We live in a two-story house where the thermostat is in an upstairs hallway. This means that at any time during the year, the upstairs is always warmer than the downstairs rooms - both summer and winter. I bought 4 of these sensors to put in the rooms that are used the most. Because of the smart home/away and the follow me features, having the sensors seemed to be a must. They have worked relatively well, but I have had some issues with them. Ecobee is designed to sense when there is no occupancy at home and will automatically go into the away comfort setting. However, all sensors within the home must sense no movement/occupancy for a total of two hours before going into the cost saving mode. To me, that length of time seems to be too long. The other issue I have is that if you create a custom comfort setting, then the away feature does not work. Only when the thermostat is in the preloaded home and away settings does the smart home/away feature work. I feel both of these situations should be customizable by the owner. You also have to be careful where the sensors are placed within the room. Obviously if they are near a heat source, the temperature reading will be incorrect. Also, if in line with direct sun, the sunlight can cause them to indicate a false occupancy reading.

We are very happy with our ecobee4 and the sensors. It functions just like the Nest but better with more options such as Alexa, sensor for each room, includes two but I purchased 4 more. The sensors really work. We use the follow me feature and every room that is occupied is the temp we set. Pros: It works, it is fun, and saves on energy costs! Another pro is the sensors! I have sensors all over my house and use them to help get the most accurate average temperature reading of my house. I love the fact that they can detect if a room is unoccupied and therefor will focus on making sure the rooms that are occupied are at the desired temperature. The sensors can also be used as a motion detector. Amazing!!! Cons: the Nests app is more responsive and with little to no delay. The Ecobee app is delayed about 30 sec or more. I’m hoping they can fix that with future updates. Overall it's a fantastic product. If you want to upgrade your thermostat from Basic thermostat or even Nest like we did. I highly recommend this.

A Necessity for larger one unit homes or upstairs

I purchased the Ecobee 3 - absolutely the best. I was really taken with the additional remote sensor, which actually contains 3 sensors - temperature, humidity, and motion. It allows the thermostat to get a true picture of the climate in your home because, along with the base unit sensors, you have readings from multiple locations. I have 2 units, and I have 2 Ecobee 3s. Upstairs, the temperature is very tricky to manage - or should I say was tricky to manage. I purchased this additional pack of sensors because the bedrooms and bonus rooms have inconsistent temps. Adding 2 additional sensors increases the scope of my averages for the climate, and allows the Ecobee to know when more of the upstairs is occupied or not when determining what the experienced climate is - if I'm in my room and the temp in there is 78, but 75 in the other rooms, the AC pops on to cool me off. If you have a single unit in a larger home, or if you have an upstairs that has aim over the garage room or varying temps, these things will help your Ecobee be even more accurate and efficient in keeping an awesome climate in your home.

I bought these extra sensors as a Christmas present for my husband. We've had the ecobee for a couple years and he's always wanted extra sensors. We have a 2 story, approx 4000 sq ft house so the extra temperature control is nice. We have one in our daughters bedroom which is always cooler being above the garage, one in our basement and one on the main level. They are motion censored to help even out the temperature and keep areas warmer when they are occupied. They were easy to add to the ecobee system. Every once in a while one goes offline due to a low wifi signal I think but it's always temporary. They can either be placed anywhere on the little stand, or there is something more permanent where you can install to the wall using a sticky tape that's included or drill a holder into the wall and snapping it into place. If you have a larger house I recommend adding more sensors to regulate the temperature better. We like our ecobee. It's user friendly and love that there's no monthly fee.

I purchased the ecobee remote sensors to pair with my ecobee 4 smart thermostat because my home has thermostat in an area that is near an entrance and exposed to direct sunlight all day. The AC was constantly running because that room was always warm and the rest of the house freezing. After setting up the ecobee 4 thermostat adding these extra sensors (the ecobee 4 has one included as well) was extremely easy. I just removed a plastic tab that allows the battery to make contact and immediately the thermostat knew I was adding and asked to verify I was pairing the sensor. I named it to match the room it was to be placed in and it started reading the temperature immediately. This could not have been any easier. After making a schedule for the AC on the ecobee 4 and a few other simple settings through the ecobee app I was up and running and there are no more hot and cold zones within my house.

Work great for monitoring temperatures throughout your home. The sensors cone with the battery preinstalled, just pull out the plastic piece and the sensor is ready to pair with the thermostat. The sensors can be mounted to a surface, or they come with a clear plastic stand for each sensor. Mine are all just sitting on the sensors bottom edge (the dirdctions indicate the sensor should be situated with the white sensor window in the upper left). Pairing the sensor with the thermostat was very easy and you can enter a descriptive name for each sensor. Basically, you have the thermostat search for the sensor and select it once it appears. I have installed a sensor in each room of the house and they are all reading within 1 to 2 degrees of each other. Helpful in balancing the heating/cooling to each room.

I prefer the Nest over the Ecobee to be honest, but the Ecobee works with Apple's HomeKit. These satellite sensors aren't completely necessary, but they do add to the comfort of my home as they'll "follow" me around paying attention to where I'm at to keep the temp in the room(s) to my liking. Just a note, when I bought this pair, I received an email after adding them to my Ecobee thermostat account. There was a problem in their assembly which made the motion detection sensor not function properly. It needs the little 1/4 window to be in front of it. It wasn't aligned properly and so they sent out instructions to new owners of the sensors after they buy them. The fix is very simple and takes all of 2 minutes. Just pop open the casing and rotate the plastic front to align like it needs. Now they work great. Had they not emailed me, it would've taken a while for me to notice likely. Despite the above issue, if you want to improve your comfort around the house, go ahead and pick up a pair of these.

Living in a two story home I find the temperature difference between the 1st and 2nd floor to be drastic at times but with the addition of these on the 1st floor and the thermostat is located on the 2nd floor it seems to really follow you and keep your location in the house at a comfortable temperature all the time. I do think these cause my AC to run more than it would without them. I will probably eventually add more to cover every room but I hope to catch them on sale because they are a little pricey and I am not sure if they are worth $80 to me. I bought mine as a package deal and paid $40. If I can get another set for $40 I would probably buy but not at $80. I don't feel that these will save me money so the ROI is not there and this is a little more on the cool gadget side.

Remotes extend and fine-tune ecobee3 performance

I have installed three of these remotes (in addition to the one included with the ecobee3 theromstat), to extend the efficiency of the ecobee3. Now only the temperature in rooms that are occupied are considered in determining the temperature sensed by the thermostat. My thermostat is in a location that is convenient for seeing and accessing the thermostat, but it is a room that I rarely use. With the remotes, the temperature of rooms actually in use is averaged and used to determine whether more heating or cooling is required in the rooms where people actually are. From the thermostat, I can see at a glance what the temperature is in each room with a sensor and whether that room is occupied. Comfortable temperatures actually seem to follow me around the house. In reporting data provided by the thermostat, I can graphically see when temperatures were adjusted based on occupancy information.

In my opinion the sensor were built very cheaply. The sensors I got were wrongly assembled and I had to manually remove the covers and rotate the plastic (Easy process that takes only a minute or less), however it took me a day to notice they were not working properly. As for the functions of the sensors themselves, they work but it takes about 15 minutes or more for it to recognize motion and report it to the thermostat. I do not know if this is just me or its standard. Overall its a so, so product, but a must have if you have the thermostat. It does equal out the temp around the house as well as only cools/heats the rooms that motion is detected on. ( Meaning if you are in a room were the temp is 85 and another room is 95, and your thermostat is set to 85, the cooling will not activate because it didn't detect motion in the 95 degree room).

    Multi Room Thermometer

Like many larger single story homes ours has a single zone, and thus uneven heating and cooling. In prior homes we had multi-zones reconfigured/retrofitted... We purchased the ecobee3 and added four remote sensors (so there's a total of the thermostat plus 5 sensors) such that each bedroom, living room & kitchen/dining area are monitored. The result is "okay"... As there are no physical zones, the HVAC pumps AC or heat thrui all the ducts when it's on yielding somewhat uneven temperatures (nothing you can do about that without reconfiguring the house/system) but it does a great job of making the rooms more balanced and generally being within a single degree each other (i found it works best when I "disregard" the actual thermostat location reading and use all the other remote sensors for my At Home & Away settings and it works great; I use only our occupied bedroom sensors for the sleep settings)

These sensors are THE best selling point for the Ecobee. Even in a small house like ours where some of the sensors are only maybe 10 feet apart (but in separate rooms) the ability to use the ecobee "follow me" setting is invaluable. So that the ecobee isn't running the heat to warm up a bedroom that no one has been in for hours. Not to mention the fact that they allow the ecobee to gauge the temperature of the house in more places than just the hallway it is mounted. THAT is what makes Ecobee shine. And I highly recommend you start your experience with at least 3 sensors so that as you're getting used to programming comfort schedules and how the ecobee works, you're doing so utilizing readings from multiple rooms. Then any setup you create will be easily expandable if you decide you need more sensors later.

    Large hOMe necessity

Our hOMe is over 2400sq ft and these are very useful to equal distribution of heat this time of year. If you own an EcoBee3, have a large layout and want to better monitor your heating(for this time of year) this is a must. We waited to see if we needed them at first using just the two sensors with the main unit purchase. The main unit in the hallway is centrally located but not a high traffic area so we used the other in the main activity room with TV and close to kitchen. It was OK but not too effective to bedrooms on both ends of the house. We used the extra pair and it has been wonderful and could not see us without them. The two extra sensors have balanced out the heating throughout the entire house. The activity sensing is a huge tool since why heat where no one is. If you are thinking about EcoBee3, get the additional sensors... highly recommended... namaste

I added a pack of sensors to my new ecobee3 to enable occupancy and temp sensing in additional rooms. They have a 15' motion range, so keep that in mind when placing them. They seem to work at a good distance from the ecobee3, but if you have a sprawling ranch with a single zone, you may hit the limits (45' per docs). Note: sensors shipped in Nov and Dec were assembled incorrectly. This impacts the occupancy sensor. The fix is very simple, rotate the faceplate so the sensor lines up with the window. You can tell by looking at the serial number sticker on the back. It should be on the same edge as the window. If not, you need to fix it or call support.

    Great Add-ons for ecobee Thermostat

One of the great features of the ecobee WiFi thermostat (version 3 in my case) is the ability to add sensors that you can place around your home to get the maximum comfort and maximum energy savings possible. I have a big house with 3 floors and 2 bedrooms are as far away from the furnace/air conditioner hub as you can be so they often are colder or warmer than the rest of the house. With the sensors, the ecobee averages the temperature of all sensors or you can manage the sensors to let some be inactive. Now, without rewiring or adding new ducts or another thermostat, I can let the bedroom sensors control the temperature and ensure that everybody is more comfortable. It's such a great idea.

These are often overpriced (IMNSHO), but if you can catch them on sale, these are awesome. Want to ask Alexa what the temperature upstairs is? Or in the basement? Or in your office? Then this is for you. Want ecobee to see where you are in the house, and adjust the temperature accordingly? Then this is for you. Want ecobee to only use one particular sensor, to set the temperature, when you go to bed, and ignore the others, regardless of motion? Then this is for you. Awesome, if you can catch it at a reasonable price.

    Ecobee 3 Sensors

I previously picked up an Ecobee3 wifi thermostat and love it. The thermostat comes with two sensors, one in the thermostat and a remote you can place in any room. I decided I wanted a couple more sensors to put one downstairs and one in mom's bedroom. While the sensors don't create additional zones in your home it does average out the temperature in the rooms you put them in. You can tell your thermostat what sensor(s) you want your furnace or air conditioner to respond to. In my case it is winter here and my downstairs is always freezing during the day. I told my thermostat to use the downstairs sensor temperature to trigger when the furnace comes on. It's working great! No more cold downstairs and surprisingly only a degree or two warmer upstairs. Love it.

I am using 3 of these sensors with one ecobee unit. They seem to work quite well but once a day, on average, the ecobee loses connection with the sensor and then re-establishes the connection within about an hour. I have the sensor about 15-20 feet from the ecobee and about 20 feet from a wifi hub. When the sensor has a lock then everything works great. I haven't really noticed a lack of performance in the system when one of the sensors drop off; it's more annoying than anything. Hopefully the next version will have a slightly better range.

With the addition of the ecobee sensors the ecobee smart thermostat gets a better picture of the the overall temperature of the house. The fact that the sensors detect motion and the ecobee thermostat prioritizes the temperature readings in those rooms is the way central heat and air conditioning should have been handled from the beginning. I use 4 sensors in my home and can track each one through the ecobee app even on the go. The sensors have been a positive addition to the ecobee smart thermostat and have allowed it to work to its full potential.

Work great but for my house it didn't work out. I have a 1800 sq. foot 2 story and my thermostat and 1 sensor was on the first floor then I put 1 sensor in my bedroom upstairs and a second sensor upstairs farthest from my furnace. Now doing this it kept my whole house pretty much perfect all day and night, only bad part is my furnace and air ran non stop. So I disabled sensors threw out the day and night so my furnace wouldn't run so much and I realized I didn't need the extra 2 sensors. So during the day the ecobee uses the thermostat to keep the house then at night it only uses 1 sensor upstairs to use cool at night. So really look at your house to see if you need more then the 1 sensor it comes with.
