Bought this as part of my home theater system. ELAC just sounded the best for home theater - vocals were clear and weren't drowned out by special fx sounds. This floor speaker was the perfect size and look - not too big and the style was simple and easy to work into the overall look of our living room.

I wanted to like these, I really did. I purchased the center speaker of the ELAC debut 2.0 series and it was a signicant improvement over the Sony core center speaker it replaced. I was impressed with the clarity and lack of distortion at high volumes (set to small) of that center speaker that I was exited to try the larger floor model.
Compared to my 12” Fischer tower speakers from 1994, these were clear but started to distort at higher volumes (have a Yamaha tsr-8750 behind it all) and that didn’t sit well with my ears. Prior I had a Sony 4K receiver and the Sony core tower speakers (Scss-3) and maxing out the amp didn’t distort any sounds (except making the listener temporarily deaf). Perhaps the amp is too strong but for whatever the reason I didn’t like them. Those Sony towers are my go to for clear music and movies.
Don’t consider myself an audiophile as I don’t have 20k speakers in my home, but at least I would like to have my chest rumble with the beats.
