Our 3rd Dyson. First, the good. The suction on this vacuum is awesome! It has real power. We like the handling of the Dyson ball type vacuums. The longer cord is awesome. Overall we are big fans of Dyson. And the not so good. While mechanically, this is an incredible machine, the attachments and parts are much cheaper than previous Dysons. The wand, attachments and hose are much cheaper made, the hose, incredibly stiff. But they all work well. The incredible suction is a challenge for small area rugs.

This vacuum is an end all be all. I bought the original Dyson Animal for my S/O earlier this year and thought it couldn’t get any better than that. I was wrong. The Animal 3 came out just a bit ago and I decided to get it for myself because I was so blown away by the first Animal Ball. The Animal 3 has so much suction it tried to pull the carpet off my stairs, (a good problem.) The brush roll works as advertised, I have not gotten a single piece of hair stuck in the brush roll so far. Not a single one. On top of that, it agitates the carpet insanely well, it BEATS the carpet to get all the dust and dirt out of it to the point that the carpet gets almost hit to the touch and the insane suction sucks it all up. I have two cats so I vacuum every day and it always amazes me what this vacuum pulls out of the carpet every single day. I had an older Shark vacuum that did a decent job, but absolutely nothing like this Dyson. On the first use my carpet was very noticeably softer. This Animal 3 has a more narrow motor head than the previous animals which concentrates the suction to a smaller area, essentially making it more effective. There is also a setting for low, medium, or high pile carpet which allows me to easily vacuum any rug in the house without the Dyson trying to eat the rug. I am an absolute fanatic about clean floors and this satisfies me in every way. A clean home is a happy home.

    Replacing an Oreck

I bought this vacuum to replace a 23 year old Oreck. I wanted a vacuum with a hose that could handle the dirt and hair of my family and our 2 dogs and 3 cats. OMG does it ever! My 2 main complaints are that it is very heavy and the hose is very stiff and not curved at all. The limited attachments are fine but I'd love something that makes it longer with a curve to make it easier to use. I am happy with my purchase, the suction is awesome.

Fantastic Vacuum With A Few Flaws

To start off, this vacuum sucks.......in a great way. There is absolutely amazing suction coming from this vacuum. When you switch it down to the maximum, it'll suck itself down the floor and make it a chore to push, if you wish, because the vacuum works that great. The de-tangling roll works fantastic too. There have been no issues with hair getting stuck on the roll. I have two Husky dogs and not only does fur not get stuck on the roll, but this vacuum gets it all. It's great and I can see why they call it an animal. It is an animal. Ok, now a few flaws.....at least for me. This vacuum is really plasticky. I know that's just normal manufacturing these days, but it is almost all plastic. To stand the vacuum up, you have to push the handle forward, the little rear wheels come down, and it clicks in place. Not huge on this as I've had the vacuum not click in place and come falling back down at me. You have to really click it in place, and again, because it's all plastic, I feel like I am going to break something. I also am not super huge into the wand setup. It's both easy to use, yet a bit cumbersome with how you have to click things out of place and the end is a solid piece. All in all though, this vacuum does what it's intended to do. It vacuums, and, it does it very well. I also really like the fact it has a 5 year warranty. If you have animals, or desire great suction, this is the vacuum for you. It will perform!

This vacuum has been a life-saving upgrade ever since I first purchased it. When the pandemic first started, I spent a lot of time at home. After almost a year of living alone, I decided to adopt two kittens. My apartment quickly became filled with pet hair, treats, and scattered litter. I knew I had to invest in a durable machine and I settled on the Animal 3 based on reviews. I have absolutely no regrets. If you take care of the vacuum, it will perform for years. I highly recommend!

This model is much less prone to tipping over when using the hose as a dusting attachment, which is welcome. Unfortunately, the area where the wand retracts into the hose still flexes. Because there is a weak seal between the base of the vacuum and the canister this still gets "harp seal" noises when you push the vacuum across the carpet because that seal is breaking. These vacuums also really need braided cables because the plastic is super sticky and often difficult to deal with. The redesigned beater housing has removed the wings from the earlier model so there are a couple less hang points for the cable, but there are still many including the back wheels and cable wrap. The beater housing is also taller than the v2 so some areas you might have been able to get into might be off limits. One other improvement that would be nice is a volume reduction. I also have a miele c1 and that vacuum is significantly quieter than this. Cleaning wise it works well, but it's mostly iterative over the ball animal 2 with some annoyances left.

I have other Dyson models and they are great! But this one is even better and it’s like they fixed the little flaws that the other ones had. The suction is amazing and I like that you can manually change the high for the carpet and hard floors. I’ve used it about 12 times already and still no hair wrapped around the brush head. Definitely give it a chance.

Love this Dyson vacuum! Lots of power and super-easy to clean, which I appreciate. The ball format occasionally is a bit clunky to maneuver but love how easy it is to use the extender to vacuum hard-to-reach places. My only wish is a written instruction manual. The included "manual" is way too minimalist; good online info is there but I prefer a booklet to refer to. Took too much time to figure out assembly and how to use. Having a more detailed user manual would be better.

So I've owned a Ball Animal 2 for about 3 yrs and have had a love/hate relationship with it. And having owned the Ball Animal 3 for almost a month now, I can honestly say I still have a love/hate relationship with this brand. I purchased the Animal 3 because I was glad to finally see that Dyson opted to change the Cleaning Head to what the UK variant has had for awhile now, which is having a carpet height selector. Now I really have to say that the Animal 3 has so much better suction with having the carpet height selector, but that also has a negative that I've found. I find it very difficult to turn now compared to the Animal 2 which turned on a dime. I will for sure keep it as I don't want to jump through the hoops of returning it, but I don't believe I will be making any future Dyson vacuum purchases in the future after this experience. The cost of these vacuums is very much on the high side and with that you would expect that they would do their own inhouse study/testing and they seem to have failed at this. In the end it basically comes down to the fact that the negatives outweigh the positives when compared to what you expect when making such an expensive purchase. Yes the suction is probably the best you'll ever have with any vacuum on the market BUT with negative costs. Being a "BALL" vacuum and unlike the Animal 2 that could turn easily, this thing is a major struggle to turn... NOT GOOD! The Animal 3 also has the same issues like the Animal 2 in that trying to use the hose is a chore on it's own. The suction is just so strong that you basically need to have the vacuum right next you or end up having to do things like... prop the vacuum around the corner of a wall and then stretch out the hose while also having some decent arm and upper body strength to do so with even minimal comfort. The "Cyclone" portion of the vacuum is a very poor design. Due to a common static charge while vacuuming, it allows for dust to build up in massive clumps within the Cyclone piece. You need to constantly bang the heck out of this piece while over a trash can in order to keep it even somewhat clean. And they don't make it so the Cyclone can be easily disassembled for cleaning which is a huge disappointment and failure within it's design. I also find it upsetting that even though Dyson offers a TON of accessories for these upright models... they don't offer one of the most common of accessories... a basic dusting brush! Yes it comes with a combo tool for crevice and dusting. They even offer a wide variety of other dusting attachments... ones that can twist for angled dusting, one that can bend etc etc... but then not your basic common everyday short dusting brush that's found on 99.9% of vacuums since they were invented. Really boggles my mind. No lie... since I still have the Animal 2, I took the combo tool from that one and ended up cutting off basically 80% of the crevice tool portion to make my own "basic short dusting brush!". Dyson if your listening: You should have listened to your customer base and address the issue with the hose being difficult to use. I'm sure there has to be a solution... maybe a hose that's not as stiff? Look into my "home modification" of the basic short dusting brush and release a factory version. And please look into the problem of the Animal 3 being so much harder to turn compared to the Animal 2.

Made this purchase after the shark stick vacuum I had stopped working. Wanted to go with an Upright Vacuum and researched one with strong suction power; as that was lacking on my previous vacuum. To my amazement this vacuum is not only powerful but it maneuvers just as swift as my stick with a little weight to it and picks up trap dirt in my high pile carpet efficiently. Love this purchase! Worth it!

With 8 animals this can really keep up with all the hair and dirt they all seem to track in. Never clogs the hose or gets stuck in the wheels. Has good turning radius. The hose is not the easiest to use when needing to bend. Wish the locking mechanism for it standing upright was a bit easier.
