Battery power is only used when the trigger is pushed – it is not wasted when moving from room to room, or moving around obstacles. We know that battery run time is a very important aspect of performance for our owners, so we developed a trigger that helps maximize the amount of time you can clean on one charge. We chose a light-touch trigger over an on/off switch to ensure that battery life is never wasted by letting the machine run when it's not in active use. I can also confirm that our cord-free machines do not have a locking cleaner head so the machine will not lock into an upright position, allowing it to stand in place.

Not for carpets

Read reviews and you’ll see this is a common issue. The adjustable height brackets creates a suction seal at the bottom that makes it extremely hard to move the vacuum when on a carpeted surface. Excellent on other surfaces, just not carpet.

The V7 Animal features the direct-drive cleanerhead, which includes filaments to drive deep into carpet fibers to grab ground-in dirt and debris, and can be used on most carpet and flooring types. However, we are unable to test our machines on every single permutation out there. We always recommend consulting your carpet/flooring manufacturer before using your Dyson or any new vacuum cleaner.

Battery power is only used the the trigger is pushed, which saves your battery when moving from room to room, or having to move around obstacles like heavier furniture. All of our cordless machines do come switched to MAX mode out of the box, otherwise, when not set to MAX mode, a full charge gives up to 30 minutes of fade free power or up to 20 minutes when using the motorized floor tool.

It would stop on any type of carpet. It was returned and we bought a Shark. It does what this vacuum would not do and was cheaper.

Depending on the thickness and pile of the carpets, the brush bar may sense the carpeting fibers as an obstruction, causing the motor to stop spinning to prevent damage to the brush bar motor. Disappointed with On/Off trigger

We already have a Dyson Animal Bigball corded vacuum and it is wonderful for picking up pet hair off carpet and hardwood floors. But with 2 large dogs that shed alot, I also needed something that I could grab easily for quick clean ups. So we decided to invest in this Dyson v7 Animal cordless vacuum. Everthing is as advertised, it is fairly light, easy to use attachments, and vacuums great. UNFORTUNATELY, there is no actual On/Off switch. In order, to use the vacuum, you must keep constant pressure on a trigger button which after a minute or so becomes quite uncomfortable. I found myself alternating hands in order to rest the other hand. The weight of the motor would be fine but trying to grip the trigger and support the vacuum itself can become a bit much for longer periods of time. Very disappointed that I will be returning and looking for an alternate cordless vacuum. Will have to return.
