Posted .Hi Sam, this is Kelly with Dyson. The Dyson V7 Animal cordless vacuum cleaner has a run-time enhancing trigger. Battery power is only used when the trigger is pushed – it is not wasted when moving from room to room, or moving around obstacles. All of our cordless units do come switched on to MAX mode out of the box, otherwise, when not set to MAX mode, a full charge gives 30 minutes of fade free power or 20 minutes when using the motorized floor tool.
When using your machine in MAX with the direct-drive Motorhead, run time will be approximately 7 minutes. Dyson Animal variants come equipped with a mini motorized head which is designed to pick up pet hair from furniture and stairs. You can also use this tool with the machine in MAX power for optimum pick-up, if you find that standard power is leaving pet hair behind.

Horrible Customer Service

If it breaks or after the 14 day return policy. Too bad! They won't return it. I would go to costco before I ever bought anything here again.

Battery Issue

In just over 1 year the unit keeps shutting off after a minute. Every several charges it will kick in to normal. It is really a crap shoot.

With regard to battery life on our V7, your machine features two power modes, regular and MAX. Right out of the box, the machine will be set to MAX power, which provides a generous boost of suction power to tackle more stubborn messes or larger debris. In this mode, your run time will be up to 7 minutes. For everyday household vacuuming, regular power mode will provide sufficient suction, along with 20-30 minutes of run time, depending on the tool being used.

While regular power is suitable for most household messes, you may find that some debris is more stubborn to pick up and does require MAX power mode. While in MAX power, your unit will receive a boost of power, making suction more powerful. When fully charged, you can expect run time from 7-30 minutes, depending on which suction mode and tools you are using.

Not good on hardwood floors

We tried locating where they were coming from on the vacuum but were unable too. We traded it in for the hardwood floor only device.

Not what i expected

Love Dyson but not this one.
