Got this cable to work with my old HP Deskjet 960 and my new Lenovo laptop. Attached it to both devices and it downloaded drivers (or whatever) automatically. Was printing within one minute. Great!

Used this cable for years with my WinXP machine and it worked great with the driver included on the CD (still available for download from Dynex as well). When setting up the new computer with Windows 8, it poses a problem. I'd question a response from someone named Aaron on the Q&A page (answering an inquiry about Win7) that a cable needs no driver. If so, then why does this cable come with a driver CD? And why does Windows 8 (just like XP did) auto-install the cable as an IEE-1284 Controller when I plug in just the cable? This Aaron person further goes on to state that it ultimately depends on whether the actual device being connected is compatible. However, I know that HP has released a Win8 compatible driver for this printer (HP LJ 5M) and followed all steps to update it via Win8's update process in the printer properties. I think an additional compatibility problem may be whether your USB port is backward compatible with USB 1.1, which is what this cable is. However, that being said, I believe it is obvious that a Win8 driver is also needed. FWIW, I called Dynex support on the phone and was told that there is no Win8 driver available and that they may be releasing one shortly because they are getting a lot of requests from customers who have upgraded to Win8. I've chosen "No" on the recommendation, partially based on the fact that even Dynex tech support told me I might do better if I try a newer cable from Rocketfish (also a Best Buy brand). Even though the package says Works only with PC don't believe it. I hooked up HP 940c printer to my Mackbook Pro and it worked first time. No drivers to load (already installed in laptop).

This is my first Vista OS so I am still learning how to navigate around windows. Once I figured out how to download the drivers (from the hard drive itself), it took less than a minute from drivers installation to printing the test page. A prior review stated that this cable does work with HP printers. Well, it worked just fine for me. The information provided by a Best Buy employee to the unsatisfied prior reviewer (that it does NOT work with HP printers) is incorrect! I installed an HP DeskJet 870Cse.

Connected wife's Win 8.1 laptop to old BJ-200e. Followed instructions on web and, after I replaced the dried out print cartridge it worked. No issues PERIOD. Less expensive that other local store. Looks well made. Steps in case you are interested: (from Googled instructions. - Go to Printers and Devices, Stop auto scan and hit next - Select Manual install. - If your printer is not available have windows update its list of printers (and get a cup of tea or coffee) For the BJ-200e I selected BJ F200 and that worked. Printed test page w/o issue. Only downside is it was on clearance at the store, but I got and they price matched the web price w/o issue.

Just what I needed for a charge cord to replace the previous cable, wished they made them last longer.

The USB cable is easy to attach. The USB cable provides dependable transfer of data from computer to printer. The cost of the cable is in keeping with its need and perfromance.

I purchased this for an old hp printer with windows 8 . It hooked up great and printer works great as well

I've been using a Brother HL-1440 laser printer with my eMac without problems for years, but last night a bookcase fell against the back of the printer, damaging the jack where the USB cable from the eMac comes in. Rather than repairing the damaged jack, I wanted to connect the printer through its parallel jack. All the USB-to-parallel cables I found (including this one), however, say they are for "PC only" and I could not find any that even claimed to work with a Mac. I decided to give this one a try, and much to my delight, it couldn't have been easier to install and it works flawlessly. I just connected it, and it started working immediately (I didn't need to load any drivers or anything). My eMac is running Mac OS X (10.3.9).

plugged this cable into my old hp 722c printer and my dell inspiron running vista, installed printer to usb from new hardware prompt, and started printing. i bought an open package off the rack for 50% off, $14.99 instead of $29.99, so i'm very happy.

I need an adapter for an old lazer printer I had that was not not otherwise compatable with my new computer. This was perfect and does exactly what I need it to.

After driving 250 miles to the Best Buy in Farmington and this was the only usb to parallel cable they had. However this only works on Centronics 36 pin parallel connectors NOT regular 25 pin printer parallel cables. So after opening it 250 miles later, it didn't fit at all on any of 3 old printers and a scanner.

I have an old work horse of a printer - HP Laserjet 4V. It is working great thru parallel port. I wanted to connect it to another computer which does not have a parallel port. So I purchased this USB cable. But it was not compatible with my Windows 7 computer and this old printer. Maybe I expect too much from this cable. But it was disappointing. I have used another brand of similar cable with HP LaserJet 6L. That worked fine. But this particular brand did not work with HP LaserJet 4V.

Could not have been easier on Vista (SP1). Plug it into the printer and the computer. It installs the driver and the printer is ready to go. This was on an HP 2100 series LaserJet TN and Vista SP1.

Plugged in both ends, down loaded the driver, worked fine first time.

Was exactly what I needed to connect an older printer to my new computer. Simple to connect. Nice long cord.

My HP LazerJet 4L is the earliest model released. It has a cable coming out of the back with a 25-pin plug at the end. It does not have a plug in the back of the printer. This adapter does not work with it because of the configuration. I'm sure that there is another adapter out there that can handle the job. I attempted to purchase an adapter from memory and obviously, my memory failed. Best Buy was very helpful in getting the cable in a store that had it in stock. They were also kind enough to take it back and refund me my money.

I'm going to say upfront that I got an "open box" version of this item. That may be the reason for it not working. When I plugged the adapter into the computer, it recognized the USB device, but it would never recognize the printer on the parallel port end. It was also twice the price of one that I purchased the next day from another store that just worked perfectly and fit on the printer better.

Having bought new computer with Vista Home Premium, this would have answered all my problems with an old but extremely reliable HP 4P Laserjet. Tried everything and could not get it to work. Talked to a guru at Best But and was informed that it doesn't work with HP printers. Wish I'd known beforehand. Thanks to Best Buy's great return policy it was no real problem. Can not comment for other printers though, may work a charm.

I spent several hours, both consulting with other computer literate people and parallel connection users. Everything I tried failed, even reloaded drivers from HP but my LaserJet 4 would not listen to anything from the USB channel.
