I bit the bullet and bought the Dyson when I saw it on sale and have no regrets so far. We have a long haired dog and a short haired cat that manage to produce more hair between them on a daily basis than an 80's metal band on Propecia. Thankfully, the carpet is dog colored (beige) otherwise we'd be unable to go to work due to all the vacuuming we'd have to be doing. I guess because you SEE what you have vacuumed up the point is driven home - but it is very encouraging to see how much this thing sucks (and I mean that in the best possible way :-)). On the con side, it is a hefty bugger so when using it try not to push and pull, but follow it with a couple of steps. I also understand why they're not, but I miss the accessories being attached to the actual unit like my old canister vac. I have to remember to get the storage bag when I am vacuuming and bring it into each room, but I guess that qualifies as nit-picking. (This, and the cost is the reason this doesn't get a full five stars). What remains to be seen is how long it lasts - It's about two months old at this point. I'll post a follow up in about 15 years - watch this space. All in all, if you have the extra dough to spring for this - I would say do it. Wait for a sale if you can.

    Great Suction, loss of functionality

Vacuum has exceptional suction pulling out dog hair and layer upon layer of dirt. Best suction I have seen in a vacuum by far. I didn't know that much dirt lived inside my rug! Good riddance. I really miss 2 things from my old Dyson that I wish was included in this one. 1) None of the accessories and nozzles can fit onto the vacuum, meaning while you are vacuuming you can't quickly attach a nozzle, they give you a bag full of stuff you have to keep close to the vacuum or go search for the last place you put it. I would like to see at least one functional attachment able to attach to the vacuum itself. 2) I wish the vacuum locked into position. I often find myself putting it upright to lock it into place to take the ball off the ground to make it easier to move around after vacuuming only to find that as soon as i hit a bump it comes crashing to the ground. It doesn't lock very well and I miss the kick lever a lot to keep this from happening.

I have been looking for a vacuum for awhile. I did not like paying as much as I did, but now I'm glad I did. This vacuum has great suction, lightweight, and is very easy to use. This vacuum is well worth the money spent. Dyson also backs it up with a 5 year warranty.

We have owned 2 different Dyson models over the last 10 years. Our most recent one stopped sucking and we were able to exchange it for this model. I noticed a huge difference right away! Love it. The only con is that it's a little heavy to carry up and down the stairs.

The dyson vac works great. Easy assembly. Quiet and powerful. It comes with a lot of attachments for the wand that are very useful. The wand has a very impressive stretch length and the hose stores with ease.

I was hesitant to buy this vacuum after reading Consumer Reports but most of the issues they raised were based on an older model (for instance, they suggested the brush head could not be turned off). The cleaning power and suction is excellent. The weight of the unit is a little heavy so while the ball does provide great maneuverability it does take effort to control the movement given the weight. My main criticism is that the attachments and the means of connecting them are both awkward and when connected feel very flimsy. So, I will rate this as recommending to a friend but primarily for the use as a carpet vacuum and not for heavy use with the flimsy attachments.

Hi there. Thank you for your feedback. We greatly appreciate your support. Our Cinetic unit along with the attachments are made of ABS Plastic. ABS is a tough thermoplastic used to make light, rigid and moulded products. It has good shock absorbing properties and is used to make car bumpers, crash helmets and modern golf club heads. This vacuum is a dream come true. First time I used it I thought my carpets were pretty clean. Wrong! This vacuum picked up so much more dirt than my old one (a Hoover) that is only 3 years old. My carpets look more plush and much cleaner. Definitely worth the price!

I had an old dyson (the yellow one) and it finally gave out after having it for 15 years. It was my fault as i over extended the filter cleaning. Great news is that you don't have to worry about that on this vac. It works so well and I have been using it over a month and here in Florida you are always tracking in sand. It picks up the finest of dirt and sand. I love the fact that you do not have to replace any filters! The only drawback is the waste bin is not as large as my original but that does not bother me too much. It is a lot easier to maneuver as well. I purchased the one with all the attachments and they are great too. Especially when cleaning my ceiling fans and my blinds and air conditioning vents. Its a breeze and I have 12 foot ceilings! I expect this vac to last as long if not longer than my original. Its expensive but you get what you pay for. My original dyson was over 400.00 but again lasted 15 years! I can't say that for any of the vacs i had before my dyson!

Second Dyson purchase with no regrets. Convinced after I vacuumed the same carpeted area AFTER using a brand new Orek (my wife's favorite brand at the time). We were shocked at how much dust and dog hair the Dyson picked up. Still amazed (grossed out actually) by the amount of dirt this thing picks up, and I'm a bit of a clean freak. Able to use coupons and price match to my advantage on this particular model. Old unit still works great, just doesn't have the power of this one. Only negative is how cheap this feels. But with the abuse we put it through, it's still holding up without any issues. Do yourself a favor and try a Dyson, you won't regret it. Buy it, compare it and return it if you don't like it. However, I'm pretty sure you'll keep it.

This vacuum is a great buy! Our old vacuum died after 10 years and hasn't worked well for the last 2-3 years. The day we purchased the vacuum, we cleaned an area that we just cleaned with our previous vacuum and it pulled up a lot of dirt out of the carpet and upholstery. The way it moves takes time to get used to, but is more natural than the conventional vacuum and requires less effort. It's lighter and somewhat smaller than most. No adjustments required when switching between carpet heights. Overall, it's a great vacuum, even for the price.

Dyson vacs are great for showing how filthy your house really is. With pets & kids I vac nearly every other day. I had a dc25 animal for years until it fell apart. This big ball kinetic animal was the replacement. Cons - heavier, harder to turn, extension wand plastic not metal, smaller dirt capacity. Pros - power! Sucks up dirt and throw rugs like a champ!

I have gone through several cheaper vacuums over the past few years trying to save some money. I finally, bit the bullet and paid for a Dyson. Though I was leary in the beginning, I must say, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! This vacuum is worth every penny. I used my old one first and then went over my floors again with the Dyson. I couldn't believe how much more "stuff" came out of my carpet. Wish I had bought this sooner. It really SUCKS! I have 2 dogs and it gets all the hair up. You won't be disappointed. 5 yr warranty, just another bonus. On a side note, if you have back issues like myself, this is much easier to push!

Very strong suction, it is crazy how much dirt it can pull out of carpet :-0 It is pricy, but with the $140 price drop it made me try it out & I am very happy, I usually spend almost $300 every two years on a new vacuum, I hope to get the 5 years (warranty) out of this.

In general, everyone knows dyson is great. My complains about this vacuum are that the cord is always in the middle, it should be retractile as some other brands, and the canister is small, I would prefer a bigger canister, specially because we have pets that shed a lot. Besides that, the suction is great, and I think my house is neat clean with it.

The Secret Life of a Dyson

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I responded to this comment made 2 weeks ago, but was unable to attach my photo. "Kelly with Dyson" said: "... Dyson machines are made from polycarbonate ABS, which is same material used in riot shields and crash helmets. They are tough, so we subject them to 50,000 hours of testing and 550 individual tests – all to ensure that they can withstand a lifetime’s hard use." While I've generally loved my old Dyson, I love it a little less now that it's held together with ribbon. (The added preciousness is sadly negated by the added tediousness...) The plastic button that clicks the bin to the machine is the latest of the several small plastic pieces that've broken. Having to now depress the skinny little plunger directly to empty the bin is almost as unpleasant as untying and retying a ribbon. I was able to buy and install replacement parts for the previously broken pieces, one of which was the power switch--- but I haven't looked for this part yet. The Dyson has otherwise performed pretty well for 7 or 8 years--- which is not too bad for a vacuum. But for a vacuum that cost $600... I wouldn't call it phenomenal either. At any rate, I'm glad I came across these details concerning the high grade of plastic used by the manufacturer. I'd had no reason to suspect my Dyson of creeping while it was home alone on weekdays. I don't know the circumstances of how it came to be shot, or crashed... but I will certainly be less critical of its durability moving forward <3

The vacuum itself is amazing! the auto-adjusting height, and the suction make the vacuum pull things out of a rug that you'd swear was clean. The no-tangle attachment is pretty great too for furniture, especially if you have shedding dogs. I'd say my biggest annoyance though is that you can't just pull the vacuum out, plug it in, and use the hose to suck up something small real quick. The hose is also the cord reel, so to even start using the hose you must first completely unravel the cord. It's little, I know, but for the cost of this vacuum you'd think they'd have done some real world testing. Also, the ball doesn't steer very well on hardwood. Once you get the hang of turning your wrist to steer instead of your whole arm, it steers really well on carpet.

It does a great job and deep clean. I was amazed how clean the flooring looked after a single use. One complaint (and I had a previous dyson) is the canister itself gets dirty. Not the easiest to clean.
