    Capable and Powerful Vacuum

The Dyson Ball Animal 3 is a seriously capable vacuum cleaner. It’s light enough that I can clean areas that were really hard to get to, and powerful enough to clean everything very thoroughly. The ball feature makes this a very agile vacuum cleaner, so it’s easy to maneuver around, under and over everything. A great feature is the combination of cord length and hose length - I don’t have to unplug it from one room to go to another one. Finally, the accessories that come with it can handle all sorts of cleaning issues, including getting pet hair out of upholstery, and even brushing the hair out of the pet to begin with!

What you expect from a Dyson - does the job well

This vac is replacing a Dyson Stick V8 Animal, which is still fantastic to a degree. The stick is so good, but it's losing battery life again, and I felt like it was time to get a corded model instead of replacing the battery once again. It's heavy but surprisingly nimble for its size. I'm a petite person and I do fine on the hard floor but struggle a bit on the rug. However, it does a great job of picking up the dirt. I do feel like it's a bit overpriced, though. I expected it to be heavy, and I knew what I was paying for so, all in all, it's a nice vacuum. The dog attachment is cool. I use it on the sheepskin rugs, and my dog enjoys it. Oh, it is a noisy vac but so is the stick. It's a trade-off for power, I suppose.

This machine is a beast, regardless of where it is i can reach it. with a 50 foot cord and a stretchy hose you can suck anything up with little difficulty. To top it off the grooming the attachment is amazing for dogs like siberian huskies. I've got 2 and went from daily shedding to looking daily groomed. only downside is its a little heavy pushing around.

Wow, that's all I can say. It sucks up everything and I mean everything. My son dropped a bag of flour on the floor and it picked it up in 20 seconds. Great attachments, and it swizels around. I love it and well worth the money

Easy to operate. Very powerful with excellent suction. Hair does not get tangled, which is a huge improvement from our previous Dyson which was over 12 years old. The unit is pretty heavy though, which was a surprise. Overall, very pleased with this purchase

This has been a good vacuum an it does good on all surfaces. I do think the material could be better due to the price. The plastic can make noises from time to time and the handle area should have been thicker plastic.

Our old vacuum could barely suck up a feather that was floating around the room. It would take an hour to clean a small house. Now, with our new Dyson - Ball Animal 3, we're done in under 15 minutes! Love this vacuum!

My last pet Dyson was light, easy to maneuver & lasted for years. I finally had to get a new one but this model is heavy, very hard to maneuver & the hose attachment doesn’t suck anything up & it’s impossible to even pull out when you’re trying to use it. I get my fingers pinched constantly when even attempting to use the attachment. If you just use the main part of the vacuum it has great suction though. This costs way too much for the hose attachment not to work. What’s the point of all the extra attachments when you can’t even use them.

This vacuum cleaner is proficient in every aspect. However, when compared to a (any) different vacuum in the $100-$200 range, it really doesn't outperforms. In my opinion you would be better off saving a couple hundred dollars and get a more budget friendly vacuum that will perform similarly to this one. In short, I don't think it's worth being over $400. Good vacuum but hard to justify such high price point. Also, if you vacuum carpet with this... It becomes a workout lol. The suction power is so high that when you try to move the vacuum makes it feel a lot heavier.

Hi Roberto, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to hear that you're not having a 5-star experience with your Ball Animal 3 Extra. While we're thrilled to learn you found the performance and suction to be checks in the positive column, it does sound like you may have had some trouble with pushing the machine on thicker or more plush carpeting. The cleaner head is self adjusting, so it will automatically raise and lower to seal in suction across all floors. Sometimes issues can arise, where the brush bar will stop spinning, if the brush bar senses your carpeting fibers as an obstruction. This shuts off the brush bar motor, to prevent the motor from overheating. Another issue that can arise, is that the machine will feel hard to push. Thus is due to the machine's suction forming an air tight seal between the cleaner head and the floor. It's usually more common on thicker, more plush carpeting, carpets with thicker padding underneath or even area rugs. If you still have any questions or concerns that we can help to address, feel free to get in touch with us at askdysonUS@dyson.com.

      Best wishes,
      Kelly

After all of the fan fair and rave reviews from my wife who had one before we were married, I thought this would be a no brainer. I put it together, which was easy - especially using YouTube. Plugged it in and bingo it worked. Suction is great and the ball is pretty good but takes a little time to get used to. The issue is, compared to our previous Shark, it felt flimsy and a little cheap. I really thought this thing would be solid and well better made. Then it happened... the front assembly with the roller head started to come off while vacuuming. I put it back on easy enough, and then it happened again, and again and it still happens. We still use the vacuum but it's annoying with the roller head assembly coming off. I'd look to try out another vacuum next time. I had an Oreck once and it was great. Maybe I'll do that brand again. Wish I could return the Dyson.

Back to Dyson and I'm happy

I'd actually like to rate 4.5 but that's not an option. Old Dyson owner here. Being a dog owner I've had a lot of vacs over my time, I've had a lot of time period. My first vac I bought myself was a Kirby, I had that about 10 years. Then I had a string of more typical consumer store bought vacs that never pleased me that much. Then I got the Dyson DC15 Animal that I was extremely happy with, it went 15 years and a few replacement parts. Finally the plastic aged out. Replaced with one of the cheap Dyson wannabe vacs, twice. Not a great move, won't waste my time here on that junk. So now I returned to the rather pricey Dyson Ball series and I'm very happy again. Improvements for golden retriever owners (and like) are the advance beater bar that does not get hair wrapped around it. This part is awesome. Also awesome is the return to the Dyson ball maneuverability, the easy empty canister that actually fills properly and empties properly (something the cheap S brand vacs do not do), the unmatched attachments and of course the suction. A little towards the disappointing side is the all plastic chassis construction which makes the handle feel a little less substantial than the DC15. At first I felt like I might break it. Also not sure I'm happy about the new filtering, but the air that comes out of the vac seems to be extremely clean, that said it did from the DC15 as well. I'm happy I bought this, it actually was less expensive than the DC15 (in 2004) was and here we are nearly 20 years later. Biggest thing for me is not having the same substantial feel as the DC15 had and it doesn't roll on the rear wheels as well which you want to do when not actually using it. I think it's designed more towards hard floor vac and area rug use than our carpet that we honestly wish we didn't have and really want to replace, but it does work extremely well on our frieze carpet as well as the tile.

The only reason I have kept this vacuum is for it's amazing suction power. But that's where the pros end... The cons: this is a heavy machine that takes some arm and core strength to maneuver. The "clicking in" for the upright position is weak and a bit of an irritation to deal with. The vacuum is all plastic, which we all know doesn't last and it makes it seem cheap. The hose is very frustrating to deal with as well due to it's stiffness and awkward position. The thing that really gets me though is, when on carpet, the vacuum doesn't get things in front of it. Due to it's design, there is a 2" space that doesn't get vacuumed because of the spacer in front. So you have to get the edge tool out, mess with the hose, and do it that way. So the functionality is not one for ease... And I really wish it had a light for the price you pay. I'm hoping over time it will get a little easier to use. But we shall see. Dyson may need to go back to the drawing board on this one.
