Dyson V8: The Undisputed Handheld Vacuum CHAMPION!

REFERENCE FOR EVALUATION: The Dyson V8 Animal Cord-free Vacuum wields higher suction power than some plug-in upright vacuums: 115AW (Air Watts, the measurement of suction power). I own 4) of the Dyson previous top handheld model, the V6 Absolute (100AW) & 3) Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal+Allergy upright vacuums (180AW). I picked up a V8 Animal to replace one of the older V6 Absolute vacuums (we are a multi-cat household & have a very messy bird). COMPARING THE V8 ANIMAL TO THE V6: 1- The V8 Animal has a larger 0.14 gallon Dust / Dirt Bin than the 0.11 gallon bin on the V6 - a very welcome improvement! 2- The V8 is much quieter & has a "mellow" sound, compared with the older noisy / "raspy" sounding V6 (the V6 sound didn't bother me until I heard the V8 - WOW!! The sound is reduced approximately 50%). 3- The V8 trigger is a new soft touch design - it is easier & is super smooth - light years ahead of the V6 trigger. 4- The release button on the V8 tools is an amazing soft push with a positive click, now located on the tool end; on V6 & earlier models, the silver release buttons were very stiff & difficult to lock in positively. They were on the vacuum end (opposite of the V8). So tools are NOT interchangeable between the V8 & the V6 or older model. 5- The V8 beater bar is MUCH more powerful than the V6! The nameplate on the pick-up tool specifies a 50 Watt Beater Bar Motor vs. a 20 Watt Beater Bar Motor on the beater bar on the V6! 6- Dumping the bin is radically different on the V8, too. Simply lift the red finger pull on top of the machine & the entire bin raises & the bottom opens up! You never touch the dirt. The older V6 required you to touch the dirt bin. Great sanitary improvement. Dyson calls it a "hygienic dirt ejector". 7- The V8 has 3) blue LED's that indicate battery & charging status, unlike the single LED on the V6. 8- Despite the slightly heavier 5.75 pound weight over the 5 pound V6, both vacuums feel perfectly balanced & comfortable handling at any angle. 9- The V8 includes a greatly improved battery & provides a 40 minute run time. This is a tremendous advantage over the 20 minute runtime of the V6! This longer battery life is even more amazing, considering the even more powerful motor: V8 motor runs at 425 Watts, compared to the V6, which runs at 350 Watts. 10- The wall mounting bracket is necessarily slightly wider to accommodate the slightly larger V8, compared with the smaller V6. Thankfully, the mounting centers for the 2) holes remains 5" OC, co I simply unscrewed the V6 wall bracket & screwed the new V8 wall mounting bracket into the same holes in my wall. FUTURE DESIGN IDEAS: So, what could Dyson change to make the V8 even better? That is a tough question. Only one suggestion: Make the fixed battery pack removable so you could purchase & keep a spare battery pack charged. You could charge each pack, one at a time in the vacuum handle, or Dyson could add a snap-in compartment on the wall bracket that would allow charging both the V8 & the spare battery pack simultaneously... This may sound extreme, considering the V8 features a 40 minute run time, but I operate it on Maximum all of the time. Using motorized power heads, expect 7-8 minutes of operation in Maximum mode. PURCHASING RECOMMENDATIONS: If you have any hard floors, such as hardwood / ceramic time / vinyl, you will be better served buying the Dyson V8 Absolute, as it also includes the soft roller head designed for hard surfaces. Both V8's include the powerful beater bar tool for carpeting, a Mini Motorized Tool - handy for stairs. Both include a dusting brush - great for computer keyboards & a narrow crevice tool. Dyson sells the optional soft roller head for $111.99 - I just ordered one to add to my V8 Animal. It is not listed yet - you have to order it through chat. CONCLUSION: Dyson continues to perfect an already excellent product! Owning 4) impressive V6 vacuums, I did not see how they could improve that design... until now. The V8 changes are not just evolutionary - they are REVOLUTIONARY!! 2X battery life, more suction, more motor power, more beater bar power, soft trigger, softer & more positive tool release buttons, battery / charge indicator, with half the noise! The Dyson V8 is the Undisputed Handheld Vacuum CHAMPION!

This is the first time that I have owned a cordless vacuum of any type and all I can say is this thing is outstanding. I have only owned it a few days, but I'm totally impressed on how well it sucks up everything I vacuum over. The vacuum comes with a 6' charging power cord. A wall attachment to hang the vacuum from while it's being charged. A 28 1/2 inch extension tube, 1 large and 1 small self powered floor sweeper brushes. 1 thin crevasse tube to get into tight places like sofa cushions, and 2 non powered brushes for cleaning things like window blinds, computer keyboards and such. And of course, the hand held motor and battery unit which weighs only 5 pounds. I have an excellent corded Hoover vacuum cleaner that has attachments like a small rotating brush to clean furniture or stairs, and that rotating brush is powered by the suction that the vacuum creates when using it. Unfortunately, if the carpet is too thick or you push down too hard, the rotating part won't rotate. With the Dyson V8 Animal, the two rotating tools, large and small are electrically powered with each unit having it's own little motor built into the unit. I used the smaller unit to vacuum my dogs hair off the sofa and love seat without any slowdown of the stiff bristles and was totally amazed that it got all of the hair. My Hoover could never get all the dog hair off the furniture. And while I would not use the V8 Animal to vacuum my whole house as it would need to be recharged a few times, I vacuumed in tight areas and under all of the beds with the larger floor attachment. And it worked excellent. I have also used the V8 Animal in my Ford Explorer, and it easily got the dog hair out of the carpet thanks to the smaller powered rotating floor brush. With all the dog hair I vacuumed up, I had to empty the collection chamber a few times, but it's very quick and easy to do so. All you need to do is hold the motorized unit over a trash can, pull up on the red lever and the motor part rises up, and then the bottom of the collection chamber opens on a hinge and the debris falls into the trash can. Then simply push the motor head back down and flip up the bottom of the collection chamber and you're ready to go. The Lithium-ion battery delivers up to 40 minutes of fade-free suction and features a trigger grip that releases instantly to ensure battery power is only used for vacuuming. If you need a bit more power, then simply flipping the switch to max power mode will get you up to 7 minutes of greater suction for harder jobs. I only tried max power for a minute or so to see what it would do, but for what I was doing it was not needed. Dyson sends the Lithium-ion battery with some power in it, but you must charge it for 5 hours before using the V8 Animal for the first time. Another feature is that it has a HEPA filtration system that captures allergens and releases air that's cleaner than the air you breathe thanks to its completely sealed design. The unit has 2 filters that Dyson recommends that you wash at least once a month. Since I just got the Dyson, I can't comment on how this works. The Dyson V8 Animal comes with a 2 year warranty which is great as it seems most items now days only come with a year or less warranty Overall, I highly recommend the Dyson V8 Animal cordless stick vacuum. While it will not replace my regular upright corded Hoover vacuum cleaner, it will compliment it

    Much improved model

Over the years, owned several vacuums, including a few cordless. This is by far the best stick vacuum in the house. Compared to our older Dyson DC56, it's slightly bigger, slightly heavier and a lot more powerful while being quieter. It's really a big difference compared to the older model. It's actually impressive, the suction is higher than on many corded vacuums. The vacuum is very modular and anything that's involved with dirt can be cleaned. The whole dustbin assembly can be removed from the vacuum. It has two operation modes: A standard and full. The full suction mode feels a lot more powerful and likely overkill for most uses. Dyson claims it has up to 40 minutes battery. I could not test this but cleaned different rooms and battery indicated 2 out of 3 bars. The 'Animal' model comes with the handheld vacuum, a 'dock', power adapter, the extension rod, a direct drive floor cleaner (it has its own motor), a mini motorized tool (Great for car seats and sofas), a combination brush, crevice extension (fixed length) and a soft dusting brush (Good to clean appliances because the bristles are very soft). The step-up model from this is the 'Absolute'. Besides colors, the only difference I could find is that it has an additional soft roller head (the whole assembly with a soft roller for hard floors). The roller that comes is fine for both carpets and hard floors, and it's designed in a way that hair is not easily tangled. Lots of other vacuums we had would collect lots of hairs on the brush, making it messy to clean. The way the dustbin is cleaned lifts the stainless steel filter against a rubber ring, so it's cleaned on its own. On the older model we had sometimes we had to pick through the bin to remove hair. Not with this. Since this model has a thin stainless steel mesh as the primary filter, a lot less dust goes though the top of the vacuum. It also has a washable filter before the engine and a small HEPA filter before the exhaust. Because this filter is the last, I don't see the need to ever replace it. Way I didn't like is the design of the 'dock'. It's functional and should work well, but have to drill holes on the wall to hang it, and then run the power cable from it. I would much preferred to have the option of a pedestal, but it's not available for this model. It can also be powered by plugging it in directly to the power adapter, which is what we do. The other issue is that while it's overall very light and easy to use, because the engine is on the handle, it might get a bit heavy after a while, compared with upright vacuums or other stick vacuums where the engine Is near the bottom and thus more balanced. Like in other Dyson models, the battery is not easily replaceable. Also the top of the vacuum is spay-painted, and will likely scratch. Also, to keep in mind, if you have older Dyson models, the tools won't work on this because the clip is on the tool, not on the vacuum. I was looking for a flexible crevice tool and it's not available for this model.

I bought this without much thought as Dyson is supposed to be a good product/well-engineered. It is rated well by consumer reports, etc. Good: It is lightweight. Easy to empty. Gets under furniture. Good filters; do not let dust back into the air. Charges relatively quickly. Lots of useful attachments. Bad: The hand grip is too small. I am not a large-handed man, but it is a fairly tight squeeze and not a comfortable design. There are no lights on the front; low-angle lights make it easier to see the dirt you need to vacuum. I have never owned a vacuum without lights, and I hate it! There is a very slim opening in the front, and most debris thicker than a cheerio will get pushed around. You then lift and set the vacuum on it, and you can vacuum it up. You can only pick up dirt going forward. I think this is intentional, as not to let dirt fly out from behind it, but it is pretty annoying, and an easy fix. It has been a little over a year and the battery is starting to go. No longer can I vacuum our small house (wood floors) without it dying. Put it in max suction mode and it lasts maybe 2 minutes. I would not purchase it again.

    Incredible Cord-Free Vacuum

Dyson is known for innovation and the Dyson v8 Animal lives up to the history of innovation at Dyson. We've owned three generations of the full-size Dyson vacuum cleaners and honestly wouldn't consider any other brand at this time. While we'll likely continue to use the full-size Dyson for most of the cleaning in the home, the Dyson v8 cord-free vacuum really comes into it's own when getting to more challenging areas of the home or outside in the car. The Dyson v8 arrived partially charged although you'll want to charge it fully before using it beyond just checking it out for a few moments. As with other vacuum cleaners by Dyson, the v8 Animal comes with an assortment of attachments that make it truly versatile. The box suggests that the v8 Animal will provide 40 minutes of "fade-free" suction and it appears to deliver on this promise. As with other Dyson vacuum cleaners, the suction does not disappoint. It will easily clean the most challenging areas of your home or office and I only wish I'd bought one of these sooner!

I would give this a 5 star rating IF it sucked up pet food and larger objects without having to lift the vacuum on top the larger objects. You can of course change the component to the slanted nozzle to pick up these things, but it sorta loses its magic when you have to stop and change the head to do that. You should be able to glide over food without extra work. That aside, It's been my favorite vacuum and it makes the chore fun. Super light, super powerful and the interchangeable heads are super handy and friendly to use. I would certainly buy a dyson again, but may try to find one that sucks up pet food/larger objects without having to lift the vacuum and place it right on top of the objects in order to pick them up. 4 1/2 stars.

The convenience of this vacuum is worth every penny. It is light to carry, has versatile attachments and very easy to empty. The battery does have some limitations but I have always been able to finish cleaning without having to stop when I use normal suction level. It's plenty for normal messes. The higher suction level is nice to have for messier than normal jobs but it does cut down on runtime.

This came recommended by a few friends as an apartment-friendly vacuum. While none of the Dysons are cheap, this one really delivers a great balance of power, versatility, and ease of use. Our 2-pet home is much cleaner because this lightweight vacuum is always at the ready for floors or furniture. It comes with a handful of different attachments & a charging cord. It can deplete the charge after a thorough cleaning, but it also recharges pretty quickly. Highly recommended!

Bought this Dysona couple months ago and instantly fell in love with it. Pros : light weight, powerful, battery life, takes up very little storage space using the wall mount, portable, way earlier to take apart to clean(hair in the roller). Cons: expensive, plastic parts feels a bit brittle, small vaccume tank Over all this is a perfect vaccume for those with blinds, stairs, and/or small hard to reach places, etc. a “plug in the wall” type vaccume would other wise be a big pain in the @**.

This is my first Dyson vacuum. The V8 replaced my Shark Rocket corded stick. The Dyson V8 shamed my Shark Rocket vacuum. My carpet looked new after using the V8. I wanted to slap myself. Girl, where have you been? I was under a rock with my shark rocket and dull looking carpet. I should have switched long time ago. The suction on the V8 is 10x better. Having a cord slows you down with maneuvering, angling, and going from room to room. Cordless is the best way to go, because you can move faster and efficiently. I usually do 3 large rooms and a hallway before I have to charge it. The vacuum charges fast enough to where I haven't been frustrated waiting for it to charge. It comes with plenty of attachments. I use the V8 on my tile bathroom floor and it removes all of the hair. I have used it on my kitchen wood floor and it removed all of the food crumbs. Speaking of crumbs, you should see how immaculate my sofa is under the cushions. I use it in just about every room. It is lightweight and easy to transport throughout the house. I don't have to apply a lot pressure to push the vacuum which is great for my arthritis and carpel tunnel. I can go on and on about it. Just get it! What are you waiting for?

    Dyson V8 Cordless Vacuum Review

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The Dyson V8 Cordless Vacuum is a highly-rated and popular choice for a reason. Users consistently praise its powerful suction, lightweight design, and versatility, which make it a great option for quick cleanups and daily maintenance. It handles a variety of surfaces, from hard floors to carpets, with ease. The included attachments, like the Hair Screw Tool, are particularly useful for tackling pet hair on furniture and other tricky areas. One of the V8's most appreciated features is its cordless convenience, allowing you to move freely without being tied to an outlet. It easily transforms into a handheld vacuum, which is perfect for cleaning cars, stairs, and hard-to-reach spots. The wall-mounted charging dock is also a convenient way to store the vacuum and its accessories. However, some users have noted a few drawbacks. The battery life can be a concern for larger homes, as the vacuum's run time, especially on max power, is limited. Some customers also mention that the continuous trigger button can become uncomfortable during extended use. Additionally, while the V8 is more affordable than newer Dyson models, its price is still a consideration for some. Overall, the Dyson V8 is an excellent and effective vacuum for small to medium-sized homes, especially for those with pets. Its strong performance and ease of use make it a worthwhile investment.

Battery life very short with MAX Suction. Expected quality when you buy a cordless vacuum. Gets hot when using it for a long time. It sucks pretty good on max suction. I would have gone with a cord next time though. It is hard to get some hairs out of carpet. Do not know enough on vacuums if that is just all standard vacuums or just this one isn't as good.

I bought this Dustin stick vacuum a few months ago and have loved every second of owning it. This vacuum is light weight and still has plenty of pick up power. I can clean the entire house on one single charge (picking up more then two over flowing debris collection bins of dirt and dog hair (we own two short haired dogs)). This vacuum is easy to use on stairs and reach under furniture! I have found that it is super easy and convenient to vacuum the dog hair off of the microfiber furniture and even off of the bed spread! The noise out put is quite minimal compared to an upright vacuum, when on the every day setting. The noise level goes up substantially when placed on the “max” setting but that is expected with how much more suction the vacuum produces. Overall, I am extremely happy with this purchase! I would recommend this stick vacuum to anyone looking for a quick and lightweight/easy to use way to clean all the flooring in their house. The only down thing I have found with this unit is while vacuuming the longer carpet, I get a static shock from the charging port on the palm of my hand. If the port was located anywhere else, this wouldn’t be a minor discomfort.

    Excellent and Versatile Cordless Vacuum

The Dyson V8 cordless vacuum is an excellent vacuum for an apartment. It can do it all, from floor vacuuming (flexible floor attachment can get under furniture and beds) to cleaning surfaces and knickknacks. I have used it to vacuum the interior of my car, given that Best Buy sells a car and boat Dyson that is the V8 without the floor attachment. The battery lasts long enough to get most cleaning done (recharging gives me a chance to sit down and rest). The regular power setting is all I use; the max setting is too powerful for what I use it for. The real convenience is being able to pick it up and vacuum without having to find an outlet or deal with a cord. It's really light weight, too, so I'm not straining to hold a vacuum cleaner with one hand while I'm trying to clean with the other. Discharging the dust container is really easy, though it is not as squeaky clean as the ads say. The door will get dust on it, which then needs to be wiped off. The wall bracket lets me store the V8 out of the way and keep it charged for when I need it. The only downside is the cost. It's rather expensive compared to other brands. Given the versatility and convenience, if it lasts five years, then the V8 will have been worth the purchase.

I love everything about my Dyson V8 Motorhead Origin Vacuum. It has two modes of power, Max Mode and Powerful. The Powerful mode works great for vacuuming my whole house. When I need a little extra suction the Max Mode is great! This vacuum picks up everything. I like that it is so lightweight and portable. It comes with three main parts, they all click and unclick together so easily. I love that there is a charging base that they all hook up into. This vacuum does not take long to charge at all. When fully charged I can vacuum my entire house. If I use Max Mode then the charge lasts about 8 minutes. The head of this cleaner swivels which makes vacuuming so much easier. I love that it is bagless. With a simple click of a button, I can empty the canister into the trash bin. It comes with accessories such as an upholstery brush. This vacuum has made vacuuming effortless.

Easy to use, canister a little small, and handle vent gets too hot, so if your hand is pressed against it, you'll feel a burn over time. A small adjustment in hand placement changes that. Ease of use was important as we have lots of small spaces and corners to clean under and around. It's not heavy, even my petite 8-year old can use it. The attachments have been useful for hard-to-reach places. We have a medium-sized dog and kids who track in dirt, it's great to just be able to grab the vacuum and clean up messes without having to unwind a cord. I love that it keeps its charge and it doesn't overcharge, which can result in battery damage. The maximum suction feature is great for carpets and rugs, and I can quickly switch it for floors. The canister needs changing after we vacuum our entire apartment, but this is a positive, as it keeps us from keeping trash/dirt in the canister for too long. Overall, a great purchase and equally great replacement for our previous corded Dyson of 9 years.

I would recommend this to a friend
