Arguably the best thermostat available today

Ecobee has built on previous smart thermostat ideas with yet another killer feature: Onboard Alexa. For those that have your thermostat somewhere that is occupied/centralized in your house, this puts answers to questions, automation adjustments (such as temperature changes), and other Alexa functionality centrally in your house. Add this to the other awesome Ecobee4 features that carry over from the Ecobee3 such as room sensors, and you have a very solid product that really does a great job becoming a vital part of your daily routine. My previous top consideration, the Nest, was cool but had one major downside: If you spent too much time away from the thermostat, it would switch to "Away" and stop conditioning your house. Nest realized this shortcoming and released $100 combo smoke detectors and presence sensors. While I appreciate their thought, $100 per additional sensor is just not realistic for your typical consumer. Along came Ecobee. In the package you get the Thermostat and a second motion+temperature sensor, and can add more sensors than you'd ever need by buying additional packs. They are tiny (less than 2" x 2") and can be put just about anywhere. I have mine on the wall with regular push pins. Ecobee says you should get years of life out of each battery (worlds better than the 4 or 5 months I get from some of my other smart home accessories), and the range is acceptable but not fantastic. Installation was easy. I have an older house (late 70s construction) so I only had 4 wires. The Ecobee requires 5 wires, but comes with an adapter for houses with only 4. Side comparison: the Nest does not require 5 wires, but does recommend it. It can theoretically run off of 4 wires, but simply charges an onboard battery any time the air handler is running. If the battery starts getting low, it will actually run your air handler more than needed to recharge itself! I much prefer Ecobees honest approach to an adapter than Nest’s unnecessary additional runtime. Air handlers use about 500w of electricity simply running the fan! Not very green, Nest! The primary thermostat is easy to use, though to be honest I almost never touch it. The interface is mostly intuitive and easy to navigate. I wish there was a little more customization available for what information shows in idle mode (it changes modes when you approach the thermostat), but right now it displays the current calculated temperature (based on remote sensors that detect motion and the thermostat) as well as the outside weather conditions. Another enjoyable feature: Home IQ. Having an older home, I’m always curious to know how my home’s efficiency compares to that of houses around me. Ecobee’s Home IQ feature provides you insight into how your house compares to similar houses in your area. In addition, it tallies total daily runtime, presence sensor activity and temperature history, and a few other things. If their built-in analytics aren’t enough, you can download the raw data via .csv. The App works well, and mirrors the interface you are provided on the front of the thermostat. I do not have any Apple products, but the HomeKit/Siri integration is convenient for those in the Apple ecosystem. With how rarely I touch my thermostat, I don’t mind breaking my phone out or walking to the unit. Overall, I think I made the right choice. Here’s a TL:DR – Pros: -Integrated Alexa means convenience for your household -Saves money quickly over a non-scheduled thermostat -Keeps your house comfortable even if you don’t frequent the room containing the thermostat -Provides easy access via an app, web portal, or Siri -Gives you insight into your energy use and system cycle times via their Home IQ portal -Warns you of dangerous or unexpected temperatures inside your house -Active development by Ecobee means constant new features added to the software of the device. Cons: -Sensors are still a little expensive (I’d love to see a $20 price point) and can have a limited range -You may need to do a little additional install work if your home has less than 5 wires running to the thermostat

Got my New Ecobee 4 with built in Amazon Alexa and very excited to share my experience with you all. First off I want to say I don’t know how I went this long not owning an Ecobee Thermostat. I have always had Nest in my home but after using the Ecobee 4 for a few weeks it’s a much better thermostat in my opinion. The new Ecobee 4 has a built-in speaker and mic for Alexa and surprisingly it was much louder than I thought it would be, and very clear. Just give Alexa a command and you get that familiar blue LED at the top of the Ecobee that it’s listening. Commands with Alexa on the Ecobee 4 seem to be even a touch faster than some of the other Echo’s in my home. Setup was a snap and this time around I set it to control my Humidifier as well. It also came with 1 sensor and I think the sensors are what really sets the Ecobee apart from other smart thermostats. I ended up getting an additional 2 sensors for a total of 3. The Ecobee 4 can be setup to follow you in the house based on sensor activity so if you travel from room to room the temp will adjust. These sensors are great and when added to a Smart Hub they can be used to trigger a flow based off motion or temperature. When I first setup the Ecobee 4 I entered my home , away, and sleep temp ranges and I haven’t touched it once to adjust, its doing a great job all on it’s own. The app is very easy to navigate and also they have an amazing dashboard on Ecobee’s website that allows you to get some great data history on usage. I added it to SmartThings and its working great and coming soon to Wink as well. Having the built in Amazon Alexa allowed me to have yet another room in my home that can be controlled by voice. Overall I am very impressed and I highly recommend getting one if you’re in the market. I have tried several smart thermostats in the past but the Ecobee by far offers the best features for the price especially now with the built-in Amazon Alexa. I have attached a few photos of my unboxing, and a video using Amazon Alexa!!

I am very, very happy with my ecobee4! It functions just like the ecobee3 does, but with some very nice and welcomed extras. • Amazon Alexa: She works! The far-field voice recognition works great. There are the occasional instances where she might not hear you, but I have the same issues with my Dot. I use Alexa pretty frequently on my ecobee4 while I fold laundry in the dining room (which is where the thermostat is) to play music or listen to my flash briefing. I also use my ecobee4 to control some of my smart home accessories like my smart plugs. • The speaker: The speaker actually sounds pretty decent and is loud enough to fill the room with some good quality sound...especially considering that this is coming from a thermostat. Pros: It works great, is fun to use, and saves on energy costs! I love the fact that there's a speaker in this and I use it while at home and entertaining. Sensors, sensors, sensors! I have sensors all over my house and use them to help get the most accurate average temperature reading of my house. I love the fact that they can detect if a room is unoccupied and therefor will focus on making sure the rooms that are occupied are at the desired temperature. The sensors can also be used as a motion detector with HomeKit and can be automated to interact with other smart devices around the home. I have the one in my bedroom programmed to turn on the lights after sunset when motion is detected in the room. Cons: As of right now, there is no Alexa ESP feature, so if you have multiple Alexa devices within range of each other, they'll all go off at the same time. However, I'm sure that'll be addressed and fixed at some point in the near future. Overall it's a fantastic product. If you want to upgrade your thermostat, I highly recommend this.

I bought one of these thermostats at the recommendation of a friend for my brand new home, and not only did I like it so much, I went back and bound a second one for the other zone in my house. What is there to say about this thermostat that isn't covered in countless reviews? It's super smart in that you can set it to slowly reach your desired temperature at the desired time versus dumber programmable thermostats. The room sensors let you aggregate the temperature in multiple rooms in a zone, as well as act as motion detectors to tell the thermostat when someone is home and to auto-set "home" mode. You can combine multiple thermostats (above and beyond the room sensors) to provide complete control over your house from your app. The web interface provides access to historical charts and logs that were vital to me to prove to my new home builder air flow wasn't working right. So in a sense these have alread paid for themselves. The only negative thing I will say about the Ecobee 4 is the Alexa integration is limited compared to a full blown Alexa device, and sometimes it's a little frustrating not knowing what command/feature will work and what won't. That being said it's a thermostat... and being able to talk to it at all is pretty amazing. The number one use in our bedroom is asking Alexa what the weather will be each day so we can dress accordingly. So to recap I have 2 Ecobee 4 thermostats paired together, 3 room sensors tied to one and 1 room sensor tied to the other. That is true home HVAC control IMHO.

I'm loving this thermostat so far, I bought four extra remote sensors for bedrooms and home office and it's awesome being able to see temperature variations and having the ecobee track occupancy. I had to stay home earlier this week and the ecobee knew I was home and automatically stayed in "home" mode. I love being able to go into my online ecobee account and see graphs over time of temperatures (overall system and individual sensors), modes, and occupancy. The Alexa functionality is great, this covers the corner of my house that needed it. I got cold a couple days ago, I was able to just say "Alexa, tell ecobee I'm cold" and it automatically bumped my temperatures up 2 degrees. Now, one thing I'd like to share in terms of initial setup: my ecobee connected just fine to my 2.4GHz wireless network. The next day, however, it dropped off the Internet and didn't come back. My Smartthings hub remained online so I know it wasn't an internet outage. The only way I could get my ecobee to reconnect was two things: change my wireless router to use 20MHz channels instead of 40MHz channels (it was using channels 7 + 11 instead of just a single channel, ecobee doesn't play nicely with this, I had to change my 2.4 GHz network speed to "up to 217Mbps" on my Netgear router to accomplish this) and manually configure my ecobee to use a static IP address. I tried both these fixes at the same time and it worked, I didn't want to monkey around with the settings anymore so I'm not sure which one specifically fixed it but this might help if you have trouble too.

I have SimpliSafe, Hue, Arlo, Harmony, WeMo, and so many other Home Automation products, and this EcoBee is my favorite by a landslide! Features 5/5: This thing has Alexa, thermostat groups to coordinate multi-zone HVAC, smart home/away, whole house fan to circulate the air and make the most of your heating and cooling cycles, humidity adjustments, energy reports, usage graphs, and so much more! Integration into Logitech Harmony, Alexa, Apple Homekit, and other home automation products. Aesthetics 4/5: Ok, so it doesnt look as sexy as the Nest with it's circular and shiny metallic dial, but the EcoBee still has a sleek look and oozes with style. The main thermostat blends in to any decor, and the sensors are small enough to place in the most obscure of places. Value 4/5: This item is jam packed with features and functionality, but it is an expensive thermostat when you compare to a standard one that comes installed with your HVAC. The cost savings of any smart thermostat will increase with time, and is well worth it in my opinion to save on energy and ultimately cost. EcoBee customer service is friendly and knowledgeable, and they were able to answer all of my questions prior to purchasing, and even post purchase when I began my install. EcoBee doesnt have any smart CO2 or Smoke Detectors in its product mix, which Nest does. So if that's of importance to you, Nest may be the better option. But with all of the integration options, EcoBee met all of my needs and then some!

Bought two of them. One for the upstairs, one for downstairs- 2 separate heating/air units. They are awesome. Can already tell the heat is running less. Very efficient. Customer support is also awesome- do not understand the negative comments about them. True- you do have to spend time on hold to begin with. But once you have a ticket # you just email them and they call you. I would just put on a tv show or work at something else until they answered the phone. The support team was always very knowledgeable and solved all of my problems that I had with setup and programming. They spent a lot of time with me as I figured out wiring, Alexa, schedules and heat vs. fan complications on multiple phone calls for both thermostats. They even taught me which bundle of wires to attach the C wire to in my air handler to power the thermostat. The thermostats are incredibly efficient. The schedule is set for sleep, home( wake up), away (for work), home-(again after work). I do not touch the thermostat at all. Another complaint I have read about is the problem scrolling the pad to set a different temperature. You have to slide your finger slowly and watch the numbers change and then let go when your finger go off the pad when you see the number you want. This is not something you do with a fast swipe. When you set up a full Alexa function, which customer service helped me to do, you can just ask Alexa to do it for you. My only complaint is that directions and full tutorials are somewhat sparse in easy to find so you can learn all of the nuances and workings of this excellent product. But again, customer service was phenomenal all six or seven times I needed to get help about anything. Highly recommend this product.

Just bought a new home and I installed this! I love this! I have a basement floor, a main floor, and upstairs floor. We have two Heaters and two AC units. One Heater and AC for the basement and main floor and one Heater and AC for the Upper floor. I put 3 remote sensors in the rooms upstairs. And 3 remote sensors for main floor thermostate for kitchen and two in the basement. The thermostats also act as sensors with motion. I hooked this up with Apple Siri and I love this! I now have Alexa to help around the home also. I love how I can shop on Amazon Prime with Alex through my thermostat! Previously I had to use my Amazon Fire to use Alexa to shop with discounts with her. Now I love using my thermostats! Oh and did I mention I am saving money on my utility bills? My thermostats are so smart and know when to not come one, I am using my system's less than before and loving my constant temperatures! You need to buy this! I know that some people like that Nest because its flashy, but this does all Nest does and even more!!!!! For the same price!!!!!

I recently bought the Ecobee as my partner has it and I liked how easy it was to use, and the home-kit integration, so I can use Siri, or Alexa (I have a Sonos Beam with Alexa.. so it's a new system I'm playing with). The thermostat was easy to install, I recommend using the compatibility tool on EcoBee's website before purchasing, my place had no issues, but some people with more advanced/ out-dated systems may have issues. It was a lot easier to set up than nest, with a direct touch screen interface, versus the ring select of Nest. (And lack of Home-kit compatibility) and once it's set up, it does it's own thing. It comes with one remote sensor with a motion detector to detect occupancy. This is nice because the unit is in the hallway, and I work in my bedroom, my roomies work in the basement, so it at least detects that I am home and keeps the system from going to away mode. Setting the schedules were a bit tricky, but overall, it has a day time and night time setting so it changes the temps based off that, which helps with cost. Over-all I certainly and happy with the EcoBee, and how it's been operating, and hope to have it for a very long time, and hope that they don't drop Home-Kit integration.

We are very happy with our ecobee4! It functions just like the Nest but better with more options such as Alexa, sensor for each room, includes two but I purchased 4 more. The sensors really work. We use the follow me feature and every room that is occupied is the temp we set. Pros: It works, it is fun, and saves on energy costs! Another pro is the sensors! I have sensors all over my house and use them to help get the most accurate average temperature reading of my house. I love the fact that they can detect if a room is unoccupied and therefor will focus on making sure the rooms that are occupied are at the desired temperature. The sensors can also be used as a motion detector. Amazing!!! Cons: the Nests app is more responsive and with little to no delay. The Ecobee app is delayed about 30 sec or more. I’m hoping they can fix that with future updates. Overall it's a fantastic product. If you want to upgrade your thermostat from Basic thermostat or even Nest like we did. I highly recommend this.

We purchased this and a sensor pack to better manage our HVAC system. I had been trying to manually adjust temps when leaving but I identified forgot and there was a lag to cool the house when we car home from work. Ecobee solves all of that. I was considering the other big name in smart thermostats. I decided on this primarily for the remote sensors. Having Alexa built in is a nice bonus. Also the other brand has not updated their hardware for a while. I love having IFTTT support, the follow me feature and the smart recovery. Scheduling is of course great but any decent unit can do that. For me set up was easy. My existing tstat was only using four wires but the fifth wire was tucked into the wall and disconnected at the furnace. I simply connected the fifth wire to the C wire on the furnace board and followed the instructions on the app. I did not need the optional power device but it's a nice addition to the standard equipment ecobee provides in the box. After a few weeks of use I am very satisfied with the ecobee. I would strongly recommend it to any one considering a smart thermostat.

I love this new purchase. It is easy to use and it is more efficient to keep the house at a comfort level. I did have some difficulty with the installation because I live in an old house with an old furnace, and apparently there was some wiring issues on our end. But a friend of mine who is an electrician called customer service and the literally step by step walked him through the process, sending customer service pictures of the wiring. It was a huge help. So, if you're a single woman with no one to help install, I recommend having Best Buy Geek Squad do the install. It's about 100.00 and well worth is to make sure it is installed correctly. I actually wish I had just done that originally instead of waiting for a friend or bothering a friend. The Ecobee has great features and easy to use on my end with Alexa or the App. I got the Ecobee 4 because it was on sale, but if you're trying to save money the Ecobee 3 is just as good it just doesn't have Alexa built in.

We've been trying to decide for a while now on which smart thermostat we were going to upgrade to, and luckily our old Hunter thermostat decided to force the issue. We decided to give the Ecobee a try. I am VERY happy that we did since we don't have a 'C' wire running from our furnace to our thermostat, but Ecobee took care of that with a converter device that was easy to install in the furnace. The remote sensor turned out to be a HUGE plus for us since my wife has a home-based business, and the room that she works on clients in tends to be 2 degrees (or so) cooler in the winter. Well, now we put the sensor in that room and viola! When they're in that room and it senses occupants, it adjusts accordingly and that room is now more comfortable for her clients! We're considering getting more sensors, but for now the one that comes with the unit is working very nicely for us. I've played around with the app, but we tend to use our Amazon Echo to adjust the settings via voice command. There's even a web application that you can use!

I was in the market for a smart thermostat and really my only two options were between the Ecobee and the Nest. However, When comparing side the side, the Ecobee 4 has SOO much more to offer and its actually $1 cheaper than buying a Nest!! The final choice was a no brainer. When ever I have visitors they are instantly intrigued by my talking thermostat. I've been using Alexa on a daily bases to play music, answer random questions, and control a few of my home smart devices. The fact that my thermostat also saves me money on a monthly bases is just an added bonus. In my opinion, the only reason anyone would ever consider getting the Nest over the Ecobee is if they are seeking a certain aesthetic to go along with their home. But I'd argue that the Ecobee 4 has a nicer and more modern look to it.

Purchase the Ecobee 4 with Alexa when I puchased my house, My house already had a standard thermostat, with the help of the instructions that came in the package, I was able to install it myself. The instructions are nice and no need of an HVAC guy, although i would recommend getting one if you do not have faith on what you are doing. The Alexa feature is nice which i have tied with the Samsung Hub to control my lights. The initial set up for configuring Alexa might be frustrating, but once you get pass that, is smooth sailing getting your house warm or cool with your voice. The feature to be able to track and make a schedule for your house temperature is a plus, saves some money in the long since all i have to do is program it once to my work and home schedule. Cons. Alexa does come on at times when the Alexa commercials are on TV. so my kid already knows to say "STOP LISTENING!!"

I am very happy with this thermostat. Because of this device, we discovered that our Aux (Emergency heat) was not setup correctly. I received an alert that the system was calling for heat but the upstairs temperature was continuing to drop. When the HVAC service man arrived, he discovered that the person that installed our system, never hooked up the heat strips! For the last 5 years, our downstairs was compensating for our upstairs and we didn't know it. Ecobee was able to track temperatures and tell something was wrong. We would have just assumed that our system was struggling because of the low outside temps. I like being able to see a runtime history. It is very helpful. I can operate the controls from anywhere. Most of all, I am super happy with the remote sensors. For the first time ever, my daughter's room stays warm and when the sensors do not detect that we are home, it adjusts the temp to save energy. Of course, all of that is customizable.

We love this thermostat! We did some remodeling on our house and the original one was ugly. We like the look and We like tech. It’s hard to say if if it’s saved us money on heating and cooling as we haven’t had it long enough. The smart technology starts warming the house to the desired temp you want the house to be when you wake up and figures it out based on outside temps and history. Set up was breeze. I had a common wire that wasn’t being used and the instruction on how use it for power were perfect. Ecobee’s app showed me exactly how to hook everything up in great detail. The extra room sensor is a great addition and the ability to purchase/add more sensors. This the smartest advancement. We have large windows in our living room and it was always cold till we got Ecobee with the sensor. Why don’t other smart thermostats do it. We don’t have “Alexa” in our house so the added feature doesn’t do anything for us. Maybe someday we will add it.

If you have HomeKit and need a smart thermostat, this definitely works. I can’t compare to others, this is the first I get, but I decided to buy it after extensive market research. Works as advertised. Have had it for several months and noticed AC turns on less frequently without a loss of comfort in the house. I particularly enjoy the integration with HomeKit. It is not yet perfect, Siri sometimes fails to connect or to pass on the command (I’d say less than 1% of the time for me). I’ve read that’s due to Apple, as it controls Siri as a service and is the sole responsible for improving its capabilities. The advantage of Ecobee 4 is that it can be integrated wth other IoT services, and has alexa built in. I didn’t try that, not interested, but great knowing options abound.

I first tried nest 3rd gen, then decided on ecobee 4 because it's just a better product and better support. They fixed all the problems with Alexa, with the new update, that they just released a few days ago. Now I don't have multiple echos responding at the same time. Works with Google and siri. I have it setup up with Google although homekit was a bit tricky but like I said their tech support is top notch. Got it working in no time. The display panel is bright and it's a touch screen, forget spinning a dial over and over. Shows the temp big and what it's set at, unlike nest. And the extra sensor makes the overall comfort way better than nest. Also when calling nest I was on hold for ever and they claim that if the back panel is damaged you have to buy a while new system. When I emailed ecobee they updated my thermostat immediately and fixed the esp firmware in no time. This is the best thermostat out there.

If you are one of the lucky folks who already have a 24 volt wire to your thermostat the install will be a breeze, but that was not my case. Although my new furnace was only a few feet away and running a new wire is no problem, the furnace was not outfitted with a 24 volt connector on the outside despite the fact that the internal transformer has a 24 volt side. The guy from tech support worked with me to go over the schematics with texted photos of the furnace manual and photos of the inside of my furnace we created a jumper and got the power we needed to operate the thermostat. Unbelievable that they would lead the consumer through this "minefield" but everything works great now. I can control the thermostat through the app or with Alexa!
