It does a great job getting up animal hair without having to pull out the big vacuum, however, the battery life is awful. I've yet to be able to run it for more than 10 minutes without it overheating and shutting off.

I am happy to hear how convenient you have found this vacuum to be, thus far in your use. Our cordless models feature a run-time enhancing trigger, hygienic bin emptying, and a variety of tools and attachments to tackle varying cleaning tasks.
All of the Dyson V6 cordless vacuums have a run-time enhancing trigger. Battery power is only used when the trigger is pushed – it is not wasted when moving from room to room, or moving around obstacles. All of our cordless units do come switched on to MAX mode out of the box, otherwise, when not set to MAX mode, a full charge gives 20 minutes of fade free power or 17 minutes when using the motorized floor tool.
