I read all of the reviews for this and bought it anyway. I just got this TV delivered today after buying it for $600 on black Friday. After reading reviews about ghosting for video games/sports I was worried, and rightfully so. I am a huge hockey fan and the ghosting issues were horrible. I was ready to send it back.
However, after I turned off the adaptive contrast and the Dynex Motion control the ghosting went away and the picture was just fine. I don't know what Dynex was thinking including this feature, but I was able to watch the rest of the game without issue. I believe that hockey benefits more from HD than any other sport, and it probably puts a TV to the test more than any other sport as well. After changing the settings, this TV passed the test.
The TV is heavy (as 55" TVs will be) and the sound is just fine for a flat screen. If you can afford a higher end TV, by all means get it. You really do get what you pay for. However, this TV will do the job if you are on a budget (just change the settings mentioned above). For $600, I would buy this TV every time.

I will be the first to admit I am a bargain shopper so finding this TV was so enticing given its price. After some mild research as Best Buy is the only place with Dynex TVs, my wife and I decided to give it a try and were very pleased with the outcome. Since we are working on furnishing a larger room, we only had a PS2 to play DVDs for the time being. The PS2 put out GREAT video and my wife and I were very surprised. Performance is much like a Samsung with the way the picture moves and reacts to colors. We have a Philips 42" (which we love as well) and that has a different overall picture motion compared to the Dynex. Colors are crisp, whites are super bright, and blacks are dark. We were also pleased to see the TV didn't have a reflective covering over the screen. Preferably, we don't like to see ourselves or any reflection on the TV screen when watching it. We connected the TV to Fios the other day and the HD looks great. It isn't super top tier picture quality but for the price, size, and picture, the TV is well worth the purchase. Only downside was getting it in the house. The TV weighs 100 LBs! Just make sure you are comfortable and safe when transporting it as we did the site to store pickup.

Purchased this Tv 2 weeks ago for 599$.. the 120hz,4 HDMI inputs, and price sold me. Was nervous about the ghosting issues but really haven't had any in the 2 weeks i have owned the TV i have only had 3 shows i have been watching that had the ghosting issue. Most of the ghosting issue got solved by turning off the 120hz... as of now i run on 60hz, Blu Ray's look amazing!. I play alot of PlayStation 3 and have had no issues with gaming, picture is great and no complaints! Tweak your picture setting's alot to get the best picture possible some stuff looks really good with one setting but not so good with other stuff. Overall very happy with the TV!

Purchased this TV and I just simply love it. Picture quality is good but cannot be compared to an LED (for it is way better than LCD). I hooked up both my gaming system and my mini MAC. it is amazing!
I have read other reviews and I can understand why people rate this one star. It has a lot to do with the HDMI cables. I noticed this right off the back when I had two different HDMI cables. This makes a huge difference.
This TV was easy to setup and I don't find it hard to use the advance settings. You can control the picture quality, very nice.
Sound quality is good. Surround sound is the way to go but for the price, is great!

I've been wanting a nice big flat screen for years but they were always prohibitively expensive so we've stuck with out old 36" tube TV. Even though I wasn't thinking of actually buying one I started checking out prices recently just to see how out of reach they were for me. I was surprised to see a 120hz LCD for such a low price. Last time I looked into TV prices I was happy to see that a 52" was down to $2,000 so $800 for a 55" seemed great to me.
Watching Netflix on our Xbox 360 was ok on the old TV but the show descriptions were pretty hard to read and reading some of the finer print on games was pretty much impossible with the old TV. Does this TV look as good a a $2,500 Samsung backlit LCD? No, of course not. Then again, there's no way I could talk my wife into letting me spend that much either. Not only that but when you have $800 to spend on a new TV your options are either go with OK but not great quality but big or great quality but small. Being as we sit almost 15' away from our TV, we wouldn't notice some of the finer details of a nicer TV anyway so we went big and couldn't be happier.
I can't comment how sports look on this TV as I've never actually seen any. We use the Xbox for games, movies, and TV shows so don't have cable. There are other reviews you can read for opinions on that.
One thing that isn't so great is that there are no internet apps for this TV. For some people that could be a downside but we didn't really care since we have our 360. It isn't a 3D TV either but at $800, what do you expect?
All in all, it's a great deal for a decent TV and I couldn't be happier. Since I did all the work hooking it up and hauling it home myself I was able to get the nice big HDTV that I've been wanting for years for $800. How cool is that?

I had to return 2 Dynex 46" tvs because of audio/video sync issues. Reluctantly tried this model and couldn't be happier. Crisp, sharp picture. Sound is ok, don't expect great sound from any flat screen tv. I have it running thru an Onkyo receiver so that isn't an issue. Remote and adjustment controls are very good. Guys this isn't a $2k tv. But for $599 it can't be beat. The Best Buy staff was VERY helpful throughout the process of returning both the other sets that had problems and even helping load this beast in my car. Very satisfied.

This TV went way beyond my expectations. I figured for the money it would be k and the picture would be so so, but let me tell you, I was totally wrong. The picture is crystal clear and the sound quality is perfect. I am very impressed with this tv and that is why I am giving it such high reviews. No please note, when we got the tv it has a feature that makes everything look live on the screen and that made me almost take it back, but after I figured out how to shut that off, the tv has been perfect. It is by far the best tv purchase that I have made and I have 4 flat screens so I know my tvs.. Anyway if you want a gigantic flat screen for a reasonable price, this is it...

After searching for a 55 inch TV to replace the 32 inch Insignia I had, I was really impressed by the Dynex TV I purchased. The price was great at $900 dollars and I believe the picture rivals TVs that are much more expensive. The only drawback is that the Comcast HD service I use with it only produces HD at 1080i which isn't as sharp, but when I switch over to the PS3 and 1080p, the image is amazing. Blue Ray movies and games are eye popping! With 4 HDMI, a PC input, and 2 each of composite and component connections, you can pretty much hook up anything to it. The only drawback is the level of sound it produces does not match the picture (not very loud). I would recommend investing in a good surround sound system. And for the price of the TV, you can!

For everyone having the ghosting problem, this is your solution:
Like someone else had mentioned, in order to get rid of the ghosting and bad motion blur you NEED a GOOD HDMI cable that (this is important) supports 120Hz!
Like everyone else, the TV looked pretty good for a few weeks, but then as time went by (for some of you it was instant) the bad ghosting problem become more and more a problem. I knew about the issue from the reviews however everyone said they were using HDMI cables and I only ever use component cables. For the price and the size of the TV, I didnt think anything of it. Once the problem started to happen I remembered that one review saying get a good HDMI cable. I did some research and found a nice Rocketfish cable for $50 on sale. Turns out, all HDMI cables DO NOT support 120Hz so the cheap ones you can buy at the store (and yes, the cheap ones cable companies like Time Warner give you) WILL work, but it will look terrible. Once I hooked that Rocketfish cable up, it was a world of difference! The picture, the improved lip sync, the brightness and ESPECIALLY the 120 Motion feature which was so smooth. It even eliminated the confusing ”phase“ option in the menu.
So instead of spending that extra $200-$400 on another TV, buy yourself a $50 HDMI cable that SUPPORTS 120Hz (check the back of the box, if it doesnt say it, probably doesnt!) play with the settings a bit and you will love the TV with a $800 price you cant go wrong with.
This TV doesnt deserve the bad rap its getting, so I wanted to make sure I shared this with you all. It's an EASY thing to overlook, and no one is really going to take the time to tell you to get a specific cable. I also recommend to always play with the settings on any TV as well, the standard ones are usually never quite right.

One week ago I bought a 46 Dynex ($499) and 55 inch Dynex 1080 ($799) and a 40 inch Toshiba($599). The 55 inch is clearer and a better picture than both the smaller screen TVs. The sound is good with an equalizer that really enhances the sound quality. The Toshiba sound is pathetic. There is no ghosting image on Directv HD or regular programming, and also with PS3 and X-box 360. Be sure to use good quality HDMI cables and not the cables supplied with the TV. The options are sufficient for most uses and even the factory settings look good. I would have liked a variable sound output jack so I could control the surround sound receiver volume using the TV volume. There are plenty of input jacks for accessories including 3 HDMI.
For the $799 price for a 55 inch it cannot be beat.
Of course you could spend $200-$400+ more and you may get a better quality picture, but after all spending 50% more for anything usually nets you better quality. It all depends on your budget.

Walked into a best buy looking for a TV, expecting to pay $1000 or more. Saw this on the floor, instantly bought it for the sale price of $649.
I don't watch much television, so I do not have a receiver that is HD capable for my directv. But the games....
The PS3 and XBOX 360 look stunning on this television. Even Wii games look way better on this TV. If you are a gamer looking for some bang for your buck, this is the TV for you.
Blu-ray looks fantastic on this television as well.
My one and only complaint about this TV is that it radiates massive amounts of heat. It is heating my living room all by itself now, I haven't had to cut my heater on since bringing this TV home.

I was stuck with needing a large TV after mine had broken. I chose this TV since money matters and I was unwilling to pay $1800 for the only TV that looked significantly better than this one in the store. The picture could be better and lacks in the quality of the blues & yellows that it produces. The on screen menu is pretty basic, the speakers are weak, and the font that's used for the setup menu's is horrible. With that said for $800 bux it looks nearly as good as any TV up to $1100 or so, at least to my eyes. One thing it does have going for it , is that the clarity of the picture is higher than some others costing much more. When you first see it in the store It won't look that great unless you ask for the remote so you can adjust the settings to be closer to a Samsung, LG, etc. Obviously it will never be quite as bright or as vivid (lacks blues & yellows) as the those brands but for me it was close enough that I could justify the several hundred dollar savings. If your a hardcore tech junkie this is not your TV. For anyone else it could represent a value, 1080p, 120hz, decent amount of inputs, friggin heavy duty stand, all for $800. Two final things it's heavy like 100lbs heavy, and the remote is a joke! Buy a universal at the same time if you don't already have one..

I stood in line at Best Buy on Black Friday to get this TV. I got it for $599.99! I will say that it's pretty heavy, especially with the base stand on it. The stand itself probably weighs 30 pounds, which is a good thing for a heavy TV like like this. The stand swivels left and right, which it kind of cool. I used a wall mount for mine and it looks awesome. It is a HUGE screen. It takes up almost the whole wall it's mounted on. It has 4 HDMI connections which is great. I will give the picture quality on HD cable a solid B. It does have a little pixeling going on with high speed camera moves, but overall the 120htz seems to do the job. The actual cable provider has a big part to play in the overall quality too. The picture quality on DVD is an A-. A DVD looks very good with much more realism than my old 720p LCD, but it's still an A- because the DVD cannot match a Blu Ray. Blue Ray performance is and A+! Simply stunning. The first movie we watched was Cars on Blu Ray. My wife and I were dumb founded how amazing it looked. Transformers 3 and Captain America were equally impressive. Netflix looks great on it too. A couple of picky points. It doesn't have an optical out, but my surround sound and Blu Ray do, so it doesn't effect me. The other thing is that the sound out of the speakers is kind of boxy, but I use a surround sound system, so again, it doesn't effect me. All in all I'm very happy with the purchase and would highly recommend it. For the money, you can't beat it.

I bought this TV on sale for $650 and could not be happier with it. The picture is amazing and was better than some of the other name brands (Samsung, LG, etc) for less than half the price. the 4 HDMI inputs are great and Blu-Ray movies are incredible to watch. I couldn't care less about the brand name, I just want a great picture. Dynex does exactly that for a lot less money. The only negative would be the sound on Blu-Rays, and that's easliy resolved with a sound bar. I'm looking into purchasing a smaller size model for my bedroom. Highly recommended!

Needed an upgrade in size for the living room, and being on a budget, wife was about to limit us to the 46/47" range.....then at BB we saw 2 things, the 18 month no interest AND this set for less than 800 bucks.....not just the $$ fact that upon checkout they actually gave us 36 months no interest, the set is awesome.....super easy to set up, mounting on the base was the toughest part......of course when you see the dynex next to the 1500 dollar sets in BB you see a difference, but man the picture is phenomenal in the living room. no complaints with sound, great picture with HD and gaming......couldnt be more pleased with the purchase!!

I am really happy with this purchase. I feel like I got a great deal and it was money well spent. It doesn't have all of the features of your top name brands but it does look really nice.
The picture quality is very good after adjusting the settings correctly. I used the THX optimizer off one of my DVDs to get the picture setup right. The 120HZ feature does cause some strange effects during some types of shows. It can easy be turned off if needed. It looks great during the day or night.
The sound quality is slightly above average for a LCD. It does get really loud but has basically no bass. If you really want a great sounding TV you will need an external speaker setup of some type.
The TV is really bare bones when it comes to the features presented in the menu. One thing I really miss is being able to "turn off" inputs so unused sources are skipped. It does have 3 HDMI ports in the back, 1 component, and 1 A/V. It also has 1 of each on the side plus VGA and co-axial. Very nice!
Be warned this comes in a VERY large box and it is really heavy! The base alone must weigh 40 pound to keep the tv from flipping over.

I would have to say this product by far has the best picture I have ever experienced. I didn't know what to expect when I got it home, but it was on sale for $649.00, so I couldn't pass it up. This set replaced my Samsung Plasma 1080p and I thought the plasma had a beautiful picture, but the Dynex blew it away. I am just amazed. The sound quality is ok, but I'm running sound through an audio receiver so it really doesn't matter. Overall, I am pleased with the picture, ease of setup, four HDMI connections, price and warranty offered by Best Buy. Thanks Best Buy.

I got this tv for the living room. We always wanted a big screen tv to watch movies. Let me tell you, this was a great bargain! The 4 year warranty is definitely a great price for this tv. You can't go wrong with that. Thanks best buy, for providing such a great product!!!
