A strained back and ringing in my ears were the first things I got from this vacuum. I had great hope for this vacuum, but it's not really the perfect fit. This, like my previous Dyson, actually has too much suction. Yes, that's right, when I called Dyson to tell them about my last Dyson that was their response. I have a frieze-type carpet. Basically it's just the newer term for what we called in the 70s shag carpet. One thing Dyson doesn't tell you is that this type of carpet doesn't play well with a vacuum with so much suction. As a result it takes an almost Herculean effort just to push the vacuum over the carpet. This new one has the same issue, although not as bad as the full-size ball-type Dyson that I'm replacing. But it still takes some effort. The great thing about this one is that it senses the type of flooring so that it ratchets up the power over carpet and eases back with hard flooring. But unlike the larger machine, this one does not have a way to switch off the roller, so on hard floors all it does is push around larger dirt particles. Not very efficient.
Another problem with this machine is that, while it has attachments to do almost anything, using it to clean anything above floor level requires more than a little strength. It is not a lightweight machine. So if you are considering this one you might ask a salesman if you can lift it first to see if you can.
One convenient feature is that on the main vacuuming tool -- the one you'll use 90% of the time for vacuuming the floor -- there is an adjustment switch to raise or lower the cleaning head. That's a nice touch, and it does help with the aforementioned difficult deep carpet. I raised it a bit so that it doesn't get bogged down as much as it did with the regular setting. Still tough to push at times, though.
Lastly, in addition to the usual whine of a vacuum motor, there is a higher-pitched squeal that the vacuum makes. It is really annoying and can hurt just a bit.
Does does make a good vacuum, but not all of them are good for all people. There are others out there that do the same job just as good for some situations, and they don't cost nearly as much.

Hello Philip, this is Kelly with Dyson. I was sorry to hear that you're not having a better experience with your Outsize Total Clean. This machine does have a bit more weight to it; thanks to the full size dust bin and larger floor tool. These allow you to vacuum more of your home, in less time than a smaller, lighter cord-free. With regard to your carpeting, we actually do recommend or suggest contacting your flooring manufacturer prior to not just purchasing a Dyson, but any vacuum. Different carpet makers may have guidelines for their flooring, including the suction power used to clean them, or even the use of a brush bar. Your Outsize's floor tool does also come with a suction control slider built right in to the front of the head, which allows you to make adjustments based on your flooring or the mess being picked up.
We'd value the opportunity to assist you, to make sure your Dyson is working properly. Please feel free to contact us directly at [email protected]. We're keen on providing you with support and learning more about your experience.
Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support

Amazing Dyson vacuum. I wish I've gotten this way before the v7 and slim. Tough machine and sucks out all the pet hair and carpet gunk. Love it!

Not sure which is my favorite part of this compared to previous versions? The additional suction? The extra battery? The canister size?
Our main level is hardwood, while the basement and upstairs are carpet. Between those settings, we'd run out of battery with our last Dyson, but now we can get all the areas done with only stopping to swap out the power. If you balk at spending the money, I understand. But until you use one, you don't understand HOW it is worth the money!

Bought this to use on the first floor of my house and kept a corded Dyson on the second floor. This one is so easy to use, that I end up taking upstairs.
The large head is awesome and the canister is huge compared to other cordless vacs. I have a golden retriever and with my old cordless, I was constantly having to empty the canister - not with this. I can usually do my entire first floor and only have to empty once.

Pros:
Pleased with this product.
Nice to go cordless.
Good assortment of accessories for different type of cleaning/surfaces.
Like the easy release on the waste bin.
Glad the unit comes with two rechargeable batteries.
Cons:
Gets heavy after a short period of time - noticed pain in my wrist and elbow after use.
Holding the trigger to operate gets tiring after a while.
Future recommendation:
Please create a locking mechanism for the power trigger.
For the price...Create some sort of storage for attachments on the charging/docking station to keep all of the items together.

I purchased this vacuum for my wife (she asked for it). Every time we use it the carpets and the hardwoods just feel so much cleaner. The price is a little steep, but with two cats and a toddler it's worth every penny. The vacuum comes with a number of accessories including a wall mount kit for easy charging (I just plug my batteries in at the wall outlet).

I love this vacuum! Always at the ready to run over the floor for a quick clean up. I can vacuum my whole house on one charge (on Eco mode), the only complaint is you have to hold the power trigger the whole time. I would guess this is so it does not sit and run the battery down if let go of the handle.
It was an investment and I don’t regret it. I use it more than my Electrolux

We've had a shark for 5 years that has worked great. We vacuumed with it, then immediately vacuumed again with this Dyson. We were amazed at what it picked up. With it's wall charger, it makes storage and use both convenient. Our only complaint is the trigger to start the vacuum. You have to hold it on the whole time you are vacuuming and it is in a little bit of an uncomfortable position. Other than that, no complaints!

I looked at a few reviews for this before purchasing. Most reviews focus on suction power, battery life, and the amount of material that is captured. It does not seem like reviews, or Dyson on any of their products, focuses on how it feels to actually use their product.
First, if you are primarily using this for carpet, you are going to want the highest power setting which will last around 7 minutes and 45 seconds on a full charge. That's very limiting compared to a traditional upright or canister, and it is not going to clean as well as a device you plug into the wall.
The main purpose I bought this for is dusting. After all, there are a few dusting attachments included. In addition to the unit being heavy, it is only center balanced if it has no attachments. I'm a guy, and this thing it very tiring to use as a dusting device because it's heavy and because there is forearm strength required to keep this device tilted level. It's also not at all usable for very tight spaces. The canister has a large diameter so navigating a bookshelf (even with the extension arm) means you're going to be limited by the circumference of the canister.
The place that this would shine is on a hardwood floor where you could run in the lower power setting for 40 minutes. But to be honest, I'm going to use my roborock for that function.
In all, I wish Dyson (and reviewers) would talk about how it feels to use the device and not just the metrics. Dyson definitely wins for suction and how easy it is to clean, but I could not recommend this to anyone unless they are using it on a hard wood floor.

This was a HUGE improvement from my Dyson Ball I got in 2010. More versatile, much quieter, and way more convenient since I don't need to plug it in. The attachments are great and the larger dustbin lasts quite awhile before I have to empty it.
Battery life is also great, as I was worried how long it would actually last, but the fact it comes with 2 batteries allayed my fears and makes this an easy value.

It was missing parts… I returned it a few hours after purchasing it only to find it was the last one. So I decided to go with the V15 again I got home and charged it up and the battery life is better than the previous V15 and the suction is much better too… I tried to update my review of the V15 but was not able.

My wife and I love this vacuum. We had our last Dyson for 10-12 years and I thought that one cleaned well. The suction this has is on another level. It pulled up dirt and dog hair that my old one missed.
It comes with a bunch of attachments to make cleaning awkward areas easier.
Overall it's really good, but one thing I hated was not having anywhere to store all the attachments that came in the box. I ended up spending another $100 on a stand/docking station, but it still couldn't hold every attachment. For the price, I'd expect some solution to storing everything together out of the box.

Wow! I own the V8 version of this as well. But I have to say this one really sucks in all the dirt. Love the display on top to show mode and battery status. Really impressed with the battery life if you leave it on medium/auto mode. Turbo mode will drain the battery quickly, but I have rarely found a need to turn the suction up that high for a long period of time.
