This is the story of a cartoonist who had to recover from self-doubt and bad habits before he could find his calling and earn both respect from others and a comfortable living. Injured in an auto wreck as a young adult, he was left wheelchair bound for life (and he lived on for several decades). Demon rum put him in the chair, and demon run kept him in shackles for a long time, but friends and good luck finally turned his life around.

I just love Joaquin Phoenix. He is so versatile and always does an interesting take on any character he plays. Here, he is at his best playing a part that could have been very static. Not him. Wild, crazy and delightful.

This movie is just scary how it shows alcoholics when they’re at their peak. This is about an alcoholic who became pretty much paralyzed after an accident involving him and his friend. The story is very dark and depressing. Then how he rose to become one of the well known cartoon artist.

Phoenix is great as always but very surprised and impressed with Black and Hill. This movie is a lot more complete than you may believe from first glance.

The movie is a slow burn and some scenes didn't necessarily need to be in the finished product but all together this is a great true story.

This ALL STAR cast does a fantastic job in this movie. The telling of the struggles and problems of achieving sobriety.
