This capture card does a fantastic job of what it needs to do. Your computer recognizes the capture card like a webcam; you can use OBS or Elgato's Game Capture HD program (both available for free on Windows or Mac) to record or stream. The HDMI passthrough is lag-free as well, so don't worry about the dongle messing you up in a shooter. One thing to note is the capture card supports 4K passthrough, but only records up to 1080p at 60 FPS. I think this is fine, at least for someone casually streaming like me; 4K is overrated anyways. Setup is painfully easy; just plug it in between your monitor/TV and your game console, then run the USB cable to your computer. (The box includes one HDMI cable and one USB cable.) Elgato notes that a USB 3.0 port is required for this capture card.
Video quality depends on what settings you pick; generally, x264 produces better quality, but you might want to consider having your GPU do the video encoding so your fans don't spin up trying to cool down your CPU. CPU usage isn't too bad if you pick x264 veryfast or something.
Be careful when you buy one though; I picked one up and when I returned home, I opened the box and found Elgato's HD60 capture card instead (and yes, it was factory-sealed). Not even an HD60 S. I immediately headed back to Best Buy, and thankfully they gave me no issue with exchanging it for the correct model.

Like many of us, I'm not made of money (how terrifying would that be if a pile of money could think and type a review though?!). So without springing for the Elgato 4K internal cards (which a laptop can't even really use), but owning a 4K TV and a Playstation Pro, I (at the time it was the best available) purchased an Elgato Game Capture HD60 S. I learned quickly, I was going to have to make some sacrifices for the choices I made.
I found myself constantly swapping HDMI cables back and forth. I had the choice of either streaming and/or gaming in 1080p (which was all the HD60 S could manage), or disconnect the device and go straight to the TV to get all those glorious 4K pixels and HDR color gamut back that my TV and Playstation Pro were capable of. Yes, I could have bought an HDMI switch... 4K switches with HDR aren't cheap, and then you're also dealing with HDCP, which I won't even get in to!)
Anyway, this was lame, so when I saw this new one come out I thought, "Finally! This is what I need!" - and it was. No more cable swapping, 4K output on the TV again, HDR, and still capable of streaming in 1080p. It's almost as easy to set up as the normal HD60 S, and functions very similar... which brings me to the cons.
This is only available at Best Buy. This means you're not likely to see sales on it like other Elgato products. There's no price matching, because they are the only ones with the item. Also... the regular Elgato Gamecapture HD software is NOT compatible with this device. Instead, you have to use their 4K software. Not a huge deal, but if you use their game capture software, it's worth keeping in mind.
All in, this device served my need, and solved a problem I'd had. The device has performed consistently and not had any hiccups in the couple of months I've had it.

I had the regular HD60 prior to this one and it was a massive upgrade! the game capture had minor to no delay when playing it through the feedback of my monitor. I would highly recommend this capture card over any old models!

Easy to use once you figure out how to set it up properly (which wasn’t an issue with this, simply having the audio channels messed up in SLOBS on my part). It records smoothly and does what it’s tasked to do. I’m currently using it for PS4, so for my audio to be sent properly while using a headset you’ll need a $10 Elgato Chat Link Cable since Sony refuses to fix their USB ports and patch their console to properly send audio if you’re using a headset (only wired ones work this way, like my Destiny 2 Man-O-War headset which doesn’t have it where if I speak I can hear it in the headset to better monitor my voice. If you have a USB headset, like my preferred AG9+, which does send my voice back to me and has better sound, then no dice.)
But yeah, this is simple. Plug it in as shown in the instructions, download the program, and you’re off the races. Simple, easy, and works. Even with Mac, which I use, as this is set up to work natively with it (not needing a second Elgato program to function properly, like the HD60S).

The jump from regular Elgato hdcapture to this one is a major upgrade in many performances. This card has no problems landing 1080p60 easily and graphics are solid. I use OBS to stream and record but you can also use the regular Elgato 4K Utility program when you are install it from the Elgato Website. unfortunately for those looking to stream streaming content such as twitch, netflix, and Disney+, the HDCP ( which is the toggle in the console system) that allows streaming services to be watched, are outta luck. Plus, that would also need to be turned off in order to stream video game content anyway. For those concerned about CPU usage, not to worry as this barely scratches anything and are free to multitask as you please with out worrying on memory usage or closing tabs
Am i happy with my purchase? Yes, definitely. Do i think it could be better? Absolutely. Setting up audio to hear others in discord and or other audio programs is an absolute clustermuck putting it safely.
If you want to stream games with camera and overlays and all of that jargon, you have a next-gen console, are using 4K HDR, and have a capable gaming PC to handle the streaming—this is an excellent external card. There you go. Do with this info as you well

I have been working with video capture since 2004 when I started with SD video with Pinnacle Studio version 8. I have had several capture cards over the years, and have dealt with MANY head aches. Bad drivers, audio sync issues, over heating cards, etc. I have used cards and units from Pinnacle, Aver Media, Blackmagic Design, and Happaugh.
Although I use the Blackmagic Design cards for the higher end/uncompressed captures, I was looking for something portable I could use with my laptop to capture full HD from several different units. This card is AMAZING.
This capture card is by far the easiest card I have ever owned. I un-boxed it, plugged it into my Windows 10 laptop, installed the software from the website, plugged in my video source, and I was up and running without ANY issues. I have captured 6 videos already, all of them multiple hours long. No issues at all.
I do not do much streaming, as I am into capturing video for editing in pro video software. So I can't not comment on the streaming capabilities. But for straight up capture for editing, this thing is fantastic. No audio sync issues, and the software ha great settings for the quality of the capture you want. I like to run capture at the highest settings so I can compress my edits down later.
I am VERY happy with this card. Simple to use, and it just works. Highly recommended.

Disclaimer: One review on here is complaining about an issue that has nothing to do with the capture card, and the other review is complaining about the highest resolution it can record which is STATED ON THE BOX.
There is NOT an audio syncing issue with this card. It’s the software from Elgato that causes the issue. Elgato has been trying to patch the software, but the patches don’t seem to work. This can record with no audio or video hiccups via Streamlabs OBS, Xsplit, and OBS. I use Streamlabs OBS for streaming and recording and haven’t had any issues. It’s literally plug and play if you know this detail.
This capture card can PASS a 4K HDR signal through to your monitor/tv while it RECORDS/STREAMS up to 1080p60. This means that your original 4K HDR source can stay in 4K HDR while you stream/record up to 1080p60.
The issue with the previous card (HD60s) is that it would take your 4K HDR signal and drop it to 1080p and could record up to 1080p60.
Final consensus:
This card is for those who want to keep their source/image in 4K HDR and stream/record up to 1080p60

Plug & Play for Video Conferencing

I wanted a video capture device to use for video conferencing. I am using Sony camcorder for Skype, Teams, Webex, etc. Being a work laptop, I am not able to download software programs so, plug & play is key for me. When the camera is plugged in and the Elgato is connected to the computer, it is automatically recognized and an option for streaming. Conferencing programs even remember my preference for this device and I don't have to manually switch to it. I am able to play with settings on the camera a bit, and settings in the conferencing programs a bit to adjust for lighting, color, exposure, etc.
I waited for Best Buy to have it in stock, and did not pay a premium to the people who are trying to hoard & price gouge.

I bought 3 capture cards before this one, each half the price. They all worked but I found that they all had a little too much delay between the video and audio.
I am also not saying this one is perfect but i did feel the latency was minimised. I had hoped the built in audio interface to it would resolved all latency, which it didnt, and infact that pathway stopped working altogether in my last session. (though i also didnt try to debug this so it may be a completely unrelated issue with my setup).
Would I buy Elgato again, yes. Indeed once they offer the streamdeck at a better price i will be 1st in line.
Would I buy this again, yes. If the price had not been so much higher than the others, I wouldnt have entertained any of the others 1st.
Would it have been a quicker purchase if the price were only slightly more expensive than the other - yes, this is a physically higher quality product.

With its ease-of-setup and included user-intuitive software, the Elgato Game Capture HD60 S+ is superb for streaming at high resolutions.
Even outside of the streaming scene, the Elgato HD60+ has allowed me to use my iMac (27-inch, Late 2015) as a monitor for various game consoles. Simply plugging a game console in the the Elgato via HDMI, and the the Elgato into the iMac, and I'm off and running.
This small device takes up little space on my desk and works like a champ. Highly recommended!

Great product. Been using it for a while and the only issue I have is that every once in a while, the OBS has an issue picking it up. The solution is as easy as clicking to another tab and back, then editing the source and it's perfect.
Because of this, I think the issue is actually with OBS and not the item.
Again, from what i've seen, I have no issue whatsoever with the device itself and the video and audio are perfect. No lag either. 5/5
