We got it because out toyota's cd player died and only got the tape decker left; we needed something to hook up ipod to hear music.
pros: it does what it is supposed to do. Easy to work and good volume without having to play with it as other models reviews mention.
cons: you can hear a pretty loud hissing noise that is the cassette playing. You need to put music pretty loud to mask noice but beware not to put it too loud from ipod as we did this and almost blew our speakers (we heard pretty loud boom noices and did not know what it was-sounded like something exploded- until we figured it was speakers... :-( ).
It does not charge the ipod battery so make sure you have a lot of batttery if you inted to use it for long trips.

I am happy with this product. The sound is good, but midrange is a little weak. I was worried at first because I had read reviews that complained of background noise and popping sounds. I noticed both of these problems at first, but after turning down the volume on my iphone, turning off the iphone EQ, and using the car stereo to control volume and EQ, all the background noise and popping dissapeared. The cord that plugs into the iphone is very thin and feels flimsy, but overall a good product for the price!

I was replacing my old tape to car player, and I was honestly just looking to spend the least possible and hope to get the best outcome. This time around, it wasnt a good buy. It will definately play your music, but the quality isnt really there for me. My last one I had was the best with balancing highs and lows, and this one tends to have less umph in the product.
I believe I will be trying the sony one to see if I get better results with better performance

well this does the job i guess it does it as well as can be expected it is a cassette tape after all i by no means sound as good as having a CD player installed in your car but if that's all you can use it does work i would suggest using an FM transmitter or maybe even buying a new deck with a line in input that will sound much better than either of the other two

Not Worth It

I have had this adapter for a couple months now. At first when I would use it in the car, there was a noticeable clicking noise when in use. A little over two weeks ago the tape adapter would stop, start again, then stop, then play again. This process would go on until it either started playing smoothly again for a few minutes (and repeat the process) or the tape deck would spit the adapter out.
I eventually figured out that the problem is one of the wheels (with the little teeth that connects with the other wheels) in the adapter has become loose. I have no way of fixing it. In the mean time I have resorted to using my sisters Sony tape adapter. No problems there.
If you go the tape adapter route, you are better off spending a few dollars more on a better brand. I have used both Sony and Panasonic with no problems there.

So Far, So Good

The Best Buy salesperson said this was the easiest adaptor for me to use since I have an older car and he was right. The car volume must be turned up fairly high though. It is kind of expensive for the quality, but I've been very satisfied so far with the sound. I would recommend it.

HORRIBLE SOUND QUALITY

For those who are sensitive to sound and can pick up on even the slightest sound variances then save yourself the ear ache and DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM!! To give you and idea of how horrible this piece of plastic is, to the 8 year old rca cassette adapter i replaced it with (and stupidly threw away), the treble and bass in my car go from -9 to +9; with the old unit my settings were at Bass -3 and treb -9, AND with this inferior contraption i had to change them to bass +9 and treb -9 and I STILL heard more treb than bass @_@ So Yeah, over priced and overrated. Now excuse whilst I go and return this inferior object.

I've noticed that depending on the car, the cassette player may make a lot of noise. There's also a cassette noise over the speakers as well. Volume is also tricky to adjust with this adapter. Just like someone else said, best bet is to turn your car volume down and the ipod volume up the loudest to withhold the cassette static noise, but you wont be able to get maximum volume if you like your music loud. I've also noticed that my car tries to switch sides on the tape while my iPod is playing. I'm not sure if it's the cassette adapters problem or my car, but since my car is only 3 years old, I'm assuming it's the adaptor. So that's a little annoying but...All in all, it's a good product for the money.

Poor Sound Quality

I bought the Dynex™ CD/MD/MP3 Cassette Adapter to replace my old one that was approximately 3 years old. It worked well for about a week and suddenly started having issues with sound quality. I noticed if I pushed the jack into my IPOD and held it there it would improve so the connection between the jack and my IPOD wasn't good. After 2 weeks, the condition worsened until the item was practically useless never having a good connection.

I went into Best Buy looking to buy an ipod adapter for my truck. Looked at some of the prices and was shocked. No way was i paying $60 for some transmitter. I went to a sales rep and she pointed this out. I dont need any fancy wireless over the air play and charge cool color adapter. This is perfect. Plug it in to the cassette deck then into the ipod and you are good to go! $15 and its been a month and there hasnt been a problem whatsoever. Go buy it if your looking for the basics.

I wasn't expecting much from this adapter, for only $17 I thought it was worth seeing if I liked how it worked. I put it in my car and at first the sound was a little fuzzy. But one trick that is helpful is put the car stereo volume down low and the mp3 volume up to your liking, then you don't hear hardly any static at all. Well, at least this trick worked in my car. I would reccomend it. It beats paying $100 to listen to music in your car.
I hope i helped.

Not a great choice

This product has absolutely horrible sound quality. There is way too much feedback, or "static" sound. It is impossible to eliminate the static without also eliminating the vocals or treble sounds in the music. The volume level is also inconsistent between songs, so you constantly have to adjust the volume. It gets the job done and it's convenient, but not worth the money.

For me, it was either this or one of the radio adapters for my ipod. I had a radio adapter before, so I decided to try these. Great choice. The sound is so much crisper, and there is no interference at all. Only thing I've noticed is that, since I've owned mine fore over 7 months, there is a tiny bit of sound blurring. But for $20, this can't be beat.

The sound isn't quite cd quality, but it's still better than the radio. For less than $20, it's definitlely worth the money to not have to carry around three cases of cds. Especially for older cars that don't have cd players.

I used to get these things for 10 bucks, well almost 20 years ago...
It does what it is supposed to... Pop it in the cassette player, plug it into the MP3 player, adjust the EQ and you are set...

I have one 12" alpine type R in my car, and currently i am useing my monster tape adaptor, but it became very noisy after the teeth on the tape wheel was not working right... So i went and bought the dynex one while shopping around one day, went into my car plugged it into my ipod, and got no bass output what-so-ever... So then i went back to my monster and it worked completely fine... Dynex did not give me the sound quality i was looking for at all....

It worked for 20 minutes then it started to flip flop ... back and forth between side A & B.
I bought this to replace my Belkin Cassette Adaptor only becuase this P.OS. was the only product on the shelf in the Best Buy Store and I regret it. My belkin worked fine...I noticed the quality difference as soon as I opened the package...This thing is not worth one cent.

I had a sony cassette adaptor for my car that lasted more than a year with constant usage before it finally broke. But when i bought the Dynex Cassette Adaptor, to start off, the sound quality was horrible, and it broke within the first month that i had it!! It is cheaply made and definitely not worth the price. Pay the few extra dollars to get a name brand adaptor because Dynex is garbage!!!!
