Cons

  • Honestly its been awesome so far, the streaming, commentary and game capture is awesome, the only downside is the setup because their instructions are not the best, and also the settings on the software should have instructions for lets say xbox one , ps4, and such.TechShopper

I purchased this so I could hook up my Panasonic GH5 as my streaming camera instead of using a standard webcam. After downloading the streaming software it was as simple as plugging in the camera via HDMI and I was up and running. The software is pretty decent but I preferred OBS instead - it's tricky to get this to work with OBS on a Mac but there are some good YouTube tutorials out there on how to do it.

Elgato HD60s is by far the best external game capture device out there!! It captures anything that can output to HDMI. Works amazing with OBS streaming, or you can use elgatos software to capture the video on PC. Must by for any streamer or video maker!

I have an internal version of this brand in my PC but I like this version much better. Although the internal version might have better performence but this one is far more convinient. I don't need very long cable to hook my camera any more. And this one works on Mac too which is very useful if you have a IMac because whit this guy, you IMac could be used as a external monitor! Installation was easy, just plug into the USB port and install the driver and software, you are good to go.

This is a decent option if you don't want to use your console to do it. There are many others from Elgato but this is a good capable unit. With that being said you need to ensure that your PC can handle it. The software is easy to use. To do it right however will cost more to have proper production. Camera, microphone, lighting, green screen are not necessary but to stream and be successful you will want those things.

Elgato/Corsair's HD60 S works wonderfully to capture and stream online 1080p60 content over HDMI from the current generation of video game consoles. Because it's an externally-connected USB device, it works perfectly with Macintosh and Windows PCs alike. The Game Capture HD software is easy to use and understand, but note that the Mac version of the software lacks parity with the Windows version. There's always BootCamp, right Mac friends? One last tidbit - although you can capture content from any HDMI source, be sure you understand what HDCP is before purchasing. Some consoles allow you to turn off HDCP via a settings screen, while other consoles force HDCP without a way to turn it off.

This is pretty self explanatory if you are buying this. You want to take a step into streaming and want to capture at the same time. Elgato does just that. Their software is very user friendly and take a minute to learn. From that point on, their hardware as well as wires needed are all included. The pictures for set up is very easy that even a child can do it.

    Nintendo Switch + Mac

While I may utilize the capture and streaming capabilities this product was designed for in the future, I actually bought the HD60S because it allows me to connect my Nintendo Switch to my iMac display. On one hand it's a pricey solution for these purposes, but I don't have a TV that I'd connect the console to, and I'm not going to buy one, so it evens out. Other than a couple restarts of the Game Capture HD software due to the audio cutting out, everything's been working great. I think you need a pretty fast processor for optimal performance (I have a i7 4.2 7700K cpu). I stream full 1080p @60fps, with no perceptible lag from the wireless controllers. Everything looks great and runs smooth.

    Issues with OBS

Works great with Game Capture HD, it's proprietary software. But with OBS/Studio I get frame drops. Still seeking a reason for this as OBS/Studio gives you way more options compared to Game Capture HD. The card also tends to have issues from time to time actually pulling up the source, resulting in something as little as an unplug to something more substantial as a reboot of the system. I will note I am capturing from a PS3 which uses HDCP and in order to do so I have employed an hdmi splitter. This could be more the issue with capturing the source as opposed to the card it's self, but I feel it's something that should be noted to those looking to do the same thing.

This is a game capture device that in reality is fairly simple to use. It seems to have a few bugs that make it operate funny at times, and I'm not smart enough to really figure it out. It can record audio/video pretty easily, though getting a proper balance is difficult. Exporting from the software is super simple. I still don't really know how to get this to work in concert with adobe suite software to really make my audio sound good, since it's just not great with this alone. But that's my own shortcoming since I don't know how to use Adobe's stuff. All in all, it does what it's supposed to do, but it's not quite perfect.

First time steamer. Does the trick. Though, I am on a Mac and it's kind of booty considering you can't use it on OBS and the game capture software for elgato itself is super booty and has close to zero customization. Only works well with good internet connection but that's given for any capture card. Overall, a pretty solid product. Definitely would recommend. Windows users would probably love it more.

Okay, so first of all I am new to this game capture area. I bought the elgato hd 60 s based on features and reviews. Honestly its been awesome so far, the streaming, commentary and game capture is awesome, the only downside is the setup because their instructions are not the best, and also the settings on the software should have instructions for lets say xbox one , ps4, and such. Remember to buy the chat link cables on amazon, it doesn't come in the package so you have to buy it yourself to record game chat. I think thats a downer because the hd60 has it included but the 60 z doesn't. Overall its great for beginners , the software lets you customize the recorded videos as well. Also you have to really play with the balance between the volume of game chat, and game sound, lots of trial and error.

This has been working really well. Been recording gameplay videos for a couple weeks straight. I don't like that you have to plug it into something to use your device though. Sometimes I don't have my laptop nearby the xbox. Also, the Elgato software doesn't work that well. Usually use OBS instead. The live capture feature is cool, but doesn't work well, at least when I tried. Still a very slight delay from your gameplay to the computer. Even with the USB 3.0

Great for Easy Game Capture and Streaming

I recently had to purchase a new laptop as the old one was showing it's age and couldn't quite handle playing the latest games and streaming at the same time. It puts a great deal of strain on system resources when you are making your computer do double duty of running demanding games, while also making it capture, record and render video at the same time. The old laptop is still plenty powerful enough to handle single workloads like capturing or editing video. So to make things easier on myself I purchased the Elgato Game Capture HD60 S. Now I can have the new laptop play the game at max settings, and simply send a copy of the screen output to my other laptop to record and stream it. No more fighting over which process (the game or the video capture/stream) has use of the Video Card (GPU), Processor (CPU) and Memory (RAM). Each machine has it's own dedicated task and the HD60 S manages sending the video over for me. This has allowed me to stream at much higher quality and with better stability as well. I have used this to stream to Twitch, Mixer, YouTube and also to record video locally for editing. I have had very little difficulty with getting it setup. The only pain point was getting the audio sent from my new laptop to the old laptop via the HD60 S so that my video capture and stream has the game audio while also being able to hear it myself on the headset connected to the new laptop. This was fairly easy to resolve once I did some research online about audio configuration with a 2 PC setup using the Elgato Game Capture and Sound Capture Software. This may be a bit more challenging if you are not very technical with computer settings, but a quick search online and watching a couple of Youtube videos should help if you have issues with it. If you are capturing from a gaming console instead of another PC, this will not be an issue as they automatically send audio over the HDMI to your television by default. I am very happy with my purchase and definitely recommend it to anyone looking to use a dual PC setup for streaming or capturing gameplay video.

I went into this capture card already hearing bad things and initially when I used the card, seemed fine. I would like to say the instant game view is awesome but it's not worth it unless your computer is beyond an i7 quad-core processor. I have an i7 quad-core 2.9 ghz, 16gb of ram, and a Radeon Pro 460 4gb but this pushes my CPU to over 110%. The problem here is that the capture card itself has no encoder built in. This is HUGE DESIGN FLAW of the device. Elgato needs to fix the system requirements because all the specs that supposedly works is false. I'll say that the software is easy to use and understand. Streaming to Twitch is a breeze and they make the best of signing in to your account and hit the live button, I do hate that the game tag is always set to Pac-Man on default. Elgato, this has no encoder built-in. Put one in it! Also, this capture card needs a CPU higher than a quad-core i7!! Be warned and find another capture card with and encoder built-in!! As for me? I'll go to Avermedia and use theirs as they have a built-in encoder.
