For a 2,5" enclosure, this is about as basic as it gets. No frills or extra bells and whistles, which also means less to go wrong. It's a single USB 3.0 (backwards compatible) connection that provides both power and data I/O, which is commonplace these days. Some enclosures require two USB connections, one for power and one for data, and will not work unless both are plugged in. This needs one connection. All USB 3.0 ports will work, but if you only have USB 2.0, MAKE SURE the port provides at least 5V DC. Most ports do, but those found on keyboards, monitors, and some USB hubs do not. The included USB 3.0 cable offers full USB 3.0 speeds, but it's only 2 feet long. The enclosure is also relatively thin and light, and offers no real physical protection for the drive beyond dust and the like. That is, there are no "mounts" or internal "caddy" to hold the drive in. It's held in by the internal SATA connector only. If you are gentle with it, which you SHOULD BE (since it's a hard drive in there, after all!) you won't have any problems!

I needed this to help restore a blown drive on another PC. This unit booted up and worked as needed.

My laptop died on me when it wouldn't boot. So I walked into Best Buy and the guy at Geek Squad tried his best but we finally concluded that the motherboard had given up. So he offered to retrieve the data for $50 from the hard drive. He was also kind enough to offer me some advice and said - get an enclosure and I could do it myself easily. So I walked over to the section and another associate helped me pick this Dynex enclosure out and he told me what to do. It was my first time doing it but it was really easy. remove hard drive, remove the enclosure top, connect top to hard drive, insert into enclosure, close the top (screws). DONE DEAL. plug in USB cable to enclosure; other end into new laptop and viola!!! the drive pops up as external drive. Nothing more to it. Have only used this a few weeks now so I cant attest to reliability. But if you need data urgently - then don't hesitate. If you want something for the long run, I don't know. Cheers

Case installation is easy. From beginner to tech, you will have no issues. Hardrive will wiggle slightly, but no connection issues. Led active when in use. And ascetics wise, its form fit and seems very durable.

Works great for what I needed it for, just pluged the old hard drive in the enclosure and pluged the USB into the laptop, it did its thing and I could read an write to the files on the hard drive.

Purchased this enclosure to help friends get data off hard drives from failed laptops. Small and very easy to set up. Even includes a screwdriver! Wish it had more ports (like firewire or thunderbolt) than just USB, but at least it is USB3.0.

My laptop motherboard was damaged beyond reasonable repair, however the hard drive was spared the catastrophe. I simply removed it from the damaged computer and inserted it into the Dynex - 2.5" Serial ATA Hard Drive Enclosure and plugged it into the USB port of my new computer. Presto, my old files were available to transfer to the new laptop.

I had a spare 2.5" 750GB HDD sitting around and found out the hard drives in my iMac were recalled and needed to be replaced. I needed to take it in for service ASAP, but I had to back up my data. I needed a quick solution and found this online. Made the purchase and pick it up at the store on my way home for work. Backed up the iMac that night and took it in for service the following morning. The product worked as advertised and I've had not issues using it. Once I got the iMac back from the Apple store, I restored all my data and continued using the 2.5" enclosure with my 750GB HD as my Time Machine drive. Couldn't be happier with the purchase and being able to pay online and pick it up in the store made the entire process even easier.

This enclosure for a laptop SATA drive is simple and straightforward to use. The end removes with 2 small screws - careful you don't drop them! - then just slide the drive inside and replace the end. One small hitch I had was not realizing that I needed to remove a small bracket (that helps hold the drive in place when it is inside the laptop) before the drive would fit inside the enclosure. Makes the drive a USB device so your storage is very portable. Double-click the "computer" icon to access the storage.

My laptop died and I needed a way to recover data from the old disk drive. I first looked for an adapter which would have been perfect but BB was sold out. Next I looked for a case for the old drive and this was the only one available so I purchased it. The drive fit the case but was not readily compatible with Windows 8. I had a lot of problems taking ownership of all the files I needed and after a couple of days got everything off the old disk. Now that I own the files the disk works fine.

Used to clone a laptop hard drive to a new disk, then swapped drives and now use my old drive in this as another external drive. Enclosure is simple enough and as sturdy as any external only drives.

This does the job of containing an old SSD drive I pulled from my laptop. The build quality is okay for plastic, but it was cheap and I'm confident that it will last for a number of years.

I went to Best Buy hoping they could help me recover my important data, and they did! It was suggested by a customer service representative that I try this product, and it worked! I thought I lost everything on my laptop after it got wet and wouldn't display. It would have cost a lot more money to try to have it fixed. The representative not only recommended that I try this product, but explained how to extract the hard drive from my laptop. It was very easy to use and I would recommend it to anyone. Great product you just need to get info of a laptop with a broken screen like I did. Easy to use and works flawless with no problems.

The hard drive was a great price which is a great start. I got home and it was very easy to hook up and get straight into using it. Works great for my laptop on the go.

I Bought this instead of paying someone to transfer my data when my laptop crashed. As long as HD isn't bad it's a very easy way to back up or save data.

So the laptop died and we wanted to get the pictures and files off the harddrive. Bought the hard drive enclosure and installed the hard drive plugged the usb cable into another computer and that's about all there is to say. It was more complicated to pull the hard drive out of the laptop than it was to install the hard drive in the enclosure. No problems and we're happy.

I bought this to be able to reuse the hard drive of my broken old laptop. It's pretty much straight forward. You open it, insert your hard drive then close it. It turns your drive into a portable external HDD. After formatting it, I plugged it on my Seagate dockstar and it was recognized immediately! I've been using it ever since as one of my network drives for my video collection and as a personal cloud. I was able to reuse an old part of my laptop and saved some money instead of buying another external HDD. I'm glad about this purchase.
