, it's fun, so if you're up for a challenge, get this game!

Adventure/platforming are my favorite type of games, since my first game was Super Mario World and my second and favorite of all time was Donkey Kong Country. I don't like to compare that much since all games gives you a different kind of experience, but based on the fun fact, this one offers the same fun from the SNES ones. Characters feels a little bit slower but they have better timing and the levels are incredibly detailed with secrets, traps, characters, and so on. Music is composed by the same composer from the SNES trilogy, kremlings were missed, and the challenge is high. This is a kind of difficult game for average gamers. But the experience is incredible. Highly recommended.

This game is a blast! Especially with a friend or significant other…if you both have patience. This game can be downright difficult but I love it!

Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze is a game to be savoured. Take your time, plot your course then work on nailing the execution - repeatedly, as the case may often be. It's the least you can do, really, given how Retro Studios has nailed the not inconsiderable task of taking some fairly dusty old platformers and crafting something that feels vibrant and alive - and it's all done in the detail. There's a refined physicality to Donkey Kong's movement - another thing you lose when playing as Funky Kong, sadly - with levels there to be bashed and bounded throuch. Bar Tokyo EAD's bongo-infused Jungle Beat, no other game has nailed the heavy-palmed, gamboling momentum of Donkey Kong so effectively.

Amazing game and so much fun to play. Highly recommend for all gamers.

This is my favorite switch game. It is fun, and challenging without being frustrating and the levels and worlds all have unique things about them, specially the boss fights.
