Dyson Big + Quiet for the Win!

Between the seasonal pollens, Canadian wildfire smoke and our dog’s dander, keeping air quality in our home has always been a challenge….until now. The Dyson Purifier Big + Quiet Formaldehyde air purifier has changed the way we keep our air quality at its highest possible level. We’ve tried several difference air purifiers, and most did a decent job but couldn’t handle the overall interior space needing support. The Dyson Purifier Big + Quiet is certainly that, and it’s the larger size and square footage support that really sold me on this purifier.
In the Box – 1 x Base Unit, 1 x HEPA H13 filter, 1 x activated carbon filter and 1 x Remote Control. Setup and user manuals can be downloaded with a QR code provided by Dyson.
Unboxing & Setup – Although the size of the box is a bit daunting, setup is a breeze. Dyson has always manufactured high quality equipment and this unit is no different. It’s solidly built and looks great. The design on the Big + Quiet is different from the traditional Dyson circular air purifiers and I find this model to be much more aesthetically pleasing. It is a bigger unit for sure, but fits nicely in the corner of our kitchen/living area. The colors are a bit different, but nothing too drastic. Assembly is basically putting two pieces together, the head unit and the filter or body. It clicks together once aligned properly, pick a location, and plug it in. There is a screen on the unit and combined with the included remote control, pretty much all functionality is supported. I prefer running the app, which is easily downloaded and connection with the unit took seconds to complete. We located our unit in a corner and aimed it across the room diagonally. There are caster wheels which make for easier moving and placement.
Features & Functionality – The purifier can be run on manual or automatic settings and there is a handful of adjustability in terms of the angle and power of the airflow. I’ve been running it on automatic and it’s great to know that the intelligent sensors pick up changes in the air quality and adjust the settings accordingly. One of the standouts for me is how quiet this system runs, even when the fan is set on 10. It’s far and away the most powerful and quiet air purifier I’ve owned. Settings can be adjusted with the included remote control or on the MyDyson App. The app was easy to download, and the unit connected via BT within seconds. The unit does remove formaldehyde, not sure if this is a real problem, but the piece of mind is reassuring.
Filters will eventually need to be replaced, the claimed life expectancy is 5 years for the HEPA filter and 2 years for the carbon filter. They are easy to replace and are available for purchase at Best Buy, Dyson, etc.
Pros:
- Dyson’s top-of-the-line build quality
- Ease of setup and overall unit configuration and use
- Manage the unit from anywhere with MyDyson App
- Large enough to support our open concept kitchen/living room area
- Very quiet, even when running on higher power settings
- Breeze mode is pretty cool
Cons:
- May be a bit large for smaller homes or apartments
Overall the Dyson Purifier Big + Quiet Formaldehyde is exactly as the name implies, it’s big and quiet while keeping your home’s air quality clean and chemical, dust and odor free! I would certainly recommend this purifier to anyone looking to support a large residential or commercial space.

Expensive unacceptable customer support

So if you do the math these units on paper should do a really good job overtime. The problem is their customer support does not stand behind their product. Mine started making a loud idling fan noise and they wanted me to ship it off and be without an air purifier for up to a month and some change. Yeah just get a different device.

I wanted to like this air purifier, but it released a sweet smell that was overwhelming if left running for a while. I ran it for many hours hoping it would diminish after some time, but it did not. I did not take notice of complaints like this, but they do exist. Check them out before buying, generally referred to as a “sweet yeast” smell. I ended up returning this.

I left the purifier running overnight and awoke to the living room smelling awful. It was pushing out air that had a gross smell. I will be returning this. I have 5 other Dyson air purifiers. This has not been an issue with any others and they've all cleaned the air well. Be aware if your home starts to smell that it could be this machine.

Sleek and Modern

The Dyson Big + Quiet Formaldehyde air purifier is an impressive addition to the Dyson product line.
As someone who is highly sensitive to airborne particles and allergens, I have tried many different air purifiers over the years, and I must say that this one stands out from the rest.
First of all, the design is sleek and modern, as is typical of Dyson products. It seamlessly blends into any room without looking bulky or out of place.
The air purifier is also surprisingly quiet, even on its highest setting. I've found that some air purifiers can be quite loud and disruptive to daily life, but the Dyson Big + Quiet Formaldehyde operates almost silently.
The real selling point of this air purifier, though, is its ability to remove formaldehyde from the air.
Formaldehyde is a colorless gas that is found in many household products, such as furniture, cleaning products, and even some types of insulation. It's a known carcinogen and can cause respiratory issues in some people.
The Dyson Big + Quiet Formaldehyde is HIGHLY effective at removing formaldehyde from the air, which gives me peace of mind knowing that my family and I are breathing cleaner air.
The only downside to this air purifier is its price. It's definitely on the higher end of the spectrum when it comes to air purifiers, but I do believe that it's worth the investment if you're someone who is sensitive to airborne particles and allergens. Plus, with its ability to remove formaldehyde from the air, it's a great investment in the long term health of your family.
I highly recommend the Dyson Big + Quiet Formaldehyde air purifier. Its sleek design, quiet operation, and ability to remove formaldehyde from the air make it stand out from other air purifiers on the market.
If you're in the market for an air purifier that truly delivers on its promises, the Dyson Big + Quiet Formaldehyde is definitely worth considering.

Living in the Bay Area comes with its ups and downs. One of the downsides being dirty air, especially if you have commercial areas near your home.
The Dyson Purifier Big + was just what our home needed to ensure that our air was clean, and most especially, provide formaldehyde protection. This is just a bit piece of mind for the safety of my family and mine.
The Dyson Purifier Big + Quiet is a good size unit that will require a bit of space in your home. But, not only does it do a great job at keeping your air clean, but it adds a touch of style to your home. The Dyson Purifier Big + Quiet is a great looking purifier (not going to lie, it reminds me of R2-D2 haha but classier haha). I placed it in one corner of my home and get lots of compliments from visitors. Many think it is a fancy surround sound system haha.
The initial setup is extremely easy. you download the app, follow super easy instructions, connect to your wifi, and you are ready to go. You'll have clean air in a matter of minutes.
The Dyson Purifier Big + Quiet really is quiet. Even at its highest setting of 10, its really quiet. The sound emitted is actually soothing. My wife often tells me that she likes the noise and helps her relax.
The only downside to the Dyson Purifier Big + Quiet would be the cost of replacement filters. But its worth the money to keep my family safe.
I would highly recommend the Dyson Purifier Big + Quiet.

This thing is pretty big and it's round so it kind of just sits somewhere. Hard to fit into the room decor. It doesn't look terrible and it also has wheels so it doesn't tend to get in the way in my experience. It's just big. And if you're buying online, while the product is large, holy wow is the box gigantic. If you have kids, you now have the added bonus of a new box fort for a while if you can find room somewhere in your house for it.
Setup was a breeze. The product comes in two pieces. The base and the top. The top just locks onto the base in only 1 orientation so you might have to rotate it a bit before it snaps into place. After that, just plug it in and you're off to the races.
Usage is pretty simple. The remote has all the functions like auto mode (so it cranks up the fans depending on how dirty the air is) or you can manually set a fan speed from 1-10. You can also "tilt" the output air from the top to 3 preset angles. It doesn't actually tilt the top at all, just the direction the air will flow out of it. You can have it perpendicular to the base like a normal fan. It defaults to basically the angle you see the top pointing at. Then you can also set it to shoot straight up into the air. This is pretty nice to help airflow. Combined with the wheels, it makes it easy to move the air flow around as you like.
The air cleaning seems to work well. Luckily, the day after hooking this thing up, I preheated our oven that had some very burnable food scraps left over inside and the oven started pouring out smoke. The sensors picked up the air quality and started kicking into high gear. It took a while to get back to a fully clear air quality, but it did get there. There was a LOT of smoke, though.
The filter is easy to change. It's a HUGE round filter that takes air in through the entire base. Compared to over air purifiers I've used that take air in on one side of the unit, I like that a lot.
The air intake combined with the wheels that let you move this around easily in the room you have it makes it really convenient to control. I don't know if the convenience is worth the price, but it does FEEL like a lot nicer air purifier than the other ones we have. I'll leave it up to you whether that's worth it to you.

Ive been a fan of all the Dyson products that I have used. My wand vacuum made by Dyson is truly my favorite experience for floor cleaning. Dyson to me does mean innovation. I've been interested in their air quality products for some time. Purification has been secondary to air flow and conditioning as I've been using other brands for purification so far. Since this promised purification with a good amount of flow I decided this would be worth a try. Overall, I'm very pleased. On auto it doesn't need to blow hard, but manually turning up the fan goves me that flow. The display on the center of the head is small but clear and colorful which helps to clarify what you're looking at. It even shows an animated graphic for getting to the filter to replace. Speaking of filters, I haven't had it long enough to know what the replacement cost of the filters are, but i habe usually taken the approach that air quality is worth a premium if it is a true improvement. My initial power up included the purifier analyzing the air to determine what it was facing. I was relieved to see for the most part i had pretty clean air. One thing this does that i have not had before is removing formaldehyde. Again it didn't detect this but I like that I have that for the future. There is a small remote with this unit, so you can adjust the fan speed from bed, for example. That is a nice feature. The one thing that I took a star for on this otherwise solid purifier has to do with the size. This is subjective, but this thing is huge. It is nice looking, modern I would say for that particular style, but it is not ideal for small spaces. I have a pretty small bedroom at the moment and this thing sits like a monolith in the corner. This has adantages, as surface area is key to filtering, but be prepared for housing this substantial purifier.

Breeze Mode Issues
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
It seems like most people are experiencing issues with the purifiers breeze mode making a creaking noise. I would avoid purchase until Dyson makes a statement noting that theyre aware of the issue and are resolving it. Mine also has this issue: it sounds like a cd player that got stuck changing discs when on breeze mode. Considering this is roughly 999$ without tax i would hold off or look for a more reliable alternative. If it werent for this issue this would have been a good (not great) purifier. Also reminder that this is NOT a fan.
