Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the fun gameplay, engaging story, and portability of Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, particularly praising the enhanced content and voice acting in this version. While some players missed the original orchestrated music from previous releases, many appreciated the removal of random encounters. The 3DS port is considered a success by many players.

Although this is a remake of PS2 game the game still holds up today. Beautiful art style by level 5, great voice over and dialogue and just a massive adventure. Definitely the best DQ in the series and a great place to start if you haven't played the series yet. Well worth it!

Dragon Quest VIII is a remake of the classic 2005 PS2 game. Unlike other games in the series, the game features a very streamlined story and leveling up system. Kids of all ages should enjoy this breezy story with beautiful graphics despite the 3DS' limitations.

A more limited character roster results in a greatly improved story, no one seems short changed due to this. Great overall story and classic JRPG gameplay, strongly recommended. No 3D support, but one of the best looking games on the platform.

I played this game originally for the PS2 back in college. Several long nights were spent staying up way later than I should have to find as much as possible as I could. The refresh on the 3DS takes that foundation and makes it better. Enemies in the over world allow you to avoid encounters when you just want to get somewhere and end your game session. An improved quick save allows you to save your progress in those situations where you still can't make it to a town before you need to go, making the game far more portable than it would have been otherwise. I will admit that I have lost 30+ minutes of progress on multiple occasions because I forgot to save and my 3DS died on me while in sleep mode, but that's completely on me and not an issue with the game. You just learn to get better about quick saving more frequently than you might on a non-battery powered non-portable console.

I played DQ8 back on the PS2 when it first released, and loved it then. When I heard about it coming to the 3DS, I was excited at the prospect, then waited and waited and waited for it to finally be localized to the US. Finally, it's here, and it's exactly what I hoped for. Gameplay is much the same as before, though battles are now quicker, and you can now see monsters on the field instead of random battles. New story elements and characters have been added. Graphically, this is a masterpiece on the little engine that could that is the 3DS. Grainier and lower res than the original PS2 classic, the game still benefits from a good draw distance and the ability to see monsters on the field, which is pretty fantastic. Get this game! You won't regret it.

I really loved this game back on PS2 so buying the 3DS version was a no-brainer. The game has some great added content and looks and runs great on New 3DS. If you love RPGs this is one of the best ever.
