It was work to clean it after every use. If I ever do get this item again, I would buy a different model. It is good for something things, light dirt and some spills, but not good for other uses.

You may be interested to know our V6 Animal is balanced for floor to ceiling cleaning. This means balanced for cleaning up top, down below and in between. Our V6 Animal center of gravity is located towards the grip for easy, lightweight cleaning up top, down below and in between. All of our V6 cordless units do come switched on to MAX mode out of the box. The V6 should run between 16-20 minutes in regular mode and 6 minutes in max mode. While some customers use the V6 as their sole vacuum at home, the V6 line was designed with quick pick-ups in mind. Worked for 6 months

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This is our second Dyson purchase this year. We purchased a multi-surface Dyson in March 2015. I didn't know how much cat hair and carpet fiber I was missing!. It is heavy and awkward on stairs. We have used an Ergonomics for the past 7 years on vinyl floors but the suction has been getting weaker even with replacing the filter unit. So I looked at Dyson cordless models. I had orginally wanted the Motorhead model but for the same price my husband wanted the more expensive Animal V-6 cordless. I read reviews and agree that the waste compartment is small. This machine like it's big daddy models really extract hair and fibers and dirt and crumbs from the surface it is being used on, so the waste container gets full quickly. It is easy to empty. It is lighter weight than the multifloor model we have. I bought it to do our carpeted staircases (I keep a wastebasket nearby) and cat sand around litter boxes on ceramic tile. Because of the beater bar it is not for use on wood floors. The charge has lasted and I have not had the unit 'die' on me. It is always charged up and ready for me or my husband to use. Instructions tell you to take out the filter and rinse once a month. It needs 24 hours to dry. I however need the machine on a daily-hourly basis so I have found this hard to work-in in a 24 hour period. I do own a broom and dustpan and use these when the Dyson is not available during this time. It works well for what I want but it is not maintenance free.

Not as good as the Shark vacuum

I'm giving it 2 stars for design and convenience but the suction power won't even get close to my current shark vacuum. I intended to replace the 3 y/o vacuum with this one. Had to return it to get the bigger Dyson which also failed to meet my expectations.

Posted .Hi, this is Aimee with Dyson. I am sorry to hear of the unusual experience you had with your V6 Animal cordless vacuum. The run time of the battery should be 6-7 minutes on Max mode, and 17-20 minutes on standard power mode. You can tell if the machine is on Max mode by the LED light on the back. Should the machine be set to Max power, you can simply pull the power trigger and at the same time press and hold the Max button. Maybe I got a lemon, but I was very unimpressed.

Thank you for taking the time to review your V6 Animal. It is disappointing to hear you are not impressed with the machine after encountering the temperature indicator. This safety feature occurs when the machine is over or under the operating temperature and avoids any damage from occurring to the motor. We always advising allowing the machine to cool down for 2 - 3 minutes before replacing the machine back on the charger assembly. This will also help to prolong and extend the life of the battery.
