Great suction but wobbly and hose issues.

Before receiving this Dyson I had a pretty good vacuum that also ranks high in average customer reviews (made by a company with the name of an ocean fish made famous by a series of movies). In my review I’ll be using some comparison between the two. When I first unboxed the Dyson I noticed the simple directions to assemble the vacuum. They basically use pictures with no text which is fine since it’s just a few pieces to snap together. I looked it over to make sure everything looked ok and disassembled the filter/container area to make sure there was nothing else to take apart before trying it out. As easy as it sounds, the directions seem a little too dumbed down. Before even starting it up I noticed that the build quality seems to be lacking compared to my current vacuum. Lots of moving plastic parts and a somewhat wobbly vacuum that will fall over if not correctly locked into place. It’s wobbly and feels like it could fall with little effort. When I first started vacuuming I noticed that the vacuum is much heavier and harder to move over the carpet than my other vacuum which is self-propelled. I also noticed that it got hot, like it was putting off heat and it had a chemical smell coming from it. I assumed it was from it being new and went ahead and finished vacuuming the floor to notice that there was a tiny clear sand type substance that was all over the ball and bottom of the vacuum. I emptied the container to see more of the tiny clear particles in the container along with dirt, dust, hair and the normal things you get when vacuuming the floor. I figured that since it was my first time using it I would call customer service. Dyson customer service was very helpful in getting the vacuum registered and walking me thru some possible troubleshooting for the vacuum. They said that this is not normal and offered to replace it. This would involve me boxing it back up and shipping it back and waiting a few weeks for a replacement. I decided since it has a 5 year warranty that I would keep it and see if the problem persisted. I’ve vacuumed several times after this incident and have not noticed as much of the clear particles, but there’s still some there. That brings us to the vacuum. It did do an amazing job sucking up dirt and dust off of my floor. We don’t have animals and normally keep a clean house but this thing was doing some serious work. The amount of suction the Dyson had was quite impressive. It cleaned a lot of dust off of my floors that I didn’t think was there. Using the hose is a pain. The hose is very tightly installed in the vacuum and with the amount of suction and the weight and lack of sturdiness from the Dyson it’s almost impossible to remove it while the vacuum is running. It just springs right back into the vacuum, pulls the vacuum towards you or knocks the vacuum over because of the way it’s built. I tried the vacuum on both carpets and hard floors and it did a great job. Did it do better than the much cheaper vacuum that I purchased on sale? It seemed that way. Is it easier to operate than that cheaper vacuum? No. Pros on this vacuum: Suction strength. Wow. Easy cleaning/emptying canister House and air really “feels” cleaner after using Looks cool (C’mon this thing looks like a muscle car) Cons on this vacuum: Price Build quality Design quality (Hose and wobbly upright lock in design) Yes, my house felt cleaner after using the dyson. The vacuum is harder to use and push around than my previous vacuum. So if this is for someone with not a lot of arm strength I’d say you should weigh whether or not the suction power is worth the extra force needed to push it. The hose system is almost unusable unless I’m doing something really wrong. Maybe it will loosen up over time? With it’s current design I feel like it’s unusable on stairs due to the fact that the hose pulls so much on the unit that it is constantly in the way or feels like it’s going to fall. For that reason I’ll be keeping my other vacuum handy at least until the hose loosens up or I figure out a better method. Not sure why Dyson hasn’t worked up a solution for this. Maybe concentrating more on suction power than how it’s used. It’s kind of like having a car with so much torque that it rips the axles off. I’m giving the dyson 3 stars for suction and that it does exactly what it says. I’m deducting 2 stars for the hose being what it is and for the price which is much higher than other comparable vacuums on the market. If I could use this on my stairs without it springing back into my face I’d add another star.

Hi there, this is Krystal with Dyson. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on the Dyson Ball Multi floor 2. I m pleased to hear that you are satisfied with the amount of suction power this unit provides. With the amount of suction you get from this machine, you may find that it is picking up what your previous vacuum could not, which is why you may be seeing the dust. This will, over time. The same can be said about the hose. With it being new, some parts may be a little stiff.

As for the quality, please rest assured, Dyson machines are made from polycarbonate ABS which is the same material used in riot shields and crash helmets. We subject them to 50,000 hours of testing and 550 individual tests. All of this to ensure they can withstand a lifetime's hard use.

    Not what I expected...

As my family has used quite a few different vacuums in our house in the last few years, I was SO SO SO excited to get a Dyson and see for myself what was so great, I had always heard great things about them but just could never bite the bullet and purchase one. Now that I have used it a few times though, I am honestly disappointed, here is why. The packaging was impressive, that I will admit. But when it came time to assemble the Dyson, it was unnecessarily difficult. I am a very handy and mechanical minded person, I can do A LOT of things without the instructions, this one had me frustrated though. Both my mom and I got confused several times and the directions were not very helpful, very vague wording and the pictures lacked any helpful details. After about 15 minutes of messing around with it, it was finally built, but it did not feel very sturdy or well built. It then came time to plug it in and turn it on. When I hit the power button I heard the motor in it just very briefly move for a moment and then nothing. And when I say a very brief moment I really mean it, my mom who was standing about ten feet away did not even hear it happen. After another 5-10 minutes of unplugging it, plugging it back in, pressing the power button and the button next to it many times, and even removing the base from the rest of the machine to make sure it was assembled correctly. My mom then noticed that the lights in the room would not turn on either. We then realized it blew a circuit breaker. We have never had a home appliance do that before, not even when we had all the lights on in our basement, and running our big old carpet shampooer, with a handful of other electronics running, that just does not happen. After flipping the breaker back on, the vacuum turned on and never acted up again, it really was weird, that was strike two for me on this product. Now that I was actually using the product, I used it on every floor surface in our house which was carpet, tile, and hardwood. I will say, the self adjusting height option was pretty cool, it always seemed to be riding at the right height for whatever surface I was cleaning. The suction was also very impressive, there was a lot of very small particles in the dust container, smaller than what I usually see with our other vacuum. Also the carpet really did look cleaner and "fluffed" I guess is the word, it made it look slightly newer and fresher. Also impressive was the "ball" function, when I wanted to turn the vacuum, all I had to do was a simple turn of the wrist and the head of this vacuum did an even tighter than 90 degree turn to the side, it would start to curve back towards me slightly, it was like nothing I'd ever seen before and I did like it. But honestly the positives end there. The removable hose and attachments are awkward and not as easy to handle as other vacuums we have in our home. Overall, this vacuum does have a few positives going for it like the suction and the turning capabilities. But it falls pretty short on everything else. My biggest disappointment is the overall quality of the product. I cannot emphasize just how cheap and cheesy this product feels. In this price range, I expect a product to feel very study and strong. I call it the "fit and finish," and it really lacks, all the plastic feels very cheap and easily breakable. Especially in the removable debris cartridge, there is a ton of plastic pieces and hinges and clips and such, many seem unnecessary, and they all seem so fragile, I know eventually something will break. Also another big complaint I have is I guess what I would call the stance, the main hinge that either keeps the vacuum standing upright, or allows you to tilt it back to use the product, feels so weak, I have to really push it forward until I hear a few good strong clicks otherwise it falls backwards. It did that several times to me until I realized I really have to push it far forward and keep my hand there for a second to make sure it locked in place. Again this main hinge is a problem when I want to tilt the vacuum back on its back wheels to transport it somewhere. This is something that almost EVERY other vacuum on the market can handle but this one, the hinge just gives out and the vacuum head falls forward smacking the ground, I guess this product is just not meant to be pushed around while not being used, and instead carried? Either way it is inconvenient, this vacuum is not very light and what about the older people who may not be able to carry it? I know in the future when I need to buy another vacuum, or if a friend or family member asks my opinion on the options out there, as they so frequently do, I would easily tell them spend half the price of a Dyson as it is not worth the money at all, and go for the other big brand(s) on the market.

Dyson - Ball Multifloor 2 Bagless Upright Vacuum - Yellow/iron - Does it job what it was made to do. Putting the pieces together, once you take it out of the box, is pretty simple. The instruction manual provided pics, which made it easy. Also the instruction manual provides how to properly remove the two filters and clean them properly. I live in a pet-free household. However, as for the components/parts, that is another story. It would work more efficiently if it had a larger or longer size dust capacity collection bin, the bin capacity is small and the dust collection builds up fast, if you have not vacuum your carpets, specifically shag carpets for a long time. Also, the dust capacity collection bin & other important parts are made out of plastic, if you are not careful of handling the item(s), it may possibly crack or break easily, if you put too much pressure of releasing it, from the machine. It is best to clean the vacuum the first time after you first try it out. Then clean it again, every other third time thereafter, but it all depends how much dust is collected, after each use. You must pay close attention to the MAX line marked on the dust capacity collection bin, so you don't overflow it. Because, if you don't it takes a longer time to properly clean the bin and other sections of the vacuum due to the dust build-up. It clearly states do NOT use liquids to clean the vacuum or it will be damaged. Using a damp cloth to clean around the important plastic parts and sections, helps out. Other than that, the vacuum does it job it was made to do.

I have a dyson animal that is several years old. I love my animal however the cord is beginning to fray so I decided to buy another Dyson. I have two stories and I thought that I could keep one upstairs and one downstairs. I bought this online so I didn't check it out in advance. Pro is it does a good job picking up dirt. Cons are it is hard to maneuver, it is almost impossible to use on new carpet, it is a cheap plastic, and the dirt bin is not very big. We bought new carpet in one of our rooms (it is not overly plush or thick just what I would call normal) and it won't move across the carpet, you have to push it really hard. I guess that might be because it is sucking so hard. Unfortunately there is no way to adjust the height of the vacuum. I have no problem using my Animal on this carpet. As we are going to continue to replace our carpet through out our house this vacuum soon will be unusable for us. We can use it on our old carpet but that is because it is matted down from years of wear.

Have owned this vacuum for five months now and have already had it in for warranty repair. If you own a long haired pet as I do then this vacuum is not for you. As with any powered brush bar vacuum hair will become wrapped around the brush and will need removed. But with this model Dyson missed the boat on R&D and left an open gap between the bar and motor drive so hair can be pulled in and wrapped around behind the drive and brush to the point it will start to bind and get so hot the hair and bearings will start to burn. According to the repair service tech there is no fix for this and it will just keep doing it over and over and the repair will need done several times. Dyson even told me to just keep using it and bringing it for repair. If you do not own a pet I'am sure this vacuum will work fine but is was not built for the use around pet hair hope Dyson takes another look at their product and fixes the defect

Hi there, this is Krystal with Dyson. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on the Dyson Ball Multifloor 2. I am sorry to hear about the difficulty with the vacuum. This is certainly not the way we expect the machine to perform. While brushbar maintenance is required, it should not cause what you have described if cleaned occasionally.

    Strong Suction

I have always been a fan of Dyson products, this vacuum was to replace a 10 year old Dyson. I had to replace the filters several times, the roller brush once, and the on/off switch once on the old vacuum. We were just ready for an updated model. We tried the multi-floor bagless initially;it seemed a little lightweight, so the next day I traded it for a Dyson big ball total clean vacuum. Advantages: a heavier model, and no filters to change. It is a little harder to maneuver until I learned how to use it. Great suction on both. I can’t believe the amount of dust and dirt they both picked up. Very pleased with the Big Ball.

I am happy to hear how impressed you are with the suction on your machine. Dyson Ball Total Clean does feature the strongest suction among out uprights - 270 air watts, for tough tasks across all floors. Your machine will also feature a wand and extension hose for use with cleaning up high, under furniture and in hard to reach areas. Attachments may be used on both the wand as well as directly on the hose for added versatility.

Well I am a huge Dyson fan but this one missed the mark for me. I have a DC07 and it was time to upgrade due to all new carpet in the home. Don't get me wrong this unit works great as a vacuum but when you try and use the attachments it becomes more difficult. For example when trying to dust with the wand the unit continuously tips over if you wander more then a few inches from the main upright. A big deal for me so I returned the unit and went with a Shark. If you just want a really nice floor vacuum and don't need to use attachments this is for you if not there are others out there that work just as well.

good vacum overal. It's all plastic and for $300 plus it feels a little cheap. Hook the chord wraps up on is already bending and have it less than a month. takes a little getting used to controlling the turning of the ball. it really turns with very little effort. picks up dirt pretty well but you could honestly get the same result for half the price

Having had a Dyson previously I had high hopes for this unit to be better in about every way. The multi floor 2 is maneuverable on par with other Dyson units previously. Its not too heave and is easy to use. While the cleaning power is good, it is not great compared to other units I have tried including the current machine I have by another manufacturer. Also, the hose attachment is a little clunky and not as manageable. Overall this is a good vacuum but probably not the best in its price range.

Hi there, this is Krystal with Dyson. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on the Dyson Ball Multi floor 2 upright. I am sorry to hear that you are not fully satisfied with this vacuum. The Ball Multi floor 2 is our latest lightweight vacuum and has 245 air watts of powerful suction. With it being a lighter version of an upright, it will have slightly lower suction power, however, more suction than most vacuums.

I had a Dyson before this. I purchased this one instead of the Dyson Animal because of the reviews. I wish I had gone with my instinct and bought the other one. The container for the dirt is way too small for my home, I have to push it very hard to get it to stand upright and putting the hose back in after I take it out to clean an area is always a fight. It does clean well though.

I love my 1st Dyson vacuum but this one is not what I thought it would be. It works great on low carpet and floors but I also have a higher pile and I can't raise it up so it's a true workout to use. I also don't like the extension tools, they don't really work so great on my stairs which is why I bought this one. A bit disappointed!

Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. Thank you for sharing your review of the Dyson Ball Multi Floor 2 upright. I'm happy to hear how pleased you are with the performance of this vacuum, thus far in your use. This Dyson models features ball technology. This allows it to steer easily into difficult places with a simple turn of a wrist. The vacuum's key components have been engineered to fit inside the ball itself. This gives the machine a streamlined profile, allowing access to tight spaces and lowering its center of gravity to make it lighter in the hand. I'm sorry to learn that you have found this machine to be heavy and hard to maneuver.

Hi Dax, this is Kelly with Dyson. Thanks for taking the time to share your review of your Dyson Ball Multi Floor 2. It is very unusual to hear that your machine is clogging, and therefore losing suction, regularly in your everyday use. That being said, frequent obstructions in your machine may occur as a result of poor airflow, which can happen due to an existing obstruction or dirty filters. I am happy to let you know that most blockages are simple to remove and we find that most problems may be resolved through simple, yet effective troubleshooting at home. This is a great vacuum if you need to suck up a bowling ball. There is only automatic hight adjustment so you cant adjust it for a new carpet and it will wind up getting stretched out from all the pulling.

This vacuum works great but if you want attachmens, you have to buy separately. The ones included are basic. Also, the hose is too short, again forcing you to spend more money on an extension. This machine is expensive enough.

Love the suction this vacuum has, however it is a bit heavy and the hose is hard to use when you use the attachments with it.. I would re-think buying this again.

Hello Trixie, this is Kelly with Dyson. Thank you for writing your review on the Dyson Ball Multi Floor 2. I am happy to hear how impressed you are with the suction on your machine. Dyson Ball Multi Floor 2 offers 245 air watts of powerful suction, along with our Dyson Ball technology, which makes it easier to steer into different places with a simple turn of a wrist. Your machine will also feature a wand and extension hose for use with cleaning up high, under furniture and in hard to reach areas. Attachments may be used on both the wand as well as directly on the hose for added versatility. This will make cleaning more convenient and will also prevent tension and stress on the hose when performing different tasks where the wand is not needed. The vacuum is mostly hype in my opinion. I thought it would have a lot more suction. It isnt great on steps because the base is too big and the extentions for the hose done provide enough suction

Assembly was easy but the materials seems very weak and cheap especially for how expensive this brand is compared to others. Performance is ok but nothing special for the cost.
