It really guides you through everything to a fault. I recommend playing on challenge mode if you're looking for something closer to the older versions of the game

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Sticks the Landing

The fundamentals of why this game is a classic are all here, but with improvements and options that all make sense and ultimately enhance the game. DQ III is also on its own an excellent classic JRPG with great characters, a fun party system, and a nice degree of challenge.
