Great Thermostat with Fantastic software
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.so we all know what a thermostat does - it tells the ambient temperature and controls a unit to either heat or cool to a desired temperature. Its that simple! But what makes a great thermostat? First off the is he design of the device and how it looks on the wall. I replaced another touchscreen color unit with this. Albeit the other did display more information this design is simple and direct - It shows the relative humidity, ambient temperature, and the target temp. It does display the time, but that seems to go away via motion detection every time I walk up on it. So its basically useless to me where my stat is located. You then can dive in and get local weather and a 4 day forecast. The display does appear to be color but is mostly always in minimal setup with limited colors white/blue over the black face. So now lets talk about why this unit costs what it cost. And that is the software. you install this from the app/play store. You know the drill by now! It then walks you through setup, no need for a manual. They do a great job of ensuring you don't mess up. The app walks you through actually taking pictures of you old wiring so you can refer to it if needed! I've installed many before and do this but the app actually prompts you to! GREAT FEATURE to make this easy! once you setup your account and get the stat installed - its syncs and connects to wifi and pulls the weather. you can stop here and set temp. But thats no fun! Automation is the way! so lets set a schedule - you get 3 prompts but you can add more if needed - wake/sleep/home straight forward here - i like it a few degrees colder while I sleep, it warms up when i wake - rinse and repeat daily. I work from home, but if you leave for work - you can set an away temp so your not cooling the house while its empty! Then you can configure the eco+ settings. These are settings that help you save money on your bills! Smart home & away = uses a motion sensor to determine occupancy and adjust temps Schedule assistant - helps adjust your schedule more accurately - think home/away times Humidity adjust - adjusts temps based on humidity!! great for winter when heat dries the air and gets nippy Time of use Rate - i don't have this in my area - but this aligns to your provides and cools/heats at the cheaper rates times Finally you get alerts - high temp/low temp/low humidity - you can set these to desired levels You can also get all this via the app or website - on the website you also have geek data its under Home IQ - I haven't run the unit long enough to generate the first report - but the report is supposed to show Monthly unit run time(heat/cool) Community comparisons, and efficiency numbers

Sustainable Savings
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One of the memories seared into my mind at a young age was my father’s obsession with the house’s thermostat. Several times per hour, he would dial in the most minute adjustments to make sure we weren’t wasting a single ounce of energy, and any deviations from his settings needed management approval from my mother as well. Once I became a first-time homeowner as an adult, I completely understood his obsession after receiving my first electric bill in AC season. While I tried my best to micromanage my existing thermostat, I decided to jump into the world of smart thermostats where ecobee is an established name. I knew little about them besides some recommendations from friends, but I took the plunge and the new ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced blew away my expectations. Dad, I’m afraid you’ve been laid off. Note that this and most smart thermostats operate on 24-volt HVAC wiring. Not all systems will be compatible. You can verify compatibility on ecobee’s website by entering which wires run to your existing thermostat. - Installation & Setup **ALWAYS turn off the main circuit breaker to your furnace and AC system before installing or replacing a thermostat.** The ease of installing any new thermostat will be completely dependent on existing wiring and your HVAC system’s capabilities. Nominally, smart thermostats would be installed on a 5-wire system (R, G, W, Y, and C wires) common to most newer homes. Ecobee’s website includes a compatibility checker based on what wires are running to your current thermostat, and they include a Power Extension Kit (PEK) with the Smart Thermostat Enhanced to adapt to 4-wire, 3-wire, and some 2-wire systems to avoid running additional wiring in your walls. The only instructions in the box direct you to the app (which requires you to create or log in to an ecobee account, much to my annoyance) for illustrated guidance. At first I was disappointed as a paper manual is a handy resource, but the sheer number of variables in thermostat wiring means the app provides better guidance to your situation without a large book covering all possible circumstances. Following the app’s guidance on my four-wire thermostat system, installation was much easier than I anticipated. I’m a very basic handyman that was originally planning to call an electrician (and indeed, you can locate an ecobee-recommended one right within the app if you decide against DIY at any point) considering I had a four-wire system, but in under 40 minutes I was up and running using the PEK to adapt to my existing wiring. The included trim plate is large enough to cover pretty much all prior holes and exposed drywall, and has a built-in level to ensure perfect mounting. Once installed, the ecobee will begin its first-time setup and initial sensor calibration. Setup is done mostly on the thermostat, with synchronization to the ecobee app completed afterward. The calibration takes about 15-20 minutes to complete, and during this time no cooling or heating equipment will run - don’t install it when it’s unbearably hot or cold! - Heating & Cooling The ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced does a phenomenal job reducing the amount of time either the furnace or AC system will run. The temperature sensor is much better calibrated than the 15-year-old, battery-operated thermostat it replaced, accurately reading room temperature and humidity to determine what needs to run to reach your desired comfort levels. One of the neater features to reduce system runtime is that the ecobee predicts how much residual heat or cold air is sitting in the ductwork of a forced air system, and can run only the fan to push that air into the home for a small temperature adjustment without needing to reactivate the furnace or air conditioner. This same principle applies to boiler systems - it will run only the pump to circulate still-warm water through your radiators or baseboards until the temperature falls below threshold. Further energy savings are possible with eco+ modes, toggleable either on the thermostat or in-app. These promise up to 20% energy savings by allowing temperature or humidity to vary slightly, only running equipment when absolutely necessary. I’ve been running eco+ enhanced mode for the past week, with early summer heat usually making my old thermostat run the AC often. With the ecobee I’ve hardly had the AC run as indoor temperatures remained between 72 and 74 degrees fahrenheit. Manually setting the AC, heat, or fan to run for a short period is pretty simple - after a button press or two, the ecobee will run the systems for a specified period before returning to nominal ranges. - Smart Features The headline feature of ecobee thermostats is their Home/Away/Vacation modes. Using a proximity sensor in the thermostat or its room sensors in conjunction with the app, ecobee thermostats can predict when the home or certain rooms are occupied and run the HVAC system appropriately. This includes geofencing options, so that the system can run as you approach your home and heat or cool in anticipation of your arrival. To reduce system runtime and provide maximum savings, the ecobee thermostat also takes into consideration local weather conditions. Weather forecasts on the thermostat itself seem like a mere convenience feature, but this data also allows the ecobee to predict interior temperature and humidity in advance, running systems to counteract. Especially prudent for warmer climates is the “overcool” option, which will run the AC below its cooling threshold to address high interior humidity. The systems may run more often at first, but over time the predictions will become more accurate and the thermostat will spend less time catching up to your comfort settings rather than staying ahead of them. While the ecobee app is plenty to control the thermostat, the best feature is direct integration with digital assistants. Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Apple Siri are all supported. There’s no need to open the app or head to the thermostat to adjust any short-term settings, which is extremely convenient in my multi-story home. It takes a bit to learn what commands are available; for example, “have the ecobee run the fan for the next hour” wouldn’t take, but “tell the thermostat to run the fan” did. Expect some trial and error until future updates allow for better interpretation of natural language. - Configuration, Expansion, Sustainability The ecobee has a plethora of maintenance and protection settings to adjust, ranging from simple filter replacement reminders to safety controls. Minimum equipment runtimes, compressor cycle delays, AC outdoor temperature ranges, and more can be configured to better match your equipment’s operating recommendations and extend their lifespan. These can be configured either from the app or on the thermostat itself, with the app providing push notifications for filter or service intervals (and for the latter, providing an option to contact a local recommended HVAC company within the app). With multi-zone systems becoming common, ecobee allows for control of all your zones from the single thermostat. SmartSensors, available separately, allow the ecobee to read room temperatures and occupancy via motion sensors, so that individual rooms can be heated or cooled. Further ecobee devices can integrate with the app, such as wall switches and cameras, making the thermostat more of a home control system. Perhaps my most appreciated feature of this thermostat is the sustainability focus. Beyond simply running your HVAC equipment in a way that lengthens its lifespan, every part of the ecobee was designed with reduction, reuse, and recycling in mind. The packaging is made from completely recycled (and further recyclable) materials, and the minimum paperwork cuts down on waste. The ecobee’s wiring harness supports a wide array of thermostats, and once installed allows for switching to any current or future ecobee thermostat by simply pulling the old unit off the harness and putting a new one on. Over-the-air updates should reduce this need considerably - I expect this thermostat to have a long service life as with previous ecobee devices, and new features may be added over time. - Bottom Line The ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced is an excellent upgrade from your home’s old thermostat. Wide system compatibility, predictive HVAC control, and loads of comfort settings with occupancy detection all combine to make a more comfortable home while providing what will undoubtedly be great energy savings. Reminders and integration with digital assistants make an intuitive, easy-to-use thermostat even more convenient, and expansion options for the future are plentiful. At a $189.99 MSRP, the ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced is priced perfectly for its features. Assuming a modest 10% energy savings in basic eco+ modes over a basic thermostat, this device should pay for itself within a year in higher-usage climates such as the Northeast. I’m certainly noticing a difference already with how little the AC runs versus my old battery-operated thermostat. Assuming your thermostat wiring is compatible, the ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced comes highly recommended!

Great smart thermostat without unwanted extras
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had been using an Ecobee 3 for years and had a chance to upgrade to this newer version. The screen is a fraction bigger, but basically the same. But, it displays more information than the Ecobee 3 on screen. Before you get this, look at the wires you currently have going to your thermostat. Go to the Ecobee site, https://www.ecobee.com/en-us/compatibility/thermostat/ and check to see if your system is compatible with it. This model does not have as many options as the premium and my old Ecobee 3, but works for my application. The box includes the thermostat, a mounting plate (with a bubble level in it, a backplate, stickers to mark your wires, and a PEK device if needed. It does not include extras like an additional sensor, so if you just want a thermostat this is the one to get. In going from my old Ecobee to the new one, you can’t transfer your old settings, you have to start over. I didn’t need the PEK, so I can’t speak to it. After opening the box and turning of the Circuit Breaker (CB) on my system, I removed the wires from my old Ecobee 3 and put them in the same slots on the Ecobee Enhanced. Easy to just push in. Put the CB back on and the Ecobee powered up. After short boot up sequence it ready to go. One big plus is the device can now connect at 2.4 and 5.0 GHz frequencies. I put in the information, and my Ecobee account and was connected. It then asks some questions about the setup of your home system, do you have a humidifier, how many stages etc. Once complete the device will calibrate, but you’re basically set. If you have an account with Ecobee the device will show up on the website and on the Ecobee app. Once it shows up, you can modify and adjust as needed there or on the device itself. I had several room temperature sensors, and it was easy to add them to the new Ecobee. Just take a picture of the QR code inside each sensor with the app, and they connect to the device. I only used SmartSensors for temperature. You can add devices to make it a security system, but it may require a subscription. It starts with a basic setup, sleep, home, and away. You can adjust them or add more events. Set the high and low temps you want and how long you want temporary changes to last. There is a vacation setting too. You can send information to your HVAC company. It has eco+ and follow me. Both work great. Using the main unit alone or with additional temperature sensors or other units, the system will adjust to keep all areas of your house as you want, or just where you are. The feature worked with no issues. However, in activating them it may cause your system to run longer. I have one furnace that heats the house. Between the top and bottom floors, and how the sun hits some rooms, the room temperatures can be quite different. With eco+ on for instance, the system collected the information from sensors in the room and set the temperature. It felt nice and was great. However, it also means the furnace runs more to keep everything where you want it. Not as much as regular thermostat might, but more than normal for an Ecobee. You situation will vary but, be aware of what you are asking the system to do for your comfort. In a small place this may not be a big deal compared to a larger home. The extra sensors show right up on the app or website and can be monitored whether you use them in comfort settings for your system or not. I use them mainly to just monitor temperatures in certain rooms. After a month with enough data collected you can get monthly reports on how your system is doing compared to similar homes. Temps in the home, time your unit was one, cooling, heating etc. Data on everything the system is doing. On the website you can export the data to what you want with it. This unit is a step up from my old one. The unit will also show local weather and will display the time briefly when it detects someone nearby. Some more options and features than my old Ecobee. Compared to a non-smart thermostat, Ecobees are a giant leap forward. This Ecobee will also integrate with Google, Apple, and other smart feature providers. If you don’t need BT, calling through your thermostat, and other features, this is a great Thermostat to get. Although having it connected makes it easier to use, you don’t have to take advantage of what it offers. Make sure you check the compatibility page first, so you know it will work with your unit.

Great features & function, value iffy
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been an Ecobee customer for a few years and this upgrades my Ecobee 3 which will be used elsewhere. The display is larger, looks more modern and seems to have a more responsive touch screen. The initial setup was easy, and I was able to configure my comfort settings, schedules and other settings. The interface is much the same, so no time is wasted in learning a new interface. The Interface on the app is much the same, excellent, but the fonts and colors mimic those of the new thermostat. Although the app supports multiple thermostats, I was not able to copy/import the settings from my Ecobee 3 to the new Ecobee Enhanced. This would have been a nice touch for those upgrading, or with more than one property. One key feature that differentiates the Ecobee from the others are the optional remote temperature/motion sensors. My Thermostat is on a seldom used dining room wall. As a result, the motion detector in the thermostat used by the Home/Away feature useless on its own, it would switch to away mode most of the time when someone is home. Also maintaining the temperature in a seldom used dining room is not of much value. I placed remote sensors in commonly used areas like the living room, bedrooms, and office. These sensors transmit the temperature to the Ecobee and let it know when the room is occupied. Not only does this allow the Home/Away to be accurate where it had no chance before, the Ecobee now knows which rooms are in use so it can keep the desired temperature set where the people are, not for an empty dining room. When multiple rooms are in use, it may be off a bit between rooms, but it stays within the comfort range. This new Ecobee protected my previous investment by working flawlessly with the passive room sensors from my Ecobee 3. Pairing is different than the Ecobee 3. To pair, I had to bring each sensor to within a few feet of the new Ecobee after removing the battery from the sensor for two minutes to reset it. The Ecobee then detected it and allowed to choose a name from a list on the Thermostat. The app in phone can do nothing before the sensor is paired. After the sensor is paired, you can go into the app and enter a custom name for the sensor, which you may want to do with a sensor in multiple bedrooms. The Ecobee thermostat not only measure temperature but indoor humidity. This works with the Eco+ feature “Adjust for humidity”, which does just what it says. When the humidity level goes down, you can feel colder than when the humidity is high. This is the “Real Feel” temperature they list on the news. The Ecobee will adjust the temperature set point if you wish to take advantage of this phenomenon, keeping you more comfortable while saving money in doing so. No more getting up to tweak the thermostat when you feel cold or hot at your desired set temperature. The current weather for the next 5 days is also available on the thermostat display as well as in the app. The Ecobee Enhanced supports Alexa, Google, and Apple Home Kit/Siri assistants so you can control your Ecobee with voice commands if you have one or decide to add one later. I have Alexa throughout my home and the Ecobee works well with them. But since the Eco+ feature “Adjust for humidity” came out, I seldom have need to use it anymore to tweak the temperature. None of these assistants are built into the Ecobee Enhanced. There is no speaker/microphone built in to the Enhanced version. If you wish an Ecobee with Alexa built in, the Ecobee Premium offers that along with built-in air quality sensor wrapped in a metal (zinc) housing instead of plastic for a higher end look and feel. There are far more smart thermostats available these days to pick from. Not only from newer players like Ecobee, but also older household names in this space that have caught up. While otherwise a great feature set and appearance while working superbly, I feel the Ecobee Enhanced is priced at the high end of its competition. Including a remote sensor that enables the use of the remote thermostat/motion sensor feature you are otherwise locked out of would make this more enticing. I received this model as part of the Best Buy Tech Insider program. If I was looking to buy one, I would spend extra for the Ecobee Premium if the extra features like Alexa built-in or the air quality sensor are useful or desirable to you. Otherwise go with the Lite version which provides the same functionality without the design updates. But if the design updates or if there is another compelling reason that is, this is an excellent thermostat that will not disappoint.

Solid Thermo a few bugs. Don't recommend DIY
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Coming from an old programmable thermostat, there's a lot to like about this Ecobee, but also a couple unexpected drawbacks. AT A GLANCE: Pros: -stylish -screen takes up bigger portion of face than older models -intuitive interface -tons of great features Cons: -app can be frustrating -app missing features after troubleshooting -some parts of install not explained well enough -plastic bezel looks cheap. wish I went for the premium with the zinc bezel MORE DETAIL: Pros: the thermostat comes coupled with an app that controls it and can also be controlled by google assistant/siri. The app is streamlined and well laid out. controls are where you would expect them to be and you can change almost all the settings remotely. you can break up each day of the week with temp schedules, which is really convenient. setting the programming is super easy. i like that i can copy one day to others since my schedule varies. I can have it get warmer on days i go to the office and have it slightly cooler when i'm WFH in the basement and cooler yet for days I will be home and mostly upstairs. You can easily set vacations as well and even geofences so that the thermostat changes the temp depending on you entering/leaving a certain geographical area. There are lots of other settings for eco+, which is ecobee's new enhanced functionality. One i think is neat is it will shut your a/c off if the feel of the air meets your temp (i.e., it's a bit warmer than the set temp, but low humidity). Cons: the app can be frustrating. i often get "failed to save" errors when i make a change. i have to sometimes attempt my change 2 or 3 times before it takes and does what i'm asking. that'll probably get patched out, but it can be annoying. as i mentioned before, the eco+ settings are great, but after some troubleshooting with support, i noticed i no longer have the option on my app even though it's on my thermostat. odd, but it's not a deal breaker. and lastly, that gets me to the biggest issue i've had so far. the install. i have a thermostat with just 4 wires (no common wire), which you can still hook up with the included power extender kit (PEK), but it's not necessarily the most intuitive. Ecobee could do us all a favor and have a quick blurb about what each wire you have is for so you understand the concepts more. the included instructions are sufficient however, so i'm not docking them more for this. just know it can lead to failures and damage if you do it wrong. which leads me to my PSA: PSA: i recommend having a pro install it if you need the PEK. there's a lot of unintuitive wiring and if you do it wrong, you can damage your system. i unfortunately wired it wrong by just a little bit and it made my a/c turn on whenever i ran my fan. i tested this by turning the fan or a/c on and i think i did it too many times too fast and blew out the contactor in my a/c unit. fortunately that's relatively inexpensive. you wire it worse than me though and you can have catastrophic failures. up to you, but i'd probably just have a pro do it right and then it's guaranteed in case something goes wrong.

Worthy upgrade from Ecobee Lite
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nice upgrade from Ecobee Lite. Had to swap out mounting plate as the design on the back due to the speaker on this new model, but that took just a couple minutes, no problem. Setting up in the app was a breeze. I am not using the Alexa or Siri functions so cannot comment on that, but the interface looks modern and functionality is spot on!

Looks great and works pretty good too!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got the Ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced and opened up the box. It includes the thermostat unit, wiring backplate, and to my surprise, a nice large plate to cover any holes, paint, or defects from the old thermostat. I was patching two holes when I went back to the box to retrieve the wiring backplate when I found the welcome surprise. No need to make the holes look pretty. The larger plate looks nice and took care of the problem (photo shows the unit installed with the finished plate). The box also includes a power extender kit in case your current setup doesn’t have a ‘C’ wire. Lucky for me, I had the extra wire taped off in the old one. I started getting ready for this about a week ago. Ecobee has a nice compatibility checker online and I entered all my current wires. It suggested I contact them, so I emailed them, and it took a couple of days to hear back. They apologized for what they considered a late reply, but I thought it wasn’t an issue, especially with so many companies understaffed. They had me email a few photos of the old wiring in the thermostat and those same wires connected to the HVAC unit. With that information, the associate was able to let me know it would work and what wires to connect where. Today, when I went to install the new Ecobee unit, the associate said to hook red to RC, but the Ecobee doesn’t have an RC terminal. I jumped online and dialed the easy-to-find phone number for assistance. They were open until 11 pm EST, so woohoo for me. The tech I spoke with said to hook it to R and that my old one had a jumper from RC to R and that would work. Within 10 minutes I was plugged back in and had a display. I failed to mention, that make sure to kill the power either at the main (Ecobee suggested) or by unplugging the HVAC unit, which is what I did. I have a 3-amp inline fuse to protect my transformer, just to keep my wallet safe. So, with it powered up and displayed, there are several entries needed to get it up and running as well as registered. The service tech I spoke with offered to stay on the line and walk me through the setup but since I still needed to connect the wires, plug it in, pick up the tools and vacuum the carpet, I said I was good. Still great to have the offer of assistance. I then opened up the Ecobee Android app and went to link it to Google Home. I clicked the button in the app, and it took me to a page that said, download the home app. I already have the home app, so I opened that. Right above all the different room menus, a button appeared stating, “link/connect to Ecobee.” I clicked that and entered by Ecobee login, and it was done. I could see the connected app at the bottom of my Google Home app, and it showed the current indoor temperature as well as the off position. Clicking the off button, I saw the cool, warm, and auto settings available. I got to say I thought this would be a pain in the rear, but with the online compatibility checker, the two associates I dealt with, the parts included to mount the unit, and the easy-to-use functions, I’m more than happy with the Ecobee thermostat. I’d have no issues recommending it to a friend or anyone looking to upgrade their old unit. Just use those tools and contact Ecobee to make sure you know it will work with your system and what wires go where. Lastly, take a couple of photos when you expose the thermostat wires before you swap out units. That might save you from a costly mistake. If there is one negative I’ve found so far, it’s that the clock displays when you aren’t in front of the thermostat, but when it senses you, it switches to setting mode and the clock disappears. I’ve contacted Ecobee today and hopefully there’s a setting I can change. If not, they really need to update the firmware, so the clock is displayed when a user (I) wants to view it. As it is now, I have to sneak up on it from an angle.

It makes you thermostat from drab to cool!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ecobee has recently released two new smart thermometers. One is the Ecobee Premium and the other is the Ecobee Enhanced. This review will focus on the Ecobee Enhanced model which is the more basic of the two. First of all Ecobee smart thermostats offer a better interface compare to most thermostats being a nice digital display having touch controls. That along for me is reason enough to upgrade since it provides design elegance. But being a smart thermostat it offers more than that. Upon opening the box you’ll have everything (aside from tools like a drill and a screwdriver) including the main unit itself, a backplate, an optional trim plate in case you want to cover some holes from your previous thermostat, a Power Extender Kit or PEK (if you don’t have a C wire. But more on that later.), and some screws. Installation is pretty much straightforward but being a smart thetmostat, you’ll have to download the app first and create an account. Then the app will guide you through the installation process. Standard or analog thermostats have four wires and more recent ones have a fifth wire called the C or common wire which provides power to your thermostat. (Do note that other HVAC systems may have different or more wires.) Just power off your AC then remover the mounting thermostat and connect to the wires to corresponding connectors of the Ecobee. And finalize mounting the thermostat. Once you have a correct connection and have powered up your AC, the thermostat will automatically guide you to the setup process. Now if you do not have a C wire (or only having four wires), a Power Extender Kit is also provided. The process of installing this is still pretty much simple but you do have to go to the control panel so setup the PEK and eventually setup the thermostat. Don’t worry there are lots of videos on how to install this. And Ecobee has a hot line to help you out. Now that you have installed your smart thermostat, you can now control it also by your phone which is pretty much convenient. The usual features of a standard thermostat are already found there but more features such as Siri and Alexa integration and air quality index are found in the Premium version. But both the Enhanced and Premium versions support Home Kit. But unfortunately I am not a Home Kit fan so control is more likely on the app. Pretty much for me, this is all I can say about the thermostat. But then again theremostats are generally drab devices. But Ecobee by making a wonderful interface and adding smart features certainly make this an interesting device and worth investing in. I’d recommend this smart thermometer.

Nice smart thermostat
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I already have two of these on my dual-zone HVAC system. This one was bought to fit for a family member. They are easy to install, and even come with an adapter if your system does not have a "common" wire. They connect to your local wi-fi router and need a phone with their free app to set them up for the first time. The setup is a bit busy and you need to read pretty tiny print. Once set up they just work. Easy to monitor or adjust remotely from the app, the computer or directly from the touch screen. Weather forecast is built in, as is a humidity sensor. I did originally try the eco-mode where PG&E could over-ride settings in high demand periods, win return for a small rebate. I don't recommend it - I was getting warnings all the time about being out of range in the summer, which disappeared as soon ads that was disabled. We don't even set our A/C anywhere near the default low settings, so that was disappointing - but not a fault of Ecobee or the device - that's all on PG&E. There is a good integration to Home Assistant if you use it (I do).

Easy setup and great support
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this after one of my 10 year old thermostats died. I’m a complete novice at all of this and was very worried about the installation. To my surprise this was by far the easiest install I’ve ever done. You download the app, it asks you a bunch of questions about your setup, and then it gives you detailed steps with pictures on how to install it. I have a dual zone system and I wanted to make sure I fully understood how to wire it so I called their support number and I was VERY surprised, it rang twice and someone answered. They didn’t ask for any information or serial numbers or anything, I just explained what was going on, what my question was, they answered it, and encouraged me to call back if I had any questions no matter how minor. I was literally off the phone in less than 5 minutes, no holds and no heavy accents. The rest of the installation was quick and easy and they’re both connected to my homekit and everything is working great. Can’t recommend enough.

Much better
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Needed a new thermostat that can control 2 stage furnace, 1 stage ac and control a humidifier directly. The enhanced ecobee was very simple to install and configure and is working fantastic. Personaly i have all the eco stuff off and just set to hold whatever temp i set it to and so far its been perfect. Way more configurable/advanced than a google nest. I recommend going on there website and downloading the 100 page installer pdf to get all the info on how to set these up best.

Convenience & Programable
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this thermostat! What an upgrade! My fiancé installed it himself, he is a decent handyman but that was still a little tricky. However, if your HVAC system is wired correctly to your old thermostat it should be easy with the detailed instructions. My favorite thing is being able to adjust the temperature from my phone when not home! I also love that I can program each and every single day and multiple schedules and times for when my heat or air comes on and off. I have it set to be lower through the entire day when we’re gone from home and then to adjust when we come home. I like that it reminds us to change our air filters too. It’ll also show the weather outside on your display screen and my kids love seeing the temperature. I will say I’m not sure I’m convinced it’s good for your hvac system to be raising and lowering your temperature all the time or keeping it at a constant. But I do know I’m more comfortable than ever in my own home lol and if I’m hot I don’t have my mom or dad like when I was a child saying “I don’t care, the thermostat stays where it’s at” !! I can pick my phone up from wherever I am in the house and change it!

Great thermostat upgrade!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These are great thermostats that make monitoring your heating and air a breeze. The app functions well and allows for remote changing of your settings. The app also hooks it to WiFi and the device is able to be dimmed when no motion is detected. Overall installation was simple and the devices function well.

Smart and simple
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had the "programmable" style thermostats in my house for a while and have been putting off getting a "smart" thermostat, just because I'm cheap really. But there are some pretty significant discounts available through power companies and other places, so I finally got one and I'm fully confident it will pay for itself. I have other smart devices that really just have a big lazy factor, such as my smart switch for my bedroom fan, just so I don't have to get out of bed to turn it on or off. Other than that, there's really no need or benefit from it. A smart thermostat certainly has the ability to let you change the temperature without getting off the couch, but it also has actual benefits, such as knowing when you are home or away and adjusting the temperature accordingly. I have a schedule set on my programmable thermostat, but my days are not always the same, so it is only beneficial to a certain extent. But the features this smart thermostat has, such as the Home or Away adjustments will certainly add up to savings. Same goes for bedtime and other options you have for "smart" adjustments. You can also add sensors if your thermostat is located in a room other than the room you want the temperature adjusted for. So if you thermostat is in a hallway, but you want the temperature adjusted based on your family room, you can add a sensor in the family room and the heat or a/c will run until the temperature in that room has reached the temp you've set it too. (Note that no thermostat, will let you set different temperatures for different rooms. That's dependent on your hvac setup, number of units, etc.) There are settings to adjust the temp based on humidity levels, which is great for the south, as well as settings minimum and maximum temperatures. You have a vacation mode as well as the potential for Time-of-use adjustments. (You can check your local utility company within the app for this feature.) The setup was super easy, especially if your thermostat is already configured to match. The app walks you through the process, and if you run into any issues, it has you contact Ecobee's customer service (which I had to do). That process was super easy and they were very helpful. They answered pretty quickly and the process was basically sending them pictures and them sending instructions, as well as walking you through the process over the phone. I'm pretty confident even someone who is not handy at all would be able to install this themselves. I haven't had it long enough to see potential energy savings, but I'm confident the savings will come. I would certainly recommend this product.

If it worked w/ 240v heaters too, it'd be perfect!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Super easy to setup and use. Integrates well with smart home platforms. It's beautifully designed and looks amazing on the wall. I just wish it would work with a 120v-240v in-wall heater without having to get a transformer. I highly recommend Ecobee for your smart home thermostat!

So easy to use
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We moved into a brand new house and had to live with the cheap and manual thermostat, that always seemed to reset itself, or do something weird. Installed this ecobee, which took about 5 mins, and now we can adjust the settings from anywhere. Had no issues with it at all. Recently we went on vacation and realized we had not stopped the air con, so did it from the beach, to save us some money. Highly recommended.
