I had an old Dyson that I wanted to replace and tried to find something cheaper or comparable. After a few months of failing to find something else, I came back to Dyson. There is no comparison. I have bad allergies and daughter has asthma. This vacuum sucks up anything you have trapped in your carpets or floors and is truly an edge-to-edge clean. The model is very similar to the animal just doesn't come with all the attachments and I believe the head is slightly different. Imthis vacuum traps dust and small particles very well and don't have any issues of it coming back out the vacuum. Based on research, I tried the Bissell CleanView 9596 and new Hoover React vacuums based on being great for allergy sufferers. The Hoover React was great at trapping allergens and getting dirt. The floor auto sense and the hose with lift away canister is what piqued my interest over getting another Dyson (and it being half the price tags of a new Dyson). The floor auto sense would keep switching back to hard floor even though my whole house is carpet except the kitchen and bathroom. It was a pain and I didn't even take advantage of the Bluetooth app. And the hose and lift away canister was just as bad. The hose does not extend enough for me and the idea of lifting the canister everytime I want to get behind the couch or on top of my tall book shelves was a deal breaker. The Bissell still blew out allergens and I was constantly sneezing and stuffed up while vacuuming - it did great vacuuming though. But they were no match to the Dyson. I tried different ways to match the 3 and each time, Dyson won. The canister is huge. The cord is long. The hose on the Dyson is long and flexible - can reach from ceiling to behind furniture and in between. It even fits all my attachments I've had from the previous Dyson so I saved even more there. When I saw this vacuum for half the price as a deal of the day, I jumped right on and have no regrets! Don't wait or think twice! It's worth the investment and you'll breathe and feel better too! :)

We had a DC28 Animal prior to this purchase and have enjoyed Dyson products up until this purchase. Within the first 3 times using it at home, there was a terrible burning smell like the motor was burning up. We called service and Dyson said it was normal and it was probably hair that was burning in the bristle brush area. They also said to avoid that smell - keep the brush area cleaned, so we did each and every time we used it afterward. Within the first 3 months of owning this, the entire unit stopped working. Service had us take it to a local repair shop where they had to replace the entire head assembly. This takes about a week to turn-around. I called and expressed my disappointment to Dyson at that time and informed them that I would like it noted that this was not a good start to a $400 vacuum. Fast forward to today (another 3 months of operation). The vacuum has stopped working again. Mind you, we have kept this as clean as possible by cleaning out the brush heads every time. Contacted service and they said to take it in for repair. I spent quite some time explaining to service that I would like a different model than this, I've been a customer for 6 years and have owned 3 different Dyson products. I requested that if they cannot provide a different model, than I would like a refund. I was then told that my 30 day trial period has expired and that there is nothing they can do to assist me but to take it in for warranty repair. I reminded them that I did call within the first 2 weeks to explain there was a burning smell and they never offered me to return it under their trial program. I should have just taken it back to Best Buy. I am extremely disappointed with Dyson and the way they are handling my $400 purchase. I would have expected a better product and especially better service from a company that prides themselves on their products. Because of this - I will NOT be buying a Dyson again and will look to their competitors just as I told the service rep on the phone.

This may turn out to be a rather lengthy review as I currently have a Gen1 and Gen2 original Dysons. This is replacing the Gen1 which still works fine but is beginning to see broken edges, clips, etc. WHY I LIKE Dysons - Simple - they just SUCK....dirt, debris... you get the point. Although the Gen1 & 2 were purchased as refurbs they have performed flawlessly. This is my first BALL and first NEW (not refurb) style so I'll try to note the differences along the way. First impressions of the NEW.. it is a little heavier but maybe a little flimsier feeling. I'll try to explain. The original design is more straight forward. Solid agitator connected to motor housing with fairly rigid canister and hose assembly attached to make a solid feeling vacuum assembly. While I personally think the "Ball" is a gimmicky engineering concept it proves to ROLL with less input from the user. Cornering is without question easier than the original units. This "Ball" concept inherently requires other parts to be more flexible so the rolling effect or tracking is accomplished withOUT any rigidity. This is why it has a more flimsy feel. With that being said, materials and actual quality build look top notch. Secondly, going back to why Dysons SUCK, this new unit definitely has more suction than either of the originals had when they were new (refurbs). The agitator on this Ball unit literally feels like it is stuck to the ground while the roller brush is PULLING the vacuum forward. Again, requiring very little input from the user except to steer and again with the ball concept very easily done!! Hope this new unit holds up to the 10 or so years that I've had the Gen1.

Dyson. One man, with a dream, to completely revolutionize the Vacuum industry. His company had on main slogan. Fix the problems the others seem to ignore. Now this hadn't always meant they did so. Many times they made there own problems. Many years of vacuum cleaners that seemed to only preform so-so. But now, all the pieces have come together. This new Dyson ball multifloor vacuum has everything necessary to make a great vacuum . Materials and Build quality; At first, this vacuum seamed very cheap. All the plastics creaked and flexed to much. But i later learned that was all part of the design. The Vacuum is made out of the same material that riot shields are made of. Plus a 5 year warranty on all parts is a huge bonus. Suction and airflow: With no bag to restrict air moment this vacuum really sucks. ( in a good way). An abundance of airflow truly can clean up any mess. Throughly cleaning carpets like the machines of the 50s and 60. Filtration: After using this machine for a month now, the pre motor filter is spotless. Almost all the dust is captured by this vacuum cleaners excellent cyclonic technology. And a HEPA post motor filter means the air that comes out of the machine is pure and fresh. Perfect for homes with pets or people with allergies. Carpet performance Dysons have always had awful brush rolls. Cheap plastic brushes that barely did a thing. Now however, this vacuum agitates the carpet violently. Thats a good thing for getting all that dirt and grit that you may not see. Don't be surprised if this bin fills up quick the first time you use it. Cons: No hight adjustment No suction control some awkward to use attachments. Conclusion; Overall , this is one of the best , if not the best vacuum on the market today. DONT PICK THE HIGHER TRIM ANIMAL VACUUM UNLESS YOU NEED THE EXTRA TOOLS. THE VACUUMS OTHER THAN A PURPLE COLOR ARE THE SAME.

Purchased a band new Dyson DC65 Multi Floor Vacuum on Nov 3, 2015 after using Hoover Vacuum for almost 10 years. I had high expectation from the new Dyson Vacuum DC65 since it was a quite expensive (over $500, x2 more expensive than Hoover) and popular. However, we are so disappointed with the quality, usability, moreover the life of the machine. Here are the reason why: 1) The Vacuum top section (handle and bin) does not stand well and keep falling down. 2) Vacuum bin keeps falling off from the vacuum body at least 2~3 times per vacuuming. 3) Vacuum bin’s top red switch broke after 1.5 year. Although we can still push it by using a pen. 4) Vacuum attachment does not have any suction…..happened TODAY. (a plastic parts was broken - see images) It’s been only 2 years and 5 months since we purchased it and it is already garbage. We have 2.5BR house with about 1700 sqft. Used DC65 just like the old Hoover vacuum machine. The fact is……..the Hoover was 1/2 price and lasted 8 more years than Dyson DC65. Dyson products might look good but the quality and the service sucks. THERE IS REASON WHY DYSON PROVIDES ONLY 6 MONTH WARRANTY!!! It's not worth the money and I do not recommend any of the Dyson products. DO NOT GET FOOLED BY THE PAID REVIEW WRITERS!!! Check other 1 star review.

    EXCELLENT SUCTION POWER!

I bought this during Black Friday because it was an awesome price and since I have been looking for a vacuum cleaner for a while, I decided to try out Dyson. I have only owned 2 vacuums in the last 20 years, a basic Oreck upright which I gave my parents and a Miele. Well, the Oreck finally died after 18 years so I needed to buy another my folks. I was a little skeptical about the product due to several negative reviews on the construction of the Dyson vacuums. To start, the vacuum cleaner came unassembled so it wasn't ready for use straight out of the box. And although it was not super complicated, the visual directions weren't the most descriptive, especially on how the machine starts. I thought I had done something wrong because when I plugged it in, the air/suction was blowing through the top where the handle is and the roller head was not turning. I happened to unlock the handle (take it out of the standing position) while I was searching for where I went wrong and in doing so engaged the roller head and suction to the canister! After a slow start, I will say that the vacuum cleaner did a an excellent job of suctioning up dirt. I vacuumed about 500 SQ feet of lightly treaded upon carpet that has been vacuumed regularly every 2 weeks. To my amazement, the canister was 1/3 full of dirt/dust! That was from one pass. That just means the vacuum cleaner I used in the past did not do a good job of suctioning up the dirt! I haven't had a chance to revacuum but am curious to see how much more will be picked up. The cleaner is constructed with what appears to be rather cheap plastic so I'm wondering how it will hold up with wear. There are no rubber bumpers to absorb any impact should you accidentally hit it up against something so that's a negative. The other negative is when you turn off the roller to vacuum a fine rug, the suction is so powerful that it's difficult to move the vacuum across the surface. But, it works well on non carpeted flooring. All in all, I'm pleased with the vacuum cleaner. I just hope that it will hold up in terms of durability.

I like this vac, but I'm still not 100% sold on it. My old Dyson DC-14 of about 10 years finally died on me, so I decided to replace it with another. I was pretty excited to see what had changed in the last 10 years, but I'm not sure everything was for the better. Pros: I like the low profile head on this vacuum as compared to the older models, it can get under stuff easily like my couch. I also like the ball, (although it takes a little getting used to), it turns on a dime. There's also no complaining about the suction power of this Dyson, it is a beast at what it does. I use it on carpet and tile, the self leveling head is nice for going from one to the other and back again. Cons: I absolutely hate the attachment hose. The hose on my old Dyson ripped open after a while and I get the feeling this will eventually too. I also hate having to push a button to extend and put back the extension wand, as well as doing the same when having to put on an attachment. To me it just seems overly complicated and it's a bit of a time waster when I only want to use it for a quick second. Another thing that drives me nuts is that sometimes the canister just falls off. This would happen to my old Dyson as well, I have no idea why this is so. Finally, when vacuuming and putting the unit back into an upright position, sometimes it doesn't take on the first try. You're supposed to push it forward until it clicks, but a lot of times it doesn't stay and it'll be interesting to see how that holds up over time. Overall it's a great vac, it just has a few annoyances that get under my skin.

This was on sale for deal of the day when i bought it. Wanted to changed it up a bit in terms of vacuuming my place. It does what others can't do and it is true. It picked up alot of dirt and left over debris that i did not see on the carpet. First the assembly was a little complicated but after looking at the instructions it was simple as turning on the microwave. But as soon as everything was put together i was trying to figure out how to get the head down after powering it up. Found out that you have to put pressure on top handle for the hind legs to fall down and the head to come down so it can be in vacuum mode to pick up stuff. I give it 4 stars would had been 4.5 stars but I didnt like the fact you have to put pressure on top for it release the hind legs down and to vacuum from there. I wished there was a release lever made there behind the vacuum where u can just push it down with your foot. Overall, i am impressed with the suction power and it does well when turning. It light when pushing and pulling but heavy when lifting upward to carry. Some parts i feel like its cheaply made but the engineering design that goes into this expensive vacuum is really impressive. And i hope to keep using Dyson vacuum for the next 10 years to go. It is a bit pricey even when it was deal of the day but for half off, and needed a powered vacuum that gets the job done. This was the one.

I have to admit, this vacuum really creates significant suction, more than any other vacuum I have ever had. If only it were actually practically usable, it would be great. That is where the issue with this vacuum lies, it was apparently designed by someone who never tried to clean anything. It works great for cleaning carpets in straight lines but it is god awful heavy, so good luck maneuvering this around on for example stairs. Using accessories like the crevice tool is near impossible, the spring coil in the hose is so strong that it is literally a workout to use it. You'll spend the entire time fighting the hose or causing the vacuum to fall over all the time. The hose is nothing short of a disaster and entirely unusable. I have had this vacuum for just about a year now and will be heading out today to just go buy a different vacuum, this one simply isn't usable.

I "invested" in one of the original Dyson vacuums back in like '03, and after a dozen years, some of the plastic bits were starting to crack from age, our housekeeper had managed to break the tab that held the bottom of the canister on (because when you can't figure out, of course you force it... sigh). However, it was an awesome vacuum, and did really well with my very long hair, cat hair, and my propensity to only vacuum once a month or so. ;) So, we looked into getting a new one. Wife's major complaint with the old Dyson was weight, but that wasn't a horribly big deal (we have a multi-level place, so carrying it up and down is a bit of a pain, but not bad). Consumer Reports didn't like the Dysons as much as some others, but when we looked at those, they all seemed heavier, or less capable, or whatever. They also said the bag-based vacuums were better, but I could never figure that out -- we fill the canister *constantly*, so using bags would be SUCH a hassle, not to mention ongoing expense. So we went with what we knew, although I wasn't particularly convinced about the "ball" design. Well, I wasn't disappointed! Thing sucks (in a good way) like a champ, the ball is easy to use (with a few minutes to get used to it). Works on hardwood better than I expected (I expected the ball design to slide too much). Vacuumed a single room and filled the canister (definitely glad we didn't go with a bag!) It will take a lot of convincing to get me to switch away from Dyson in the future!

After my current vacuum was going to crap, I decided I wanted to get a Dyson. My parents had a Dyson so I was familiar with it and always worked amazingly for me. So I had been looking on various websites, Target, Amazon, etc. a bit out of my price range, but BEST BUY is AMAZING for their deal on this one! I paid $218 total for the vacuum, and best of all? It was FREE shipping to Hawaii!! That’s almost unheard of!! So! I got to use my new Dyson today and in short it’s amazing! It covers a lot more ground than my last vacuum and moves so much more smoothly. My only complaint is that because I have ugly tile floors, I also own several rugs. One of which is a big 8x10 shag rug and this thing requires some real manpower (in my case, woman power ;) ) to get the job done. Definitely a good way to get some of the strength training Lol! And I’m very glad that it actually made my shag rug SO much fluffier, it was beginning to flatten and I was considering buying another new one but I think my new Dyson will allow for a longer lifespan! :) Overall, Definitely recommend this vacuum! Just make sure you can push this sucker on carpet!

I decided to replace my Dyson DC 17, not because it quit working but just because it’s making too much noise. I really regret buying this vacuum, from the extension to the way you can’t even roll it around without it breaking off the back wheels it’s been a real disappointment. Unlike my DC 17 we can’t keep the brush extension on at all times otherwise it sticks up the foot past the handle. Pulling out the handle extension trying to get dust bunnies more half the time you can’t even get a good suction on it because of the way the hose pinches at the top. Trying to lock the vacuum into an upright position is a pain in the butt, also when it’s locked in the up right position you can’t even wheel it around on the back wheels without it breaking because the lock isnt that strong. Overall the actual vacuuming is OK, it’s not definitely not an improvement from my DC 17, and had I been given the opportunity to try it before hand I would definitely sent it back. I bought this on sale at $179 and still feel ripped off! Can I get a new DC 17?!

Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. I'm sorry to learn of all the issues that you are experiencing with your Dyson Ball Multi Floor upright. In regards to the hose, I can confirm that we would essentially expect the hose to become more flexible with time and use. A few tips we can provide would be attaching your accessories directly to your hose, as this will also help expedite stretching the elasticity of the hose. Dyson vacuums are engineered with versatility in mind and attachments may be used on either the wand or directly on the machine itself for added convenience. Also, when stretching the hose out we would recommend starting by stretching the part of the hose that is nearest to the vacuum first when extending this part to clean your home.

There will generally be two clicks that you should get when putting the vacuum into the upright position. These clicks are not always noticeable unless put into the upright position at a slower speed. I would recommend putting the unit into the upright position at a slower pace in order to listen to the clicks that occur in order to troubleshoot the problem. One click will be the wheels of the vacuum going into place. The second click will be the wheels locking into place. It is important to ensure the second click occurs as without the second click, stabilizer wheels are not able to lock securely into place.

While we don't expect our valued owners to experience any issues with their machines, we are keen to help ensure your Dyson is working properly. Please feel free to reach out to us directly at askdysonus@dyson.com. Dyson is committed to customer satisfaction.

      Best wishes,

let down by the vacuum and the company

I purchased this vacuum a couple months ago while it was on sale for $100 off the regular price. i was looking at the shark but always wanted a dyson. i wish i would've returned it when i had the chance. the crevice tool was busted from the start which is alright, it was easily replaced. since then i found a hole in the rubber part on the side of my baseplate assembly that i emailed the company about 6 weeks ago. they sent a new assembly out right away but it was the wrong one. i have now gone over a month waiting for this piece to ship and haven't heard anything. and now, the ball is squeaking a lot when i'm using it. i'm not sure if that is a bad thing or not. i might have to check the screw on the side when i wash the filter, i'm not sure, but it's only a couple months old. i'm worried what the condition will be in a few years. the company has been less then exceptional. dyson talks about their warranty and customer service all the time. so far i'm not happy with the service and i might need all 5 years of the warranty if this thing keeps acting up. maybe i just got a bad one but at this point i wish i purchased the shark. be careful before spending a lot of extra money on these vacuums and use them before the return period is over to make sure you didn't get a lemon like i did. hopefully customer service will get back to me sometime this year.

Putting it together I thought it a little clunky and poorly constructed, eventually I got it together and I can say it's definitely not flimsy or poorly constructed. Vacuum head fell off a couple of time during the put together eventually everything came together and no glue require. Got to say it's pretty impressive. Vacuumed with my old, bag, unit and then ran the Dyson. Filled up about half way of the canister with dog air and carpet dust. GREAT SUCTION. So bag vacuum over Dyson - I think I'll give Dyson the thumbs up though emptying canister, definitely cleaner and easier to dump the bag than the dislodge the stuff in the canister and the bag lets me do more area before needed emptying than the Dyson. In my book, for the price point and functionality definitely happy with the Dyson. Withholding judgement on long term reliability - my bag unit has been holding it's own and going strong for almost 10 years, if I get that, or anywhere close to that reliability, from the Dyson, it's going to be my go do cleaner - Definitely NOT disappointed in it's performance. The Dyson is one great vacuum

So this is my first time buying a dyson vacuum and i must say i love it and i've only had it for one day. i used it the first day i brought it home and i was shocked to see how much my previous vacuum was leaving behind. i vacuumed my floors 3 times and every time it was sure to pick up dust. i never thought of getting a dyson before because to be honest i am a little cheap and this vacuum wasnt in that category for me. My husband works in cleaning and he was the one who actually convinced me into getting it. When we were at the store i was still browsing around other brands and thankfully was able to try a bissell and a dyson . After seeing that the bissell couldn't even pick up some staples that were on the floor and the dyson did i was sold. DYSON IT WAS. So far no regrets in paying a few dollars more to ensure a cleaner carpet.

After looking at these for years, I purchased one for my in-laws. The vacuum is fantastic as far as picking up a messy floor or carpet. My issue that I'm not thrilled with is that it truly is made with flimsy plastic for pieces that you'd use each time you empty the machine. I'd read it before purchasing but thought for this kind of money, I doubt that's the case. I was incorrect. It can be broken so easily. I'm worried with the poor eyesight of my in-laws, these parts may indeed be snapped plastic soon. In addition, it's a little clunky for an elderly person to use. (talking 70's and 80's) I love the ball and how it maneuvers everywhere but for an older person, it would be nice if it had a little better balance to it. That being said, I would truly purchase one for myself and plan to as soon as I have the cash. It does a wonderful job but I think it's like a princess and you need to use some kid gloves with it.

I decided to buy this vacuum because the other Dyson I have is way too small for the space that I have to vacuum. This vacuum is wonderful! It has very good suction, and the bagless dirt container is huge. I normally had to empty out the canister for my other one after vacuuming a small section. However, for this one, I can vacuum an entire room before I even fill up the canister halfway. Plus I have crazy shedding dogs. This picks up their fur very well. What I've noticed about Dyson vacuums is how well they've been engineered. This vacuum is simple and conplex at the same time. It is easy to use, easy to clean and easy to store. It's very easy to figure out where things belong on the Dyson like the attachments that this vacuum comes with. It's convenient that you can just click it right on the side of the body so that they are ready and available for use. It's also great that you can turn on or off the brush for when you're vacuuming tile or carpet. Overall, this is one well engineered machine. I recommend this to anyone looking for a simple and easy to use vacuum with powerful suction. Also, it comes with 5 years manufacturers warranty. How great is that?

The vac is just like any dyson product, has great suction, and seems like it might last, however it is very cheaply built, our old dyson is better built owned it from the time the cyclones came out. Still going strong just needs a replacement as it’s getting some age and they have discontinued a critical part that we need to fix the brush roll. The new dyson just don’t have the quality in it, dust bin handle is very flimsy, the hose attachment drive me nuts as it requires you to pull it out extend the wand from the tub, and then lock it in place, reverse for storing, the cord is short but still heavy duty, and the brush head just isn’t heavy enough to fluff my carpets. It just looks like it has been dusted so to speak! Picks up everything though! The kick stand wheels are a joke! You can’t roll this thing from room to room like the old ones, you have to pick it up and move it not kidding!

I am happy to hear that you're enjoying the suction and overall performance of your vacuum. Dyson Ball Multi Floor offers 270 air watts of powerful suction, along with our Dyson Ball technology, which makes it easier to steer into different places with a simple turn of a wrist. Your machine will also feature a wand and extension hose for use with cleaning up high, under furniture and in hard to reach areas. Attachments may be used on both the wand as well as directly on the hose for added versatility.

    It's a Dyson - It's worth the price!

Dyson pretty much set the standard for the modern vacuum cleaner... every other brand of vacuum I've looked at, purchased or considered purchasing tries in some way or another to look and function like a Dyson. Dyson is known for their engineering and technology and hence the premium price tag -- and it's the price tag that always prevented me from purchasing one and going with a knock-off. In fact I purchased a Hoover React recently instead of this Dyson but the Hoover was disappointing so I decided to bite the bullet and get this ball vacuum. I WILL NEVER LOOK BACK! This vacuum rocks and sucks dirt like a tornado... the same carpet I had just vacuumed with the Hoover React proved to still contain a lot of dust since the Dyson immediately started filling up with all kinds of "stuff" that Hoover didn't pick up. Needless to say, I returned the Hoover, and keeping the Dyson until the wheels fall off... and then I will buy another Dyson. This vacuum is IMPRESSIVE and you'll never know how dirty your floor is until you use a Dyson to vacuum it!

Let me start by saying this is a good vacuum. But... for the hype and the price they could do WAY better. It has excellent suction! Wow my old carpet has century old dirt sucked up that my old vacuum couldn't get to. There is not cord winder and the hooks the cord hangs on are flimsy and feel as though the could snap right off. The back wheels for rolling the unit when not in use don't click into place very easily. This is also the switch to turn on/off the hose unit. Why can't I select this feature with a push button instead off vacuum position? Because of this the top of handle where hose attachment hides will suck on your hand until you engage vacuum or turn off, lame, where's my switch? In the wheel position. The dust bucket attachments are flimsy and feel as though they could break off easily. I hate having to feel as though I have to treat my vacuum gently instead of man-handeling around. Works great but made with thin, low density plastic. Be careful with it.
