I bought this to transfer old VHS kids movies to my NAS for streaming. GOOD: - Easy to connect and install: It took me longer to dig out the VCR and get it connected than it did to install the software and connect it to the VCR. - Straighforward operation: Once it's all set up, throw in a tape, press play on the VCR, and then hit record on the software. Easy peasy. - Good quality conversion: Keeping in mind that we're talking about VHS tapes on an old VCR, the quality of the output was good. Looked about the same as I'd expect if connected to an old "tube" TV. NOT SO GOOD: - Need more software for DVD To transfer to DVD requires iDVD (now included in iMovie) or some 3rd party burning software. (It does say this on the box though!) - Limited output options: Output options (or quality as Roxio calls it) is limited to 3; high, medium, low. High is the standard Apple Intermediate CODEC (.MOV), medium is h.264 (MP4) but no options to change the resolution from 640x480, and low is also h.264, but at the 320x240 resolution. - Instructions are dated: The instructions still refer to iDVD, even though that's now part of iMovie (since iMovie 10). It would have been nice for Roxio to have updated their manuals and boxes to reflect the changes in the software. Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase. I went in looking for another brand of capture card for Mac, but had to choose between this and a different brand. I went with this for the Roxio name. So far, it's been perfectly fine. As stated in my "not so good", I chose to capture in high quality (.MOV) and then convert that to a smaller MP4 using QuickTime. The .MOV is rather large (about 10GB for a feature film), but the final MP4 is much more reasonable (in the 100s of MB range), so it's all good. I may try to see if there's a difference in final quality between letting the Video Capture output directly to MP4 and me doing it with QT. If/when I do, I'll update the review.

Shame on me. I should have read the reviews before I picked this up almost 3 weeks ago. As other reviewers have stated, the tech support for this program is very bad. If you have a problem with the software then you'll probably do better researching the community groups. My issue is that I can not get audio into the Mac. Video appeared to work fine. All of the work-arounds suggested in the community area I tried but nothing worked. When I finally got an e-mail from tech support he instructed me to do everything I already tried. When I responded with "Didn't work, now what?" I never got an answer back. In the mean time, my free 14-day tech support expires. I just bought my Mac a couple of weeks ago.....latest and greatest OS. I checked out my RCA cables and the audio outs from my VCR and they work fine. I understand about the policy of Best Buy and other retailers concerning opened software not able to be returned...but this is ridiculous. Like I said...shame on me. I should have read the reviews on this site before committing to the purchase. Silly me, thinking that if I have a Mac and it's Mac software, it's going to work. Cost me $80 to learn that isn't always the case.

This product does not work. It has so many issues that it sucked a full day of my life and still never worked. Customer support is completely useless. I got emails saying they were reviewing my case, then that they were closing my case - hoping my issue was resolved. Never got any help. I was working on a project on a tight deadline. I never got a single useable piece of video even though everything on the computer said it was working. When I would finish - it would say "capture failed." I finally took it back and suggested that Best Buy pull it from their shelves. Then I went somewhere else and bought Video Capture by Elgato. Worked perfectly with no issues at all.

Horribly supported products, no 64-Bit Version??

I came into Best Buy, looking for a capture card (my mistake). I spoke to a miseducated sales person who told me that this product isn't a capture card. I pretended to learn something from him, cause I didn't even feel like wasting my time arguing with someone who thinks they're right anyway. So I found what I needed, bought it, and brought it home. Yay. After searching online for about 10 min, (after the hour I spent going through all of my computers audio settings (that's usually what it is), I found out that the audio doesn't work while running on a 64 Bit Platform...what?? Oooookay. So, I tried rebooting my system in 32 Bit Mode, and nothing again. Not to mention this device doesn't even behave like a DEVICE" It requires you to use the horrible software it comes with.

Audio & Video does not sync

I had originally posted a fair review about this product as I had only tested it once sine the purchase and it seemed to have worked well. I spent my Thanksgiving holiday trying to transfer VHS using my Mac and this software. I wasted all my time trying to fix a sync issue between audio & visual. The software starts recording well for the first 15 minutes, then it starts lagging behind about a second or two by the time I am done recording a full hour I am behind 8 to 10 seconds. I thought it was the fact I FFWD so I started over left it running continuously and noticed that the longer it keeps recording the longer the lag. Terrible waste of money. Tried returning it at BB but I couldn't due to return policy. There goes $80!

The end of my story is that the product now works fine. The beginning and middle are where the problems lie. I installed (and upgraded the software for) this product, per instructions. It would capture audio only sporadically (upon jiggling the miniUSB connector) and would not capture video at all. I dutifully contacted customer support via email (no phone support) and we began a 5-day long back-and-forth, with support asking me questions I had already answered, with no apparent direction, other than to string me along until I gave up. Thankfully, Best Buy allowed me to exchange the product. (Thank you, BB.)This gave me new h/w, which fixed the problem. Customer support is still confused. Given that another reviewer has encountered a similar problem, I would caution folks to look for another solution unless, of course, you enjoy wasting time with a broken product.

Really not ready for Prime Time. After a couple of email exchanges with Corel, I finally got this from their (offshore?) support "... The issue you experience appears to be normal as I also experience the same issue sometimes and what I do is to try changing the Quality from High to Medium or close the application then unplug and replug the USB device just like the steps you did. Since this is still a cause of inconvenience, we have actually forwarded the issues you are experiencing to the Engineering team. However, as of the moment we cannot guarantee when a fix will be created to address these issues. If a fix will be released in the future, rest assured that it will be updated in our software update page from our website. ...". Not acceptable.

My computer is up to date and will run the software. Roxio uploads to the computer fine, but quality of video is very poor. Product says it has the capability to export to iTunes, but has no option for the export. The burn option didn't work properly either!!! I spent many hours trying to get it to work. Total waste of time!!! I tried Roxio support and did not have a good experience!! Because of the the high cost of the product and being very disappointed in it, I actually tried to return the item to the store where purchased. I was hoping for a refund, but did not receive one. Needless to say, I have a product that I will not even be able to use!!! The product was a total waste of money!!!

Initially the product worked well and was very easy and simple to install. Once I started having technical troubles I had to call for support. The support line out sources to another company which will not speak to you directly on the phone just a series of emails that usually come to to three days after your initial call. It’s the worst customer service set up I’ve ever experienced. I’m still going through a process to try and reboot the system which will entail deleting everything I’ve done so far and starting over

I bought this after using a Tivo DVD recorder for about 10 years, which ended up breaking down a few weeks. I'm a sports nut and I burn many DVDs of memorable games of my favorite teams to keep and watch. I wanted to get something that was easy to use and after researching, I found it with Easy VHS to DVD. It was a quick set on my computer and after reading the instructions, I dubbed my first DVD. Basically connect the VCR to my Mac, press play on the VCR, hit record in the program, and come back when it finishes. The quality of the video on the DVD was much better than the ones I've burned from the Tivo recorder. The only negative is the time it takes for the actual DVD burn, but I think that's more my computer than the actual program.

So, it's January 8, 2017 and I'm trying to convert VHS tapes to DVD. Yup! I'm a little behind the times, and my back is against the wall. I purchased "Roxio Easy VHS to DVD" for Mac for a while ago from BestBuy, and quite frankly it's never been "Easy anything". In the past 24 hours, I updated my "Easy" and purchased "Toast 15" directly from Roxio. I'm now running both "Easy VHS to DVD" and "Toast 15" on my wife's new Mac mini (OS Sierra 10.12.2). They are absolutely living up to their claims. However, I must state, that that didn't happen until I had both in their up-to-date status. Before that, GRRRR! Once all was all up to date... WoooHOOOO!

This product was recommended to me as a way to transfer VHS tapes and Laser Disks to an electronic format. The instructions were relatively clear and the setup was easy. It worked great through the first two disks. Then the trouble began. At random points the software would crash, requiring me to restart the entire process (and leaving a hard-to-find temporary file on my hard drive). I tried all sorts of solutions found on the web, but nothing worked. I tried switching to VHS with the same results. I have since found a workaround, but it is a long and tedious process. Until the software issues are fixed, I can not recommend what should be a fine product.

This program crashes frequently. But not at the beginning of the process, at the end. When the tape, that has been converted in real time, is nearly at the end of the two hours. Everything is lost. I tried to reach technical support so that I could see if there was a problem with my operating system and their software (I was running 10.7.5) and found their customer service and tech support absolutely useless. First because they don't actually let you speak to anyone without going through a terrible registration process that also has serious glitches, and secondly because their technical support just sucks.

I purchased to transfer a VHS library to digital. It is smile to use, plug in cable it comes with to VCR and USB on computer. Tape appears on the screen and you can press Record/Stop. A nice feature is there is an auto-stop feature that you can set if going to work or bed. If you forget to stop it on time, you can trim it to the desired ending point before saving. The only downside is the file size. It goes about 1GB for every 10 minutes. I ran through Compressor to decrease the file size by almost 90 percent. It worked great but was very time consuming. Overall happy with the purchase and it got the job done.

The software was easy to set up and was easy to use once installed. However, if it cannot transfer the VHS to DVD, the error messages are extremely unhelpful and it is hard to know why it did not work. I attempted to transfer an, admitted very old, VHS tape and it appeared to work fine until I tried to stop the recording at which point I would get an error message. The error message did not tell me what the problem was and it took me quite a while to search the Roxio website to find any type of explanation of what had gone wrong.

I just purchased this software yesterday and will be returning to store today. spent countless time chatting and emailing roxio due to installation failure on an iMac. In looking at the software depicted online at BB, the version sold is not as depicted. This software package now includes Toast basic from Roxio but BB's version does not even thought the package box depicts that it is included....false ands misleading. Will continue to research another software option for this project.

    Aweful Program

Bought Roxio Easy VHS to DVD, aweful program. Install went easy but after that it was all downhill, having nothing but trouble and support is horrible. Getting a "No Signal Detected" error, doesn't matter what computer we use, desktop, laptops, nothing, same error! Doesn't matter if it is VCR or my Video Camera, still same issue! Using the support database is a joke, no one has gotten clear answers to fix the problem! Can't call support unless we want to pay $$$$, uncalled for, if their product is good then their support should help if there is a problem instead of charging more. Don't buy this program/product!!!

On the plus side, I'd have to say that it is easy to install, easy to use and small and out of the way when not in use. On the negative side, I'd have to say that the quality of video transfer isn't the best. Tends to be darker and less resolution than the original. Significantly so. If you don't want to break the bank, it gets the job done, though I have seen better ones for more money.

Software needs to be upgraded. You should be able to choose audio or video or both. You should be able to specify the audio and video output format. Right now you only get .mov. When you play it QuickTime needs to convert the file which takes long. I also have serious issues with audio and video synchronization. I can continue to pick it apart but in conclusion the product would have potential with a serious upgrade. Wait for a new improved version.

I have a vaio quad core laptop with windows 7 professional 64 bit OS. My computer level and skills are High..... I'm very familiar with this product and it is great to copy VHS or 8mm from a VCR or camcorder....etc.... and I mean great!.... Only problem is the editing tools are very poor and sometimes not compatible specially with windows 7. I will suggest to get a different software to edit your videos if thats something you care about. Other than that to record on yout laptop or PC is Fantastic! Very pleased with it... and the price is 100% worth it.
