Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the fun gameplay, engaging story, and portability of Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, particularly praising the enhanced content and voice acting in this version. While some players missed the original orchestrated music from previous releases, many appreciated the removal of random encounters. The 3DS port is considered a success by many players.

Worth playing even if you've enjoyed the PS2 original! 3DS version has some neat new twists even for veteran players. But if it's your first time, this is a great RPG to play on the go!

DQ8 is an amazing game and this is no ordinary port to the 3DS. They've added new features like new characters, endings, and more. Being portable makes it even greater since you can play on the go. Although the original PS2 game is also available on smartphones, you just can't compete with the version for game systems like 3DS where you have much better controls and accuracy. No worry about crashing or inputs not going through.

I've spent 80+ hours on the original version of Dragon Quest VIII back in its PS2 heyday, so it's great to see this Level-5/Armor classic released in portable (not mobile phone) form with additional content: - Two new playable characters - Additional costumes - StreetPass and other Internet connectivity modes - BEST OF ALL, a speed up option to move battles along quickly - And more! Everyone's main complaint is that the music is MIDI and not the original North American orchestrated version - personally, I think the music change is noticeable yet still enjoyable. Don't let this classic adventure pass you by!

Awesome graphics doesn't even look like a 3ds game. Alot of items spells and weapons to get. Beware you have to grind here n there. But this is a top quality 3ds game

Love the updates to this version of DQ8. The original game was pretty hard, this new version makes changes that makes it easier to level up or avoid random encounters.

This game does an amazing job of taking the PS2 classic and fitting it on the 3DS. If you're a fan of the original or JRPGs in general you need to play this one.

Dragon Quest VIII was one of the better RPGs on the Playstation 2 and now it has been made portable with it being on the 3DS. It has a great cast of characters, fantastic music and very nice gameplay that will last you plenty of hours. Of course, the 3DS version adds a bunch of new stuff, like a new sidequest that allows you to take pictures of whatever you want, two new playable characters, a new dungeon and even some quality of life changes, such as having a Quick Save function and alchemy recipes being instant. A truly great experience has been made better.

Making its debut in 2004, Dragon Quest VIII remains a masterclass in JRPG design to this day. Though it largely remains the same game, a number of additions and quality-of-life changes(the ability to quicksave and a rewarding quest to take pictures across the world for example) make this the definitive version. I've played roughly 30 hours thus far and happily look forward to tripling that. Do the right thing and buy this game, not only because it's a total 10/10 but also to show Square Enix that Dragon Quest has a place in the West.

Dragon Warrior 9 came out on the DS right when the 3DS was arriving, so it is fitting that DQ8 comes out right before the switch. This is a nice port of a great PS2 game. Graphics are pretty good, story is great, and gameplay is classic. Fantastic game to play on your portable.
