I’m 40 hours play time and have loved every minute of it. Music is the main reason I pulled the trigger to get this game. It is just so catchy! Graphics arts are same as DBZ (same creator), so if your a DBZ fan that would be a plus. Even if your not, you’ll find it great. I especially love the goofy cartoon style on monster. Story is a bit meh, but you’ll love some/most character. Story has some good moments too. Combat is turn based which I’m not too fond of. But as you level up and get newer characters it becomes more interesting. Ps you can control your allies if you change the tactic settings (didn’t know about this until 10+ hours of gameplay lol).

Fantastic port of a great game, and really wonderful 5o play on the switch. Swapping between modes is so great. This is definitely my favorite dragon quest since DQ8. Now they just need to remaster and port that one to the switch and not leave the port Japanese only.

Incredible traditional JRPG and a must-play!

Dragon Quest XI must be played by anyone who loves traditional turn-based JRPGs. And since it is traditional, it's also a good game for people who want to dive into the genre for the first time. Like Final Fantasy games, you don't need to know anything about the previous titles in the franchise because the stories are for the most part disconnected. If you're deciding between the Switch version and the PS4 version, the Switch is the way to go. The ability to speed up battles, call your horse anywhere on the field, and craft items anywhere besides just a save point saves you so much time playing the game. You also get the new 2D-mode if you prefer a retro-styled playthrough, orchestrated versions of in-game music, more story content, and more. This game will last you over 100 hours if you're also looking for a good beefy game to sink into. The visuals are well-preserved in this game as well. I definitely recommend this to anyone!

I first off will say I have the PS4 version also and love the game as much if not more then DQVIII. Here you get full orchestra music versus the PS4 symphonic ost. I also love having a chance to play this in 16 bit retro 2D mode. If you have s Switch or Switch Lite and love the series or not you owe it to yourself to pick this title up.

This is honostly one of the best games I've ever played. I've had trouble getting into the Dragon Quest series in the past. This was the first one I beat. It's very new player friendly. You don't have to have played previous games in the series. There are many options to make it easier or harder, make battles faster and even automatic if that's your thing (it was mine) you can roll the first credits in 40-60 hours but then theirs plenty more (40 more) if you want the true ending and post game content. The story, graphics and voice acting is all top notch. Highly recommended.

I had never played a Dragon Quest game before this one. After playing Dragon Quest XI, I am sucked in and completely understand the appeal. This is a great, classic, JRPG with wonderful characters, satisfying combat, and a cute, fun, and eventually compelling story. This is a fabulous game to have with you on a commute or play before bed. Deep enough to really get into, but not altogether difficult or complicated. Every time I turn this game on, it gives me a reason to smile. Also, it runs great and looks wonderful on the switch.

Dragon Quest XI S is a once in a generation landmark JRPG experience that is 2nd to none. The gameplay, the characters, setting, music and everything are top notch. I played over 100 hours and wasn't bored once. Few games pull me into their world's as much as Dragon Quest XI did and it has easily been the most fun I've had on my Switch to date. I highly recommend this masterpiece

Only 10 hours in but this is a gem. The characters, music and voice acting are great. The story keeps things moving along and the battle system is nice that you can set it to only control the main PC. Being able to see all enemies in the overworld eliminates the frustrating random encounters of previous entries to let you move around at your own pace.

The Other Great Square-Enix RPG Series

Dragon Quest XI is a very traditional Dragon Quest game. Making fewer changes between entries than the average Final Fantasy, the series has certainly grown into modern consoles while respecting its NES roots. If you're new to Dragon Quest, it's one of the original Japanese RPGs with art by Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball Z). It plays exactly as you'd expect a classic JRPG to play. This is a port of the original PS4/3DS release, and it's kind of the best of both worlds. The graphics are downgraded (but hold up surprisingly well) on the Switch—light maps and textures are of a lower resolution, LoD settings have been tuned way down, and even world and character geometry has been simplified in comparison to the PS4 version. But this version has the additional 2D, "16-bit" mode, which is basically a whole new game with crossover points and the same story as the 3D mode. It's a solid port of an exceptional entry in one of the best and most important video game series ever. Probably worth getting.

Even though it released on the PS4 and Steam. I waited to get it on the switch and I must say I absolutely love it. The characters are charming and great. The soundtrack is better because of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra (its not the midi version). The ability to swap to retro 2D mode is a fun nostalgia addition. Akira Toriyama did an amazing job on character design. Also more RPGs on the switch.. is just an awesome :).

I haven't beaten the game yet, but so far it's great! Charming soundtrack and characters, interesting and fun combat, and just the right mix of new features and nostalgia. Speaking of nostalgia, the 16-bit mode is very well done! You can switch back and forth between 3D and 16-bit modes at save points. I could see that being a great way to add replay value if you've already played through the game on other consoles.

Great game, classic Dragon Quest experience. There really aren't many AAA turned based RPG's anymore so you have to appreciate that Dragon Quest still fills that void. This entry has a great story and is very long, I had over 100 hours in my first playthrough on the PS4, picked it up again on the Switch to have on vacations.

So Good I Bought it Twice

I originally bought this game digitally on the Nintendo e-shop on a whim, but I loved it so much I just had to own a physical copy. I'm a newcomer to the Dragon Quest franchise, but this game made me want to go back and play whatever previous titles I could get my hands on. Despite turn-based gameplay largely being seen as 'boring' compared to more contemporary ARPGs, there's something refreshing, yet nostalgic about DQXIS. The story starts of slow, not gonna lie, but once it gets rolling it's hard to stop playing. This game oozes with charm and character, and though the visuals are somewhat downgraded compared to the PS4 and PC versions, the QoL improvements and added content more than make up for it. The quality of the English dubbing is surprisingly competent, but there's always the Japanese audio if you decide the accents are a bit much. The only complaint I have is that the music can become rather loud and repetitive - I suggest turning it down to half volume and using the alternate DQVIII overworld music. Seriously, I adore everything about this game, just thinking about it makes me smile. I've played through it twice, clocking in 125 hours EACH playthrough, and I've not even touched the 2D Tickington segments. If you're a fan of JPRGs, this is a MUST play.
