The user interface is not very friendly. Hard to navigate through the menu. The scheduling and temperature adjustment settings are not very practical either.

Putting a temperature on hold is not changed by the normal schedule. The multiple sensors do not make getting the right temperature easy. I have needed to make multiple adjustments and its still not right.

I've been using the product for for two weeks. I like the extra sensor. The family room stays cold so I placed the sensor in there and then set the "at home" selection for that sensor. The thermostat is set for the "away" and "sleep" mode. The only problem I've had is with the scheduling because it has a pre-set schedule and the schedule rolls from one day to the next. I would have been better off deleting the default schedule and started from scratch. But I finally got a decent schedule. I would give have given 5 stars except for the scheduling hassle.

I've had my echobee4 for a few weeks now, and I love it! It's pretty simple to use and I love that it has Alexa. It's convenient to set/ change the temperature from my phone, which is helpful since my thermostat is on the second floor. The only issue that I've concerns the scheduling feature. My scheduling does not work and I've to "manually" set the temperature myself. It's a bit confusing at first, but the basic settings of ac, heat, or fan are easy to use. I don't like the automatic setting because you can't really control the cool or heat range... you set the ac temp and the heat temp, and echobee will cool the house to somewhere in between. If you manually pick your system, it's all good.

Had some issue with scheduling delivery (scheduled, then was called stating it needed to be rescheduled--meanwhile we were without a means for doing laundry). The unit was delivered and easy to hook up. The back access panel and part of white housing were dented in (was able to pop out mostly). Has been washing clothes since.

Do talk to your tech support for installation. It took me less than 30 minutes to install. Do remember to keep all of your instruction, supply, etc that comes with the unit for future references or even re-sale. I played around with the unit for less than 2 days and it's more useful than its look. It's not fully equipped with Alexa so do not expect much but the regular command such as "weather temperature, play music, traffic information". You can ask this Ecobee to wake you up but you cannot schedule your calendar using this unit. Bottom line, much better than Nest.

Just got a house so decided to swap out my old Nest for the Ecobee. Installation was a little more complicated than with the Nest, but the instructions Ecobee came with were very good and I had it all installed in about an hour. I really like that I could program it from the app, the device or on my computer. Setting everything up was pretty easy with the exception of the schedule. As I was setting up the schedule I had some trouble and had to keep redoing it. The one thing stopping me from giving this 5 stars is the Alexa portion of the device, the voice commands are cumbersome to control the thermostat. I also find the microphone on the unit isn't the best and I generally need to raise my voice for the device to pick up my commands.

The tool, thus far, has already made me happy with its commercial-grade functionality. While you can set all kinds of schedules like older t-stats do, there really is no need. Love that I no longer have to go switching between heat and cool modes. Excited to see how it works over the next several months. BTW, you do NOT have to activate Alexa if you don't want to. You just simply don't associate your Amazon account with the Ecobee registration. I mention this because it isn't quite clear anywhere else. Would be nice to have the "Alexa" i.e., voice command function built in without having to connect it to an Internet account.

I recently bought the Ecobee as my partner has it and I liked how easy it was to use, and the home-kit integration, so I can use Siri, or Alexa (I have a Sonos Beam with Alexa. . so it's a new system I'm playing with). The thermostat was easy to install, I recommend using the compatibility tool on EcoBee's website before purchasing, my place had no issues, but some people with more advanced/ out-dated systems may have issues. It was a lot easier to set up than nest, with a direct touch screen interface, versus the ring select of Nest. @@@@@@@@ And lack of Home-kit compatibility) and once it's set up, it does it's own thing. It comes with one remote sensor with a motion detector to detect occupancy. This is nice because the unit's in the hallway, and I work in my bedroom, my roomies work in the basement, so it at least detects that I'm home and keeps the system from going to away mode. Setting the schedules were a bit tricky, but overall, it has a day time and night time setting so it changes the temps based off that, which helps with cost. Over-all I certainly and happy with the EcoBee, and how it's been operating, and hope to have it for a very long time, and hope that they don't drop Home-Kit integration.

    Regret switching from Nest

I'm giving it 2 Stars instead of one only due to the easy install and HomeKit compatability. I don't like Alexa... Google Home / Assistant blows it out of the water. Paid extra for a feature I don't want or need. The software is buggy and a complete joke. Scheduling is not intuitive, the fan options are practically non existent, I can reproduce a crash in the app any time I want, it's not ready for the iPhone X screen (yet), the app refreshes like a website with each settings change, you are forced to have a schedule, you can't just have a default temp or range, I feel like it was rushed and the software is still in beta. Bad interface for the device and the app. Can't add comfort settings, only modify the ones they give you. Get a Nest and don't question it. The Nest is 10x better in every way. I'm returning this half a$$ed device.

In terms of smart thermostat, the Ecobee4 seems to be the echelon of current day thermostats. Improvements from the Ecobee3 design and functionality plus the unnecessary built in feature of Alexa, Amazon's echo technology. The thermostat does everything I wanted in terms of a smart thermostat. The app for phone and computer work great. The only minor issue I have with the thermostat comes with the set schedule. When making the schedule for temperature preference, if the Ecobee doesn't sense your home, it will default to the away setting which I set as a 5 degree difference. My thermostat is located upstairs, and when home, I don't walk upstairs constantly so Ecobee thinks I'm away as it doesn't sense home presence. Also, Alexa is a nice feature, but not necessary. It doesn't seem to function well with the Ecobee itself in terms of being able to set a random temperature only, home and away settings. Also, the built-in Alexa feature doesn't communicate with other Alexa products, so no voice calls or messages unfortunately. Also, on very rare occasions, Ecobee's Alexa will think I'm talking to it in the middle of the night for some strange reason. The positive side of having the build in Alexa is that it can serve as a communication hub to other smart products in another level of your house if needed. Overall, I'm satisfied with the product, but giving the limitations of Alexa, I'd opt for the Ecobee 3 again as it is much cheaper.

Our house is a HomeKit (Apple) house, so we don't have any other Alexa devices. As such I don't use the Alexa feature all that much, as it's just as easy or easier to talk to Siri through a phone, watch or HomePod. The times I've used Alexa, it's worked well if I'm standing in front of the thermostat, but if I'm in the adjacent room, she has a very hard time understanding what I'm (or anyone) is saying. They definitely need to improve the microphone if they want to advertise being able to use Alexa reliably in the next room. Aside from that, the Ecobee app isn't very intuitive, and I've run into a couple instances with Siri and HomeKit where I've asked for the temperature to be changed and Siri says "Got it" but then I find later it never got changed. For the most part though, it works fairly well and I'm overall happy with the product. I installed it myself (not very handy) and it was fairly straightforward due to our home being newer. My inlaws liked the Ecobee so much when they were at our house that I ended up buying and installing one in their house as well. Their house was older so there wasn't a common wire connected already so I did have some trouble. I ended up emailing pictures of the wires at the thermostat and AC unit to Ecobee's customer support, and they were able to see there was an extra wire (as noted in their instructions as a possibility). I was able to run this extra wire in place of the absent C-wire, and everything setup easily after that point. Despite the few shortcomings, I would definitely buy again. It's made it much easier to control the temperature on the fly, although I really wish you could set the schedule by voice. Trying to say "Turn off the air conditioning at 11pm" gives a "sorry I can't do that" response from Siri. Since the app isn't very straightforward, I'ven't bothered setting up the scheduling feature yet.

We "upgraded" from the ecobee3, which is the most amazing (albeit expensive) smart thermostat ever. Those features are all carried over seamlessly into the newer version and we have loved the comfort it provides to our home. We've a split level house and rarely keep a standard schedule, so the occupancy sensors are huge in regulating the day-to-day/ hour-by-hour temp of our home. The weather integration is fantastic too, turning our units on/off at the appropriate times to minimize effort needed. My only disappointment is with the Alexa integration. It doesn't maintain the full suite of Alexa features that would be found in a standalone unit and most disappointedly has a tremendous struggle respondinf to voice commands while the user us only a few feet away in a quiet room. The magic of this technology is lost when having to scream at a device to make it work. The speaker volume is ok for its size and perhaps improvements will be made to integration over time. We've also noticed the device activate its lights at random throughout the day/night. A minor annoyance from your thermostat when it distracts you from a movie or conversation. All that aside, we do use and prefer our Google Home for home integration, but hope to further use the ecobee Alexa feature when we move the Home to a new level of the house. To do it all over again, I would have kept the ecobee3 and purchased an additional Google Home. In summary, Thermostat features: AMAZING. Alexa integration: MEH.

Bought two of them. One for the upstairs, one for downstairs- 2 separate heating/air units. They are awesome. Can already tell the heat is running less. Very efficient. Customer support is also awesome- do not understand the negative comments about them. True- you do have to spend time on hold to begin with. But once you have a ticket # you just email them and they call you. I would just put on a tv show or work at something else until they answered the phone. The support team was always very knowledgeable and solved all of my problems that I had with setup and programming. They spent a lot of time with me as I figured out wiring, Alexa, schedules and heat vs. fan complications on multiple phone calls for both thermostats. They even taught me which bundle of wires to attach the C wire to in my air handler to power the thermostat. The thermostats are incredibly efficient. The schedule is set for sleep, home( wake up), away (for work), home-(again after work). I do not touch the thermostat at all. Another complaint I have read about is the problem scrolling the pad to set a different temperature. You have to slide your finger slowly and watch the numbers change and then let go when your finger go off the pad when you see the number you want. This is not something you do with a fast swipe. When you set up a full Alexa function, which customer service helped me to do, you can just ask Alexa to do it for you. My only complaint is that directions and full tutorials are somewhat sparse in easy to find so you can learn all of the nuances and workings of this excellent product. But again, customer service was phenomenal all six or seven times I needed to get help about anything. Highly recommend this product.
