This thing has come in handy multiple times. If for whatever reason you need to connect a SATA hard drive to your computer, this is the tool for you. Super easy to set up, just plug your hard drive in and plug the USB into your computer, no software or anything. Works with Linux, Mac, Windows, HBCD, anything that supports USB. Even if you have a hard drive too big to fit into the enclosure, you can just plug the circuit board into your hard drive connected and use it as is (this enclosure is basically two parts, one case that your HD just sets in, and the end to that case that has a board with a connector and a B-USB port that the cable connects to.) great tool, durable. Only thing is, the screws take a bit too long to screw in.but that's endurable.

I purchased this product for my sister to use as a spare hard drive, and storage. It was easy to setup and install. It has worked flawlessly so far. I would recommend this product.

I bought this enclosure to repair a corrupted disk because the laptop it was in wouldn't even boot. This was step up from using a bare SATA cable dangling out of a desktop machine. It performed flawlessly for the task. The enclosure is USB3 so it's pretty speedy. There are only two screws to deal with when installing the drive. The outer case is a smooth matte finish barely larger than the notebook drive so I am actually using it as an external hard drive now and I'm quite happy with it. I only need it as a repair tool once in a while so its second function as an external drive is a nice bonus.

With just a couple screws, you can quickly insert an old hard drive (or new) into it and plug it into a USB 3.0 plug on your computer, adding a nice external hard drive. This might also be useful if you have a laptop that you are getting ready to switch hard drives out of and need to connect your new one and ghost your old one onto. Especially nice to have around if you are upgrading a computer to a new SSD and you have your old SSD hard drive that you want to be able to continue to use, without it having to be inside your desktop computer, as we all have multiple computing devices these days it is nice to be able to have multiple external drives around.

I used this external hard drive case to retrieve docs and pix from my daughters laptop hard drive that stopped booting up because of a power loss during an update to the OS. The case is straight forward, plug and play and easy to use. Its made of aircraft aluminum probably used on like 9000 space missions so it feels nice and can take some abuse. I would've liked it to have a universal usb cord because I have a tendancy to misplace them. Not a big deal but a micro or mini usb to usb would be better than the proprietary connection to usb cord it uses. Its a little pricey but I'm pretty classy so that didn't bother me so much, or I was in a pinch and it was almost closing time. All in all satisfied with the product.

The box only says USB 3.0, I had to open the package in-store to find out it was backward compatible with USB 2.0. Being Best Buy's in-house brand, this was the cheapest option I could find to do a transfer for my hard drive upgrade. Not necessarily worth it for a 1-time use, but now I have it for next time. It worked fine, I let the copy run overnight, no overheating problems or anything. Some other upgrade kits come with software too, but the Mac has built-in Disk Utility that is really simple to use, so no reason to purchase extra software. If you are in the area (Virginia Beach), you can borrow mine to do your upgrade, save some cash. The new drive that I used it with and my system are listed in the related products.

I bought this as my lap top screen was failing I was able to pull the drive easily But had to ermine a few mire brackets before the drive would fit The drive slide right in and I was able to be up and running in a few minutes

I was upgrading some of my equipment from an old tower and old Macbook Pro. While transferring data from my old Macbook to a new MB, I needed to move the information on the old MB. Using this enclosure, I was able to transfer my data to my new Macbook Pro (retina). The USB 3.0 speeds are great for this enclosure! It doesn't disappoint! I use the drive primarily on a 15 inch Macbook Pro (with retina display) and the enclosure doesn't let me down. If you need a USB 3.0 enclosure fast, get this - you won't be disappointed! It looks reliable to use a scratch disk if you are into video editing and need additional space (assuming you need the 3.0 speeds; which most likely you will).

My HP laptop died and I used this product to transfer everything from the hard drive to another laptop. Cheaper than a repair, for sure, and very easy to do it.

Works fine, easy to put a drive in this enclosure. They even provided a mini screwdriver for removing the case screws. Unit is nice and small, I took my hard drive out of a laptop which had been severely melted in a fire. Removed the access door, removed a few screws and pulled out the drive. Hooked up the drive, plugged it into another laptop's USB port and was able to access all the data. Easy peasey.

It met my needs of having a way to take an old laptop drive and use it in another computer. I was surprised to see that there were no ventilation slots in the metal enclosure. I didn't use it enough to see if a drive would heat up - might be best used with an SSD. It was easy to install a drive into, it worked well. The USB3 interface obviously requires a computer with USB3.

At first I was torn because I've had huge problems with dynex products in the past, so I was going to hop down to another computer store in the area and see if they had any options. I Dr odds to just give it a try and condense my trip to one stop. I'm actually very pleased with this product. Installing amd swapping harddrives is cake. Its a great looking enclosure (if you hide that dynex logo). It does what it's supposed to do, nothing fancy, but I gave it 5 star features since it's USB 3.0

This was very easy to assemble and it even came with its own screw driver. Once I plugged it in the computer detected my old drive and I was able to use it immediately

I used the enclosure to clone my MacBook hard drive onto a new one and it worked perfectly! Installed the hard drive very easily and easy to remove the hard drive

I now have three of these drives and have purchased several more as gifts. The compact size makes bringing my media and other data on domestic and oversea trips. The drives function consistently well and I've yet to have a drive failure on Windows OS or Apple OS systems.

Great external hard drive with a good price. It was just what we needed!

This device is simple and works great. I had a computer with the motherboard failure, so I was able to remove the hard drive plug it into this device and recover all the information myself without having to pay someone else to do. Now I can use my old hard drive for extra storage.

I got a new laptop withing the past year, because my old one was pretty much trash. I had all my music and pictures on my old laptop, and I needed to get all my stuff off of it. I got the hard drive enclosure, hoping I could connect my old hard drive to my new laptop. I had a slight issue getting the piece attached, but it could just be that the hard drive itself was weirdly shaped. I was able to get it connected, but I couldn't move or touch it. It was very fast, and I am very satisfied.

This is a must-have for anyone who has more hard drives than just the one in their laptop. This is really handy when upgrading the hard drive in your laptop. You install the new hard drive in this enclosure, plug it in your laptop USB, and using an imaging software you make a mirror image. Once finished, take the drive out of your laptop and replace it with the one you just mirrored. You are ready to go with upgraded HDD. You can then continue to use the old HDD in this enclosure as an external storage (this is basically what all the external drives you can buy are).
